I predict less than 100k players within a year...

They might have lots starting but i think let it settle down and after a year everyone will be tired with it and would not be playing anymore or quit on the first day. The rest will enjoy the game but i think it's going to eb a very small player base more like PS rather than EQ2. I think what's hurt Vanguard the most is releasing too early and not being ready + it's going to take Sigil longer than a year to get upto standards. People generally don't give games a 2nd chance so thats why it's hurt sooo much.

90% of people i know who tried it arn't playing anymore and most people do not like it. With everyother game out there and most people on WOW then Vanguard doesn't have anywhere to go. People who play EQ wont leave for this game on the whole too and people who loved pre cu SWG wont be drawn in tooo much with the game. With games coming out like AOC and WAR, even more people will be drawn away too in the near future.

I didn't want to post this here because of the vanbois but id be flamed for posting in general forums lol, i'm going to be flamed here anyways.

I told Sigil on beta forums releasing early would really limit their customers and cause servers to be empty + kill Vanguard for the long terms. Even games like EQ2 has loadsa empty servers and that has 250kish players "so SOE said a long time ago" though i don't see evidence of this.

Its like saying Turbine could be brought by SOE... It COULD happen.

What makes you think SoE does not *already* own them, lock, stock, and barrel?  Just because they say so?  Phooey.  The early, and disasterous, release of V:SoH should be enough to indicate who is *really* in charge of V:SoH.

I'd say as long as it's running AND progressing.

It released buggy and unfinished? Isn't that the unwritten rule of the MMORPG industry: NEVER RELEASE A POLISHED FINISHED GAME? Seriously I can't think of one MMORPG I've ever played that wasn't buggy and unstable thru it's first month or longer. Everyone forgets how crappy WOW, EQ2, EQ1, COH, SWG, and every other game was coming out the gate.

I would like to know what the numbers are going to be on this game but I am subscribed to the game and have a vested interest in such. I'm not sure though why people who aren't playing it and none of their friends are playing it care so much?

I predict in one year there will be people on the mmorpg forums bitching about a game, and I predict no game will be left behind in the quest of bitching.

It has a ton of neat features. I see it surviving longer then you think. Its a really awesome game, content wise. Sure the graphics aren't supreme (well maybe they are, but it seems my computer can't handle too much of it!), but the content is awesome. Its a really relaxing game. Not many games offer the ownership of a house, or boat for that matter. Flying mounts are awesome and there are plenty of unique races and classes. The game will stick around, and even if it gets small, most people will enjoy the awesome community.

Realistically who knows, thats my 2 cents.

Brad will sell.  And SOE will buy it like they did Matrix Online.  At least that is my prediction.

LOL If any of your posts are a reflection of the questions you ask in game no wonder you get yelled at

    50 000 * 15 = 750 000 / 750 000 * 12 = 9 000 000

    100 000 * 15 = 1 500 000 / 1 500 000 * 12 = 18 000 000

    150 000 * 15 = 2 250 000 / 2 250 000 * 12 = 27 000 000

I hate doomsayers who have slated a MMORPG to death  the day after it has been released.

No, the game will thrive. it will grow. It's got a lot going for it.

These people don't remember because they took the same stance with Vanguard that they took with all of the other games, LOL.

They more than likely came in to their respective games a few months to almost a year after release and somehow got thought they were there since launch.  I for one can't believe how stupid people can be about these things, and I don't mean that in a derogatory way.  But it is obvious that these people are of a low IQ and you would think that PC Gamers would be a little bit better.

    AoC... funcom... delayed release...

Will AoC do like VG?  Release unfinished because the dev time took too long (AoC got pushed back..)... = running out of money?  Hmm... :D

Neither WoW or CoH had buggy launches.  Both were very smooth.  The problems WoW suffered was that it was so popular that the servers were flooded and you had to wait in queue to get on but the game ran great.  CoH ran great at launch as well.  I didn't play EQ or EQ2 at launch, but SWG was a major disaster.

  • rungardrungard Member Posts: 1,035

lets hope they get there 250k. as more mmo's fail, it limits the variety of the games to come in the future as less will be willing to invest in them.

I think it's great and i think it's buggy.  AoC will be the same.  It does not bother me and it will not.  I will not storm AoC board to make a point... there's NO POINT in doing that.

By great do you mean having to wait 2-5 mins+ just to loot things, access your inventory, or use mail/auction, if at all?  If so, then yeah it ran GREAT!   Mind you, these were on both Low-Medium population servers that I was mainly playing on.  These problems were still there on different servers over 1.5 years into the release of the game.  It was even worse on High-Max.  These were not rare/random occurrences in the game.

This is what I expect will happen.

It will start out at around 175,000 to 225,000.

That number will drop to around 125,000 - 150,000 as people figure out what it is.

SOE will make sure (either by holding Sigil's feet to the fire or doing it themselves) that lots of content is added and the game is made more casual/solo friendly, while also adding to the raid content.  Expect micro expansions every 2-3 months and major expansions every 6-9 months (a la EQ2).

Eventually (read in 2-3 years) they will get to and stabilize at or around 300,000 subscribers.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

If you think wow didn't have buggy launches how can you say vanguard has?  I was at launch for wow, one i could not log in for 3 days due to a client bug that caused it crash, once i got in you had the whole server mess, and 3 hardly any of the newbie quests worked.  Some you could just abandon and take again, others you just couldn't complete.  At least for me i had horrible lag(network lag not video) due to server instability, servers crashing ever y 20 to 30 minutes pluss many others i can't remember since i quit after 3 months and had 4 or so 60's already.

now compare it to vg, servers has been pretty stable for a launch, i've only ran accross 1 quest i couldn't complete out of about a 100. i've had no client crashes.  Most of the actual bugs i have experience is minor issue that is not gamebreaking, most notably the dissappearing mob(BUT you can still kill it, just can't loot it, plus all you have to do is move and it will reappear). but for the most part except for 1 quest i've had nothing that i'd consider a game breaking bug.  I have no performance issues either but i run on a top of the line maching thats barely 2 months old.

CoH was laggy at launch, took a little ironing out to fix it all, but not too bad.

DDO is still an unfinished game almost a year after release...and being reworked to fix bugs...

EQ2 was a pile of crap at release.

CoV was really laggy at release.

EVERY expansion for everquest was bugged at release. (not to mention $25-$35) At least that's where DDO and CoH/V have it right, lots of free content release.

I'm interested in Vanguard, but I didn't get to play in Open Beta, since I didn't meet any of the riteria, so I haven't bought in...that's where alot of people decide whethter to buy or not, is in Beta...I'm not spending $50 for a game I haven't tried...I'll try V:SoH when they give me a free 14 day trial. even 7 days would help)

    and I never touched WoW.

No it makes mmorpg:s MORE varied & evolved if investors realize that you cant publish the same junk over & over with a polished box. Edit: Regarding to mmorpg:s in general, havent tried Vanguard (yet).

They need to realize that people are far more picky then they were 8 years ago when EQ came out.

Vanguard suffers from an EGO problem.  Many of the people calling the shots over there are living 8 years in the past, when EQ was king.  They have not been accountable to anyone but themselves.  I suspect that Vanguard is one of the better examples we have of what can happen when developers call all the shots and have no one to be accountable to when it comes to budgeting and production control.  I want Vanguard to succeed so I can finally lay my Iksar monk to rest but so far, they have failed miserably to attract me to their game.  And I thought hard core EQers were the ones they wanted to flock over to them?

Station access has 200k people? Hard to beleive. I would think around 55-60k at the very most.
