I want to try War and Aion, So far everything I have read on AoC makes me think its one of those games that promise the world and will never deliver it.

    I longed for her beauty
    Yet from dust, she returned

It is really annoying that it's pushed back AGAIN, but whatever, at least I'll be able to get more money for a better comp and whatnot.

I just got Sins of a Solar Empire and Sim City 4 so I think that'll hold me over for a while.

    Bollocks!

  • WelchyyWelchyy Member Posts: 12

I was going to buy both regardless.

I just get to enjoy AoC a few months longer before I trash it now.

    honestly.

reading a lot of your comments about type of people playing certain games, i would like to mention:

       - WAR will be appealing to the "barrens chat" players much more than AoC because of 3 main reasons: 1) its a lot like wow and that game seems to attract 'barrens chat' the most, 2) AoC is age restricted, which makes it still available to young players but much less accessible, 3) AoC is much more hardcore in sense of controls and mental requirements, which would make it less appealing to certain types of people...

       - if some of you think differently form these obvious reasons, chances are you are one of the 'barrens chat' players. and reading these threads really reminds me of the good old barrens chat, honestly.

War is not like Wow though. I think it's obvious you have not played either. The barrens chat type of players are going to play the game with the gore, the blood, the guts, the heads being chopped off. I mean, just look on Youtube for an example. The mass majority of little kids are the ones praising AOC and saying things like "Aoc pwns, WAR is a WOW clone lawlz".

I also don't know why you say it's more hardcore in terms of controls and mental requirements. It's a twitch based game. Twitch base games are ruled by little kids annoying kids. Go hop on COD4, TF2, Halo 3 etc..

I think others have already answered it very well. I will never understand the so called "fanboy" feeling some people have as if they have stock in the company. I just want to play a game and enjoy myself. I don't care who made it, I don't care what its name or past history. I care about the current product and if I have fun playing it.

So in the end this helps a bit. I will get the time needed to truly judge AoC before deciding if I wish to continue with it or move on to try Warhammer. Needless to say if Warhammer was released near AoC's time there would be the chance of a rash decision or sitting there paying for two games while trying to decide. Now that may not be the case.

I'm sorry but if you think gore, nudity, and a mature rating will repel young players, you are wrong.

If anything it will attract them in hordes due to the idea that it is something more "mature."

Ive never really been interested in AoC i remember reading it was going to be a cross platform mmo

not sure how true that is i havent really thought about it or read up on it much but if it is and its on the xbox360 or ps3 and pc !

i can already hear the abuse that would be shouted down the microphone if anything like other games ive played over xbl ! really makes me want to nuke america :p

The game with the better advertising will have the most players, wow proved it. Its not about a good release or gameplay, its all about advertising.

I don't care what mmorpg has the most players or I would still be playing WoW. All I care which is a better game (for my playstyle), and that one will get my money.

that being said, its why i mentioned it will be less accessible. they will have to have somebody else buy it for them (due to mature rating of the product). and they will need a parents credit card, which will not happen in every case due to parental control. but they will ALL play WaR, guaranteed.

i love age of conan and cant wait for the release, their combat style, mounted combat and open world mmo thrill the **** out of me. i will still try War when its released, hell i might even preorder to try it in beta, but all i am saying right now - if AoC is anything its gonna be in my mind - hell ****ing yeah i am playing it!

also i dont care about 'barrents chat', it never disturbed me, all i care about is enough players to play with and fun time spent in game.

i was just saying too all people who put comments similar to 'aoc=barren' to stfu.

I am sad it was pushed back but I was getting both games anyway and see which one appealed to me more. Though WAR has been on my list since it was announced and then cancelled and then announced again lol.

Ridiculous statement. Here in the Netherlands "advertising" for games and MMO's is practically zero and before the game was even out of beta I had already got 3 of my friends addicted to it simply by giving them a beta account to play it on and these people were *not* mmo players and were serious "You pay monthyl? Pfff" people.

WoW sold itself by word of mouth which is *not* possible if your game sucks.

My intention was always to go for AOC.  It will have alot of new stuff but also alot of new stuff that players will not like at first.  And it will have have bugs and stuff.  We can be 100% sure about that.  But I will still give it a fair go and try out the endgame content.  I play MMOs for longterm progress.  I just desided this last week that I will not play WoW any longer.  On the eve of new patch in WoW I felt I had been cheated out of last 3 years of playing a holy paladin with the changes that have happended to that spec in less than a year.  Thats something that is not acceptable.  And Im not paying for such things long term anymore.  Devs that behave like Blizzard have done in past years should be ashamed of themselfs and they way they go on about "balancing" classes shows total lack of respect and just incompitent group of ppl that doesn't give a flying fuck about their players.

Thats not what Im after longterm.  If I find a gamestyle in a MMO that I like to play then I want to have fair chance to prove my worth as player.  And tbh I really want something new at this point in time, rather than rerolling in a game that doesn't show good players respect for their long term loyalty and work.

I`m a fan of WAR and honestly the more I see about WAR the more I feel that I will not like the game.WAR has lots of interesting features but it`s not as innovative as many are praising and I don`t think it's a coincidence if the game has a WOWfeel(not WoW clone)WAR is suffering (and Will suffer) of its overhyping by Barnett .MYthic is spending too much time thinking about WoW  instead of focusing on real issues and not feeling confident about their baby.Every MMO player knows that it takes 4 to 5 years to develop an MMO but MR Barnett wannabe ROCKstar has been so much overdoing things that people have been waiting and hoping that the game will be ready in 3 years as EAmythic has intently misled people to believe. In the end we ended up with an unfinished mmo which has been delayed 3 times and I doubt they 'll be able to pull it according to their ETA.2009 is more realistic to me but by then they will be crushed by WoTLK.

Yes I will purchase AoC and if i`m hooked with the game which is truely innovative, I`ll stay in Hyboria even if WAR is released in almost perfect state because I've invested time and money.

I will also be the first to say that WAR and AoC are two VERY different games. Very different mechanics and they appeal to different player types. However, they are equal in ONE major area...They are both NOT WARCRAFT, and I submit to you that this fact will be a major driving force.
A similar release date is longer the case. I find myself now looking at AoC and the #1 choice. To try and to embrace and If , for some reason, I disliked AoC I would then turn my attentions to WAR.
    Anyone else have similar plans?

Nope, not at all.  After Funcom disclosed their crafting system, I cancelled my pre-order.  Combine that with CTF style guild warfare instead of open zones and no AH system, I opted out.  I'm holding out for Star Trek Online and Warhammer Online, and will gladly stick with what I know works until then.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

  • GodliestGodliest Member Posts: 3,486

I just realized that I've got a slight shortage of money! Which may or may not affect if I'm going to buy AoC, it probably will be more about how good the game looks closer to release. If AoC turns out to be good the chances are still quite big that I'll buy WAR since I've been anticipating it for quite a long time now.

I remember watching a video where Mark Jacobs stated the game was scheduled for release at the end of 2007. It's kind of getting ridiculous now. I haven't played a mmorpg in 6 months now except Tabula Rasa for 2 days but I won't go there. I honestly enjoy watching the plants in my aquarium grow more than playing any mmorpg on the market now. The thing that scares me most is we haven't really seen much as far as real content ie character classes/abilities from WAR yet, other than general ideas and crap. I've been waiting for Warhammer's release for over a year now, and honestly the longer I wait the less interested I get, and the more I think that it's going to be a big POS with all these delays. I know they're saying it's because we want to release a polished game, but it shouldn't take over a year to "polish" a game. Will I buy Aoc? Depends on if they release a trial and the game is good. Not blowing another $60 on a hyped POS like Tabula Rasa. Even with all the delays I'll still be buying Warhammer? Unless Starcraft 2 gets released first  in which case they screwed themselves for spending 7 years developing a game, when they could've just released Daoc 2 and made it Pre-TOA Daoc and just changed the skins/abilities/landscape slightly. /shrug
