    RUNESCAPE!!!!!!!!!

This games the shittiest MMO in the history of shitty MMOs. Theres absolutely no WASD, mostly made up of 9-14 year olds, the combat sucks balls (the "combat triangle" is some bullshit jagex made up as an excuse), not to mention the crappy graphics and sound.

Life is full of choices--dont make RS one of em

    World of Warcraft's Customer Definition
World of Warcraft customers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or purchased a prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the installation box bundled with one free month access. Internet Game Room players that have accessed the game over the last seven days are also counted as customers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired pre-paid cards. Customers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules.

The bolded portion of the quote above should help clarify those 'well thinked sentences'.

    Anywho ...

The Market does a fine job of weeding-out poor products, I could care less which games 'make it' or not.

I think UO should die.  Not because I didnt like the game.  I actually loved the game back in the 90's but at some point they just need to let it go and update the game into 2007 so that the people that loved the game can come play the new content.

    WTH is logic?

I think that SWG needs to die and be ressurected.

It's on life support, but hopefully the janitors will spill cleaning fluid on the servers or something. Also, Dark and Light needs to finish it's death throes and Thrones of Chaos was dead two incarnations ago,it just keeps coming back. I'm thinking of sending an exorcist to get rid of it once and for all.

WoW has 7 million active accounts, but we know from Vivendi’s Chinese partner that 5 million of those are in China where people pay a couple pennies an hour (and could therefore have more then one account each) rather then by the month.  This leaves it with about 2 million real subscriptions.

They have sold more then 20 million boxes, however since these numbers com from retail channels and there does not appear to be a separate entry for game cards it’s very likely there is a lot of double counting going on.  A more likely explanation is that WoW has sold 5-10 millions boxes and 10-20 million game cards.  Accounts that are active as the result of time from a game card are also counted as subscriptions.

~6 months ago WoW had 4.3 million accounts in China and was reporting 6.5 million worldwide, so subscriber growth in the profitable North American and European makets has slowed and perhaps even started to shrink.

D@D.  I have a high end comp and even on the lowest settings I cant get the game to work.  My toon warps all over the place and loading is just horrible.  Bad game ;/

AO, AA, FoM, Guild Wars, Maple Story, Roma Victor, Second Life, Shadowbane, UO.

They're all either really old, really horrible, or just plain crap. Get rid of the few hundred people who play it (wait i just remembered, doesnt maple story have like 3mil or something?) and give it to the games that will come out soon.

There's a lot of people who play some of those game... a lot.  Why get rid of games that people are still enjoying?  Anyway, looking at your sig, I notice you play DnL.  I'm not entirely sure I would trust your judgement.

For me it's really any new Medieval Fantasy MMO that's slated to come out.  Why?  Because we dont need anymore of them.  Unless the game can offer something truely innovative (which it probably can't given the "do what works" mantra of the gaming industry)  I would not be upset to not see a medieval fantasy mmo released in the next 10 years.

I'd love to see more science fiction mmo's however.  I think that market is very attractive especially with the downfall of SWG.  The MMO would have to be original IP though since I think there comes a certain stigma with the Star Trek and Stargate IPs.   I'd love to see an MMO along the lines of Mass Effect though, that game looks sexy.

what killed the MMORPG genre was the fact that the first ones got so much attention, other companies saw this and wanted the piece of the $$$$$$.  So every company and ther dog thought they could make a mmorpg.  Hence killing it all together.  There are hundreds of companies making the same thing just with a differant name so it is pointless to follow it..  MMORPG needs to ddie so that only 1 or 2 are there and then it might seem a little diff

Although I don't advocate shutting down any game that people still enjoy, I would love to see something different, too.  I'm dead sick of Medieval Fantasy.  Science Fiction, Post Apocolypse, Steampunk, someone mentioned Sci Fi Western, sort of like those Stephen King books... I'd absolutely give anything with a different theme a chance.

    I don't understand this mentality.

I love fantasy games, I want more of them. The ones that have came out like EQ, EQ2, WoW, DAoC and such games are fun fantasy games. Why do people assume that just because it's a fantasy game it'll be the same? FFXI is nothing like WoW, EQ2 world is nothing like DAoC... the game mechanics are one thing but the worlds themselves are not the same. Why do you think a SciFi game will be any different. You'll just use a laser instead of a bow... you'll swing some graphite club instead of a sword... The world, races, sub-races, classes and other things are what I find enjoyable... thats not specific to a genre.

Game playstyle changes are good to keep things fresh but I will always prefer a fantasy genre.

Well I dont which is why I posted MY opinion.  I have always prefered sci-fi as I think it's a great genre for innovation.  I've always viewed sci-fi as a kind of "what cool new things can we do"  while fantasy has a more "okay we need a knight, a wizard, a castle, probably a moat"  type of thing for me.  For me sci-fi is something that COULD happen while fantasy is very much harder for me to suspend my disbelief about (with the exception of Jedi in SW universe).  I relate better to using technology to kill opponents rather then shooting fire out of my hand.

The Medieval theme also just gets boring after awhile.  If I buy a new game I want it to be well... new.  I dont want to play a human warrior in WoW and then go play a human warrior in WAR and a human warrior in Conan.  The genre stagnates and slumps because there are so many competing games and each tries to copy the other's best qualities.

Even if a sci-fi game is just a new cover on an old system, at least I can use rifles, pistols, rail guns  instead of swords, axes, and bows; and see new and exciting alien speices rather then the typical "human, dwarf, elf, ogre" syndrome most fantasy mmos have.

game cards have always been irrelevent when it comes to counting boxed sales. In fact they aren't even counted in the sales figures
because for a game card to be any good they MUST have a box before hand.

Actual subs ? Well North America just got 4 more servers and we have medium to full rated across all 150 plus of them. There hasen't been any servers that have closed down. One can naturally deduce that at most NA and Euro subs have stabilized or have experienced small growth patterns.

heh a couple pennies an hour eh ? The sheer volume of accounts based over there pennies add up pretty quickly. Its folley to say that WoW's asian base is not profitable and that the NA EURO base is more profitable. Given how much they play games over there I might say the Asian base subscriber base to be more profitable or on equal terms with NA and EURO.

I think its High time Asheron's Call bit the dust...I played AC for 3 years, off and on after the first 2. and then Ac 2 was coming out!??! i was like, wtf!! lol that went fast. hardly anyone plays AC anymore, and the content there adding just isnt worth it. think its time to just drop the game.

EVE for me.  It's not my cup of tea.  Leveling without playing?  Having to use calculus-hemispheres of my brain to play?

MMO games played or tested: EQ, DAoC, Archlord, Auto Assault, CoH, CoV, EQ2, EVE, Guild Wars, Hellgate: London, Linneage II, LOTRO, MxO, Planetside, SWG, Sword of the New World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WWIIOL, WOW, Age of Conan

    UO, Shadow Bane, AO.

These games either need to be closed or updated massivly. Especially AO.

Anarchy Online biggest problem is it needs an overhall. Fix what is wrong with the game and add a brand new graphics engine. It has a good setting, good background, and the people have experience.

One of the games that should be revamped.

As for games that fail.. well any that recieve a 4 or below on the gamelist scale and no one has ranked good should be shot.
