Warhammer specially at long term, Mythic knows how to make good pvp/rvr, after all is what keeps DAOC still running. On the other hand AoC will have a guild based pvp what is highly limitative.

Let's wait to see what will be released first, i intend to try both, but has an old DAOC fan i believe Warhammer will be the game, at least for me, really miss the felling of fighting for our own realm.

Age of Conan, Let me tell you why.

It looks like it will appeal to both the old time mmorpgers who played ultima and such, but it will also appeal to a younger generation, possibly people who haven't even heard of mmorpgs because it will be on the xbox 360(right?) and it has a good combo of hack and slash and strategy. The abscence of elves and fluffy settings will appeal to the younger generation as well.

Plus i am looking forward to it!

I think all those games will do extremely well. And they will all have a lot of subscribers. But that's not the point. It's not the subcribers that count, but the ACTIVE subscribers, that will keep paying and playing.  And I think Spellborn will win that one, because of their great innovations. I can't predict a landslide, because of less marketing, but I think they will do slightly better.

  • Played DAoC 5yrs that held me a very long time and it was the RvR, Battlegrounds, quests etc.. Crap I had 3 accounts I don't think any game can come close to the PvP Mythic puts out..

I played WoW when I got pissed over a nerf or something but always went back to the game.. I tried others for a few months but they just could not hold me either.. I went back to WoW when I finally decided to leave DAoC

I can't wait for WAR I know a lot are the same way..I know a lot waiting on Conan too  I plan on playing others just to see, it will take a lot for me to want to switch I'm sure..

Once!  I read that WAR is going to have the same type of PvP as we had in RvR I know it will be a blast.. Now, with EA we should have servers that can handle the load and balance

I made all the beta's for Mythic but didn't make War but then can't win them all.. Maybe I should have stayed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Secondly DAoC can be considered a 6 year long beta For WAR.  They are using everythign they learned from DAoC to make WAR A better game.

Sadly they are not allowed the best thing from DAoC in this new game.

Good RvR requires atleast 3 sides.

The best thing accoring to the playerbase is 3 way war?  I don't remember voting for that. Or is this a subjective your opinion kind of "best".

    Darkfall.

If that game is anything like they say it will be, AOC and WAR will be nothing but poofs on the radar.

Among these three the winner might be.... EQ2  :)

Provided the expansion (that is due to be released in november 2007) hits the right chords.

WAR will definitely be the winner in 2008. The smooth and bug free nature of WAR will be much more appealing to the community than that of a lagfest full of bugs and problems to be experienced in aoc.

  • RazephonRazephon Member UncommonPosts: 628

Wow what happened to these forums? I thought there was a reasonable size of AoC supporters. AoC has recieved less votes than Chronicles of Spellborn!

Oh well, we'll see who was right come 2008 eh.

Currently waiting for the MMO industry to put out something good.

Lets hope War will be a great game for all those of you who are looking forward to it. Myself not that intrested in WAR.

Lets hope AcO will do great for each of you who is looking forward to playing AoC. Will try the game ...maybe open beta....or release trial..but not really looking forward to it...

Lets hope that CoS will do great for all those who are looking forward to plaing that game. Ha'vn't really followed that game but might take a look.

Overall lets jus hope all games to come will please allot of folks instead of just one group against the other. Why must game X suck to make game Y great. I don't get it.....

Anyway for me there is no such thing as a winner, sure personal taste ..yeah...but  a winner, i hope they all win, as that is what can bring back the fun and maybe just maybe we can outnumber the negative when we all have found our nichy in the games to come.....

Wrath of the lich king is an upcomming game... and hes right despite how crap wow is it will still have the most subs people are really delusional if they honestly think warhammer age of conan and spellborn combined will do anything to wow, they are pvp games wow is not a pvp game it has like out of the 10 million i think that play it now 1 million perhaps that pvp.

Even if all those gamers left they would still be at the top of the subscribers list, and sales charts. These mmos releasing will be lucky to reach 200k to 300k players, pvp is small niche of mmo gaming their just isn't enough people that enjoy pvp that would make it possible to be able to get even get half of wows subscriber numbers.

Theres fps gamers etc, but honestly who actually thinks a very casual fps gamer wants to pay to play a mmo when they can get the pvp and community aspect from free games with no grinding etc?

Edit: Btw undisa probably got that name wrong, even if darkfall is everything it says it is which is all it does talk nothing to show, then it will be at the most as successful as eve online, it is the smallest possible niche in mmo gaming, a sandbox pvp world with full loot, that alone garentees it will never even touch age of conan or warhammer, certainly to the extent where they are ignored lol

I just have to correct and hopefully not disappoint you. The Chronicles of Spellborn is not a "PvP MMO". Sure they have the arena, full-scale pvp zones and shard-conquest(which is planned). But more than the pvp aspect tcos concentrates on deep story and story driven gaming...well kinda like the same thing. You can't change that fact when 80% of leveling xp comes from quests and pvp doesn't come until higher levels.

If I wanted (and want)to play "pvp" I'd play an FPS or a RTS game (Call of duty and company of heroes in my case)

Call me crazy, but killing masses of monsters to train skills sounds like a grind fest to me.  I know, I know.  Madness.

Ahh didn't realize that ohh well i haven't been following the game that much, they seemed to talk about pvp a lot so assumed that one is a pvp game, looks good either way hopefully it does really well then, the combat looks nice i wouldnt really care if the game was focused on pve if the combat system is as good as it looks.

Btw my favorite genre is RTS so i know what you mean, i like fps games as well, the reason i prefer them atm to mmo pvp games is due to the fact those games are skill based, mmos are based on how much time you have to play most of the time, and the ones that arent generally have far to many problems that just over shadow their good points.

But theres no denying that mmos have huge potential to have great pvp. If Darkfall was everything it says it is on paper then it is pretty much everything a good pvp mmo would have, where the world is build around pvp but it is not generally the focus. You have choices, you can pvp, pve, just stand around and talk, explore etc bascially a sandbox game.

Anyway to go back on topic, maybe TCOS does have a chance to be as successful as wow, even if pvp doesnt really happen till the end game, quest based, great combat system, good art style, and the option to other things than raiding at end game sound like a game that will do quite well, it has low system requirments as well by the looks of things.

Probably the only one that really has a chance to do well if the game is as good as it looks, i would also say the same for pirates of the burning sea which looks like a great game currently the one i am looking forward to the most.

All though i doubt it will do as well as warhammer, it will hopefully do well enough to make the worlds not seem empty, keep it updated etc

No, Wrath of the lich king is an expansion. He brought up the subscription levels to belittle these new upcomming releases which I see little point in doing. These are new mmorpgs in their own right, there is little need to beat the drums of WoW in this thread.

you really need to stop posting I dont think anything in this you said was remotely true.

#1 You thought Spellborn was a PVP game. why would you ever in god's green earth ever, ever think that

#2 You thought WAR was just a PVP game. No, it will have a lot of PVE content too

#3 You thought Age of Conan was a PVP game even though it has raiding. LOL, it has just as much PVE as PVP if not way, way more PVE content

please spend time reading the FAQs for games it only takes like 5 minutes. you should be banned for posting all this misinfo and imaginary figures

You can, but you don't have to in order to progress in the game.  Its like raising faction in other games where you have to kill thousands on another faction first.

Also you would have to be crazy to think WAR will be a smooth bugfree game at first.  They are promising too much for it to be even if they had $50 million to spend it would be impossible.

Perhaps they have more than 50$ millions? =p Also, what are those unbeliable new things that have never been done before in any game/mmo that will casue so much technical problems to war? Not to say war won't have bugs, every software program has bugs, but I don't see anything so technically cutting edge that it will cause more bugs than any other mmo.

New things in war is public quests, but those are easy to test (that everyone gets credit, that everyone's rewards work right etc)  What else? kill collector quests where if you kill mobs then find an npc who wants those mobs dead, that npc will know how many mobs you killed (game tracks those numbers) and will reward you for doign so? Again, this is easily tested. Now, maybe if you have tons of people theit database could get laggy (kind of like wow's at release when it took 30 seconds to loot mobs) but that can be tested pretty well too.

So, what else is there that haven't been done before? Combat? It's not new from technical point, tactics and morale can be easily tested (not to mention morlae is like daoc vampires/maulers power or wow's warrior rage) Instanced pvp? has been implemented in wow. open field pvp objectives? have been implemented in daoc (towers/keeps) and in wow.

Only thing that could potentially present technical problems is city sieges, but that's about it.

So, while war might be the buggiest mmo ever, I just don't see how you could claim that it will not have a bug free launch. Looking at it from techinical point, war has a lot less things that could be a problem to implemet than say aoc (real time combat? funcom would be one awesoem company if they can make that not lag with 50+ people on your screen)  and I think tcos as well is trying to implement soem things that haven't been tested in an mmo environment as far as technical aspect of it goes.
