Yup, it's true comrades; we refuges have found a new home. Head over to the
Vanguard: Saga of Heroes forum to see all the insane praise raving about the game since the last patch. Amazing.
To find out
why this MMORPG is now the OFFICIAL home of the troubled SWG Refuges check out the links below.
www.joinvanguard.com/www.vanguardsoh.com/faq.phpOur ship has come in. The Force is strong with this one!
Just a few of Vanguards features:
*No zones/instances. Just 1 freaking HUGE open world in Vanguard!
*Player placed houses. The houses are not zoned. The only difference is you can only build on pre-determined plots in order to protect the environment (brilliant, SWG should have done this). The home decoration options are about 100 times that of SWG. You can even build a house on any one of hundreds of remote islands.
*In Vanguard there are literally over 60,000 items in the world already and every single item can be dropped in your house like in SWG.
*Vanguard features the "you can go anywhere" mentality. If you see it you can go there.
*Harvesting resources so reminds me of SWG. Hell, when you chop down a tree for wood the tree actually falls to the ground where you can then harvest it.
*SWG had space travel - Vanguard has sea travel! Huge open oceans to travel upon with your player-made boats of all sizes.
*You can tame wild beasts and mount them. In Vanguard you can fly dozens of mounts anywhere!
*The most amazing character-creation options ever. Period.
*You can custom design clothes, armor, weapons and even 'brand' it with your own logo.
*You can create and name your own songs (Bard).
* Item decay! And the most impressive crafting system ever devised.
*The CHALLENGE you sorely miss... is back!
And on and on! The information is out there....

EDIT (01-21-07): I hear ya guys about SOE. I am not even going to defend them, and I never have. F*** 'em.But I challenge you to list another game that even comes close to what SWG had. Make a point-by-point comparison (like I did above).

I miss the good ol' days when nerds were actually intelligent.
I just hope they offer more customization options on character creation, it's very basic at the moment, just a rudimentary morphing tool. You want a fatter char? stretch him out sideways lol. More hair options i think is a must, i HATE being a clone in other MMO's, as the only way i can spend lots of time in an MMO is if i identify with the char and play as him.
They even advertised their character-creation options as "the end to the sameness of characters."
I do agree too that the system could use a bit of polish before launch however.
I miss the good ol' days when nerds were actually intelligent.
For those not keeping score, SWG too could have used a bit of polish before it was launched. Sigil signs up with SOE and next thing you know they're pushing the product out the door too soon.
I give it 12 months till the first combat revamp.
SWG Team Mtg.
I'm curious, just exactly how much you being paid to shill for $OE?
The game REQUIRES raiding, or you get second rate gear. How much fun can travel be, when the travel times are so long that you can get into a "caravan" and log out to come back the next day and maybe find you are finally at your destination?
I'll wait till the game has been public a bit and see what they come up with.
I want a game thats complex and class influence is low
RIP swg
Listen, Im not bursting bubbles here but trust me when I say... a SWG vet does not just jump into another SOE product that easy.
Sorry, just making a common sense observation.

Winner of the worst MMOS goes to.... the NGE and SWG..!!! http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm?loadFeature=1034&bhcp=1
Agreed, although I think the desperate could still swarm to it. The disappointed masses need to remember that Sony should earn our trust and almighty dollar. If SOE turns Vanguard into a swg charade and you pay for it, then shame-on-YOU!
I agree.
Sounds like the OP is trying to pick up 300k displaced gamers for a certain company.
Vanguard may be improving. It may not. But I won't go near it. Sigil will sellout and it will be EQ/SWG all over again.
Being scammed twice was enough for me.
When I heard of Vanguard I had high hopes that it might be complex enough to satiate my appetite. Then came the SOE involvement. Like it or not a vicious murder was allowed into the house, and that makes it hard to relax or even enjoy yourself. All the claims to the contrary will not calm my fears about SOE involvement. I also know it will cripple the community to an extent. The fact that it scares me probabally scares a great many consumers, and most likely alot of my mmorpg friends will not care to let SOE have its way with them.
Then I read a article while surfing the net that preorders will get special rewards. Not uncommon granted, but from reading the rewards listed I got the impression that they did impart a real in game advantage not a cosmetic advantage. That seems to speak up to the possibility of hostage takeing. I am sick of playing games that strong arm me into buying things rather then haveing a choice in the matter. SWG was very good about strong arming people into haveing to buy the expansions to be competitive. With JTL players got to bypass shuttle waits. With RoTW there were a number of great loots. With ToOW there were very powerful items some that would actually make some professions more playable. Needless to say you ended up fealing you had to buy these things to stay competitive rather then to enhance your experience. The idea of a game starting off punishing me for not preordering is not a pleasant thought. I am competitive if I will be reduced to loser status for not being an early adopter then thats not a game worth playing. To be honest if that is the case it pretty much bars me from joining later on. I am a first rate player I shouldn't be treated like a second class citizen. Cosmetic is one thing giveing another player a real non earned edge over me is a different matter entirely.
I am interested, but there are a couple things here that twist my gut. First SOE involvement I do not like them, and I do not want to give them money. They are bad people, and they tried to rip me off. Afterwards they even insulted me by placeing labels on myself, and others who shared a point of view. They have a rotten disposition, and are to not be trusted. When SOE is involved anything is possible. That alone makes this game highly speculative. The second thing is the fear that this will be a strong arm sales tactic kind of situation. What happens if I do not want to buy an expansion, or I decide to adopt a wait, and see approach? Will I be punished?
I would like to hear what the fan has to say about this, but I will say this is not a refuge for SWG exiles. They for the most part want nothing more to do with SOE. You are saying they should go back to SOE that is counterintuitive, and probabally what SOE wants. Reverse psychology dictates that a SWG exile should do the opposite, and steer clear of this game.

SOE IS INVOLVED.
This is not the game for any self respecting former SWG player.
We got the shaft so many times I lost count, If you go to vsoh you may as well start lubing up right now.

I miss the good ol' days when nerds were actually intelligent.
I don't read nothing about skill system..
Uh! But.. Vanguard is a lvl system? sure?.. how SWG pre-CU? ahh no no, SWG was based in the skill system...
Is possible to compare a skill system game with a lvl system game? pls.. common sense.
Common sense? Let's hear it my friend.... name the game.
I miss the good ol' days when nerds were actually intelligent.
And I have to say, I smell a plant and I'm not talking about artichokes here.
I'll also share a unique viewpoint, one from a beta-tester. I've been in the VGSOH veta testing program and got fed up with the reality, the advertisements are a lot of spin. The reality of Vanguard is very different from the pretty picture portrayed by the marketing, the reality of Vanguard is ugly and nothing like what the advertising would have you believe at all. Don't be duped, get into the open beta and see for yourselves, if you can.
UO was great in it's day as was PnP (both still fun). But we are talking a different breed here. UO was like a MUD with graphics.
You smell a plant? Maybe it's the one I just finished smoking....
EDIT: Any one else wanna try to "name that game?" (see my 2 posts above)
I miss the good ol' days when nerds were actually intelligent.
I registered as I got a bit peed off,
After hitting a link thinking it was going to be something rather refreshing only to find a game that is linked to SOE, and being told it was a SWG refugee's new home? don't make me laugh,
SOE is not for one moment having anymore of my money,
SWG was a very fine MMORPG with more content than you could shake a stick at. then SOE decided to drop everything that made it so great, Ignore its customers, and then Ruin it even farther by eliminating skill based level system in favour of a stupid xp system
As for name another game like SWG well, i don't care if this gets deleted or not, but people should be made aware. and as its NOT illegal (it was built from the ground up)
How about heading over to www.SWGemu.com This is the REAL home of SWG refugee's not this pile of crap.
Apology's to the administrator's and staff of this forum, but if someone is going to peddle another game, to an already betrayed populous, then a bit of care should be taken.
This post to me just sounded very patronizing. and ill thought out.

UO a Mud with graphics..
You see?, simply two words, (UO) and there is you have the "name that game" totally based at skill system.
Mud with graphics? is possible , but is un MMORPG and was the best. For me, much better that any actual level system mmorpg.
I repeat, to compare VG with SWG pre-CU..
And dude, I was posting links to the (then) new SWG EMU like what, almost a year ago? Before posting links to those assholes site was made against the rules here. I follow the emu and hope they succeed even if they are socially inept (and they are).
Learn to let things start to heal. Negative energy poisons the soul.... peace.
I miss the good ol' days when nerds were actually intelligent.
I do give a damn nothing about such comparison list. It is not and it will never be SWG. A unique game cannot be reproduced.
You follow your agenda and that's fine with me. Just don't expect people to go over a unbiased list and then believe Yeah! Man that is my SWG-like game.
It is not. Make a biased list with pro and contra IF you already are going to compare. If you're going to have fun and love the game, good for you. Best of luck mate! Still that doesn't make it SWG like and there are enough arguments against VGSoH if you're actually going ahead and inform yourself. Any game with any or many of these features could be compared like that. It just comes down to HOW you present it. So yeah... what you posted is a plain and shameless plug.
Weather SOE has a say in the game or not, I really do not care, If they are associated with the game then that is good enough reason to boycott them,
Also, I never said you LINKED me to a SOE website, I said You linked me to a game that is INVOLVED with SOE and that you stated it as a SWG refugee NEW HOME. which is very patronizing to anyone who feels so strongly about how SOE treated them.
Regardless,
I find your argument Rather MUTE anyway, You obviously care more about SOE as you still play EQ2 as is evident by your XFIRE Sig
I think you misunderstand the reason why many people feel this way about SWG and how not many games will even cut it close to those of us who spent large amounts of well earned cash, and time, on not only a failing game thanks to a incompetent and down right ignorant SOE DEV (Smed) but also the fact that most people lost some great friends
And regardless of what you may think about the staff at the SWGemu, they are delivering on something that SOE failed to do.
As for "learn to let things heal" statement, I wonder how many others are fed up with being Treated like crap, by a company that thinks only about a profit.
