Even many former players will buy another SOE game, if the game is good and people are playing it, many of them will buy it, you can mark that down that I said that, for future reference. You do not have to let yourself lose though, the game is gone, and it wont be back. SOE will make many more games and be very successful, they may even make SWG2, and if they do, it will be successful as well; there is nothing that any of you can do about that.
I, and many others, disagree.
Vanguard had gotten as much bad press over $OE's involvement as good press. People still fear Star Trek will be gobbled up by $OE. There is damage being done to Sony every day because of what they did to SWG to the point that they're now the #4 online game company out there.
Yes, many will buy another $OE product, but far more won't because of this debacle.
I have to respectfully disagree with you, as many others do. Vanguard has most certainly received some bad press; however it has by far received more positive press then bad by a long shot. As for SOE themselves, I have seen things like this happen far too many times in a wide varied of companies who have done far worst then SOE could ever do and have turned around and become king of the hill the following quarter. But only time will tell who is wrong and who is right. Bring it on down now.

Then why do most Vanguard articles stress "We're NOT owned by $OE, we're not controlled by $OE, we're just published by $OE."?
If it wasn't the 500lb gorilla in the room, why would they keep mentioning it?

Well first off most of Vanguards articles do not stress they are not owned by SOE, nor do most of them even mention SOE and their relationship with SOE, most of their articles are about the game. Their have been only a few articles that have mentioned anything about their relationship with SOE and in most cases they have been answering and or clarifying questions that were asked to them about their relationship, that is all. Bring it on down.

Originally posted by BlazinBlades This battle was over right from the get go, both sides have lost the battle. To be honest very few care anymore outside of the former players, the majority of gamers no longer care about SOE and what they did, nor do they care about the former players of SWG, everyone has moved on, they have their own games to play, their own adventures to take part in and etc , the only ones who have not moved on are the former players, even SOE has moved on. Who will win the war that will be SOE. SOE will develop and make another game, and chances are they are going to make one hell of a good game, especially after everything with SWG. It will be a huge hit, and it will rake in lots of money and lots of players, and SWG and the NGE and all the former players will be forgotten, because they already are being forgotten about. But you can move on, and you can stop wasting hours a day on SOE. All this ranting and raving and hatred directed towards SOE were fine at the start, but now players are still taking hours a day of their time and wasting it on SOE. I dont even think most former players even realize how much good they are doing for SOE, I remember when Vanguard was announced it was popular, but it was no were near as popular until after SOE was announced they were publishing the game, now it is one of the most anticipated games on any MMO website, not just on this one. You see, when you take time everyday from your life and spend it on SOE no matter how you look at it whether you are trying to stop people form playing SWG or whatever, but when you take time from your own life, which is time from living new experiences and doing or trying new things, that is a bigger sham then a stupid ass video game. Dont give them any more of your time, life is too short for that. Bring it on down now.
Ah Blaz is here now to tell us all how no one cares about what SOE did. Eventhough we still get asked about it all the time. Eventhough there are articles still printed about it. Eventhough there are still many references to it. Yah Blaz you keep believing no one cares anymore. Who knows, maybe in a year or two you will be right.
As for Vanguard being more popular after SOE signed. Well I dont doubt that. But its a different kind of popularity then you want it to be. Its rubbernecking popularity. See our society is quite twisted. We love contraversy. So much so that we love to watch crashes, wrecks, and people suffering. Many movie stars and singers know this. That is why, when Madonna wants attention, she does something really contraversial. I am willing to bet dollars to donuts that half the people who are watching Vanguard now are just waiting to see the wreck.
On to SOE making a good game that people will play. Your right. If SOE ever makes a good game again they will most assuredly get people playing. But we have seen their track record as of late. And the track record of their parents. I wouldnt hold my breath if I were you.
Look at some other things out there. Both DC Comics and Marvel Comics both announced MMOs. When it was announced who was working with DC, the complaints DC got were huge. Alot of them from people who didnt play SWG. Star Trek also announced a MMO. Later announced SOE would do publishing. Alot of hardcore trekkies who wouldnt be caught dead playing anything Star Wars immediately turned away at the letters S. O. and E.
Believe what you want Blaz. But the truth is out there. You might want to ignore it and act like it isnt there. But its there. I see it all the time. The topic has come up in many games that I play and forums I frenquent. Heck I recently got BF2142. While playing a few people were talking about EA Games. And a comment from another player was "At least they aren't SOE." Decent game by the way but I still like BF1942 most. Anyway back on track. To be considered worse then the worst game company, in regards to customer service, patches, and swallowing up of smaller companies, is a clear signal of just how low SOE has reached.
Always remember the first rule of business. It takes 10 positive comments to cancel out one negative comment. And the more SOE messes up the more people will turn away completely. There are already whole sections of the gaming community, at large, who are flat out boycotting SOE. Some for what happened with SWG, some for MxO, some for EQ2, and even some for Planetside. When Vangaurd comes out it better be perfect. There better not be so much as a hiccup in the release or the game itself. There are alot of people watching it and waiting for the wreck. When the DC Comics MMO game comes out it will be the samething.
Okay well I appreciate what you just posted, basically form your post I get the understanding from your line of thinking as to how SOE is being affected by SWG former players. Well I have few simple questions, what happens if Vanguard turns into a huge success? What happens if SOEs next game turns into being a create game and is a huge success? What happens then? Bring it on down now.

Anyone who continues to do business with SOE, knowing their past history, deserves any screwing over they get. Wether any future SOE game is wildly successful or not, I know I won't be there for it.

You know damn well that not only will these SAME people play the game but they will not be able to stay away. This is the next big roll out for EVERY fantasy fan out there. The same team that bought us the very 1st year or so of EQ?The same team that made the mmo a profitable reality and broke sales records?
No way in hell do i beleive for 1 second that these people wont be playing VG on the very 1st day.

SOE is in a "damned if we do damned if we dont" situation with Vanguard. If Vanguard does real well and becomes a huge success then Sigil will get all the credit because, after all, SOE is just the publisher. If Vanguard does poorly or stinks to high heaven then SOE will get all the blame because, after all, they are SOE and obviously they had more to do with it then Sigil said. I am not saying they have more to do with it. I am just saying what people will think. SOE has a very tarnished image right. Thanks to themselves and to their parents. Even being just the publisher they will the majority of the blame thanks to another strange quirk of our society.... "guilt by association". That is why I said Vanguard better be perfect. If they have even one problem (for example the SWG launch day fiasco) then SOE's credit will continue to falter.
It will be the samething with the Star Trek MMO. If it succeeds then its all thanks to Perpetual Entertainment. But if it fails it will be seen as SOE's fault no matter how far from design and implentation they are.
When the DC MMO is released it also better be perfect. Even more then perfect (if there is such a state) because this is one SOE is working on directly. If there is even one bugged quest or a little too much lag at release then SOE will be put on a spit and roasted once again.
But this isnt our problem, Blaz. Its all on SOE. They caused all this. Its their problem. And its a hard one they will have to really work at to get fixed. But judging by their current additude with SWG and EQ2 they really arent doing much to try to repair bridges.
SOE has a very series problem with their reputation at the moment. Look at when Sigil made the SOE announcement. I was playing WoW at the time. And the day it was announced people in WoW were screaming to high heaven. Most were saying "Well I am not playing Vanguard when it comes out.". Do you realize just how low of a rep you have to have with the community to get people to pull away from a game before its even released and your just the publisher?
SOE's rep is the trash right now. You can try to spin it anyway you want but I know you are not stupid enough not to see just how bad their rep is now. They can repair it. They can come back. And I would love to play a SOE game again if they made amends. But the present situations show they arent even trying that.
Heck they are even flaming their own communities and trying to blame all the problems with their games on the players. Remember when the Mourning devs tried that? Yah that tactic didnt work for them either. It just made them lose more face with their players.
SOE has the worst reputation there is in MMO land. Even worse than Dark and Light, because they took STAR WARS for God's sake and turned it INTO Dark and Light.
If SOE wants to really repair their rep and get the people back they can do 3 things that will bring the players alot faster then if they made 100 good games in the next 10 years.
1. Drop SWG. I dont mean sunset. I mean dump. Press release it and say they are giving SWG back to Lucasarts and they can deal with all the problems since they started this fiasco to begin with. Once they show everyone they have finally grown some big brass ones people will take notice.
2. A public apology. Not some mamby pamby statement "We are sorry for the timing of the NGE." I mean a full blown apology to everyone that said they messed up royally and are sorry how they treated their customers and then end it with its going to change.
3. Change. Simple enough. Make the changes within their treatement of the players.
I guaruntee you if they did those 3 things not only would all the boycotters come back. But even Blizzard would say "Guys I think we are in trouble."

Don't know, but I will say that having played WoW and EQ2 both, EQ2 is SO vastly superior to WoW in every single way, I don't udnerstand why EQ2 has 300K subs and WoW 7 million. Beats me...

MAny reasons why WoW has alot more players then EQ2.
First, WoW doesnt have SOE on the box. I believe, if WoW announced tomorrow, that SOE would be publishing WoW from now on, WoW would lost half their subs over night.
Second, WoW is a heck of alot easier to get into then EQ2. You can start playing WoW and have the basics of the game down in just a few hours. EQ2? It can take weeks to understand how things work.
Third is the graphics. While WoW's graphics are cartoony they are a change from the MMOs out there now. Most MMO try to be as realistic as possible with their graphics.
Fourth, EQ2 is just a continuation of EQ in gameplay. WoW, on the other hand, took everything in other MMOs that worked and incorporated it into their game. I see shadows of alot of other MMOs and even non-MMOs in WoW. Even stuff from EQ2.
And finally, WoW has a loyal fanbase. There are some naysayers but compared to EQ2 or SWG, WoW's fanbase isnt ready to cut and run at the first sign of trouble. Something I was telling Blaz about. SOE's rep is in the toilet. It doesnt make for alot of loyality for the fans.
Actually I agree with Wildcat surprise, surprise, I have played both WOW and EQ2 and I have to admit EQ2 is far superior to WOW, I have also played SOR and it is far better then WOW as well. Bring it on down now.

But then I am not an average MMO player anymore, I am an ex-Jedi It's not that hard, and the challenge, risk factor is a lot of fun.

IF Vanguard is a success SOE wont get any credit for it.
And if the DC Comics MMO is a success they will get some subs back but sadly the DC MMO is a stacked deck against them. You already have CoX out there now that has a large chunk of the super hero MMO fans. Then you will have Marvel's hat in the ring around the sametime as the DC MMO. So not only is the DC MMO gonna get compared to CoX, its going to get compared to the Marvel one as well. If it doesnt make number 1 in that list then SOE will lose even more face. Even if the game is stable.
Again Blaz dont hold your breath. And stop counting the eggs as chickens.

Kai
EQ2 was originally a continuation of EQ's gameplay. Over the pats year and a half, they have brought EQ2 more in line with WoW. They made the game easier to solo and simplified the crafting process. EQ2 is actually fun and rather bug free. The EQ2 developers and Community Relations personel also are quite friendly and helpful on the official forums. It's just too bad that they are employed by SOE or I'd still be playing that instead of WoW.
Is EQ2 the MMO I want to play? No. But it DOES have a lot more profession choices than SWG. It has a lot more skills and has a LOT better player economy than SWG. Indeed, except for extremely rare stuff, crafters make better stuff than loot.
And on a PvP server opposite faction can attack you anywhere, at will. There is no such thing as a PvE war.
I gave up holding my breath a long time ago, but not because of SOE, lets face it, there are very few good games coming out over the next couple of years. Bring it on down now.
Damn byotch dat aint no friggn moon fool, dat be a friggn space station byotch.
SWG was a great game but SOE craves money and obviously doesnt care about what we want just what gets them money. Theyre not going to spend money to bring a game back to make the vets and subs happy if theyre not sure that there investment will pay off. This has nothing to do with SOEs pride (haha) but rather they must have already figured in the odds and found it not beneficial enough to open the classic SWG.
But If Im wrong (I hope I am) I would play it the very hour it came out and theyd get my business back.
I find that Darkfall will be the best alternative if someone is craving the old SWG with the skill based advancement, player Economy, and very non repetitive gameplay with a lot of different things to do (unlike WoW) But in the end nothing will really replace classic SWG.
Much like the rise and fall of Rome SWG was a great and beautiful Empire only to be completely corrupted and ruined by greedy men (SOE)

Sorry, I'm not sold ... SOE label on box = Mr. Yuck sticker, and it won't be on my shelf. Bad pick, Vanguard.

Evidently I have not been, in fact out of the Hundreds that I have read (and yes there have been hundereds) I have only read a handful that mention anything about SOE and their relationship. Well have yourself a nice day. Bring it on down now.
Damn byotch dat aint no friggn moon fool, dat be a friggn space station byotch.
Kai
Okay well I appreciate what you just posted, basically form your post I get the understanding from your line of thinking as to how SOE is being affected by SWG former players. Well I have few simple questions, what happens if Vanguard turns into a huge success? What happens if SOEs next game turns into being a create game and is a huge success? What happens then? Bring it on down now.
Damn byotch dat aint no friggn moon fool, dat be a friggn space station byotch.
history, deserves any screwing over they get. Wether any future
SOE game is wildly successful or not, I know I won't be there for it.
Yes that is true, but it is the same with any business relationship. But still, what happens? Bring it on down.
Damn byotch dat aint no friggn moon fool, dat be a friggn space station byotch.
BTW i love how these people come in here and tell everyone what a bad choice it was for Sigil to go with SOE publishing the game.Like they care. They are going to making TRUCKLOADS of cash the 1st month.
Want to ENJOY an mmo?
Dont start a guild and dont be a leader or volunteer to be coleader or captain.
Just play the damn game:)
Kai
Kai
And Wildcat... where was the fun in EQ2? I've played both and WoW was a
ton of fun, while EQ was a chore that required grouping to scratch your
ass.

I agree with most of what you posted I guess I just dont explain myself correctly, English is not my main language, I did not mean that no one cares anymore about former players, so I apologize for that it was not what I meant I just explained it wrong. Bring it on down now.
Damn byotch dat aint no friggn moon fool, dat be a friggn space station byotch.
MAny reasons why WoW has alot more players then EQ2.

Actually I agree with Wildcat surprise, surprise, I have played both WOW and EQ2 and I have to admit EQ2 is far superior to WOW, I have also played SOR and it is far better then WOW as well. Bring it on down now.
Damn byotch dat aint no friggn moon fool, dat be a friggn space station byotch.
And Wildcat... where was the fun in EQ2? I've played both and WoW was a ton of fun, while EQ was a chore that required grouping to scratch your ass.
I've sologrinded to level 36 on a wizard on a PVP server in 1 month. Not even playing every day.
But then I am not an average MMO player anymore, I am an ex-Jedi It's not that hard, and the challenge, risk factor is a lot of fun.
And Wildcat... where was the fun in EQ2? I've played both and WoW was a ton of fun, while EQ was a chore that required grouping to scratch your ass.
Kai
I will say that having played WoW and EQ2 both, EQ2 is SO vastly
superior to WoW in every single way, I don't udnerstand why EQ2 has
300K subs and WoW 7 million. Beats me...
