People who are thinking about playing Lord of the Rings Online

I know there is a lot of world of warcraft kids drinking hatorade who troll this forum.

I think they tend to sway others oppinions

I stand to believe that people get so involved into a videogame, and believe their time spent is of such noteworthy praise (im lvl 70 with the best gear, check me out!) that they are unable to open their eyes to a new frontier.

well i can honest to god say, without any hesitation that this is the most polished mmo I have ever played.

I hope some of you open your blinders and turn away from that aging game wow, because before you know it...youll have missed out on several other quality mmorpgs being such dedicated fanboys.......not only this one, but ones in the future.......

This is a great experience.....not perfect, but very very good, and your money will be well spent because their is always something around the corner.

and truth be told, ive played a ton of mmos including wow and they are all in the same ballpark excluding minor details...what seperates a couple is the experience within the game, the storyline, the grouping, the community, player vs player, and well......just your overall experience......and a lot of games fail to deliver, but this one really gets most of them right (except pvp can be a little tedious, unfair, and boring during certain times of the day)

shush....leave the WoW kiddies in WoW. LOTRO has a great community, and I think most of us would like it to stay that way.

I do not play WoW, and can honestly say...LOTRO is a very boring game, with a bad UI, cruddy animations. The landscapes and "lore" cannot save the game.,..WoW has nothing to do with that opinion...

I will agree the game is polished...but, polished in a way like a good filet of beef, but with no seasoning...the game has no flavor, and seems to duplicate the past game successes..as every piece of filet is exactly the same, unless an awesome chef takes it and makes it into something....not bland.

As a matter of fact, I think I would rather play WoW than LOTRO...

You gave your opinion, and here is mine...we all have our differences..and maybe you like bland beef...who knows..

In my opinion, I'd rather have a bland piece of filet than something like...

EQ2 for instance, which to me is nothing more than a SLOPPY JOE.  Messy and all over the place.

    Just my opinion though.

What other MMO has self-described haters continually re-trying it again, and again?  Takes an awesome MMO to get players that can't stand it to play it so many times.

    And bland beef... please!

It's not our fault your taste buds are burnt out.  It's too bad you can't taste the sweet, succulent filet mignon that it is.  Really, I do pity those who have lost such a grasp on MMO reality that they think LoTRo is bland.  It's so sad.

If you need more proof.  Let's use Google.

    LOTRO + "bland" = 12,000

    EQ2 + "bland" = 12,100

See, even Google thinks LoTRo is the least bland.

LoTRO also slightly edges out EQ II when it comes to "teh sexy"

    LoTRO teh sexy = 3540

EQ II teh sexy = 3530

As you can see, LoTRO is clearly less bland and more teh sexy than EQ II.

I like your research method Dragon

Let's all take a deep breath and realize that we're talking about games. Different people have different tastes in games. The thinly-veiled (if at all) insults are just going to end up with people getting warnings or bans.

    Understandable, Stradden.

It's just that some of us are tired of hearing the same negative opinion over and over again.  It appears in at least half of the posts here on the LOTRO forums.

LOTRO has many more pros than cons. It's polished, which I really appreciate in an MMO, can't say enough about good tech that lets you forget you are playing over the "tubes" and focus on fun. Check!

Gameplay and mechanics you can argue the design, but you can't argue they all work and are logical, and balanced for MMO noobs and vets alike (which vets may find too easy).

Classes are varied and well defined. No one seems to "do a better job then my <insert class> at  <insert class role on team>!" feelings.

Graphics are very nice, even stunning...mountains, lake..trees, and the sun setting on it all can be simply a joy (specially if you got a buzz!) to sit and view.

Crafting is perfectly reasonable and profitable starting at low levels, requires the time/grind I expect in a subscription based game. Items were good, not neccesary, but not difficult to do. I'm not really into crafting / mercantile trades.

Cons include that the game is not innovative, its designed to be an upgrade on conventional MMO structure. So if you've been playing MMO a long time, you'll instantly install and go without much of a learning curve, say 5 minutes)

Also, I disliked the chained mission set up, hated it in fact. I don't play one MMO enough anymore to be in a guild, so I rely on PuGs, so it could be really annoying to find/build a team all my level who happened to be on the exact same quest. This was before, may have changed though.

Oh, one last thing... this is the LoTRo forum.  It's not like we're saying how good LoTRo is... in the EQ2, WoW, or EvE forums.   Heh, that would be silly of us to be spending time in a forum for games we don't like or play.  Who does that?

The regulars here have no objections of people stating their opinions.  We all know that LoTRo isn't perfect.  There are only a couple of the VERY REGULAR trolls that we pick on.  But then again, we only pick on them... when they come to visit.  If they can't stand the heat...

    To the original poster:

You shouldn't call other people haters for posting negative about something and then turn around and spew a bunch of negatives about them in return.  That pretty much puts you in the same kettle as those you are trying to defame.

I am a big WoW fan for many of the same reasons you are a LOTRO fan.  However, I am also a very large LOTRO fan even though I don't play it.  It didn't exactly grab me away from WoW, but it sure is a great game in its own manner.  You hit on a point but didn't exactly detail it.   People to often confuse a game sucking and a good game that just doesn't cater to their playstyle.

There should be more MMOs of the calibre of LOTRO and WoW with various different playstyle options and less like those other games that takes years after release to get somewhere close to a release quality state.

I find both LOTRO and EQ2 to be very boring games.  At least LOTRO looks very nice, despite every other aspect of the game that I cannot stand.  I may be a casual player, but I despise games that have such a limited number of classes, races and skill sets.  I can't stand the combat mechanics, they just seem so clunky comapred to WoW.  For a game that is suppose to be so much like WoW, it sure is unfriendly to soloers.  Once you get past level 25, the solo quests become scarce and the rewards start to really suck.  If felt like 90% of the game became too group oriented by the time you reached level 30.  Couldn't make myself go past 30, the monotony of it all was too much for me.

You want to love the game, more power to you, but take off the blinders if you think this game isn't an acquired taste kind of experience.  Narrow focus, tedious gameplay, too much focus on crafting, combined with the afore mentioned faults makes it a less than spectacular game.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal

... and yet it maintains your interest. Actually, I think infatuation is more accurate. I can't think of anything else that would compel you to come here and slam it repeatedly for as long you've been doing so.
Who are you trying to kid? You're *obsessed* with this game.
Let's look at some examples why:
    1) The OP in this thread isn't even commenting on your precious EQ2. He never even *mentions* it. He specifically refers to WoW players;  a game you, yourself stated you've never played. Yet you *still* find it an opportunity to slam LoTRO.

    2) The quote beneath your avatar is dedicated to bashing LoTRO.
    3) You're clearly so bothered by people liking and speaking well of LoTRO that you even drag it into an EQ2 forum thread that has NOTHING to do with it.

Here's the comment I'm referring to:

    "
I agree that another "SOE is the devil" posts feels just like the LOTRO "OMG This game roxorzsss..." posts

    It is getting lame.."

    It's posted In This Thread.
No one else in that entire thread even *mentions* Turbine or LotRO that I saw. But poof... open pulls it out of thin air nonetheless.
    4) Your post history in this game's forums, bashing it every chance you can, using the same regurgitated talking points you've used all along.

Seems no matter what the topic, nor the setting, you find some way to bash LoTRO in it.

To reitterate: You are obsessed with LoTRO. The only alternative I can think of is you're simply starved for attention, negative or otherwise.

As a matter of fact, I think I would rather play WoW than LOTRO...

Amen to that. I don't think it's exaggerated to say many of us here would rather you play WoW instead of LotRO as well.
You gave your opinion, and here is mine...we all have our differences..and maybe you like bland beef...who knows..

First, let's be honest... What you do goes wayyy beyond "voicing an opinion".
That said, the big difference between you and those of us who like the game is we haven't developed an obvious obsession over a game we don't play and openly don't like.

I could write a 5 page essay on all the issues I had with EQ2 in my time playing it - but to what end? I got bored with the game, so I don't play it. Why am I going to waste my time on a game I haven't played in months and have little likelihood of playing in the future? At *most*, I check EQ2's forums from time to time to see what's new with it since I last played. However, I don't consistently post to remind everyone "Hi! Me again! I'm the guy who's been coming here for months and just can't stop obsessing and posting about how much I don't like this game!"

And, frankly, I would bet money that you'd be one of those telling me to stop bashing on EQ2 if I did.

On a final note... Get off the "tolerating others opinions" kick. You are one of its worst offenders.

First you make this thinly veiled slam at someone about their opinion of LoTRO:

    "
and maybe you like bland beef...who knows.."
Then only a few posts later - as soon as someone calls you on it, you pull out your hollow "but it's just my opinion!" card:

No need to attack someone due to their opinion or differences.

Hey hypocrite, you're hardly in any position to be preaching anything about attacking someone for their opinions, when you consistently fail to follow it yourself.

WoW Kids? First off not all WoW players are kids as you put it. I am in a guild in WoW of well over 60 active players few of which are under 30 I myself am 48. Second if you say LOTRO is the most polished mmo you ever have played then you must not have played to many mmos. I would bet you are new to LOTRO. You talk about it like all the new players do. Your whopping 3 posts may speak to your experience.

LOTRO is a good game. Just that, good at best. I just recently canceled my LOTRO subscription and I have been in since beta. I kept my subscription even after finding the game very boring within a few months. However I hardly logged on in months with some hope that my most anticipated mmo would somehow magically transform into the game it could have been. Funny thing, that kiddie game WoW, I am still playing and have since beta.

Whether you like WoW or not, most will say WoW is one of the most polished mmos ever. That is why so many play it. It is the king of polish not LOTRO. Oh yea, why did you have to start your post by insulting WoW players? Also, the new frontier you call LOTRO? That is a laugh, anyone who has played LOTRO even if they love it realize LOTRO is far from a new frontier. In fact it offers nothing new to mmos. LOTRO is a good game. Many love it and still do. However many more tried to love it but have left out of bordom. You are right a lot of games fail to deliver but WoW is not one of them. LOTRO is unfortunately. One more thing, if you try to say I am a LOTRO hater look at my avitar here that I use for my posts. Does it look familar? That is how much I wanted to love LOTRO, I still use my main in LOTRO to represnt me here.

Ok, you love running WoW gear hamster wheel. Some people don't, and I happen to be one of those. Persoanlly I see LOTRO as natural evolution of a product from WoW. Each to its own though, after heavilly raiding and PvP ing at WoW I came to a point where I could do meaningful things only if I was logged for more then three hours in a block. Endgame consisted of griding gear through instances/raids or through areans/bgs.

I still have a good chuckle out of WoW "lore", especially after TBC abandoned all the 20 - 60 instances in order to wipe the slate clean and offer a new hamster wheel. TWLK will do it yet again, for me that is the mentality of so called Asian grinder game but I had fun in WoW until TBC.

WoW vs LOTRO = coffee vs tea, a meaningles discussion subjected to personal tastes.

To summarize my personal taste - Sauron pwns Lich King any day of the week.
