A few little notes on this particular topic that I've been dying to share with you-

I for one am a Pre-CU refugee and have still gone back to the game. Ok it's not what we have known, but still, it's a heck of a good game. Open your mind... I'm not saying to stop griefing the lost of your glorified world, but atleast try it again. You might just be in for a pleasent surprise, I was the first one under shock that the game still appealed to me. The game is doing much better than you think.
I agree I am enjoying myself alot. The only thing that bothers me is the lack of people to group with my level. I guess maybe Im just not in the know about the current hub spots lol... Im level 34 and still puttering through the legacy quests on Naboo. The only other thing that I miss from other MMOs is chat. I miss the general /ooc and such from other games. I see all these chat rooms available to join but they are empty. I wish SWG had a chat system more like EQ2 or WoW then Id been perfectly satisfied with the stat the game is in.

If you've joined a faction, try the Rebel or Imperial chat channel. That's about the closest there is. But it is only available to you if you are of that faction.
I'm a returning vet from the pre-NGE days. I was very upset, but after playing all the other crap out there, and realizing that none of it is half as immersive as SWG was... I'm giving NGE a try.
With an open mind.
We will see how I do. Now if only I could get this download to go faster
I returned on trial and the game is fun again. I reactivated both my accounts already. The current game is the closest it's ever been to the original and it feels right again... What else can I say?
My CU plaque is in my bunker proudly hanging on the wall ROFL. I just hope Sony comes to their senses and stops rewriting the whole combat system every other year. It just pisses people off. Leave well enough alone and stop trying to beat WoW. It can't be done.

The problem is, they are most likely to change the game AGAIN because its all a numbers game to them.
A) By vets returning and there being "Just enough" people playing to keep the game alive, they know now that they can get away with
drastic changes in the games dynamics and not have to worry because people keep comming back to support them.
No matter what, they want more people playing. If it gets into their heads that scrapping the game's current build will give them
greater numbers, they're not going to ask you permession, they are going to up and alter its entire structure.
In the end it's no longer about weither or not the game is playable. It's about how we as a community really want to advicate their actions. IMO, they could have come up with a great system, but the fact that they alienated an entire playber base to do it, by drasticly altering (without so much as a slight warning a few weeks before) a product which people have invested time and money into, does not reflect a service I'm willing to pay a single cent for.
Top Ten Most Misused Words/Phrases in MMO Industry...
You are right about how we as a community should act upon it, but it is in no way we should do so with a negative way cause honostly thats not a gamers way but more of someone upset with other things in life, one that can't seem to get it in ones mind its only a game, one that is unable to take responsibility for his or her own actions and continues to seek guild in other things then one self. Meaning when we (myself included ) where upset with pre-cu lets be honost for once as we can not continue to blame SOE for what they done, we have to blame ourself for putting in sooooooo much time that we totaly lost sight of true importent things in life, we where all cought up into this SWG frency and when its changed we thought our lifes fell apart, basicly cause most of us pre-cu VETS had spent far and far to much time IN A GAME yes i really felt i was investing in SWG, thankfully i changed and can see games like games and if a company behind it fucks up then well its still a game nothing to worry about aslong games will be produced to make money they will seek way's to alter games so the eventualy might I SAY MIGHT!! appeal a broader group of gamers, cause there is nothing wrong by trying to get mmorpgames out of this nichy segment we're still in. Shame many rather have these games very nichy then let it open to more gamers around the world. Also shame that i see many so-called VETS only care about their "ME "game instead of the community game SWG and more mmorpg can be. I mean look at the disgrunted side, you continieus read I WANT, I WANT, I WANT, sorry to bust the bubble of these so-called VETS but its not I WANT its WE WANT and if you so-called VETS continue to I WANT then please pretty please play single player games and enjoy them as YOU WANT!The problem is, they are most likely to change the game AGAIN because its all a numbers game to them.

So in the end we as gamers or better yet passionat mmorpg players should indeed let our voice be heard in a positive way as negative only keeps people away from this genre, its just amazing how many people actualy staid away from SWG because of these misguided blinded disgrunter so called VETS and now some of them who listended to them seem to be enjoying SWG allot. And thats how mmorpg should be played , you have fun with them if not one move on to another game, continue to holdon to the past will never set a foot forward but always makes a person step back, and steppen back never got anyone anywhere.
So its good to hear from a CM about how SWG is doing , while i must say i noticed this already more ingame then before i read htis, like i said before we see many returning and also many newbs stepping in.
Ive returned to the game after several years. Might as well call myself a newbie because I feel like it. Maybe alot of people are returning but it seems like they must be all high end because I cant find groups no matter how much a try. I have LFG up all the time and everytime i do a search I appear to be the only one with it on. I see ALOT of cl90 people heading to and fro, but none around my level. Im currently playing my mid 30's jedi on Kettemoor and on advice from come people I started a new character on Bloodfin.
They need to merge servers or allow you to have more than 2 characters per server so that maybe some of these cl90 would reroll and make groupmates for us just coming up.

Ok listen. I haven't played any mmorpg's in over a year now besides a LoTR trial, school and work just take up too much time. And you know what? I'm still angry about what SOE did to SWG. When enough players are complaining about their "ME" problems, it becomes a "WE" problem . The reason for that is is that we are all complaining about the SAME THING. As a paying customer, I feel like SOE had an obligation to at least ask the community how they would feel about such a change. This would be equivalent to you paying for your cable tv bill every month and then your cable company decides to remove all of their stations in favor of all educational stations. Yes I'm sure the educational stations are "better" for us, but they will in no way ever have the same content. It is your type of attitude, Reklaw, that makes it ok for SOE to do those kinds of things to games and get away with it. And by going back to SWG in any other form other than the original, I feel like it is giving credence to what SOE did. Don't get me wrong, from what I've read I think SOE is doing a good job with Vanguard and other things now. They just need to know that that is not something that WE, as a playerbase, will accept. Before I ever even think about going back to SWG, I would need to see an official apology from SOE. All I want them to do is admit that they were wrong and alienated a lot of their players. I realize, as a company, that you are supposed to try and get as much money as possible, but at least pretend like you care about your customers.
It's funny how every so often a post like this comes from SOE and it tells everyone how good the NGE is doing, that an expansion is due out in 6 months (Smedley himself said that over a year and a half ago) and so on...
BUT, they won't give you subscription numbers... They just ask you to take THEIR word for it. The same SOE that spent 3 years telling its customers lie after lie...
LMAO, if anyone believes a second of this CM's post then they are a glutton and deserve to hand over their time AND money to SOE.
If SOE wants to PROVE something to people smart enough to know better, SHOW US THE NUMBERS. Other MMOs gladly show their subscription numbers, even if they aren't WoW-like. SOE used to show their numbers for this very game. All that changed as soon as the NGE hit... Hmmmm, wonder why?
Sorry Community Manager, without sub numbers your post is a joke.
Yup.
If they're proud of their sub numbers, why not publish them? With rumors of 50K subs abound, and a peak number of 300K published by SOE during SWG's first year, wouldn't 100K - 150K subs make the current game look healthy? It would at least confirm that the bleeding has stopped.
Sorry, but those of you who believe this are probably the same ones who truly believe the numbers that determined server load idescriptions (light, heavy, etc) were never changed, despite going from "light" to "heavy" overnight during a time when SOE reps admitted they were losing subs.
In other words, those of you with a dog in the race are going to believe what you want to believe.
I returned on trial and the game is fun again. I reactivated both my accounts already. The current game is the closest it's ever been to the original and it feels right again... What else can I say?

If WoW is McDonald's, SWG is the dumpster out back. The developers were told to put back in things from pre-NGE to attract back former players, but they have tweaked it all to be more like similar things in WoW. The developers are still scrounging around WoW's dumpster to come up with development ideas (which has been going on since the CU).
SOE's Ministry of Misinformation can make all the claims they want, but they can't his the lack of players on almost every server. The biggest complement, from even the biggest fanboi, about SWG is that it is currently better than it was on November 15, 2005. That is just sad.
Looking good guys, keep it up!
geez dude it's just a game not life or death.
btw people investing any time or effort in hating sony is a little scarier than those playing their games. while we are enjoying ourselves "normally" you haters are reveling in self made misery. this is why no one ever actually pays any attention to the negative advice you all spew. also why we have fun taking stabs at you like monkeys in a zoo. you all have comparable mentalities.
wait scratch that.....the monkeys might be smarter.
A few little notes on this particular topic that I've been dying to share with you-
SWG is in dire need of either a complete rollback or a 3rd revamp. I highly doubt anything they add or promise will eliminate the actually problems. If they really wanted the veterans back they would quit adding subpar versions of the old game and just remove the NGE. Either way neither will happen so enjoy whatcha got. SWG is the only game still in beta after 4 years and people paying for it too boot. Revamp or rollback either way the game is on life support at best.
SWG is doing better because they were able to get rid of Jules Torres
this is current if you wanna whine like a baby go to the refuge please that forum was created for all the vets that just wanna complain so use it. as far as the topic goes sounds good just waiting on the install to finish so i can log in
It doesn't matter if the game is getting better and gaining a larger subscriber base compared to what it had at the beginning of the NGe and here is why:
1. Jedi, the class I want to play is still incomplete and has no class specific content.
a. Jedi needs the ability to choose Light/Dark Side or Neutral with appropriate content created for them to level off of and appropriate end game content for them (ie. FRS, Dark vrs Light, and etc). Having to choose Imperial or Rebel does not cut it, neither does their GCW system, nor does the talent trees they designed where you can mix light and dark abilities. Sorry, but I am a lore junky.
b. Jedi need innate armor or more the ability to craft Jedi armor. Being restricted to Cloaks + modded clothing is stupid, because then everyone looks the same running around with a cloak on.
c. Lightsabers don't need special lightsaber crystals, because the everyone goes after the special crystal in order to compete. Competition is important in this game since it is geared towards PvP. If it was geared towards Pve players, my opinion would change. You should be able to choose a hilt and crystal by personal choice and not be gimped.
d. Jedi needs a wider range of force power, offensive and defensive lightsaber techniques. Not the narrow scope of the current expertise choices. What Jedi had Pre-NGE would suffice.
So yes, the game is still rather incomplete for some of us. Sure, the game might be fun for those that like to play Commando's or other ranged professions, but for those that want to play a Jedi, they are screwed at the present.

Well what "I want" and "We want" are the same thing considering Jedi. Look at the Jedi Forums and you will see that I am right. Now if Jedi is the only class I am interested in playing and they aren't the way I like to play it, should I pay $15/mo to play? No, I shouldn't. I should leave the game I am not having fun in and play another that I am having fun in. When they complete that portion of the game, I will be back.
I was never one of those disgruntled Vets by the way. I was one of those that felt it is SOE's game and they are entitlted to change the game as they please. I don't complain, I just either adapt to the new game or quit if I don't like it. There are always other games out there, so I won't play a game that I don't like.

Until something better comes out, what the hell do you want ROFL? This game is fun again. I'll play it til they wreck it again then play something else for a while.
I never really lost my "investment". I withdrew support for the game when they screwed up. They fixed it and made the game fun again so I am back. For 2 years they didn't get any of my money. I was exploring what the other game companies had to offer. There isn't much out there worth playing IMHO.
If you know of a decent game, please tell me and I'll go play it.95% of them suck. I'm hoping AoC is better, praying that it is. WoW is not my cup of tea and outside of this game that's pretty much all there is.
I've purchased and given an honest shake to:
----
Eve: boring, end game is an isk grind so you can have pvp ships to defend your alliance's space. I'd rather pull my toenails off.
DDO: Decent but got permabanned without warning because a GM accused me of item selling.
LOTRO: another Turbin game, see ddo
GW: community sucks ass
WoW: not my cup of tea
DaoC: I can't believe people pay for this game
Ryzom: Weak
Anarchy Online: Weak
Everquest II: sucks
Vanguard: I might play it if other people did. Didn't do anything for me. The graphics are way shitty even on an 8800 with a dualcore 2gb system
----
Am I missing any games you'd recommend here?

I can't blame you dude for seeing it like that, I mean you'r still in school, i know many people arn't real gamers they just need something to vent or complain about , and good you found me to be a source to complain about.
Now when you done with school and maybe found yourself a real job you might also begin to play games for what they are GAMES!
And maybe try and educate yourself with what SOE has already admitted so you don't have to ask for it as they already have done so. But i geusse some people are still not able to read but only seem to be able to complain about the past. Like i said many times stop living in the past and life today! And before some ignorant reply again comes of this let me be clear living TODAY does not have to mean you NEED to like a game today, everyone still free as a bird to like or not like games. But it would be very cool if people indeed just saw it as a game and not something that is really importent. Almost i thought you where a okay dude as you said you still at school and probebly have a afterschool job, but even then it seems some people are not able to really read.....unfortunaly
right so if its so healthy why wont they release the Subscriber numbers?
