Northrend the last continent there is exactly. And i thought it was just a barren icy arctic place where the undead had a fortress. So what they will add more levels and reputation to grind and a new big instance.....all been seen before. Too bad people will just keep playing the same old thing. EDIt - maybe they will add skiing ability or mounts as the main selling feature...
What more do you want? Every mmo has practically the same thing but implemented differently. People just flock over to it because it's the "new" thing. WoW wasn't anything new, yet it still dominated the other MMO's because it was the "new" thing, and it's created by Blizzard ( And we all know Blizzard makes great games.. their RTS and Diablo are priceless )
I really can't see what else an MMO can have.. if there are no rep grinds or quests ( Which every MMO has in some sh ape or form ), then you have lvl grinding ( which we americans hate ).
And if you say sandbox, then that's up to the game companies. We don't know what goes on behind the scenes.. my guess is it's hard to make a sandbox MMO, or maybe there are technological cockblocks /shrug
ok? so? doesnt mean anything. once warhamer and conan come out it will start loosin subscribers. then when guildwars2 comes out it will loose even more since it has no monthly fee and basically the same thing only better.
in the end what does this all mean? nothing. who cares? the one thing that WILL kill wow is TIME. it is inevitable. maybe soon maybe in 3 years who knows. get over it and enjoy it while you can.
World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees’ territories are defined along the same rules.
ALL of the 9 million are active subscribers.

It means that WoW is still going strong. I'm sure Blizzard has something planned for the future MMO's that are going to be released later this year/early next year.
Also, I highly doubt many WoW players will switch to AoC. Why? Because that game will have system requirements higher than the average WoW player. Part of the reason for WoW's success is because even the crappiest computer can run it.
What i want is a mmo world where things are actually meaningful to do...grinding rep and dungeons i can do in singleplayer games. Pvp in wow is so lame, its pointless. Any pvp "feature" listed on wow is not pvp at all, just pve grinding against players, they may as well be npc's too since u cant even communicate with them, there is no diplomacy or pvp clans that mean anything (dont give me list of clans that u think are pvp clans in wow....because i will jsut laugh). If blizzard put a bunch of named npcs that looked like players in a bg instance u wouldnt even know the difference.
Dont get me wrong i loved wow, i played european open beta and played since 8am day of release in europe, up until like 8 months ago. Instanced pvp grind is just wrong.
Interesting but not altogether surprising. Although it’s been stagnant in the US and China WoW has still been growing in Europe. Note how long it took to go from 8.5 million to 9.0 million, even though TBC sales were still doing well when 8.5 million was announced.
My expectation is that WoW will continue to do well in Europe where there hasn’t really been a big MMO hit before, but China and the US will stagnate as veteran players look for other games and WoW only players pop in and out waiting for the next big PC game hit.

An active account is an account that has been paid for. Unless you want to claim that there are tons of players who pay a subscribtion fee without actually playing, the number is very accurate
So, based on the amount of people paying for a game determines the quality of that game? Don’t get me wrong, I have played WoW and I’m sure I will again. The game has some great points but it isn’t all that fun.
When I play a MMO I want others to play with and WoW does have a large player base, now that doesn’t mean it has a lot of good players to play with. PUG is a saying that has a sour taste for me, and I have WoW to thank for that. True in other game it can take a while to find a Pick up Group and they don’t always turn out well but I will not enter a PUG in WoW.
When it comes down to it I would rather play a game will a low but competent gamers base then 9 million people playing only because it’s the game to play. Again, don’t get me wrong. I have met many friends in WoW and I do miss them BUT, just because your friend jumped off a roof doesn’t mean you should.
Also, with the BOOM in gold sellers it makes me wonder how many of these accounts are legit.

Actually, to find the most precise opinion we have to take what the majority says, and WoW is biggest. D-e-m-o-c-r-a-c-y you see. Your opinion doesn't do much to determine quality of a game to be honest.
In the same way the McDonalds are apparently the best fastfood chain (While not healthy, people don't always go for healthy) And just as Windows is the best operating system for gamers.
Simple, obvious and yet so hard to bash into some skulls.
Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW... It all sucked.

What does it MEAN? It means that more and more people than ever before are coming into the MMORPG genre. You can bet that those new numbers are not from old MMORPG players and that means people that have NEVER played a MMORPG are trying them out now for the first time and playing them.
It means MMORPGs have finally evolved and entered the real gaming market along with FPS, RTS and every other type of computer game out there. It means that there was ALWAYS a market for MMORPGs but hardcore, tedious game mechanics from previous games stifled the genre for more than a decade.
And that means that with a bigger market we'll see competition (evenutally, right now WoW has the monopoly) and with competition will come more games. People are complaining about being bored with WoW but they don't realize that as long as Blizzard expands the market then that opens up the doors for other games to develop.
Blizzard is doing the MMORPG genre more good than anything in its entire history. That's what is means.

This isn't art or music or theater. WoW is a pop-culture video game and you don't measure a video game by its "quality" like its some piece of art. You measure a video game by it's popularity.
You could say Tetris was low-quality compared to the technology or graphics of the other games of its time. That doesn't mean Tetris wasn't one of the greatest video games ever created because it was one of the most POPULAR.
Many people are complaining about WoW because there is no competition for Blizzard. There are other companies developing games to tap into that 9 million subscriber market and maybe even expand it further. And once Blizzard starts to get competition for its cash cow, they'll have to improve game for the better.
WOW will go on and do good for quite a few years to come. There will be games that will take away people and success of those games hinges on beating "instant gratification" wow offers now.
WAR comes to mind with public quests. Those seem to be aimed at even faster instant gratification, which in turn will grab a lot of people and possibly keep them there. WoW gives average player and those not so average to play for a bit and get a 'reward' for it. I am personally getting bored of WoW because of maturity level of most of the players involved, among other things.
Give me Mech Warrior MMO or Fallout MMO and we'll talk.
Impressive, and still not with TBC in China. Not sure how Chinese players react to expansions, but in Europe and the US they're regarded as subscription boosters. As was said, Chinese players don't bring in a lot of revenue though.
Anyway, for all the doom-sayers, nay-sayers and "I have a good source..." people: 9 millions. Accept it. Period. /shoo
(Still hoping AoC, WAR and others picks up big numbers though, that Vanguard recovers well and grows, and that LotRO keeps going strong. And I really couldn't care too much about Chinese numbers. I want the local US and European ones, please.)
Surprising news...I would've thought WoW would be losing subscribers at this point. But if they're still gaining steam, I'd say the WoW train isn't going to stop any time soon.
I imagine some people will find a way to downplay this news, or say that WoW is 'eventually' going to crash, but those are probably the same people who think the ps3 will miraculously rise out of it's slump 'someday'.
Many say WoW has too many idiots to play with. Well.. if you got good friends playing with you, then you don't have to worry about idiots. Choose a guild that is good and friendly and stick with it. If you know how to be a good leader type person, taking PUG run with 4 rats is not a biggie, it's easy to manipulate idiots
WoW has still lot to offer and it will last long. Good experience in WoW is all about finding/having good friends in game. I still chat daily basis with many people from many countries that I met in WoW, even though I have not played in months.
I find it so funny that everyone must try and make WoW look like a bad game. Even now when they have 9 million subs, people try to do whatever they can to make this game look bad. Get over it. You complaining about it will not change a thing. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, but with this game it is getting a little ridiculous. If it was such a bad a game as you all make it out to be, then there is no way in hell that millions of people would be playing it. I know I know, everyone is just waiting for the next big MMO to play, and that's why they play WoW now. But come on, if I didn't enjoy WoW I would not fork up 15 bucks a month to play it, I don't care if there wasn't a better MMO on the market right now...Let's say this, if WoW never existed what MMO would thos "millions" be playing? Do you think that those millions of people would play another MMO just because there was nothing better? Huh? Do you think those people would sit and play SWG, FFXI, EQ, EQ2, etc, etc. No, MOST of WoW's subscribers play this game because they enjoy it. So stop trying to bash this game, it doesn't change a thing.
hey nice thing about wow is its not a way of life its a game , i did the eq thing it was awsome as long as time allowed but honestly i cant play it anymore i enjoy jumping into wow for couple hours a night doing bg or what ever and then logging off thats why its so pupuler its a game not a lifestyle.
Some lead and some follow I prefer to stand beside!
With the release of Age of Conan and Warhammer Online, WoW will loose plenty of subscribers. Most my friends that are playing WoW now gonna quit for Warhammer
sweet jesus.. that's $135,000,000.00 a month.. a friggin' MONTH.
Since the chinese players pay like $0.50 a month to play..... I doubt it.
Not quite... They buy time cards that come in hours rather than months/days. They are quite a bit cheaper if you play normally but can tally up more per month if you play hardcore like a lot of chinese players do. So, some pay less, some pay more.
In the end, logic and reason always beat out fanboys.

You are making my point, thanks. The problem is people are viewing this as pop-culture and not caring about anything but the fact that this is the cool thing to do. If I was a game developer and someone told me my game, the thing I working on for 5+ yeas isn’t art, I would flip. Also with games out grossing Hollywood movies and live shows featuring the music of video games, you’re missing what this is.
I have been a gamer all my life and I expect developers to be making good games and not just handing out what might be the next big thing, you are right on the money when you say noone is making anything better then WoW because everyone is trying to remake WoW knowing people will only play it because it is the thing to do. WoW was a great game, the BC added nothing to it tho. But why should Blizzard care? If people hand over their money because it’s the thing to do, WoW is set in it rut.
Teturs was a great game and for its time it was a cutting edge piece of art, I still play it on my DS. People need to take a step back and see what they are doing, this isn’t just a fad it’s a game and an invenstment in time. Maybe if people looked at this as art they would play it better, then WoWs numbers would go through the roof.
What a stupid topic.. Who cares how many suscribers it has? It's a lousy and boring MMORPG. Blizzard couldnt MMORPG themselves out of a paper bag
Thank you for backing up your post with facts. And, BTW, the corporate heads who fund whatever MMO you play care how many subscribers it has because, I don't know if you know, but this is a buisiness and they couldn't care less if they make a "good" game for you. They care about money; its a buisiness, not a charity. Why else in the world do you think there are so many wow clones? You don't go around seeing many AA clones or MxO clones now do you?
In the end, logic and reason always beat out fanboys.
WoW will continue to loose players over the coming months. But WoW will never die, and when it starts to go that far..Boom WoW 2 announced. Blizzard just are the dominating games company in my eyes. If they dominated consoles they would have everything to be honest. They dominate RTS and MMORPG, get a FPS shooter out there and there we go.
No one can disrespect them because they are just a really smart company. Starcraft still has one of the largest player bases in the world for any RTS if not the biggest and when number 2 comes out, oh boy will they make some $$$$.

Yeah, with Blizzard just announcing they hit the 9,000,000 paid subscriber mark, players are leaving en mass.
