Vanguard's place In MMO History.... BELIEVE IT

Nikoz78Nikoz78 Member UncommonPosts: 910
In my many long years of playing MMORPG's  I have never seen a development team more dedicated, more honest & upfront and more sincerely passionate about their creation as Vanguards producers. All can say is amazing. There is a reason people believe in these guys....

Could the arrival of Vanguard on the MMO scene one day be noted as the end of the so-called "MMORPG Dark-Age" (2nd  gen. era)??

What I am sure of is there has never been a more wonderfully complex, detailed and immersive virtual world than that of Telon.

Well, Ive got to admit that the last really big patch improved performance for me a lot, so much so that I could actually run the game "balanced" whereas prior to the patch I was hucking along at "highest performance" settings and it was ...unplayable.

Too bad that improvement came so late for my part, I would have loved to done more beta testing.  I ended up reporting about 15 bugs so I feel like the beta was worth my time anyway.  Picked up my pre-order package today, looking very forward to fully exploring Telon!

Brad, is that you there?  C'mon now...step away from the keyboard...

I like the game too, don't know much about how good the developers are.... we'll see how much improvement the game does in the first 3 months then I'll let you know.....

Oh look, another thread by this guy promoting Vanguard, saga of a flop.  How much are you getting paid to do this?

It is the best of 3rd generation MMOs, but 4th generation are around the corner. In about 6-8 months when the next generation are out expect to start reading about all the new common features that WoW, Vanguard and all the other 3rd gens are lacking.

Hopefully this next generation competition with its innovatins while renew the spark of imagination in MMO developers.

But there ARE no 3rd gen MMORPG's even out yet Vyava .

1st Gen: UO, EverQuest, DAoC, SWG, etc.

2nd Gen: EverQuest II, WoW, DDO, etc.

3rd Gen: Warhammer, Vanguard, AoC, etc

This year marks the beginning of the 3rd generation.

I played the Beta for the last five months, It's immersive and large, and not entirely bad...but you describe it as the second coming. It does sound like your on the payroll. It's simply not as good as you seem to think it is. I believe that it's impact on MMORPG history will fall somewhere around Asheron's Call or Everquest II. It's more a crafter's niche and won't end any MMORPG dark age.  All I can say is it's ok.

My money will be on Aoc.

Yes im very excited about the game too but I in no way believe it will be a second coming or a wow killer. I love diplomacy and the adventuring sphere isn't half bad and yes im certainly getting vanguard and playing it for awhile. I will say though that I am more excited about warhammer now as I believe that has a better chanceof being the wow killer

why does everyone talk about WoW killer this, WoW killer that? who really cares, nothing is going to kill WoW except time at this point. i dont like the game myself, but you cant argue with its success. what you should have said is, "this might not be the best game, but i will play it for a while." "i am really looking forward to trying out Warhammer though, it looks like a better game, in my opinion" because this is just flame bait, and you should have realized that.

Lets not get too excited now. The game has improved some since open beta started but I seriously doubt it will have mass appeal simply because of what makes it different. The only people it will really appeal to are the ones who want old school 1st generation play with some updated graphics and with some nice refined 2nd generation touches. This is most definitely not a third generation game play wise. I think they are doing a wonderful job patching and polishing but I think it will evolve into more of a fantasy game EvE as far as the community goes. A nice game but for sure not one with mass appeal.

I see you have backed off the performance rants... OMG you said "A nice game"

Not sure what your intending by stating that this game will have a community like EvE. Is that a negative your passing off or a positive ? I see you like Spellborn, thats a bit depressing you going soft on us Dog ?

I really care because I'd love to be part of a deep game ike this that could actually have alot of support behind it so it could last longer. I'll say whatever I wish who cares if I get flamed. Forum text wont kill me :)

I have played Vanguard for almost a year, I think, and it has developed very nicely, I wish I could say it's perfect, but what is? I find the anti-WOW hysteria to be amusing. After all, why do you need to do the exact opposite of WOW to kill it, just do it better. Most new games have appeared to focus on being more “Hardcore,” and Vanguard seems to fit that bill, especially, if you listen to rabid fan boys on the Vanguard forum. Who are so vicious, I worry it might drive the player base away. But in reality a “hardcore,” and lets face that term is very subjective, game will not kill WOW unless it a good game first and always first.

Remember one thing about Warhammer, it's a licensed game and that make me nervous. Why you ask, well they have to pay the licensing fees somehow, and I remember Star War Galaxies. Licensed games always seem to suffer from a lack content. I remember in the early days of SWG, they had focus groups, but the developers never really read the forums. Content is what the masses wanted instead they got a half ass combat revamp, which lead down the road to the gutted abomination which is SWG of today.

I have to agree with him, the improvements and patches have been amazing. They have improved the game so much in the last 2 weeks it's crazy. Any other MMO would have taken  months to get the patches out that they have.

It's just a game, some people will take to it, and some won't.  I think if it indeed will have aerial and naval combat, those aspects may become things other MMO's will look up, but will it be an MMO changing game?  Nah.

Vanguards came around some, Yesterday I saw some performance increases and some of the animations did not suck. That is a step in the right direction. I have seen a couple attempts at building some ambience, again a step in the right dierection. I always post what I feel positive or negative. As far as the Eve comment, that game has a great tight knit community. I can't stand the game myself but the community is good. If Vanguard ends up with a community like Eve , Sigal should be tickled pink imho.  I like what I have seen of Spellborn, WAR, LoTRO, and PoBS. My opinion is fluid on those yet because I have not seen any of them in action, but they have promise

It's place in MMO history before it even releases ?!?!

Let's give it some time. The foundation is laid, and it's VERY nice, but where it goes is going to be defined by how they finish adding features, fixing bugs, and so on. If Sigil does all of those things, then you can start talking about it, until then, it's just  a bunch of hot air, because NOBODY can accurately suggest what will happen.

You guys are under the impression that a game sells because there is a market demmand for it. On the contrary gaming is one of those consumer goods that generates demmand. If the game is good more people will play it if by good you mean an overal better game. Granted Vangaurd might beat many games in the rp aspect but when it comes to featuers, aerial combat isn't going to do it. Besides, I don't know if you knew this, probably not because you guys don't play wow, but WOW actually has aerial combat and is constantly introducing new content every patch.

Now I could buy Vangaurd, and probably will try it out because someone said it's like uo, which by the way will outlive vangaurd but not wow. Look at it this way, no pvp for mmorpgs in the future equals the death of that mmorpg. It's obvious that most people consider cooperative play a second to competitive as a fun factor. IT's just the way humans were made....besides if we didn't compete with each other we would all be the same thing and that would be extinct.

I love when people think their opinion is the only right one. The term "good" is wholly subjective. Just because you have been staring at a hole in the ground for five months doesn't mean you know the difference between it and your ass.

I also think Vanguard will earn it's place in MMO history. It has a HUGE seamless world without a single instance, largest race and class selection ever, plethora quests ranging from the easy to hair-pullingly hard, an insane view distance and THE best graphics in any MMO in current release. Add to that player craftable (and pilotable) ships, non-instanced housing and enough different mounts, ground based and flying, to choke a hydra, Vanguard has it ALL.

I seriously doubt it. IT's nothing but a EQ1 clone with better graphics and behind the scenes "zoning". I really don't get it why you people think this game is so great. I loved EQ1 cause it was original but just sticking a new paint job on the old girl ain't making it "new".

    Cheers.

Obviously. I just said that. Now rebut the factuality of what I said, just for kicks.

You have literally no clue what you are talking about. Do some reading, I don't have time to tell you all that's different than EQ. But one is boats that you can craft and pilot yourself. EQ didn't have that, nor does any other MMO besides UO and you couldn't craft them.

    Cheers.
