This is taken from Game Spy's review of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes
Vanguard: Saga of Heroes was recently profiled in the New York Times with some interesting quotes from Sigil co-founder and executive producer Brad McQuaid. "People ask me, 'are you launching a finished game?' and the answer is 'no, we're launching a game that is good enough to launch, but it's not finished.' And that's why I love these games: because they should never be finished."

He's basically telling us to all lower the bar so they can jump it without effort.
Screw you Brad. Give us a complete game... unless we can just pay you when it's done.

What an interesting, commercial, tricky word play: "Good enough to release but not finished!" when the truth is "not good enough to release and not finished!"
Not paying a "cent" to this!
Devs should know they can only feed word plays to fanatical, minority base and not to sane and mature gamers.

It is scandalous when you tack on a 15 dollar a month fee. Launching an unfinished product is different than adding additional content to further promote game enjoyment.
To add the fact that VG needs some kind of a NASA's supercomputer or similar to run on highest possible settings without too much fps-loss...

"Unfinished product" seems to mean different things to different people. It's subjective. To some, they consider all MMOs to be "unfinished," because there are always minor tweaks and content added over the years. Those that go by this definition of "unfinished product" are able to blind themselves to the glaring problems of Vanguard, and accept whatever Brad has to say.
To the rest, "unfinished product" means that the classes are still in need of major buffs and nerfs (instead of just tweaks). It means that zones were filled in, but not balanced for fun gameplay. It means that there is great disparity in difficulty for same leveled areas in different parts of the gameworld (one early dungeon is a snap to do, while an equal leveled dungeon is almost too hard for a full group). It means that features that were promised, aren't there. It means that the code isn't optimized to run smoothly. And it means that the list of bugs is nearly as large as the manual.
Snark all you want about the other games that were released "unfinished." That's just an excuse to avoid looking at Vanguard's true state. Games like DAoC and WoW, they released as finished products, then evolved over time. Vanguard launched at the time it did because Sigil ran out of money. If they had been given the option, the game would still be in Beta.
Actually, it still is in Beta. They just suckered the community into paying for it. And with a smile, no less. But at least you can comfort yourselves with the knowledge that if it hadn't had launched when it did, it would have never launched at all. Horray! You're no longer customers, you're investors!
Seriously.

And they still aren't. They weren't and still aren't according to Brad's definition; who obviously tried to reframe mindsets into thinking NO MMO is ever 'finished;, and then go on to make an opinion that Vanguard is good as is.
A majority of players have a different idea of what 'finished' is, and mostly it's simply a game loaded with 'finished' content with anything unfinished left out. It's not even worth nitpicking over a way to generalize what a 'finished' MMO is, but running into bugs galore with day-one content like two classes and alchemy missing is certainly nothing that needs to be equated to what should be typical of MMO launches.
Not being 'finished' isn't the same as being able to patch and expand a game. I mean, it's not even a specific affliction to the MMO genre; the genre isn't to be without standards. Do you not call Quake 3 finished because it didn't release with Team Tournament maps? Was Oblivion not finished because Knights of the Nine came out later?
It's unacceptable, Brad is trying to hijack the standard bar for not only what 'third-generation' is, but what's 'good enough' to launch with.
I mean, is anyone else NOT reading this the same as me? 'Good enough' to launch is being bug-ridden with content gaps, two classes slashed from release alongside alchemy?
Just because there's promises on the horizon of all of that being rectified in due time, isn't the same as if the content were actually there. Anyone can have a good idea or wishlist, watch me; flying ships would be AWESOME. Now boats aren't so useless anymore in the live game.
Sorry for being a bit cynical, especially when I completely understand why Brad is in a position to be nothing more than an optimistic for the sake of his company and game; but he needs to stop speaking just for those who buy his words and speak real to those who've played MMOs in the last few years and are aware of what's on the horizon.
Setting the bar low will bite Sigil in the ass when a company and game comes along and does things correct after you've poised them to be somewhere in the clouds in comparison to how low Sigil chooses to be.
The reviewer had this to say in response:
On this point, I have to respectfully disagree with Mr. McQuaid. By their nature, online role-playing games are constantly evolving, but they should still bear some semblance to a finished product.
I TOTALLY agree with the reviewer. That's the problem with the MMO world today. Too many companies think it's ok to launch a half finished, not completely tested product and expect consumers to pay for it. SOE was famous for this and now other companies think it's ok to do.
Stop paying for Beta! Make these companies be responsible for their products being complete just like every other business in the world is expected to have!

Mage Blink?
Arcane missles?
If your going to compare Sigil to the newbs over at Blizzard at least be fair. Blizzard devs just introduced a whole new bug into the game not that long ago that turns every member of a raid into a warrior during the Nefarion fight. WoW was a laggy, bug riddled game at release and that was if you could even log into it. Vangaurd has had one of the smoothest launches to date.
Brad also flat out said that he wishes he could have a few more months of beta but reality set in and they had to release. Missed that news or something?
Every MMO has bugs. Even Everquest which has been out for over 7 years still has bugs from the early days. Get over yourself and design a better game if you don't like it.

I have a 60 mage, played it for 2 months, I never had issues with Arcane missiles or Blink. Perhaps you would care to elaborate?"introduced" a new bug in the game, you make it sound like they put it in their intentionally, but either way, Nefarion hasnt been in WoW since day one. Unfortunately I cant argue whether or not this is a bug as I havent fought Nefarion.
Connection Lagg, isnt a bug. WoW doesnt lagg anymore, if it does, choose a low pop server. However if you are refering to graphics lagg, perhaps turning down your settings or upgrading your computer would work, however, there are millions who would agree WoW's specs are not demanding.
Just becuase somebody would hope for something, it doesnt change the nature that this game is severely lacking, that Brad is lieing and that he doesnt deserve your cash.
Every MMO has bugs. But its not just the bugs that are rife in Vanguard, its the performance, lagg, server issues, patch issues, monotonous grind, broken crafting, exploits, content promised for release not existing and last but not least the major gaps in content.
Design a better game? interesting retort.

So, this is what a company get for being honest? At least there not liars like some games I know.
So far they have been upfront in everything . I cant believe after all Brad has said and if any of you just open your ears. All the complaints so far is simply people who refuse to read and look into the game.
Thats why people dont listen to your whine cause we all like to sit back eat popcorn and enjoy the entertainment of people who refuse to listen to what is said. I love the reading into it also. Hey ever heard of trying to have a positive out look.
You people should thank god the games arent closing themselves off so no one can copy anything. Is that what you want ?? Patents, copyrights, and trademarks ? so what if every game is like eq or like WOW its all about moving forward making games better enjoying them. Look how far everything has come since eq days its great enjoy and stop eating all the damn cheese and drinking so much wine.
