Always these christian with their rubbish anwsers.... 5 years and 230 days until the end of the world? The Maya believed that their world would end on Dec 21, 2012. Of all the dates put forth by prophets and cultures for a doomsday, this is one with an authentic almost eerie feel to it.
Thing is, the "The world is going to end" is an assumption. the calender of the mayans just stopped. thats all.

How hard is it to beleive this? It is most likely that the world will end due to our or natures fault/failure. I really don't understand why people find this nonsense meanwhile they beleive in world's biggest fairy tale. This so called ''GOD'' sheez... Try to understand logica, PLEASE!
What gives somebody be it nature or humans the right to destroy the earth on wich we live. not even a god can have that power. If there exists a god with that power than I will personally defy him and challenge. NO god can destroy the world while I'm alive.

Oh, I meant to tell you guys last time we had a December 12, 2012 topic. The world's all set to end 5/24/07; wish I would've remembered to tell you earlier, but oh well. It's actually going to be a pretty big dissapointment

It is also believed that because the center plane of the Milky Way is denser there is a bigger chance that gravitational fields will change and might toss about huge astroides and comets toward earth from the Kuiper Belt. Good chance for a collision with a heavenly body then.

Their calendar consist of a short count and long count and it is on Dec 21, 2012 that the Mayan Calendar "resets" in the "long" count - when their calendar starts count down days - resets to Zero Date of 0.0.0.0.0.- thus the end of time.
If you ask me, the problem with december 21 2012 is that its commercial nonsense. the evidence that the world will end on 2012 is shallow, VERY shallow. in fact, most sciencetists will tell you not to worry. There will, however, be tons and tons of writers that are more then happy to sell you books about that so called dooms day and the mayan calender, just like there will be a couple of movies all around the subject. While they will make tons of money from suckers who buy into it, they will also spread fear. I can't imagine how someone who actually believes this nonsense, spent all of his moneys the last couple of years only to find out it didn't happen feels, just like all other doomsday predictions.
