I don't think there is an open beta yet.

I applied for the beta ages ago through  the Vanguard website and have been a Vanguard forum member for well over a year.

I am also a Fileplanet subscriber so I could do the beta from them but I won't be for reasons stated in my previous post.

I'd rather see the key I could get from FP go to someone with a PC that can actually run the game properly.

I don't have much interest in this game.

It's overall poor performance, that can even be seen in the promo videos, has turned me off from it.

Soon anyone from Fileplanet can get in, regardless if they have a subscription or not.

Well I was invited to the Beta and I won't go into the nuts and bolts of the issues I encountered. That being said I pre-ordered the game, though I wasn't impressed with by the difficulties I had, I will give the finished product a good look. After which if the 10+ hour patch downloads and updates haven't been corrected or the system requirements reduced then this game will become one of those that I will go out of my way to point out its short comings. I really hope the finished product does better.

I would like to but I need to upgrade my old PC first.
  • tonestones Member Posts: 60
Your original download was long beacause you had to download most, if not all of the game.  Of course it is going to be long...the game is 17 gigs....once you have the game installed further patches will not take long at all....in beta they usually take 15 to 20 mins to download.

Going to buy it, my wife wants to own a tavern realy badly,

and the game seems more imersive and realistic to me (also i love halflings)

Altho WoW is a stable game,

its lacking in any of sence of acomplishment in what you have achieved.

I dont mind MMORPG being made easy but being spoon fed with epics isnt realy my cup of tea.

Also WoW doesnt have player/guild housing, wide arange of classes/races,  boats etc.

The cartoon graphics are alright but its kinda not doing it for me anymore.

So yes going to buy vanguard and give it a twist, already cancelled my WoW acount especialy

since they screwed up my Priest class so badly.

Buggy animations, disappearing pets and mobs, uninteresting combat and regularly scheduled crashes.  Who wouldn't want to buy that? :)

The servers are crashing because they are stress testing them.  Right now they are experiencing more load than ever before, so ofcourse they are going to crash.  Servers crash all the time in open betas and even when games launch.  They are working all the time to fix the crashes and other problems server side.

Likley no, I will probably do like I did with EQ2 and give it a year before having a go at it, should have most things ironed out by then.

If they make raid-free servers or an alternative to avoid ALL raiding, I would reconsider buying that game, but atm I wouldn't play it even if it was the only game available.

I really don't understand what is so hard for these guys to understand:  Most peoples don't want to raid and they don't want to see raiding enforced on them.  I don't care if someone who complete a doctorate in litterature is more worthy or less than me, in a game he is judge by what he is doing.  Now, enforcing raiding on groupers is a weak idea, and it hurt your fanbase in the long run...why do you think SoE fanbase is soooo limited?  With a success like EQ, it should have a decent fanbase.  But...it doesn't.

Doesnt WoW have a lot of raiding as their high end content?

And the game isn't forcing you to raid.  It has a mix of 20solo, 60% group, 20% raid if I do recall.

It would be easy to just say "th15 g4m3 i5 teh 5uck"!
But Im not going to do that, even though its basically how I feel. Instead Im going to say this :
I followed VSoH development from pretty much day one. I think my forum inception date is early in 04, but I cant remember. I have watched it evolve in both design docs and screens, with interest ever since. As the day of open Beta drew closer I was more and more excited about finally getting to play the game BMQ has put his sweat into for over 4 years.
All I can say after giving this game a pretty fair run is.... Im amazed they are even bothering to release it.
Thats right it is so basic, so bland, so uninspired and boring as to make me question the sanity of the people behind it. If you have played EQ1 then you have played VSoH. If you have played EQ2 or WoW then you have played FAAAAAR better games than VSoH. In fact I hadnt logged into WoW for about 2 weeks before playing VSoH because I was trying to "let go of it" so I could make the switch to VSoH without pining for WoW. Well I logged back in and played almost all Sunday, becasue I wont be quitting WoW, in fact I will be getting BC and spending my MMO gaming hours for at least the first half of 07 in WoW.
As for this garbage some of you keep spewing about WoW being for kids and VSoH being for so called mature gamers. Well the mature gamers your referring to must have attention spans like 5 year olds on Rittalin because there is nothing to hold your attention in VSoH, unless you count falling asleep. Im 40 y/o, I have played everything on the list and some of them for years. I choose to play WoW because it is by far and away the best MMO currently running. If you call it simplistic, you obviusly havnt played beyond level 10. If you think its for kids, well Im living proof your wrong. If you think it is not for hardcore gamers, then your talking to someone who has put more hours into MMO's than 99% of you so..... ooooops.... wrong again....
Im not trying to compare the two (even though Im doing it) Im just making the point that VSoH just isnt going anywhere. It has Asherons Call 2 written all over it. I would even go as far as to predit this one tanking pretty quickly. No one except a complete newcomer to MMO's is going to find it anything other than more of the same old same old, minus any content. You can choose 4 or 54 content rich same old same olds.... so why would you choose a content poor, laggy, directionless, same old same old ??
If I had to sum up my take on VSoH into 2 words.... it would be Utter Disapointment, or Opportunity Lost. Both are just as fitting...
    Very very sad .....

    Well Said

You are actually wrong..Those who like the game (your so-called fanboys) are playing the game...Others are here trying to flame it out disappointment/boredom/trollness....

    common sense

Just gotta love all of the one and two post fans out here praising the game LOL, you guys are pretty transparent.

    common sense really

The smart people will wait a few months, I figure within 2 to 3 months they will be offering 10 day free trials.Save yourself 50 bucks and let the fanboys work the bugs out in the paid beta.

Dude.... LOTRO.... that one sucks BIG time.  Anyone want a beta key ?

simple answer, no. i would never purchase this after trying it.
  • BluehoundBluehound Member Posts: 24

I have a 20 Druid, 13 Bard, 7 Bloodmage. I have ordered the game and I am quitting EQ2 to play VG. I am having fun in EQ2 and the expansion is good, but I like Vanguard....it is just more my style of game, it isn't even an option for me.

No game is for everyone. I don't do a ton of quests and crafting. The dungeons are cool and the class specialization is great. They didn't pansy out and do a bunch of generic classes. That is what really sold me on the game.

Gameplay is fine for me, performance is not a big issue (only in Khal) and my machine is two years old.

Well, since I have a station pass already, I've already gone ahead and bought it!

I made my decision in November (beta tested since first week in august).

My conclusion and mini review is that Vanguard is just another MMO, very similar to WoW or EQ2, but also it's own game. It's has borrowed from UO (housing Boats and mounts), From WoW (harvesting) and done some things of it's own (Diplomacy).

I'm not buying it, I can see how many would though. Vanguard does not fill my needs as an immersive world, it promises to be much like todays MMO and more of a game than a virtual world. Such is the case though because most subscribers today know nothing other than WoW or EQ2, so they get "more of the same" with Vanguard.

It's been nearly a decade since UO launched, the only game currently in development that could come close to what UO was, is Darkfall. That game may never see beta, it's been trying to get there for a couple years now, but it's the only one I'm willing to pay attention to at this point.

    Anyways, back to topic.

I've tried it, NO... I'm not buying it.

No more Trivial MMO's, let's get serious "again". Make a world, not a game
    What I listen to :)

So when the invite to Beta came in my e-mail inbox I was excited beyond measure, until I realized one requirement was a Station Access account......

There I sat torn between a new world awaiting my exploration,  and my thoughts on SOE gaining my subscription again.

Sadly I must pass on it, yes I know SOE will only host, and have no say in Development, but after going through SWG and what happened there i vowed not to finance any further Sony Online Project with any financial backing. It was hard to just delete the invatation, but it was just as hard to cancel my pre-order after Sony was announced to be onboard.

This has nothing to do with Brad, nor Sigal who I wish the best, Nor will I hijack, troll or flame any here. The bottom line is due to SOE being involved in any way shape or form I will not buy it, nor support it. A shame really, game looked great.

I wish all who try, and buy a great time, and will always wonder how great the game might have been...

SWTOR. Face it, in the Scooby Doo Mystery Solving Van of coolness, this game is Velma. In this current MMO climate it has about as much chance for survival as a group of inquisitive teenagers in a 1980s slasher flick. -Tardcore May, 2011

He's not bashing, that is the difference.  Some just troll for no reasons because they lost their jedi or something... SWG was never THAT good.  I hope people will understand that someday.
