On Thursday October 12 2006 The Natural History Museum, University of Oslo, opened the first-ever museum exhibition dedicated to gay animals.
Today we know that homosexuality is a common and widespread phenomenon in the animal world. Not only short-lived sexual relationships, but even long-lasting partnerships; partnerships that may last a lifetime.
The exhibit puts on display a small selection among the more than 1500 species where homosexuality have been observed. This fascinating story of the animals' secret life is told by means of models, photos, texts and specimens. The visitor will be confronted with all sorts of creatures from tiny insects to enormous spermwhales.
How can we know that an animal is homosexual? How can homosexual behaviour be consistent with what we have learned about evolution and darwinism?
Sadly, most museums have no traditions for airing difficult, concealed, and possibly controversial questions. Homosexuality is certainly such a question. We feel confident that a greater understanding of how extensive and common this behaviour is among animals, will help to de-mystify homosexuality among people. - At least, we hope to reject the all too well known argument that homosexual behaviour is a crime against nature.

Homosexuality has always been part of nature among ALL animals ( Yes, humans too! We're animals ) since we all evolved.
My aunt owns a ranch, and she has two lesbian horses that are always together. And both hate stallions and colts. x.x This one time Duchess, one of the mares, actually attacked a stallion because he got too close to her mate. XD

To carry the subject in a bit different direction: Why must society act like homosexuals are from a different planet, and so they need to put them on a pedestal to differentiate them from us? I've just never understood that. We want to move forward and be accepting of others, yet we give special treatments out to those same people we're trying to show are just like us.
Interesting stuff, not sure how much of it is true but interesting

Well that's what I was sorta getting at. There's no difference between the two yet things are labeled homosexual or gay pride, as in the above animal exhibit. I don't mind it at all and I don't want what I'm saying taken the wrong way. I just find it a bit silly that we do that. Again, I don't mean any offense.

Homosexuals are treated specially because a large chunk of the population hates them. So from a societal standpoint, there is a very big difference between the two.

True. I just find it funny how we label things that are different than us, like we're the standard or are the normal ones. One of the little quirks about society.
The author of that article is a "frickin' moron!"
"Omigawdness, animals are teh gay, it must mean it's natural!"
Apparantly he forgot animals are also known to eat their young, overall cannibalism, "murder", rape, necrophilia, and the list goes on.
Wasn't there one article a bit back about some kind of bird raping the corpse of another bird of the same sex?
Yah, bet that'd go well in todays world, "Homosexual necrophilia is natural! Everyone rape their dead!"
They fail at logic...life, and the universe. They are the anti-42.
THaT is like RAPING DEAD anIMALz cuzz tHats Natural 2
I hope some day we can all put aside our racisms and prejudices and just laugh at people
Interesting point to bring up...though it will probably be ignored.
To be honest I'm not sure about the whole "natural, nature vs nurture" debate when it comes to homosexuality...but nobody really is.
As far as this exibit goes...I dunno, I see it as more of a push from the gay community to be more IN YOUR FACE about their life style..which I don't like. At the same time though, it is some very interseting animal behavior.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Yeah, and us heterosexuals are never in your face to the gay community. They've got negative remarks coming at them from all sides. When something comes along to give them a little bit of a positive message I think it's fine. I feel bad for gay people. I can't imagine what it's like living in a world like they have to.

Oh please.
Of course gay hatred exists in the world, but it's not as though homosexuals are forced to live in a giant bubble where we point and laugh at them and tell them that they are going to hell.
The problem with saying that they get negative remarks all the time is that...well...I just don't give a damn, and do you know why? Because when I was a little boy, I was teased, picked on, made fun of, and bullied constantly and mercilessly....do you know why? Because I have a round birth mark right in the middle of my forehead.
Dot boy, mole man, target face, the list of names that I was called for seven years in a row goes on and on.
What does that have to do with gay hatred? I'll tell you!
As a little boy, I couldn't help but wish that I didn't have this stupid thing on my forehead, this stupid thing that I couldn't hide even if I wanted to...I just wanted to be left alone. If you think that I might be exaggerating the torment that I endured, then ask yourself...what would life have been like for a little boy at your elementary and middle school, a little boy with a fucking DOT on his forehead. I wished that I could hide it, but I simply couldn't.
So I went through elementary school like that, taking all the jokes and laughs...and then I hit high school, hopefully we will have some maturity here! Not as much as I had hoped. So you know what I did? I did something about it. I begun to lfit weights every day, by the end of my freshman year, I had put on 10 pounds of muscle and was well on my way to being big enough to never be bothered about my birth mark again. So I continued on that path until I was a senior..and had gained a total of 40 pounds of muscle over the course of four years. How many kids do you think were messing with me at that point? Oh sure, every now and then some fool would say something to me, but he quickly regretted it.
My point is, I was born with something that I absolutely cannot do anything about, and cannot hide. I took my beatings and reticule for it...riticule that I did not deserve. And now the homosexual community that wants to parade around shoving their obviously outside-the-norm lifestyle into our faces, expects to not be treated with some degree of hostility? WAKE THE FUCK UP. Don't argue that homosexuality is human nature when you know damn good and well that it's human nature to riticule something that you aren't used to; human nature works both ways, not as your own justification. I'm not saying that it's right for people to riticule you, but dammit if you don't want to catch so much flack for it, then stop shoving it in everyone's face every five seconds! Do you realize what I would have done to make this dot on my forehead go away when I was in elementary school? I would have killed to be able to hide this thing. And now some people want to take something like their sexuality and try to shove it in my face and expect for me to just stand there and nod my head and eat it all up?
Sorry, but I have gone through too much pain as a result of something that I cannot hide to feel sorry for you...keep it to yourself, tell your family and friends. If you are riticuled by your family then I feel honest and true compassion for you...but don't try to march down the street waving a banner that says "we're here, we're queer, get used to it!" and expect to not recieve any kind of criticism. I don't march down the street with a banner that says "I HAVE A DOT ON MY FOREHEAD PLEASE DON'T MAKE FUN OF ME FOR IT"
I am not, and have never been homophobic in any way, so don't pull that card with me...this goes for everything, if you don't want to be riticuled for something, then don't draw so much damn attention to yourself.
flame away.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
Oh, you didn't think that was funny?
as if there are doin the wrong thing. it is up to them if they r gay or
not. and animals can be homosexual to, they can be murders,
cannibals, rapists cause although humans are different in shape and
sizes to animals like animals are differ shapes and sizes to other
animals we are all capable of making those disecions i really wouldnt
be suprised if we found some animals had equal or higher IQs than the
average human actually i woundn't be suprised if they had a law system
in place where there were large amounts of animals of the same specie
livin together. take ants for example they live i big colonies where
the woman do the work and the males get to screw the queen and make
little kiddies. the males also act as a enforcer of law or maybe its
the females not sure any way which ever it is makes sure that the
female workers (could be the queen who actually does it) do wht they r
meant to do. what im sayin is that if there wasn't an enforcer of law
for large groups of the same specie everything would be hectic and
choatic with no control what so ever. the same goes for gay ppl without
gay people or animals there'd be to many of the same species the world
would be overun and crowded by animals and people. so its only
natural for there to be gay animals and people. so i don't have a
problem with it, it might even be a good insight for people agaisnt
homosexuality, get them to understand more i suppose( it would be
really good for countries that dont allow gay marriages). just finishin
off we humans as it has already been stated are mammals and mammals are
ANIMALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
take what you can but not what isn't yours. "fight to the end and never give your enemy the satisfaction of victory"
religon im happy there r gays in this world cause id rather not have a
world overun by every species known to man. so any extremists against
gays think about whts being said and about the positive things about
havin gays and lesbiens on this world not just the negative and if ur
only against human gays and not animals as well then ur stupid
take what you can but not what isn't yours. "fight to the end and never give your enemy the satisfaction of victory"

Why didn't you just get your mole removed? Or was it one of those ones anchored into a vein?
In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.
It was never something that I seriously considered...partly because I knew that as soon as I did it, I would become the guy at school who got the dot removed...and then I would just get made fun of for that. Growing up my parents never really gave me that option, though later they told me that if I wanted to, then they would pay for it. By that time though I was already into my teens and had gotten over most of the teasing, it wasn't a big deal anymore.
The point of my story is not that I was made fun of so it's okay to make fun of gays...but that some people have legitimate things that they cannot hide, prevent, or cure...and those people suffer...meanwhile the gay community shoves an abnormal (call it what you will, it certainly is not the norm in society) lifestyle down our throats and expects nothing but care and love in return...and that really bothers me. Some of these activists are so cought up in promoting their own agenda that they have forgotten that some people are out there being absolutely tortured for who they are...and that is sad to me.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
cause i got large ears and cause im a skinny fuckin stick and now im in
bloody yr 7 and still get teased so i just ignore it as much as
possible and say there idiots and good for nothin rejects who got
nothin better to do than pick on the skinny weak guy.(i can't lift
waits cause i don't have much upper body str i only got leg str so dont
suggest lifting weights). i knoiw what it bloody feels like to be
teased draenor and im sorry u went through that but i agree with u i
feel truly sorry for gays who are teased cause some jerk forced u to
tell it to others but if u want to go down the street and annouce it to
everyone on ur own free will, don't expect people to leave u alone
instead of teasing u more. though ill say it again i dont have anything
against gays
