... Also it would require restrictions on Jedi or you will upset the hardcore Star Wars fans, and if you do that you upset the non-hardcore Star Wars fans who all want to be Jedi...
I don't consider myself a hardcore SW fan and I don't wanna be jedi 8)
I have no interest in being a Jedi and I am a hardore fan of Star Wars. I would love to be a Slicer if there was a game interface for this in any star wars mmo. I always wanted to make a game geared to the Star Wars Slicer or a mod that would endorse it. Jedi are over-rated
Basically there would be a vocal minority who demanded you stick to canon and restrict Jedi and a larger less vocal group who will want to play as Jedi (huge number of people as evident by Jedi centric game sales).
They will always cater to the Jedi group, so best if we just avoid story arcs which restrict the numer of Jedi.
One of the only things I hated about SWG pre-CU / or anytime for that matter. I would see groups of Rebels and IMPs working together...I could never understand that! I think that will have to be addressed early on.
Nowadays in SWG you ignore faction for a lot of content, simply because finding 8 people to do the DWB and keeping the group together is more difficult than the content itself, by a long shot.
I agree ...
However even back in the day (2004), it was very common to see IMPs and REBs engaged in social activites. I always thought it should be all out war with one another all the time.
EXAMPLE: Last summer, when I was still playing, I would go to restuss with my Spy. I would be under cloak and would always see a group of REBs and IMPs working togther to kill "THE HAND" spawn. Well while they were standing around waiting, I would get as close as possible and pop off a shot at a REB and re-cloak. This would break thier truce and they would all start attacking one another...*sigh* Good times....
I just don't think enemies should work together!
Keep in mind there are extenuating circumstances and exceptions to the norm. While I think reb vs imp should have been enforced more, at least in terms of grouping for pve, there should also be exceptions where it is allowed or even encouraged. There were neutral planets / factions, and there is no reason we couldn't have rebs and imps on a neutral planet where there is a third faction enforcing their law on both sides, preventing open attack. Also, there is always the possibility of making up a storyline that involves a threat to both sides, where cooperation between the factions for a short time would be encouraged.
But yea, for general every day questing, cross faction relations should be discouraged.
www.lucasartsbioware.com I just hope its skillbased, has free for all open PvP with player looting, and maybe some sort of FPS element in it. I also dont want it to be a button smash. An extensive mount and crafting system would be great too.
Oh, so you want it to fail, do you?
Wtf? Unlike you, im not a carebear.
Yes, because FFA PvP games are so popular... what is the definition of failure for a MMORPG?
Hmm, let me think. Probably would be "not enough subscribers to justify the cost of continuing to keep the game running."
Using that definition, yes, FFA PvP would make the game fail.
Have a SINGLE SERVER with FFA PvP, sure, go right ahead. I'd make a toon on there for fun. Whole game? Failure.
I'd just like to point out that the LucasArts/Bioware product is listed as a different product from the MMO at the Bioware website... if you go to the link for games under production... Not to crush anyone or anything (hey, they still might be the same thing)...
Bioware will more than likely do something new or follow their creative world of Mass Effect rather than do something that has already been done and will undoubtably have direct competition with SWG.
While I see your point, I highly doubt SWG will be any real competition to Bioware's MMO lol (assuming Bioware's MMO will be in the SW universe)
by the way your sig, the video of the jedi force push then the lady falling is hillarious. i know it's cruel, but man i was cracking up, i still watch it over and over

Thanks lol! I should look for it again, I took it out because It took too much space on my sig. So now I have the replacement one for now until I can find another more suitable.

Dear god, do we have to start digging up links again that contest the arguments in your sig? I'm not gonna bother since I hate to sound like a broken record. But maybesomeone else here will take the time to shed some light on the situation.
If Bioware makes a Star Wars MMO and that is a big if, expect it to be like the Storyline quests in Lord of The Rings and not anything at all like PRE NGE SWG. Bioware's strength is their story telling. That is what has made their games popular. They are not a "sandbox" company. IF LucasArts wanted a new Star Wars game based in a Sand Box they wouldn't have gone with Bioware to make it. They would of gone to Bethesda since that is Bethesda's specialty as shown by the Elder Scrolls games.
My guess is that the game will either be KoToR, based on the Thrawn timeline, or most likely something completely not related to Star Wars. Something like Mass Effect MMO or DragonAge Online.
Everyone assumes that because some "leaked documents" states that the IP is not solely owned by Bioware and EA, means that it is a FACT. When I am sure they already had talks to LucasArts about this new project they are working on before the buyout and it isn't even mentioned on that "leaked document".
I think it is most likely that the "Leaked document" is a fake anyways.
Currently playing: LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too: Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
Even though my sig says otherwise, I'm trying my best not to keep my hopes up too much in case it isn't a SW MMO, but if it is, oh man I'll be dancing in the streets!
I wouldn't hold my breath, I very much doubt it will be a proper "MMO" with the potential SWG pre-cu had. Remember Lucasarts is the company that said "there was too much reading in SWG" and even though Bioware are developing Lucasarts has a big say. Most likely it will be an action orientated world with a battle system similar to the Kotor games and Star Wars Battlefront and most likely it will be entirely loot based and crafting will be limited much like WoW.
Remember if they want to cash in they will cash in WoW style. You will probably have to wait a good few years before an actual community orientated MMO emerges again and that will probably occur when companies give up trying to catch Blizzard with the WoW formula and try something else to attrack people to their games.
I'm all for it if it has the community element, the non loot based economies where crafting is held to the mercy of loot, actual crafting system where it isn't just ripped straight out of EQ2 i.e. Vanguard etc and you actual feel like you have an impact with your materials on the final product. A good balance between the social elements & crafting with PVE and PVP, that way everyone is happy.

Even if they did do a KOTOR online game, they would have to limit jedi somehow, in my opinion...but not too much...have it so you can only have 2 or maybe 3 jedi per account.....Because in reality (not like MMO's are anything close to reality...but hypothetically) not everyone can be a jedi...sure there were thousands of them...but they were still kinda rare...and it would really make you pause and think a bit before you hit that button to create your jedi...is this the server I want, are these the right stats, do I look cool, all that stuff, only more so cause you only get a couple of chances. This would keep the jedi population down a bit but not too much...my 2 cents
Well after playing Mass Effect (RPG if not Game of the Year, tho BioShock is still up there too) I really don't think KOTOR-Online, IF there is a KOTOR-Online will be a Pre-CU System with Alpha Classes.
Chances are the combat will have a WoW/Mass Effect feel to it. It's not really a bad thing, tell the truth I really like the Mass Effect Combat system. The fact that here we have an RPG Game that does have an FPS/Action combat system that works well is nice. Just little things like being able to take cover is a nice idea, and I can see it being used in BioWares MMO.
Also BioWare has never really gone with the whole 'sandbox' system and I believe they have said that they are not big fans of it. Class based systems are just much more easy to balance and work with, well ok in the case of the NGE SWG remember, we're dealing with SOE and old Ultima Online guys, well I think a few of them are still on SWG... UO had the whole half the combat skills nerfed, the other half are overpowered for years. I think the Dev's are used to it, and I think in a sick way, they enjoy leaving something overpowered for a few months then nerfing it and forcing everyone to change... Well also don't forget that SOE has left other classes in other games out to dry as well... Rangers in EQ1 anyone?
As for Jedi, and I feel this is why BioWare will work a tad better with it 'if' they are doing KOTOR-Online. BioWare understands 'most' Jedi are not the uber god like class that should run in and kill everything. Do I feel they will 'force' people to play non-Jedi Classes? No, but they will put the rest of them on par and up there with them.
I also feel that BioWare will do one big that will make KOTOR (if it is) better then SWG. Going with a more story driven game, rather then a "Here's the world, have fun!" That other games have done. Telling a story is one of BioWare's big strong points. The Baldur's Gate games had a great storyline going, KOTOR well hell KOTOR had a better story then the new movies had, and Mass Effect is a great start with a new Sci-Fi world. Hell keep your eye on Mass Effect really, I feel that game will in a few years time be up there with Halo.
Really I feel the big thing in the long run is, if there is a KOTOR-Online game in the works, BioWare are the right people to work on it. They do know how to balance classes out somewhat, well a class or two was a tad over powered in Neverwinter Nights, but that was mostly due to the AD&D rules at the time. BioWare will follow a timeline and not ignore things. The game will have much more of a storyline with it, something that I believe will make it alot of fun and maybe get more people into Role Play...
My over all hope is if there is a KOTOR-Online in the works. That BioWare does take there sweet time and not pull all the stunts and *rap that SOE pulled with SWG from day one.
MikeMB good post, it made me want to check out Mass Effect and see what it's about, but unfortunately I don't have a 360 lol!, maybe videos on YouTube can give me an idea of gameplay.
