there are many on this forum that think this forum should be for people who like the game and if people don't they should bugger off.
From my perspective, I have found that the exact opposite is true. I have found that people who hate the game often engage in tactics such as flaming to stifle thoughtful and considerate discussion in this forum. If you do not see the flaming, then you some how are unable to read the forum topic headings. And if you read a topic heading in which some one is "considering playing" the game, I want you to notice how people who provide insights about the game that currently play are flamed, their integrity attacked, and ridiculed.
I think this forum should be used and enjoyed by everyone; this includes people that enjoy the game, dislike the game, love the game, hate the game, and are considering the game.

I agree with your thoughts. I think we would be all served if people were to remember that the discussion is about the game. I think a lot of time conversations go in the toliet when folks begin insulting the character and intelligence of others.
The passion felt by current players, ex-players and potential players is a reflection of the care people put into their online persona's. I think to a certain degree the frustrations experienced by players is a combintation of immaturity, a lack of discernment and SOE/Sigil's mismanagement of said passion.
I myslef jus picked up the game about 2 weeks ago, i have a decent review a few posts down from this one which might give you some insight if you can't get ahold of a buddy key, or something to consider while searching for a buddy key. I also list out my system, so others can compare thier rigs to mine and the performance i have experienced.
I was not a " at release " purchaser, so i cannot tell you what the game was or wasn't at release, and i cannot truthfully tell you whats been fixed since launch ; However i can tell you the experience i've had 3 months after launch is nothing at all at what others say the game was like at launch... So i take that as a sign of improvement. /shrug
In short the game isn't as bad as alot of people are saying, but on the other hand i won't say the game is " omgoooses amazing " either. I have been enjoying myself though, and plan to continue playing.
Here is a tidbit to think about. I played Vanguard for about a month. Was a waste of 50 dollars. But last night I was playing my current mmo which is DAOC. Was watching alliance chat and lo and behold who joins our channel. A editor to one of the few vanguard community forums. He left vanguard after Sigil told him what he can or cannot say regarding the game. That usually is a warning sign to any mmo player.
I would recommend playing DAOC 100x over the current vanguard. When you have sigil telling owners of community sites what they can or cannot say , then something is wrong. While I do not flame anyone who enjoys vanguard. Each of us has our own tastes in mmos. I have no issue with flaming the game nor the company that made it.
In general the game just doesn't have any content that's going to excite you. The boss fights, when you can find them, are indistinguishable from the 10000 mobs you killed getting there. The diplomacy card games.. eventually play out virtually the same every time. The crafting system ( which is actually the thing this game does best ) is a mindless click-fest. There is no meaningful character customization in either appearance or ability. This gameplay would have been acceptable 10 years ago.. but certainly not today. I'd suggest you look elsewhere.. but whatever you do at least get a buddy key. Do NOT pay for this game.
This post is the reason why you need to try it for yourself with a buddy key. The boss fights are very fun. We completed a quest in RoTK, cleared a room and sat by an altar, wondering if we were done. Then, from the far side of the room, through the mist, the boss came walking down the middle of the room, spawning her defenders a long the way. We had a wicked, wicked fight that must have last at least 5 minutes.... and we won. That is indeed VERY distinguishable from other fights and also just one example. Someome in the group yelled, 'that's what this is all about!!!'
I'm a level 236 diplomat. The poster above has obviously never tried this sphere. I could do diplomacy full time. Check out www.vgtact.com to get an idea on what it's all about. Player controlled cities aren't in yet I don't think, but diplomacy is the precursor to that sphere. Also diplomacy isn't just a card game, it's interwoven with a lot of quests with twists, turns and unexpectated faction gains or hits if you aren't paying attention to the dialogue. For example, last night the gnomes where trying to get me to rally the cause to gain independence from the home city... only to find out I was being used to root out traitors. That quest line the became interwoven with the adventuring sphere. Spent 3 hours last night on that plot-line and it felt like 15 minutes.
Content really begins to expand around lvl 30. There is simply too much to do. I actually make lists of all the quests, missives, dungeons I want to try. Dammit, makes me want to take the day off and go home and start playing now.
OH MY GOD!! Something really walked across the room? Well certainly that makes for a memorable and completely unique encounter! I've done ROTK many, many times. It's almost amusing that the one example you could come up with is something so routine. A boss walking across the room.. wow. What's next? "That fight was EXTREME! Because the boss threatened me before attacking!"
And yes, I did try diplomacy... up to about 100 or so. It is nothing more than a simple card game, occasionally the quest stories that went along with it were interesting. But that was far from the norm and the dialogue you see has NOTHING to do with what is going on in your game. And it's telling that the only valid defense you could come up with was that there is plans for it to actually mean something in the future. Pathetic.
Sorry, I played the game to nearly 40. I know all about the lack of meaningful content, worthwhile boss encounters and interesting things to do. And I also know about the lies and spins vanbois attempt to make this game out to be something other than what it is. Again, Sigil simply did not keep up with the advances in gameplay that have happened in the last decade.. and it shows.
I appreciate the example above, and this is what I am talking about how they (Vanguard-haters) are, quoting above, "pathetic" and "played" the game. The point is that they insist on stifling any discussion on the current state of Vanguard; they "played" the game and believe that anyone who currently does is, quoting above, a "vanbois."
Very typical, destruction to MMORPG, and serves no purpose but to encourage more name-calling, vitriol, ridicule, and harassment.
And this, of course, is the typical response from mindless vanbois crew. They're so scared of anything that addresses the real state of the game they'll do whatever it takes to not have to see it.

i agree. this vanbois here (healzFU) even denies the truths the damn game ceo and designers say about their own game. all he talks about is how people that dont agree with him are haters/liars. funny stuff if you ask me. who is lying and who is telling the truth?

If you would focus on perhaps debating ideas instead of people, perhaps you would not be adding to the problem of stifling discussion here. Seriously I would love to read a post from you that didn't use the words "Sigil hater" "stifle discussion" or any of the other buzz words you toss out. You go on and on about writing some unbiased objective review of the game, but you can't even debate datapoints here without getting into a namecalling war with everyone who disagrees with your views. Really I want to read a review of the higher levels as I didn't get a chance to see them myself. So what is it gonna be? Name calling to people who don't share your opinion or some discussion about the actual game?
It's possible he's just a troll with a slightly different angle now.
Though, given the persecution complex, and paranoia, he displays, both now, and previously when he was against VG, I can't help but wonder if he isn't, in fact, suffering from some form of mental health issue.

Case in point. You don't even know which RoTK quest event I am talking about do you? Also, it sounds like when the grinding route instead of the quest route with diplomacy.... which is your choice. I can't standing grinding on either adventuring or diplomacy and maybe I get a lot more out of the game because of that. My level is secondary.
Everytime someone posts an objection to the game you tend to attack the shortcommings of the person who posted instead of debating your counterpoints to their VIEWS!
Come on, man. Do I really have to explain this for you? I mean, really?
Van bois - Pathetic - Lies - Spin
The above is what I am talking about: the name-calling, accusations, and general destructiveness to MMORPG in the Vanguard forums that exists today.
We both know (in your case, I hope) that I am referring to what I quoted; how the person who provided current insights into the game was called "pathetic" and "van bois" and so-forth. It was yet another example of how the person who"played" (not currently) the game and hates the game directs that hatred toward members of this community who (currently) play the game.
Daffiod (sp), I have noticed that you are replying to each of my posts. When a person tries to discuss the current state of the game, they are labeled, ridiculed, and their integrity is attacked. The MMORPG community cannot rely on the Vanguard forums (look at the topics and comments) because of the degree of flaming, dishonesty, mudslinging, name-calling, and trolling.
It is precisely this that is my point. Your opinion is based on BETA and release, and it would be valid if some one were considering buying the game at BETA or at release.
I like how you completely ignore the guy who actually resubscribed based on your newfound love of the game. According to him nothing has changed. He posted screenshots to back up his statements. Empty servers, poor framerates, etc.
What have you brought to the table other than blocking people who don't agree with you 100%?

Do you really think this person resubscribed and then provided a objective review and update based on their experience at launch compared to their experience now? Come on.

Want me to stand somewhere in particular doing a /handstand to prove it?
Come on, tell me. I'll go anywhere. Want me to create a special character, give me the race and class, it will take me 5 minutes to have a screenshot posted here.
Surely you want to show everyone I'm a liar. Go ahead.
Anyway Healz4U is playing the knight in shiny armor, but he can't face his opponents. Whenever someone goes against his ideas, he ignores them. This knight in tinfoil armor doesn't fight, he cowers in fear to be proved wrong.
Yes you are right, there is a lot of personal attacks and calls to peoples integrity. The point you are missing is that while you are decrying people doing it, you are engaging in the same exact thing you are crying foul. You are engaging in the same exact thing that you are claiming ruins the integrity of discussion here. Yes I reply to you, because you are everywhere with the same basic message of calling people haters and blaming them for ruining the forums. I would rather hear what you like about the game since your return and some specifics as you seem to enjoy your return instead of cat fights about people.
If you want to be honest then lets do so. I know a Sigil developer from my time in EQ1 and while I don't keep in touch with him I do get to see my old guild forum where he posts from time to time. There are problems with certain Nvidia cards (8800 for example) and Vista does give noticably worse performance than XP. Vanguard has troubles that forums, websites and magazines all agree on. Even Brad McQuad has posted on the problems fully admitting to the games troubles. If you want to educate people on what the game is like NOW, then by all means do so. realize though that everytime you call someone a hater or something similar you weaken your stance, invite others to retaliate and call your objectivity into question. Seriously lets hear about the game instead of other people for a while.
That is a link to my review of Vanguard a couple weeks ago. I was attacked and people called me SOE fanboi and the such. I stuck with debating points about the game instead of calling people haters and trying to revoke their rights to have an opinion that differs from mine by saying they haven't played recently or some other obscure reasonings.

I have no compelling reason to doubt him. Do you?
As I said, smg77, I think the level and severity of personal attacks in the Vanguard forum are disgraceful. I began to talk about how the game had changed when I resubscribed (on a whim). However, any mention of how the game had (positively) changed --and it has changed in some profound ways in terms of bug fixes, performance improvement, and content added-- resulted in the Vanguard-hater group to personally attack me. I came to the realization that these people (look at the topics in this Vanguard section and the responses to those topics) are not interested in any serious or real discussion but to attack members of this community that currently play Vanguard and talk about the game. I think it is very important for an objective, unbiased, and truthful report on Vanguard's demerits and merits in its present state. If some one were totally ignorant of Vanguard, let's suppose, and they visited MMORPG's Vanguard section, the person's impression of the game would be far removed from reality.
The Vanguard-haters simply bully and verbally push people around here. I push back.
However, I have no problem whatsoever in blocking individuals whom are obvious flamers/trolls/haters.
Comments
there are many on this forum that think this forum should be for people who like the game and if people don't they should bugger off.
To those that want to see only biased 'we all love Vanguard' threads they should visit the offical Sigil forums.....oh wait.......
From my perspective, I have found that the exact opposite is true.
Come on, man. Do I really have to explain this for you? I mean, really?

Come on.

I have no compelling reason to doubt him. Do you?

Want me to stand somewhere in particular doing a /handstand to prove it?
Come on, tell me. I'll go anywhere. Want me to create a special character, give me the race and class, it will take me 5 minutes to have a screenshot posted here.
Surely you want to show everyone I'm a liar. Go ahead.
Anyway Healz4U is playing the knight in shiny armor, but he can't face his opponents. Whenever someone goes against his ideas, he ignores them. This knight in tinfoil armor doesn't fight, he cowers in fear to be proved wrong.
