I have no doubt that FLS will make out in the end, I know the game will be a solid and stable game at launch. This will help PotBS grow, but as long as SOE is there I can't be a part of that growth. If FLS becomes strong enough to stand on its own two feet without SOE's help I will be the 1st person in line to start playing.
I don't want to boycot FLS, but if I give FLS my money a portion of it will end up with SOE and thats just as good as me giving them money. I'm not trying to bring down SOE either, they will always be there, I'm just not going to be a part of their success anymore.

I never said SOE "stole my money" (though they did try to nickle-and-dime me in EQ2) and I never played AC2. Never played DAoC. Never played AO. Never played EVE. Never played Earth and Beyond. Never played Vanguard. If I had I might have issues with those companies as well. I don't, but I won't begrudge someone who has and has a negative opinion of them. And my issues with SOE don't just stem from SWG. I'd already quit SWG before the CU. A lot of my problem with SOE comes from the first four months of EQ2. Hell I don't even think less of them for buying Vanguard, though I pray the same doesn't happen to PotBS.

Haha, being 34 and in the US Army, I don't think I qualify for cute and you have to wonder, for someone who doesn't play any SOE games anymore and can't wait for Warhammer Online, why would bother to defend them. I played SWG from launch and EQ2 as well and sure, there were some pretty bad experiences, mainly in SWG, but EQ2 is not the same anymore. It is quite a bit better since I was given the chance to come back and check it out for free.
I am playing Anarchy Online though at the moment, because I'm trying to steer away from playing any high fantasy games so I won't be burnt out for WAR. I guess people will always hate SOE, but saying it's not fair for me to begrudge you is calling the kettle black, since you are begruding SOE on an even higher level.
I've heard EQ2 is completely, 100% different than it was in the brief time I played after launch. But for me that was SOE's second chance and the blew it miserably when they started in with the upselling on character slots, upselling on content - blech. I'm glad it's different and that there are people enjoying it, but I'll never go back and try it.
And I am not saying it's not fair for you to begrudge me. Example: I like Cryptic as a developer. They have fantastic communication with their customers and I've had nothing but good experiences with them. If someone else has had a different experience, I'm not going to rush out and label them a 'hater 'or something. I'm going to assume that based on their own experiences there is probably a very good and valid reason for them feeling the way they do. And the same goes with folks who don't like SOE. I mean SOE released an expansion that had content they knew would be taken out of the game in days. Sure they gave refunds... but still they released it knowing that. And that's damn slimey.
I don't want SOE to die out or anything. I do think their negative image will continue as long as Smedley is in charge there and that nothing will change for the better with SOE while he's there. I would like them to lose the SWG license so that something better might come along from someone else and take its place.
There is a reason that John Smedley, President of SOE, posted several times on the pre-release Vanguard forums that SOE would have no part in the development of Vanguard. It wasn't because they expected Vanguard to fail like it did, and it wasn't because they wanted people to be scared away by SOE not being involved. It was because SOE has a very well deserved reputation of making very poor decisions where their customers are concerned. The guy in charge of the company realizes this, and will likely soon be making the same statements about PotBS as he did about Vanguard. The folks at Flying Lab Software aren't unaware of this. They actually spent most of the 'Developer's Log' trying to explain why it isn't as bad as you might think. It doesn't seem that the fact that they have to try and convince people that signing a contract with SOE is not such a bad thing, might be a bad thing in and of itself. The President of SOE has a similar blind spot, even when he is touting his comapny's non-involvement as a selling point.
Anyway, I truly hope PotBS is realesed in a complets, polished, and functional form. I also hoe the game is fun and exciting. But most of all, I hope the game fails miserably. It is a shame, as I was looking forward to it. What happened to some amount of confidence in the potbs team? If they say SOE was the best there was for them i believe it. They would never sign with them if they thought SOE would buy them out.
