I agree. There are always going to be people who like a game, and those who don't. The flaming just gets annoying.

If you don't like the game, don't play it. You're not helping anyone else by whining.

Well I guess I had better bow down to your superior intellect since you are way too smart to be playing a game that I find fun

Oh and from your comment I guess I must be insane too?

    Anyone else here insane?

The question was to make a logical argument, it was made. That argument being that this game is a copy of a game already shunned by experienced gamers (and for a reason). It is a copy of the worst sci-fi revision in MMO history, without the elements that made it a good game from the start.

If you want to release a sci-fi MMO, ground based right now, do NOT make it pseudo-fps if you want it to succeed. Chose a side, turn or FPS. Because the pseudo is SWG, the only predecessor I can think of being Neocron (which no one plays). If you are going to choose the former (pseudo) then make it fit into a larger element than your predecessor (SWG), in other words, make the game better in all aspects! With all the time they blew, why isn't this game better than current SWG? Why doesn't it look better? Why aren't character models more mod'able, why isn't there a crafting system to salute, why aren't there better constructs for communities, why wasn't a pvp system considered, why is a game as shunned as SWG even a comparison point for this one when this was released 4 years later, with twice the experience on staff (hello, Richard)?

No, you are not insane. You are having a good time. Those of us who have had a "good time" in several MMO's left pretty quickly after our trial (or 30 key) ran out. I simply think this heap could have been better than a good time. With a little development imagination, it could have been great.

It just, isn't, and shadows it's former.

The point none of you hatemongers seem to get is that for the most part we don't care about ANY of that. NONE of it. For whatever reason we find the game fun. I don't believe it's necissary to disect the reasons why I find it fun. I just know that it is for now. If after a month or two or three, it's not longer fun...  I'll stop playing, EXACTLY like I have for EVERY game I have ever played. Fun doesn't require a f'ing doctorate. If I enjoy it, it's my own personal preference. I don't need someone telling me how I'm contributing to the downfall of creativity or that I'm somehow mentally retarded and can't understand the concept of gaming.

You guys fill every damn thread in every forum with hate, contempt and derision for the game, gamers and designers of practically every MMO I've ever enjoyed. Check my list of games played. Check their forums. You can't even mention WOW in a thread without 40 haters spamming crap that usually has nothing to do with the thread.

This thread was about someone being delightfully surprised by the joy and fun the game brought them, but like every other thread about TR, it was taken over by opinionated ignorant haters that feel it's their duty to tell everyone in detail exactly how they think this game sucks.

We do NOT care what you think of the game. It's obviously not for you. Now can we have our forum back please? Or MMORPG.com needs to open a second forum for TR haters and trolls. Why they don't enforce their guidlines is beyond me. Their definition of trolling specifically applies to this situation.

I love the way you summed yourself up in the first paragraph. Thank you ever so much for saving me the ban. Really, I appreciate it.

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

    Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.

    Wow. That's just stupid.

Maybe you don't f'ing comprehend the sentiment. I come here to read about the game I'm currently playing and EVERY  single thread is FILLED with useless trolling hatred from you and people like you. Since TR doesn't have an official forum and MMORPG.com is my primary gaming forum, I would like to see threads about the game that didn't get sidetracked every time with this useless shit.

Yes, it's all very stupid and makes these forums pointless.

Nope,  I comprehend. You said it's all stupid, I agree. It has been stupid for a long, long time. This is no different.

Whatever. Your post was condescending and inflammatory. You want to believe we're all stupid for playing this game that's your own bag. Actually calling us stupid and then having the nerve to call it a logical argument is just laughable. You and many others obviously don't want to listen to anyone that actually finds fun in games like this, so blow through my discourse and hone your witty retort without ever understanding wtf I'm trying to say. Edit: Note: I did not call you "stupid," my argument came first, even then, yep, didn't call you stupid.

No, Actually, I did not call you stupid, I questioned the basis of the game as to whether it has any staying power beyond 1.2 seconds, because that is what makes a successful mmo, the ability to move on when the basic content has been "won." You stated yourself what you thought I "was" saying without ever having read what I typed. That is not my fault. I may have been snarky in response, but that is only because you twice missed what I was typing. I said I am glad you are having a good time now, I equally had a good time for 1.2 seconds during beta, and as I said these are the first comments I have made since beta. You simply did not read why I found this game nothing but "derivative". The above poster asked for a logical reason why some of us find this game drool. Personally, I find it insulting, not that you are here, you are fine, but that we, (maybe not you), perhaps I, am insulted that NCSoft expects $50 for NGE alpha release 0.2. My post was not condescending or inflammatory, it only reiterated what you said about yourself. Go back and read my statements again, or don't. As you stated, whatever.

This game is as finished as any I've played at release. Most MMOs don't release with fully realized or even functional endgames. This game released without a hitch and doesn't have more than the normal share of intial bugs. If I waited for a perfect MMO, I'd never play one. The fact that you're insulted by this game only means you're easily insulted. They're games. Saying it insults you, implies to me that it insults your intelligence. This is pretty much what you said in your initial post.

Your initial post is what I'm talking about. Your second was just backtracking and trying to justify being an ass. It isn't a logical argument, it's 100% your opinion and your opinion is that we're idiots for playing this. Really, I couldn't care less about you or your opinion. If you bothered understanding anything I've posted I've tried to be VERY clear on that point. I'll state it once more. I'm tired of trolls that hate on games in every forum on this site and in particular I'm tired of every TR thread turning into a pulpit for trolls and haters to state what a steaming pile of crap they think this game is and that the playerbase are a bunch of mindless tools.

    Posted by Dalevi1:

Glad I read the last paragraph, you know the one where you got done insulting everyone who finds this game insulting? (Yes, I am insulted that this is the only release I cared about over the thin past year).
    1) You hit 60 in WoW in 2004. Join the millions. Sorry, that will be my only WoW bash. It does not, however, display a schwerve on these forums. We've all played WoW, 8 bazillion people on these forums played WoW. Wow, cl60 in 04. You Badass you.
    2) TR. Why didn't some of us like it? 1) Complete NGE:SWG combat system. A complete and utter copy, although it was just as good (IE Trash). If you want to make a Sci-Fi MMO, you cannot make it under the same auspice as the most recent tragedy. I don't know what they were thinking other than, "Hey SOE had a great idea but they fumbled it, let's make the same thing and get it RIGHT!" The problem is, there was no way to get that right. SWG is actually a pretty smooth system at this point, the problem is, the system was fundamentally flawed to start with (in the NGE). They copied it, hook, line, and 2 ton sinker. You will get no, mark it ZERO sympathy on these forums for doing so. Plus, the game I mentioned before, is 4 years old and still four times deeper than the TR launch. They have the same combat system, but they also have open areas, 9 worlds, space (see ships), player housing, useful non-combat professions, and a sense of group and community...not to even mention real PvP (which I HATE to say), and an impressive, scalable engine to boot (see, "I can look however I wish"). So TR has the combat system we all hate with zero frills.
Again, why would a sane human being play this game? Because it's new? Because it's pretty? There is still a pile out there that looks better and plays better and is cheaper to obtain. I am just smart enough not to repeat past mistakes, because I can say this, the game fails, or it changes, then fails. It's a rock, and I am looking forward to the notice (AA) NCSoft gives in 6 months announcing L2 requires more revenue, so this one needed scrapped.

Okay M8, here is my second post. My first was much more tame, so I assume you skipped that one. Really, so tame I would have ignored it too. I never deviated from this post, I never "back tracked". Stop complimenting yourself. You have yet to make a single counter to this post. Not, one. It still stands. TR is a shallow copy of the worst development move in MMO history. Plain and simple. You have YET to saty one thing to counter that argument other than "hey, it's DONE MAN!!" Well, if this is "done," MMO's have sunk lower than I thought they ever could. AND, what is that endgame again, you know the one in TR you allude to knowing so much about? In SWG we had the end game running until it was stripped from us. The argument, AGAIN. TR is a combat copy of SWG:NGE with NO SUB SYSTEMS. Nothing, nada, zilch, zero, zada, zalley, niltch. NOTHING. Where have I backed away from this? I backtracked not once...This game is a travesty to what it should have been. Period.

Funny, how you follow up with how TR players are nothing but a bunch of mindless tools. Well, you have yet to address a single thing I have said, other than my cynical responses to other posts (they were one liners, much easier for you to read and respond to I guess, you know, without actually needing to read between the lines). I never called any of them tools, you did, but I'd be happy to call you a tuel to your face, but I assume you'll come back with how you are a marine from alabama from vietnam, and you'd kick my keister in RL and etc. etc. etc.

You have yet to really respond, my guess is you never will because you have no idea what I am talking about.

I read every word you posted and understood the meaning to be that you called anyone playing this insane and then tried to soften your stance and rationalize your statement.

Go ahead and keep thinking this is just about you though.

You have yet to really respond, my guess is you never will because you have no idea what I am talking about.

I'll restate it AGAIN. I do NOT care one bit of your opinion of TR. I don't care to counter any "copycat" accusation or defend myself from your condescending attacks on my and other TR players intelligence or taste. I wasn't attempting to counter you. In every single post in this I have stated that I am tired of people like you feeling you have the right to flame anyone that says they enjoy a game that you find distasteful.

It's not about you or your opinion. It's about your attitude which is shared by many others on this site. I feel like a broken record and don't know how I can restate this to make you understand. We should be allowed to play the games (not just TR) that we find fun and discuss them in this forum without constantly being subjected to derissive trolling posts from people like you.

I really don't care to explain it further. I'm fairly certain most have gotten my point. Post something about how your flame is still undisputed if you want. I never set out to justify your trolling by debating it. M8.

    Speaking of missing the point...

The reason this game has "sucked you in" (which I dont doubt), is that it is NOT an FPS.

It is a standard MMO with some guns replacing traditional fantasy weapons.

The combat system has not added a single element that was not already in existence in either AO, SWG pre CU or Neocron.

Generally speaking the people that seem to like TR just havnt had the breadth of MMO experience to make valid comparisons so they present it to other newcomers as something "new"

There is almost nothing new about this game other than the name and even that is derivative.

Even the storyline was ripped straight from the Raelian philosophy.

Its actualy pretty sad that :

A : people are "sucked in" by it..... and

B : they couldnt come up with something more original and technically courages given the time, the budget and the people behind it.

So dont confuse the fact that you like it with it being good. Like I said about Brittany Spears music.... its wildly popular but it is still crap. The two are basically mutually exclusive in many cases and this is one of them.

actually, based on the highlighted text above, it sounds like you havn't even played TR. The combat system is NOTHING like the games you've mentioned. I played AO for 3 years, and off and on to this day. I put a good 6+ months into Neocron, and several years into SWG, in all it's incarnations.

People LIKE TR, and are going to buy it and play it. No amount of trolling / ranting is going to change that.

It's one of the three games I play right now, because it satisfies the need for a futuristic war-game. The intense, fast-paced TR is unique among the MMO genre, and a breath of fresh air, IMO.

Explain what aspect of the combat system is a new or innovative part or section that has never been done in any of the games I mentioned ?

If you look at the sum total of AO, Neocron and SWG pre CU, you have seen all the elemnets present in TR

And of course I havnt played it.... Im just making it all up.... isnt that what your sposed to do on forums....

Take Eve as an example. It borrows heavily from games such as UO and Privateer. I'm sure you could assemble a list of prior games that pretty much completely encompass the features in Eve. By similar logic, does that mean Eve is a "turd" as well?

Well, if you've played all of the above mentioned games, then you KNOW what the differences are.

Especially AO...I mean, come on...AO is classic "Hit Q (for auto attack, in case you've never played it ), and spam specials. Don't get me wrong, I love AO, but it's old-school "fight one mob for two minutes" combat. I've been in AO raids where it took 3 guilds working together FOURTY MINUTES to kill ONE mob. You'll never see that in TR.

SWG Pre-CU? No similarity whatsoever. Mindshot, for example...the entire HAM system....Doc Buffs, 80% kinetic (or energy) Composite? Come on...I want to see a 20 minute dizzy/KD TKM duel in TR...never going to happen.

Neocron...I see Stealth PI's pop out and gank n00bs at the low level grinding spots with their 5-slotted, speed-modded Libbies all the time...then hack their belts...really.....(ok, not).

TR's combat is nothing like any of these games. Now, each of these games is (or was) fun in it's own way, and TR's combat is fun in it's own way. Fights are over in seconds, not minutes, and the battle is almost constant from the moment you log on 'till the moment you log off, because it's constant fast-paced, adrenaline-rush WAR.

So, I'm glad I didnt listen to the nay sayers, because I'm having a real good time so far, I dont even feel the need to level quickly as in every other mmo i've played, and thats refreshing.

Come back in a few weeks after you continue to rinse and repeat the same mission types over every map/zone you visit, not to mention the HUGE crowd of "Rambo" wanna-be's which will just make your day im sure!

Oh and did i mention, once you mention the word "level" in reguards to acheiving something ingame you have auto[magically] turned over to the never ending "Level Grind Fest".

Good luck shoting over and over and over again just to gain that extra level that doesnt offer anything new.

All that matters is not "content" or "other mmo comparisons" or "lack of this/that".  All that matters is:  Are you having fun playing the game?  Right now, I am having a lot of fun playing this game.  And that's all that matters.

Has it been "worth it"?  Consider the 50$ I spent on the game and a 15$ monthly subscription, I've already got about 40 hours of game time done.  That equates to just over a cost of $1.5 per hour of FUN gaming, and falls into the "most definitely been worth it" category.

Have you guys noticed how to every critical post made about TR gets the same "Well I'm having fun!" response time and time again?

Go criticize a game in the making like AoC or WAR and people will totally love to tell you the technicalities of it and how it will bring a new age to the MMO genre. Go criticize one of the "giants" (EQ2, whatever), and you'll receive similar respones, apart from the "I have fun, you don't, go away!" which we like so much. They'll be happy to tell you how everything works and why it's great in videogame terms. Here, all I see is "Me me me".

If that's all that TR relies on, then, like dalevil1 said, it won't last very long if the devs aren't proactive and self-critical. And yes, I bought TR a week ago and am thoroughly enjoying it, but I don't really see too much of a future in it if things keep going (dev-wise) as they were in beta. In any case I agree with most of his points about it being repetitive and a re-hash of "that other game". That doesn't mean I don't enjoy it, though, not at all. It's a crapload of fun, but it's not gripping, and the classes are uninteresting and uninspired (so, we have Tank-like DPS, a Tank, an AoE damage dealer, a single target damage dealer, a damn buffer, and a damn debuffer... innovative my butt). Considering all that could've been done, the result really comes up short, even when it's quite a lot of fun. So yes, it matters what people think about the game, regardless of individuals having fun with it or not, because that's the only way the genre moves on. If the devs don't realize the shortcomings of their own creation then who's gonna revitalize it in the long run? Certainly not you.

  • AcePylutAcePylut Member Posts: 20

Is this what you call "critical post"?

I just do not believe you guys.

I have serious doubts that the crap fest that I played in late beta is suddenly a very good game.

Pesonally I just think alot of you are used to crap games (Face of Mankind, Roma Victor, Knights Online, etc) so any thing better then that is good in your opinion. I also think your just trying to trick alot of us into playing this so that it will not sputter and hang on by a thread like the above mentioned titles.

I will just wait for the trial to see these "Improvements". I refuse to listen to this propaganda

    I don't.

This thread was fine until this doofus showed up.

  • AcePylutAcePylut Member Posts: 20

What's hilarious is people actually believe any sort of "newness" out of a MMORPG.  There isn't.  The genre is defined by the level grind.  Blame TSR for the level grind if you're going to blame anyone.  They are the one's that created it back in the early 70's.

Saying there's going to be a "next gen" MMORPG is like saying that there's going to be a next-gen FPS.  There won't be.   If you aren't looking down the barrel of a gun in first-person perspective, then you don't have an FPS game.  What makes a game a "next gen" game>?  Something stupid and not a feature but is pumped up like some sort of new feature.  Like when the fps genre evolved to allow players to JUMP! Wooooooo, how radical.  How evolutionary. Er, no.  In a similar vein, If you don't have your RPG classes - tank, damage dealer, long range nuker, healer, stealth type, pet-summoner... then you don't have an MMORPG.

Sorry, what you guys are "looking" for isn't an MMORPG.  It's a MMOxxx (last three initials as yet to be determined).

Call me cynical, but I don't give two bits about whatever the game as billed as by it's developers/distributors.  EVERY game ever created has some "new fancy feature that separates it from the others"... or so the people trying to market the game will tell you.

So you throw out all that crap, and go by what the game IS... and right now... Tabula Rasa IS fun.

It might not be fun in three months, and I really don't give a damn.

What are we really talking about here?  It's not that a lot of people are having fun with the game - it's about some people that feel obligated to try and make everyone else feel their misery because they aren't having fun and someone else is.  To them, I say, in the immortal words of William Shatner:  Get a LIFE!

How long have you played the game?  I personally have never said TR isn't fun at the beginning.  But I don't buy MMOs for the first 40 hours of gameplay....if I wanted that I'd buy a singleplayer game.  I buy MMOs for months to follow.  Now if TR isn't fun past the first month of playing, then it's a crappy MMO.  It might make a fun SP or MP game, but not a fun MMO worth a subscription fee.

I don't doubt that people are having fun, I doubt that they have played long, or will be having fun next month.  So the posts of everyone saying the game sucks are valid and serve to save people money.  I personally don't want to see any of my friends pay $50 bucks, start saying how great the game is and get other friends to buy the game, then 2 weeks later stop playing.
