    Sigh,

Obviously a great deal of the "SOE haters" are not here, who have lived with them since Sony was anything at all...

Let us do a real fast brief ..

    Everquest - Died

    Everquest II - Died

SWG - Died, raised again to be slaugtered before being born and died again...(this is personal on this game)

Vanguard - with Brad's help or should I say, Brad's normal fast exit left...will die in less then two years count on it

    ---

These are HUGE names in the MMO world, games that rose to extreme highs and then Sony got "greedy* and walla, the fingers dug in to the pockets of the customers and sucked them dry.

Anything SOE has a potential to take over the smaller company once money is involved and the greed of the young and less devoted are swayed by big SOE only to downsize and send the work off to a third world country.

I played SWG again this weekend after being gone for so long (was in the begining of Beta all the way through the first year), My GOD was a complete disaster. I traveled around all the planets with at MOST 4 FOUR!! 4 4 4 people there, usually only me ..was a crime to even walk around and see all the horrible things they did "after listening to customers"...

Don't bother beleiving me, Sony and SOE will ruin ANYTHING they can get their hands on...if it is on Gods and Heroes then I can only hope the people making the game were smart enough to never, EVER give SOE a way in...

Delvin (I want my name back you stole for an NPC in everquest2 dangit

For many people burned by SOE in the past, any association of a game with SOE in any way definitely nocks the level of anticipation and willingness to buy a game down a number of notches. It's an automatic handicap.

Sony, the parent corporation, really needs to do something about this, because it's so bad that it is starting to have negative bleed over into other Sony brand product categories for some people.

For SOE in particular, they really should consider rebranding, perhaps the entire division, but in the very least the sub-division that publishes games developed outside their own development house should be under a new, seperate brand.

Reserve the god awful SOE launch pad for in house games and switch MMOs merely published by Sony, but not developed or managed by them, to have their own unique launch applications. A title can really and truly be developed independantly, but once it is wrapped up in the stench of the SOE launch pad and SOE support forums and account creation, it becomes in the minds of many just another piece of SOE crud.

I recently started to see information and screenshots on Gods and Heroes that had me wondering if this muight possibly be the sleeper hit of the 2007 MMORPG launches. All that enthusiasm flew right out the window the second I saw there was any association with SOE. Whether these perceptions are fair or not are moot, many people have this viceral, negative reaction to the SOE name. It is a huge detriment for a game looking to attract a fan base.

SOE should have the sense to negate this effect by building a solid firewall between it's own products and those they mearly help publish. Of course, SOE being SOE, they probably lack the sense to do so. Developers looking to SOE as a publishing partner need to insist on such insulation, through marketing, branding and use of technical infrastructure, of their products from the negativity that surrounds the SOE name.

It doesn't matter how much technical expertise and experience SOE can bring to the table as a publisher, the SOE name is mudd to a large portion of the potential audience for a new MMORPG. This effect can only be ignored at great peril by a MMORPG developer looking for a publishing partner in the MMO marketplace.

SOE is a cash driven company and only cash

They have proven in the pass to not care if the mass of the gamers do not like something they going to add it if it makes them a penny more.

Before someone says all companies are cash driven (which is only true in the fact they need to make money) I will point out I have worked for companies that only charged reasonable prices and worked hard to make clients happy. I have also worked at money (profit) driven companies and the differents to the people who work there and thier cleints is huge.

SOE is one of companies I like other go out of our way not to give them another penny

What I think is even more proof of  how bad SOE is the fact this tread was even made to help slow down the "Haters" of SOE

Oh come on it's being a little over dramatic saying things like EQ1/2 are dead when clearly they are not, EQ1 now on expansion 13 EQ2 on expansion 3 with numerous adventure packs, things really arent all doom and gloom you know.

TBH I don't give a fig who is developing the game or who is putting up the money because all I want at the end of the day is a game to play, something that will entertain me for a few hours a night and from what I've seen of this game that pretty much fits the bill, if it doesnt then I'l give any number of other up comming releases a try.

It's sad when just having their name attached to a game harms its sales.

The fact of the matter is this thread does belong in this forum because SOE's making a profit from every box that gets sold of this game. So even people who'd like to play this game, if they're boycotting SOE (like me, and yes there is a growing number of us) would like to vent their frustrations that SOE has interfered yet again.

Make no mistake. It's not the end of the world for us. But we're here at this forum anyway so we might as well add our two angry cents to the situation. That's the motivation for a sizable portion of all rants in the first place.

I wish the makers of this game the best of luck.

But I don't buy anything sony or sony related.

    My choice.

its a pity that you let your gaming decisions be made for you by a large faceless corporation, even when the GAME has been completely insulated from them

Yeah, thats what they said about Vanguard. Sigil would never let SOE ruin thier game

    Think again.

Go take a look at the vanguard boards, now even the totaly loyal players are pissed.

If the people over at PE are as smart as they seem,  they would do better having some one else market this game.

The game looks awesome and I would like to buy it but if it has Sony's name on it I won't.

    Yep...

I don't wish them luck though because they constantly rip customers off with half-arsed games that lack quality.  EQ and EQII(now after ages) are the only two games that are worth a crap...

     SOE  DESTROYER OF MMOS!

  • MasterDelvinMasterDelvin Member Posts: 7

Actually, there is a price for sony to print the boxes and CDs...

Now the question, at what price ?  This won't be known until the game is released, but as most of us who have been with or around Sony since it came into the MMO world, it normally means Sony has "some" say in how the game will be introduced to the market. Sony logo, launchpad to bring people to "their" games and so on...

Again we wont know what PE did until the game is released, but I have learned never to believe anything that SOE or Sony say or claim. Never have they been true to their word.

As for the comment that EQ1 with 13 add-ons and EQ2 with how ever many now.....think about that statement a moment :) to make an add-on means to bring people back to the game... 13 times needed ?

    :)

Vanguard is a PRIME example of what alot of us have been saying...simply watch that game and their forums and see what we mean...

SOE and Sony have destroyed any chance of redeaming themselves within the MMO market and soon, Blizzard will be the new SOE (God I hope)

This is hilarious... I made the decision never to play another SOE game after SWG many years ago.

I'm surprised their still pissing off their customers without regard.

Let me guess... over promising, under delivering, persistent bugs, poor game performance/server stability, crap customer service, and a overall “unfinished” product.

SOE buys up promising mmos, and completely destroyes them. they simpy them, standanise them, remove their soul and repleace them with something they think will be good, no matter what the customers say, they never listen to the customers, and i accualy think they dont like them... SOE is the threat to the mmo industri..

They're the Fat Tony of the gaming world, and we're all the Homer Simpsons. I'm not too worried about it. Ya, they killed swg, I used to love it, it changed, I let it go. If P.E gets in financial trouble and has the need to be bailed out, then the problem is above SOE anyway. I have concerns to, but this game looks to be the only one that will be fun, and that all my friends will be able to run on their machines. So, I'll play it until it's un-playable.

Never give up and never surrender!

"SOE is co-publishing GnH through their Platform Publishing division. SOE mainly is a marketing and distribution partner that Perpetual is working with for GnH. Perpetual is still very much the creative power at work on GnH, and we can only benefit from the experience SOE has in MMOs."
    Stieg Hedlund   06-17-2006

so this isn't a SOE game, so there isnt the worry that SOE has made another crappy game

this isnt a SOE game, so they do not have the power to screw it up, if it fails it has nothing to do with SOE

this isnt a SOE game, so it will NOT feature on station pass, they will NOT host servers or have any responsibility for subscriptions or customer service

this is not a Sigil game, PE are not sigil, SOE didnt come in at the last minute to bail out a developer who failed to control budgets or deadlines who's publisher cut and run. blaming SOE for VSOH is as about as relevant as blaming SOE for the death of your dog

you cant boycott Sony, if u buy any CDs, DVDs, or any consumer electronics the chances are some of it has been made by Sony, or liscenced from, or patented by, or printed, or some part or intellectual property owned by Sony in one way or another, even if it does not mention the name Sony anywhere on the product - so it is time to grow up and move on

how many more times, the E in SoE does not stand for Entertainment, it stands for EnterPAINment...

If SoE is involved with GaH, then they are in FULL control.

That is how SoE works; they do not get involved with a project where they do not have full authority.

If you believe marketing statements and other fluff that says different, well, you will get what you deserve.

For me, is SoE is involved in any way with GaH, then that game is on my Do-Not-Buy list until it has been proven to be a fully released title, bug free, and content filled.

The taste of V:SoH ("SoE is only doing the Servers and the Billing") is very fresh indeed.

    SoE == Buyer Beware

you are quite clearly still crying about your jedi - get over it.

FYI - SOE saved VSOH by pumping in cash to give Sigil even more time to develop the game after MS dropped them for overrunning budgets and deadlines. only retarded idiots blame SOE for the problems VSOH has. Luckily SOE will NOT be running servers / billing / customer service on GnH, because their division of Platform Publishing are disk manufacturers / distributers.

    k thx bye

Hey remember, "You're in OUR world now. "

SOE does'nt give a damn about its customers, just thier cash. Persistant bugs, horrible to non-existant customer service, favored classes like the EQ Druid, 'fixes' that strip other classes of any sort of equallity to the Druid and GREED Extrodinaire. That's SOE in a nutshell. They are sort of MMORPG Marauders. They take a game and suck it and its customers dry, then drop it and move to the next victem. I hope Gods and Heroes is not one of these, it looks good, very good.

I have sworn to never again play ANY game that Sony/SOE has a hand in, but this game looks to damn good. I may give it a try, I may not, but I am tempted.......

You guys are talking shit now, but you will be playing the game, no matter what effect Sony has on GandH.  I mean you cant even stay out of the games forums, you clearly have hard-on for the game already.  Sony may have a lot of downfalls, but they also make MMO's that stand the test of time.  I have griped about Sony just like the rest of you, but the difference between us is that I will admit to taking a little punishment from SOE in return for a great gaming experience, and little better than o.k. game support.

Please SOE may I have another.  /moan
