People people, don't worry, I have three words here that will be the most simple answer to find out why there is all this confusion and anger about Vanguard Saga of Heroes..... here it is...... SONY ONLINE ENTERTAINMENT....
Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.
*catches your 'poo' and throws it back at you!* Ewww! Do not throw your WOW game at me! I don't want your poo! Go play with your poo and let me be, shame on you! Actually I haven't yet bought Vanguard, but your OP has absolutely no redeeming value. it doesn't help and is nothing more then senseless whining and bickering. Thus, why I threw it right back at you in my initial response to your original post the way that I did.
- Also if you hate Vanguard so much, mind if I actually do take your "poo" that you threw at me and try it out? hehe. Maybe your "poo" will be a treasure to me, and I don't really wanna spend the $50 if I end up agreeing with you that Vanguard is poo! Who knows. lol.
- Zaxx
? Ok the OP may be overstating the problems but really how can you defend a game you have not seen much less played?
Also WTH, is Vangard this months EVE/WOW it's kind of hard to keep up with which games are being bashed without score cards.
And if anyone does not beleave that a game does not need cutting edge (anything) could you please explain the popularity of rune scape to me because my kids and nephues love it.
See what happens when you feed the trolls Zax, you get a 9 page flaming and you don't even play Vanguard lol. But seriously just ignore the jackasses, I play and enjoy the game. Vanguard runs great on my machine and looks great as well. Heres the thing about people like the OP, even if you wanted to convince them of something they don't wanna hear anything but the crap that they spew so profusely. For those that are considering the game get a 10 day key and give it a try and decide for yourself. I sometimes wonder why the trolls make it their personal mission in life to bring down a game they clearly don't play but to each his own, in the end these idiots with an agenda aren't going to sway the opinions of others and likely people will be more likely to try the game for themselves just to see if all the gloom and doom is true.
Life's to short and I'm to busy to argue with idiots and you probably are too. My suggestions when they throw the poo just dodge it and move on because if they don't have anyone to argue with the troll will simply grow bored and go back to whatever game they play or in the case of Vanguard haters make another thread to try to draw someone else into a pointless and baseless flamewar that goes nowhere so do as I do and move on you can thank me later.

In a gesture of guild will, I offer my buddy key to Trolltor99, err Zaxxtorr. This way he can play the game and acutaly post something original, instead of waiting in the bushes like some guerilla to pounce. If you want my buddy key it's yours.
Interesting that you start using the troll expression, more-so considering you stated before that you didn't understand what the expression meant. I guess you actually read my link?

Again, if you had read his posts, he - like me - are not defending VG, but simply asking for the reasons as to why he doesn't like it. And no, he hasn't stated anything tangible - except the same old stories. Zaxtor is actually looking to purchase the game, and would like to know why he shouldn't buy it.
Isn't runescape a F2P game? Doesn't the fact it's free, add into the equation at all?
zaxx you will make a fine vanbois if you get the game but it doesnt change the fact that for many people Van was a big dissapointment. "We are ridiculous for asking for more explanation of why someone says the game "sucks" and is "crap" other then those very general statements? Ummm, okay."Yes ridiculous. Ok? good. Ok. Nice flame and avoidance of the question.
" don't know how many years it has been in development, nor do I really care. If it takes them 1 year or 5 years to make the game. All I want is a new mmo game that is fun to play and has more challenge then the likes of WoW and so many others currently on the market." You say you like a challenge - so tell me what the challenge is in Vanguard? Not falling asleep between bugs? Really - is it so much to ask for details as you requested of the op... is it the thrill of collecting extra pieces to make something - with the chance of failure? Wow good shit. Is it the group grind after level 12 or so? Do tell... oh wait you haven't got the game yet.
Actually something worth reading - but again, the grouping requirement was documented before the games release - you expected a WOW clone?
Which is it? First you say that the so called "nice" graphics are just so-so, then in your very next sentence, you seem to go against yourself and admit that they are pretty. Ummm, okay. The scenery is ok as in so-so as in mediocre as in yeah nice you bump mapped everything and the trees and the grass are moving but YAwwwwwN. The sky is acutally the nicest part of the game... I was just admiring it as I did jumping jacks across the top of the water (this is the Vanguard animation for swimming in case you were wondering). The character models are terrible and wooden feeling while the textures on them are ok. Zaxx you do understand that the term graphics incorporates a lot of elements yes? Graphics or style?
Back to saying the graphics suck it looks like. Well I don't have the game yet, but I have seen tons of screenshots that say otherwise to me. The graphics and the characters models look great from my perspective. See the latter response. Hmmm, can you name one thing about World of Warcraft that was even close to being as original as the diplomacy in Vanguard? WOW didn't do anything outside the box what-so-ever and look where it's at! Where is Blizzards creativity if you think creativity is so damn important?? Warcraft has been around a long time and has created a lot of great original content in story and quests which it has incorporated into WOW. I was playing Orcs and Humans even before EQ1 - so you should research your facts before putting your head that far up your ass. I actually like diplomacy and it was one of the things that kept me from dumping the game outright after first logging in to the bugfest on release. I still think it is ok but if that is all the game has to offer in terms of original content ... bleh... there are a million card-based games out there way more fun than that, Great original content? " i need 10 wolf paws".... oh you mean story content, whats the basis on what it original or not here? Because any new story is original.
Again just like the OP... nothing more then very general opinions. Nothing of what you said makes myself as a person still trying to decide if I wanna buy this game come any closer to a decision. Zaxx you should buy the game! Then come back after playing for a while and tell us what you think - you can even post something like Vaguard is Awesome! and not give any details... chances are you will get a lot of positive repsonses and some dumb ones like your original ones here. Yeah except he won't - or do you prefer the "X sucks - the end" reviews? Are you that shallow and easily lead?

Yet the analogy still sticks in that Sigil promised a fully completed game for the market. They never fulfilled that promise. If they are unable to provide such a product then maybe they are unable to produce it? Then again I'm not looking at the game itself, I'm looking at its developers in this context. Whether it was a game Sigil was producing or a system critical software suite for a Fortune 500 corporation, the issue is still the same: the lack of focus on Sigil's part to complete the game. They've had nearly 5 years by all reckoning to do so, but they they didn't. So, tell me why I should play the game? Even just for a weekend over at a friends house? And please, no pleads to the fallacy of subjectivity. -- Bridget
I think the whole program shipping with bugs thing is Microsofts fault. They started it with windows and it just keeps popping up in every other software medium.

And please, no pleads to the fallacy of subjectivity. -- Bridget I completely agree - but again, why single out this game when looking at the MMORPG market in total. It's the same old story with each game released, and let's be honest, it's also in the single-player games market as well. It's a bad way of working, yet we as consumers continue to purchase. Spellborn will be released incomplete, WAR also and so will LotRO as well. Features promised before release will just not be present.
WoW did the same with the hero lvls / classes, or seige weapons and end game content.
And i do disagree that its as simple as completing a product, and if they didn't then its lack of focus. It still goes back to the same idea. They ran out of money, so do they quit the project or release? What i would like to see personally is a little more honesty from the producers of said game before release to actually state what state the gane is in, and what features are actually in the game on release - rather than this virtual celebration of "oooh... X game is going LIVE!".
As for your question. No one can tell you, you should play a game - they can only offer their opinions and reasoning as to why you should or shouldn't play. The only was you can decide for yourself is to play it yourself. If there's a trial then great, give it ago - if not then hopefully i friend is playing it, who would allow you to try it. If neither, then i agree it's hit and miss - which is why i firmly believe that any MMORPG should have a trial available at the beginning.
Originally posted by tevans No need for a different language or to be insulting. Why not just admit the OP has an opinion you disagree with? He's entitled to that opinion and doesn't have to offer anything to back it up. Let me turn the tables on you and the other Vanguard fanboys. Since you like Vanguard so much convince us why we should be playing it and not something else. You like Vanguard and that's your choice. The OP doesn't and that's his choice. He doesn't have to explain to you, me or anyone else. We didn't buy the game for him and we wouldn't be paying his sub if he chose to keep playing. If you tire of those stating they hate or dislike the game then my advise to you would be to skip over those discussions. By calling "troll" on a differing opinion you've managed to help keep this thread going for at least 10 pages. Why aren't you asking those who say the game is great for specifics? It's only those who dislike the game for whatever reason who seem to garner your attention. It's not only these forums. It's that way on every Vanguard forum or website out there. Anyone or any review critical of the game is labeled a "hater", an idiot or in some cases a liar. They are personally attacked for giving an opinion. If the OP had given reasons he would have been attacked for his reasons or told that he had a subpar pc. It's the same on every Vanguard website.
I don't agree or disagree quite yet with his opinion of Vanguard. I was looking for informative information to try and help me decide if I wanted to buy the game or not since it is $50. Furthermore, he has all the rights in the world to state his opinion of the game, and likewise, I have all the rights in the world to label him as a TROLL for doing so in the manner in which he did it. And I did that in the very FIRST response to his OP. Later, I and Baeff asked him numerous times to give some kind of reasons as to why he didn't like it to help him solidify his opinion of the game. He never did, and still hasn't.
I got a buddy key last night to try out the game, downloaded it while I slept, and have started playing it today a little at intervals during my work schedule. You ask the reverse for me to give reasons why I love it so much. I don't. Not yet anyhow. I know this thread is long, but I have stated atleast a dozen times that I have not played the game yet as of yesterday. When I get sufficient time in the game to actually give an honest and FAIR opinion, I will do just that. And when I do, I will either tell you I agree with the OP or I don't... and I will give detailed reasons as to why and how my experience with Vanguard went. People that read through all the crap on BS on these forums deserve honest and FAIR reviews of the game we talk about. That's how I feel anyhow. People who read such reviews may not agree, but atleast they are reading a FAIR review and not something as random as "X game sucks".
But thanks for your concern for the OP and his "Vanguard sucks" opinion. I'm sure that he appreciates you supporting his highly thought out review and opinions of this highly contested game.
Originally posted by earthhawk Vanguard sucks. There, I did it. Before you decide to flame me and tell me how stupid I am, wait a second. Take a step back and look at the game. Can you be honest to yourself and say that this game is worth $50 upfront, and another $16 a every month? Is it really better than any other game out there? I know some of you like it, and will continue to play no matter how unplayable or how much you have to upgrade your computer. That's like going out to eat, ordering a prime steak ,and getting fajita meat. Now, if you want steak you can pay to upgrade your meat and get the real thing. Of course the fajita meat is edible, but it's not steak. But you go ahead and eat it with a fake smile, and proceed tell everyone at the table how delicous your fajita-steak is. I tip my hat to those of you who are willing to endure the bugs, lag, poor graphics, etc of Vanguard. I don't know about you, but giving up 17k in MB for a crappy game is kinda crazy. Enjoy
You don't hate saying that Vanguard sucks. You love it. I agree with those who have labeled you as a troll. Are you happy with yourself for having a 12+ page thread now and still not even trying to back up your statements? Have you even played the game for 5 minutes or do you have an old beige computer or what? If your computer can't handle the game, then its all your fault for not reading the games hardware requirements before forking out the dough. Don't come on here blindly knocking a game just because you are a dope. If you truly played the game and really feel it sucks, then surely you can produce some sincere and honest reasons as to why you say such. And your computer specs that you claim the game not running worth a damn on is total bullcrap. I don't have nearly as good a computer and the game runs and plays very smooth and looks great. So either you are lying about your computer specs or you havent really played the game for whatever reason. Regardless, you are a big-time troll for being the originator of this chaotic and BS thread where you have frustrated good posters and readers like myself beyond belief. Sad.
Seriously, do they hand out blinders when you buy a copy of Vanguard or is it an eye-patch; cause alot of the vanboys completely bypass posts and start claiming things that were unclaimed in about 20 other posts.
Vanguard on lowest settings is a joke. Worse graphics then EQ; ontop of that it doesn't take into account the processor requirements. I mean you have low to high settings, but it doesn't matter what settings your on; it still takes the same processing power with all the draw calls and the customization features calculations not being reduced. A little settings slider doesn't make up for bloatware.

So sorry that your 6 year old computer or your year old $297 Walmart Emachines special doesn't play Vanguard! Waaa! Boo hoo!
This is a brand new game and the year is 2007. Upgrade your computer if you wanna keep pace with the new games coming out or play the old games, but stop blaming Sigil and game makers for your computers lack of power to play next gen graphical games.
My settings are on medium or 'balanced" and they blow WOW out of the water and are better then EQ2 on the highest settings.

No eye patch, cause unlike you im not running the game on a 486 -obviously i'm exaggerating, but my pc is a year old and im running the game on high quality, all options on, max draw distance.
& who here has said "VG has excellent graphics on lowest settings". Nobody.
=_= I just spent $500 on a base machine rescently that I am slowly updating. It can play it on highest settings with tweaking at 28 FPS. However, I am just pointing out where the resource hogs are. It uses alot of memory and alot of processing power, even on low settings. Infact there is barely any difference in the power required from low to high.
Assuming people will upgrade thier computer to play a game is just ignorant. Especially since at high settings you can still notice all the levels of bad that went into the graphics. Over bumping, stretching, seams. I mean if you cannot build your own PC you are looking at spending $800 on a PC to play this game acceptably. Not everyone makes 6 figure incomes or has parents that can spend $1000 a year on PC components. You should just grow up and learn a little something about life and budgeting. The Vanguard Devs simply didn't get that.

I would have bought your rediculous statement prior to playing LotRO, however LotRO produces just as good if not better graphics then Vanguard at max settings and runs fine on my computer even at high resolutions. Face the facts, Sigil are just poor game designers asthetically and internally. Your post is a joke, your defending a company who want nothing more than your money, so why bother tolerating with their imcompetence?
Currently Playing: Everything but MMORPGs Cancelled: L2, FFXI, VSoH, LotRO, WAR, WoW Looking Forward To: SW:TOR
You cant compare the completeness of software products to that of food. I have never seen a complete software release, imo they dont exist and ive been writing software for years.
However, everyone has their own expectation for the stability of a released system. If people dont like using a product which has a fair amount of bugs in it, dont buy it so close to the release date. Specifically relating to VG, there are alot of bugs in the game, but not a shocking amount. They will be fixed over time, like in every other MMO ever made,

Yet, in other posts people - like me - who encourage people who ask "should i buy VG?" state "why not try a free trials of EQ2 and WoW first - we are blinded by vanboy'ism? Not really making alot of sense there Cleffy. Likewise when i responded to your post which bullet pointed the different aspects of VG, i agreed to some points, disagreed on others and when you were kind, stated that the game was actually worse than what you said.
Again, not making much sense there Cleffy.
Yep, VG on the lowest settings is pretty bad, like most games really - but this is about bashing VG, so lets ignore that. And perhaps i'm alone here, but when i play i game, i'm not browsing the web, rendering 3D art and composing music at the same time - maybe it's me, but i play a game and i just play that game, so personally i couldn't care whether X game uses 100% processor power and all my RAM as long as i can play.
I thought this was restricted to just the graphics. If you want to go into the craptastic gameplay. I really don't find this game fun at the very early levels, let alone passed level 10. Infact it starts out with excitement after the character creation; then the fun factor exponentially goes down after you enter the world. Once you hit level 9 you are in the "I am in a 40 hour work week" fun sorta mentality; then at 10 you get a small ounce of more fun which quickly drops off before you hit level 11. Although Diplomacy is really fun. I think they shoulda just scraped the whole game and made something of a traveling across the whole world to do diplomacy since it is the only saving grace in this game.
Here is why the game is no fun. Spawn camping, corpse running, generic quests, slow combat, and generic gameplay. This is also linked with a small grind that not even Korean Games match. In about 3 hours it feel alot more like you are working as a data entry clerk then playing a game.
Edit-The other thing dragging this game down is the lack of community. The world is huge, but the player base on a server doesn't even peak 5k. One huge thing to make the base components of this game design successful is a large amount of people per server. Even Sigil acknowledged that in the PR campaign. However, thier design totally sucked when it came to this. The game itself should have been designed under much much lower system specs so it can support 30k people per server. Things like unwasted polies, good texture maps, and less useless customization options would have made it possible.
Well I tried it for almost a month, this morning was the last straw, lost experience, buggy quest for the nth time and game crapped. I usually try to keep an open mind, but this piece of horse dung is not fit for human consumption. Hope that is clear enough for you. Vanguard is still in alpha phase. If you enjoy paying to test a vendor's product that much have at it.
Can i ask a serious question here. It's not a hidden flame or a trick question, but which quests were bugged for you. You stated "nth" time so i assume that there were many in your playing time. I've only experienced one, which was an unattackable dwarf bandit at the end of a chain of quests - and i seriously wanted the armour quest reward.
Honestly, if you have the time, a short list of some of the bugged quests you encountered would be great - mainly so i can know in advance.
I agree with you on that baerf, there really aren't too many bugged quests in the game. There are a few bugged warps that send you out to the middle of nowhere even though you know it was suppose to send you to the port in the Half-elven lands. There are also alot of badly designed quests like ones telling you to go North West even though your suppose to go east, or having 3 monsters spawn for a quest you need to gather something from; then making the chance of the monster dropping it very low.
I thought this was restricted to just the graphics. If you want to go into the craptastic gameplay.
Not really, the entire thread has been about "VG sucks - the end" and me and others asking for more reasoning.
But then i thought that graphics really didn't matter as a poster before stated regarding Runescape - didnt see you questioning him.

Wrong really - it's when you ready lvl 15 does the leveling really hit a sore point. And for into i went from lvl 11 to lvl 14 in approx 6 hours of playing in a group last saturday - hardly the 40 hour per week.
Personally i think the diplomacy side is rubbish and a waste of time, but the grouping side of things, again was documented before the game was released, so [for me] it wasn't a surprise.

"Spawn camping, corpse running" . both documented before release "slow combat, and generic gameplay." - Not sure about the slow combat, i find it pretty engaging and frantic - OK, from level's 1 - 10 it's rather dull, but afterwards it picks up greatly. much more engaging than say WoW. "Generic gameplay" - Compared to which game?
I didn't mean that it took me 40 hours to get from 11 to 15, I said it feels like I was working a 40 hour a week job.
Also why does everyone assume that anyone who doesn't like thier game is a WoW player. Compared to Asian Games, and action games the combat is extreeemly boring. Its slow, and you rinse and repeat skills.
The gameplay is very generic compared to western games made since 2001. Same Style, same weapons, same animation cycles, same stories, same quests, same classes, same races, same achievements, same monsters, same design, same crafting, same combat, and even same initial level cap.

Don't mean to state that you're a WoW player - not in the slightest. It's just WoW is the most popular game by miles, and i'm pretty sure that most MMORPG players have at least experienced the game compared to EQ2 or L2 for example - hence me using it as a reference.
But i do agree on one point, and that's there has to be something new in the pipeline for MMORPG's when it comes to gameplay, combat and design - it's getting really, really old.

Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.
An so it begins

I read all of your links. In fact I have a 'link shrine' made just for you.

I'm honoured.
I think the whole program shipping with bugs thing is Microsofts fault. They started it with windows and it just keeps popping up in every other software medium.
Edited for spelling.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7

Currently Playing: Everything but MMORPGs
Cancelled: L2, FFXI, VSoH, LotRO, WAR, WoW
Looking Forward To: SW:TOR
However, everyone has their own expectation for the stability of a released system. If people dont like using a product which has a fair amount of bugs in it, dont buy it so close to the release date. Specifically relating to VG, there are alot of bugs in the game, but not a shocking amount. They will be fixed over time, like in every other MMO ever made,
Again, not making much sense there Cleffy.
But that's just my opinion.
Honestly, if you have the time, a short list of some of the bugged quests you encountered would be great - mainly so i can know in advance.
