modding is one of the reasons why games seem to stick to a PC or Hybrid concept, I'll agree with that.   But how long before that bridge is gapped?  These machines are already coming with harddrives now and you can plug keyboards and mice into them as well, how long before straight up development can start on them (ie, programming straight on the console)?

Consoles are a long ways from what they used to be and are more like computers than the old consoles we used to use as kids.

  • InzraInzra Member Posts: 679

This post/thread seems more like a trolling attempt to me...

I don't see why playing with kids from a console would be a problem, I've played WoW and could handle all the kids there, some of them were even nice. They are not all hellspawns.

But still I'm looking forward to a slightly more mature community with the M-rating, if a kid stumbles in - nomatter pc/xbox, it's their problem -or their parents problem- , not mine.

The type of community have never made me back away from a game that is in essence good quality and well made. What can I say......I like pie? :D

If this is the best argument for not getting AoC, things are looking good :P

AOC PC, and XBOX 360 Players  Will NOT be on the same servers as of right now.   Unless this changes, but I don't think it will.  360 needs things to work SLIGHTLY differently.     I won't be playing the 360 because I'm not paying for Xbox Live, AND AoC.   I only have time for 1 game in my life, and it'll be exclusively AoC unless it turns out to be a turd of a game.   I understand to some degree about the Xbox Live crowd,  but  far be it to keep me from playing a game that seems to be the best game made to date.

The OP come out a bit crazy there . But I have to admit that when FFXI came out on  PS2 , it was nightmare for us PC player and old school JP console players(much more mature and mostly adults in japan). The level of immaturity was astounding and what a bunch of noobs . Seriously 90% of 1st week of release  PC players made it to max level eventually , became good to amazing players and where just plain fun to be around. Then the NA ps2 noobcake parade came , it was like watching a bunch of retards on ADD. No commitment , no reliabilty , etc.. The level of social interactivity in console only players( i assume if you play on pc , you'll get an MMO on it...) is pathetic at best.

Probably what the Op grip is about . For what i understood , he fear the same for AoC. A flood of less skilled and commited players .

    1. The features available to PC users will not be the same for console users.
    2. The code sent between the end user and server for a console is  slightly different than a pc.
    3. PC servers go live in March, Consoles in Sep (if theres no delays for consoles). They will not suddenly have console users flood existing and established servers with new server code for console users.
    4. Console users will have thier own servers, and probably only be accessed through the live service. It will be entirely seperate from the PC users.

Educated guess? More like wishful thinking.

Sorry Monkey Boy, when you have an understanding of how a typical virtual world works with regards to MMO servers, you can make educated speculation using logic and reason without "wishing" for anything. If you have anything to bring to the table that directly contradicts the statement I made, then please share.

I honestly could care less, I do not own any consoles at all. Just trying to take the doom and gloom you hold onto so dearly down a few notches.

Nothing to be sorry about Mr. Educated with the deep understanding of the MMO worlds.

    A. I do not hold any doom or gloom. For one claiming to have a deep understanding and a strong sense of logic and reason you are rather quick to make assumptions based on... well nothing really. I have not posted anything in this thread regarding the doom of AoC due to it being released also on the XBOX 360.

    B. Saying things like "The features available to PC users will not be the same for console users." and then claiming its an educated guess is nothing other than wishful thinking. If anything, it makes more sense for Funcom to not have a different set of features for each platform. Separeted servers is logical as is having some hybrid common servers for XBOX and PC.

    Stop taking yourself so seriously.

I didn't have the patience to read the whole thread since it consists 50% of lashing out at someone trying to make their point.

Thus sorry if i am repeating certain stuff already said.

I kinda understand OPs point. May be he a bit overreacted since the game is not out yet and you can't be sure how 'consoled' it is going to be. He also might not have done enough research in terms of game mechanics thus he does not completely know how things are (Neither did i). But i want to say just one thing. Having game fit the console is pretty much gimping the mechanics since you can't make controller fit into stuff the mouse is used to do. For example if console player and pc player would meet in fps i am 100% sure the controller user would be sack of meat for the beating. What the op was trying to tell is that keyboard+mouse is usually more versatile than controller. And if the game is made with console part in mind it usually means that it has the controls/mechanics made the way to fit controller playing style and some features either removed or made less vital to create an equal playground. Lineage 2 for example it can be pretty much played on equal ground with both mouse+keyboard or controller. You do not need to change your viewing point too much to face the character since he is not moving much either. Imagine if FFXI relied a lot on moving your VP around to face your opponent and deliver blows instead of just standing still and picking options or clicking icons. And even then those things are important in PvP mostly. Seriously how many mobs circle-strafe and backstab you in WoW ?

With this said i hope you understand the point of the OP. And if someone says they won't buy something or don't like and provide the reason for it remember that its their reason and they do not force it on you, but are just voicing their opinion. No need to tell someone he is stupid because he a bit overreacted or his reason for not playing seems stupid. Since some people might find your reason for playing actually even more stupid.

ACTUALY,  Jorgen said a few months back,  that  it's NOT likely that XBOX and PC players will be on the same sever, due to the fact that the way they are handled is slightly different.   However he said that if they can work the out the kinks this could change.

The inherent limitations of the console are the trade-off for uniform architecture.

You may think cross-platform development is not a problem, but I assure you it is. If you have to develop something for a platform that has a capacity of X and another that has a capacity of Y, the end product has to work on both X and Y. That's an obejctive fact.

This means, by definition, that Age of Conan's development will be limited by console limitations.

Which means that the consolization of this arcade game will do for the Age of Conan concept we've been sold what cross-platform produced Thief 3 did for the Thief games, what the last Deus Ex game did to that series and what Oblivion did to the Elder Scrolls series.

That is, dumb it down to simple button mashing, simplistic inventory interfaces, and other arcade game click-and-shoot features.

Maybe this is your cup of tea. Maybe you're so modern you don't even realize that there is a difference between video games and computer games.

You can keep your console game. I'm not touching it, and I bet I'm not alone. I'm not helping what's killing my hobby.

You guys are just stating the community aspect of this.

The fact that gameplay and graphics are affected because of consoles is a whole nother issue.

One could rattle off many many titles that should have been good if it weren't for the xbox.

this is such a wasted post from an idiot. who doesn't know its coming out for the 360. ( i read on a gamestop prerelease site that for the 360 it was sometime around october 2008). Who cares if it's coming out for both. Kids will be in both, that will not change, M rating is as much as they can do about that. i play xbox live all the time and rarely have problems with immature children. I'd like to see statistics of the amount under 13 on live and the amount under 13 playing mmo's. Can't be that drastically different. Their are thousand and thousands of adult on xbox live that will get AOC and the only thing it will add are more players. In my opinion that is only more money toward the game and as a rusult more money to spend on making it better. Microsoft is a huge company and can only help money wise. As for button mashing, OK spazes who say this. After all the mmo's out their that are auto-attack and whatnot, who isn't excited to attack with directions and real-time.

And dumming down for the console, just don't talk. Here's a tid-bit. Everyone knows that microsoft has been involved for years. The game/funcom has been developing the game with that always in the back of their head. So all of sudden you hear about this game, read about it, write about it, and all the other video watching you do to get interesting about it;  then it wouldn't make sence to all of a sudden learn this and say it's dummed down. If so a dummed down game caught your attention enough to learn about it and want to play it initially. Those amazing graphics and all new feature seem like a dummed down game.

and i don't know what to say about merging servers. there not all going to be merged servers. It's a freakin year practically before it comes out on 360, and then by then their people will be just starting characters. (don't have to play with them). In addition someone said it to smart for xbox live children and they wont have the pascient for an mmo. I hope your right then you will never see these kids cause we'll all be 50's, or more, by then.

Overall i play live and i would play AOC anyday with everyone of these kids. I really don't care cause i like the game. Lastly the guy who started this said xbox like HALO has no skill and its all luck. Like what douche, mmo's are the most skilled based video games, all of it's fast reflexes nesisarry to click buttons. It takes smarts to be good at mmo's, skill is a small factor. Halo is the opposite you douche. It's few smarts and all skill, all about quickness, luck rarely infuenes halo over the course of a entire game. I just love how AOC looks and all the info and gameplay video's they have about it. Im looking forward to it, and while your not because of the 360 factor, then while stuborn, immature, and il-logical, its no skin of anyones back who plays the game.

The OP is a very stupid man.  Apparently he thinks that it is easier to use a console than a PC.  I have... no words.  I believe, to date, only Shadowrun has ever attempted to stick Console Players and PC players in the same FPS.  And they had to include AutoAim for the Console players because otherwise they were walking targets.

The interface for a console is LOUSY for FPS.  It is based off the fighting games interface, and thus is optimized for fighting games - to handle long combos of simple keypresses precisely, instead of a large variety of different options precisely.

My only fear is they'll dumb it down for PC players in order to make the console version work.

My thoughts exactly, I will be cancelling  , I knew there was talk about xbox conversions, but the poster here makes a good point. I have bought 3 recent single player games that were also released on the xbox 360, all of which are so simplified at this point they are just not fun anymore.

Sorry console gamers but a few things I have noticed sense owning a 360 and a PC. Games are a heck of allot shorter in game play (time it takes to finish a game). The dumbed down interfaces and controls are made more simplistic for consoles for obvious reasons. Anything with the idea of going to console or being developed console first have always had that (as post quoted above) X and Y must work. To do this , means simplifying, in the end means crappy game play. Finally whats with the 60 dollar price tag on a 360 game and people are paying it? That is a shock  sense most of these games give you 20 hours of gameplay and MP to fill in the rest, I guess MP is worth 60 bucks.

In the day, one could say " ya, I am buying this I will get easily 120 hours of gameplay and it's cheaper then a movie and dinner". now its "ya, I won't buy that game, I will get more entertainment out of a movie and dinner then a 20 hour game".. at least it's coming to that and I hope it comes sooner then later. :)

Eh I am sure there are people that loves this new approch but like many I am not one of them. As much as this hurts to say it, looks like warhammer for me :P , dam.

Edit: I seen that leaked vid and now the annoucment of another push back, nothing here that makes me want to go out and buy it. Also the veil of rescent secracy that has come about this title in the last year or so is another reason. Eh who knows, they might pull a magic rabbit out of their ass, but as this point , I highly doubt it. All titles I have seen recently in the last few years have delays for one reason, cross-platforms.

Makes sense to have this on xbox 360  because many will not have the computers with the spec to play, let alone enjoy the graphics.  I was thinking about this very issue and wondering whether to upgrade my PC  by changing the motherboard etc.   I'd rather play no PC, but either way the game would be fun.

I agree with dobbsie213.  Porting the game to the 360 will allow people without cutting edge computer graphics to enjoy the game without having to sacrifice the visuals.  I'll probably give it a go on the 360, too.

As for understanding the OP... I do understand his position, I just don't share it.  And he seemed to be able to handle the flamers perfectly fine.  In fact, he flung some poo at them, too.  Are you his mum?

My comp is already more than two years old, and will be almost three years old by the time Conan releases in May. If it doesn't run smoothly, I will seriously consider getting an Xbox for Conan (and other games), and just keeping this rig for web browsing and email.

it takes zero skill to press the "A" button. i'm sorry but honestly, this is stupid and rediculous, if this IS the case then i will be playing warhammer. i can't handle that crap due to the fact that not ONLY would it not make it any fun, but every one and their damn mom would be on there, from an 8 year old child to a 60 year old pedophile. I 'm so sick to flipping god of playing with 14 year old children that yell at their mom because they choose to not sleep at night over Ventrilo, or over a headset. I'm so sick of seeing the word "noob" and watching some one get flamed because

    THEY CARN'T SHPEEL GOOD
    isn't that right?!
i THOUGHT maybe, just maybe age of conan MIGHT end up bringing that "Adult" type of game, but no it looks like the only place where i will find that is in a sex toy shop. and that is rediculous. THIS is why i'm upset. I pray to god and any other god that is even religion based that this BS does not hit a console. you can flame me all yo uwant, but those of you who ARE smart would agree that YOU TOO are sick of this.
I CAN NOT BE THE ONLY ONE. i know that for a fact. that is my defense, no not a defense, a fact, it's every where.
i will bet you REAL money that someone ALREADY has flamed me for either spelling, or because that "well video games are FOR the childrens sake." please don't give me that Horse Sh*t.

Uhhh, dude, first of all AoC will be different than FF, you wont press "a" to auto attack someone, most likely u will press a direction on the D-pad or something. you wont click "a" to make you start runnin to an enemy and then attack it. This game IS skill based on many levels, with combos, spellweaving, etc. And making the game avalible for 360 will not bring more children to the game, the damn ESRB rating will remain the same, you dumb fuck.

SO SHUT THE FUCK UP AND STOP BITCHING YOU DUMB SHIT WHINY ASS BITCH!
