I feel ripped off...

I couldn't feel more ripped off than I do now. Not only did I pay up for a subscription to get into beta early but I also ended up buying this half-assed game. Hype and my stupidity has beaten me this time.

I am not going to turn this into a review but simply say that if Sigil took more time finishing this product and at least created some official forums they would turned the so many disapointed who are basicly going to leave within a months time and those who have left already into long term suscribers.

I don't care what financial strain this company was in. Forcing a release on such a half-assed product shows poor time/money management by sigil.

I only hope other developers and sigil themselves learn from their tragic mistake. They will make a quick buck but in the long run the suscriber base will die to better upcomming releases. Such a shame since I was looking forward to this game.

Also I feel sorry for anyone thinking that the patches sigil is releasing are significant improvements to the game. So far the only difference has been some spells in different order. Crap spell effects updated to poor spell effects and a 2% performance increase. Far from making any significant progress.

Maybe 3-4 years ago a game like this would have been acceptable, but take away the enviromental graphics and you got yourself a huge disapointment.

... it feels hot here lol.. flame away suckers, but stop lying to yourself and take a good look and comparison to whats infront of you.

thats it..

Sad to hear you feel ripped off.

However, many many people feel different, and are actually enjoying the game. Maybe the game just wasn't for you, which is fair enough.

I can tell you're quite upset and may be exaggerating things. Personally I find the game to be making signifigant improvements, as well as being generally well made. Obviously the game has work to do, but I would argue that it's not as bad as you claim.

Feel free to move on to another game where you'll have fun. If you're just going to be angry about the game, there's no sense in having you play it. We will continue to enjoy our game and thank you for trying it.

    Have fun!

Aye i will be the first to admit its not a complete game, But it has came a long long way since beta 3 when i started. Trust me the game needs work, but its alot more polished than others that have released.

I have to agree with the original poster but with a bit more detatchment. I was not ripped off since I was in beta and never had that much fun and found performance a big issue. I have a very good machine so I will not post it's specs since I have in other threads. So do not go there, my machince is good enough for vanguard! Sigil needs to work on this issue. This game was so hyped  and Sigil rushed it to market that it was doomed to fail for many. I have read the forums and sure many are happy with the game but just as many are not. I have seen many of the post by players who like Vanguard. Many of those players even though they like it complain about performance issues.  I am tired of the players that like Vanguard saying the only reason people do not like it is that it is not their style. Wrong! the game is simply not ready for live release. Vanguard is a good game it was also released to early. It lacks the polish it needs. My feeling is it will do OK and have a dedicated following but it has left the door open for another mmo to really reach the masses the way WoW did. Vanguard unfortunetly is not that game. It has the potential to be a good game but it does not bring anything new to the table.

I just had a group of 6 Vanguard players, who started Vanguard together, contacted me about joining my guild in EQ2. They feel let down by Vanguard but do not want to go back to WoW. Those that feel let down by Vanguard or are waiting a few months for Sigil to improve the game come checkout EQ2 if you have not. You maybe very suprised.

Sorry you feel ripped off but there's alot of others out there who think it was well worth the price.  Sure it could've used a month or two in beta to polish up before release but things happen,  All mmo's or released prematurely unfortunetly due to the nature of the fact they can easily patch it after release.  This is just the way the industry seems to work whether we like it or not.  Don't get me wrong I love vanguard and will play it for awhile to come don't see any other mmo coming out that has my interest.  So i'll be playing for awhile to come along with many others.

I will make one statement for everyone.

No MMORPG is ever finished,  Yes they had issues, yes they should of waited for release, but unlike Blizzard or even SOE.  They are not a billion dollar compary who can throw millions into development without nothing coming back in.  You know WOW had one of the biggest development budgets ever.  Same with EQ2.   Vanguard was developed by a small company and only had 40 ish million to use.  They  got what they could out of it.  The game was in development for 4-5 years.  What else do you want ?  At sometime the game has to come out.  They have to start getting money back so they can conitnue to develop the game.   It is a game after all and there #1 goal is to make money.    Any company that tells you the bottom line isnt there #1 goal isnt telling you the truth or isnt a billion dollar company that has shareholders and private investers and thousands of employees to look after.

The game is getting better, in 6 months most the issues now wil be gone.  While youll be where ?  Playing what ?  A game that is just released with the same issues you dont like about Vanguard.  Stop and think, put time into the game and youll get rewarded down the road.  The fact is you think Age of Conan wont have bugs ?  Spellborn ?  Warhammer ?   POTBS ?   All these games will have major bugs and issues during and even after beta.   I cant think of one game that was ready for release when it came out.  Not even WOW was ready, EQ2 surley wasnt.

So in all give it a fair shot, a week or 2 isnt a fair shot at the game in any sense.  I mean what level are you ? 15 ?    I was in beta got to max levels during every stage of it.   I loved the game,  but that said I havent bought it yet.  The performance issues for me would of prevented me from playing it how I wanted.   In a month or 2 ill go buy it or try a trial, but dont give up on the game.   Its a MMORPG you bought the game so you can always come back in 6 months and see how it is.  Good luck in your future gaming expierences thou.

    Moral of the Story.....

Never buy into the hype of a new game.  Wait a while until there's at least a free trial.  At least then you would'nt have wasted $40.00 or whatever.

MMORPG companies live off hype and expectations.

Never be afraid of choices. More choices are always good things.

Markn12's post makes my point. Here is a person who really loved the game but did not buy and is waiting since performance issues got in the way of enjoying the true experience Sigil tried to offer. WoW changed everything including the budget needed to create a great mmorpg. If you do not have the funds to develope fully stay out of the market. It may suck that smaller companies have a hard time in today market place but WoW changed that forever. Even with a smaller budget you would think Sigil with 4 to 5 years development could have released a polished game. Companies can no longer expect players to foot the bill for months of beta testing those days are gone.

I believe that we who invest our time in new MMO's have to know that we are going to be beta testers at launch.  And, even though I know this going in, it still does bother me when I have to submit bug reports.  I feel somehow financially violated when I spend good money and then have to turn around and spend time helping the company I'm paying improve the product.  Especially when its a bug that screws up my progress in the game and may have cost me a lot of valuable time.  Having said that, the big question becomes - Is it worth it?  For a game as deep and complex as Vanguard I'm willing to bite the bullet because in the long run I really believe that this game has the potential to immerse me in a wonderful gaming experience for many months.

Them days will never be gone because of hype.

My point was dont give up on the game,  dont just throw it away or forget about it.  Try it in a few months.   The game itself the concepts the graphics, the class trees, the races.  The entire idea of the game is awesome.  It has features most games cant compare to.  Yes its features other games have but what game has them all ?  What game has these races, what game has 4 main healing classes.  Again the game is great and when I upgrade my 6800 GT ti 7800 or hey I win that 8800 on the main page :)  ill buy the game and play it.

Wrong they did have a bank the size of SOE, but they closed the bank :P. SOE funded Sigil, SOE stopped paying out which made Sigil take this rash decision.

As long as you keep putting up with that, it will be true (at least for SOE games). If gamers start growing sacks and say "no, we expect more" you will get treated better.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

With that pass requires a bigger payment per month, now what games from SOE would you play rather than Vanguard... I can think of none. EQ, EQ2 lost their luster, SWG...well I don't want to get in that cause I could write a novel of what's wrong with that IP, Matrix Online they just took over without any thought of what to do next, Planetside....nope. Any game with the exception of EQ has been ruined by SOE's dark and twisted hands without even a care in the world to those investing in it.

Also wouldn't getting some life mean leaving the pc screen? Just a thought.

Can't say I'm at all surprised that some people are having reactions such as this.  There was so much hype surrounding this game, especially from gamers, that it seemed like this game was going to be the messiah of the mmorpg world.  Rather than just being curious about a new game and willing to give it a try, people were dead set on the idea that Vanguard was going to come out perfect, revolutionize the industry and forever change the mmo landscape.  Is anyone surprised that with expectations like this a lot of people are upset with the end product?  I won't trash WoW, I play WoW, but the fact is that it seems like everyone wants every new game to be a WoW-killer, rather than just a good solid product that for the most part is fairly fun.  Well, it's not going to happen.  And if a lot of people ever want to enjoy another mmo, they're going to have to come to grips with that.

This is laughable, go eat your pop-tarts. Of coarse they put their own money into it, do you not know what a publisher is? The point is SOE funded it at one point and then cut-lose the funds. Next time think before you post and post intelligently. Calling me a moron makes you look like a fool.

Can not say I feel ripped of, I were somewhat aware of its state when I purchased it, as such I can only blame myself.

Thing is, I do not think the game is bad, it has some of the good old things along with some new ones, a good blend taken from a lot of other games as well as some improvements.

The main problem as I see it is polish.

Neither the client nor the server side software is really up to par, but they are at least aknowledging this and are saying this is their top priority.

The user interface, quest logs, conversations and such also feel a bit unfinnished but are in my eyes minor nuisances.

For me and my somewhat old computer, ( allthough still within sys reqs ) the performance issues are my top priority as well.

The fact that I play on a EU server, wich seem to have this much more then the US ones does not help at all.

Allthough I am fairly confident the game will do a EQ2/DDO workover sometime in the future, the very VERY steep leveling curve and overall character progress I think is liked by far to few people to be a viable long term financial success.

    Just my tougths of course.

As it has been mentioned a few times before,  Vanguard was rumoured to have cost between $45 million (EQ2's cost) and $70 Million (WoW's cost), making it the second most expensive MMOG to have been developed.

While I can't say I feel "ripped off", as I knew exactly what I was getting into the day of release, I know how the feels for sure.

It's so easy for some of you to flame away at the OP and live in your perfect little world where Sigil, Vanguard and Brad are kings but it's just not so. The game has serious, actually let's make that VERY serious issues and IMHO the OP has full right to feel the way he does. And I say that as someone who's playing and having an OK time in the game.

I really don't think anyone could doubt the potential that Vanguard has BUT as we all know from games gone past, potential does not bring a crowd. I'm hoping they can make a serious turn around with this game.

Heh, i havent even seen the game, but i would just say one thing....

Funcom.... they was just about to release their game no thiese days, but what do they see, their game are not to be like "others" half finished, half diecent and wrong mentality from the devs, they just "okey, we need half year more on this guys, lets move on"

what happends to the forum to the game, the fans cheer them, they dont want to have a buggy game, and cheer them to work on.

I VERY MUCH doubt that sigil and the others would loose any, or at all by giving it a few more months of beta testing, hell they are having a open betatest for 15 dollars a month... this is just sickenining me, they would have taken in the "loss" of developing it a few more months with:

"dude, go run the game, its smoooth!!"

    than

    "i feel ripped off..."

as he said, i dont care about echonomic history of the devs, but this is just digging their own grave!!

I just hope that other dev houses see that this IS NOT THE WAY TO GO!!!

    Amen

When will people stop making excuses for Game companies releasing 1/2 finished products ? , Sigil is the current in a long line of game companies that release a product that is not ready for the market and expect subscribers to stump up money whilst paying for an incomplete game, in the past at least some companies had the courage to apologize for the state of the game. But now its become the 'norm' people need to stop allowing this sort if thing to happen by either cancelling subscriptions and demanding money back on the box purchase or by filing reports with the FTC.

This is not aimed specifically at SIGIL, but they ARE the latest company to adopt this cynical business practice and it needs to STOP.

Because players need to feed their addiction? Because of ignorance? (blind fatih)

It's my only possible reasoning as to why someone would pay to play for a beta.
