There's very little that will keep me from wanting to play this game.

    Why I wont play it.

-I don't like the dwarf or human character art.

-The armor seen so far looks to be the same stuff for everyone in the same class.  I don't see much variation in looks in armor.

-It seems to have a very similar combat style to WoW.

    -PvE probably sucks.

    Why I will Play it

-I'm a fanboy of MMO PvP that gives me choices, and gets me in the action as soon as possible.  One of the best things in DAOC were the lvl 20 battlegrounds. (Plus the creation of lvl 20 characters if you had a max lvl character)

Warhammer lets me start PvP at lvl 5.  75% of the gameplay is all about PvP.  If want to try out a new class I can see what it is like starting at low lvl in PvP.  I don't have to grind PvE crap to reach max lvl just to see if my class is any fun in PvP.

-Epic goals that range from zone buffs to capital cities.

-I love the green skins way too much.  All the races have serious attitude.

-Collission boxes.  No more rogues running through people for backstabs.

-No predator cloaking field stealth.  I hated seeing rogues go invisible in an open field with an absolute passion.  That is not seeking.  that is just a skilless first attack.

-Squig hunters.  I love multi pet classes.

Combat seems more like Daoc to me so far.

I'm afraid you're a little behind the times on this one.

Also not quite sure what you mean by multi pet class but a squig herder doesn't get to use more than 1 squig at a time apparently

I'm not sure if I'm going to play Warhammer for the simple fact I'm tired of looking forward to it and seeing it pushed back.  While I understand and respect the devs trying to release a quality and complete product I start to wonder if this game will EVER be good enough to launch.  An old saying my grandfather used to say sums it up best: "SH*T or get off the crapper"

I signed this thread but it got burried somwhere among the posts.

Oriignally I intended on playing AoC and not touching WAR, one game as I have limited time.

Let us jsut say that after gathering more data on both options I am retracting my statement and if time permits I will try WAR.

You shouldn't cast off any game because you like another.  You should hope for the success of all games so you always have choices.

Sorry for my previous statements also in this thread.  I had just seen a video and screenshots of WAR where the UI Health/Stamina and other aspects looked exactly like WoW and it made me kind of worried about how much they were trying to appeal to the playerbase.  Arkane has straightened me out and of course i'll be playing WAR.  My issue still stands though for any game that if is dumbed down to the level of WoW I wouldn't play longer than a month.  I have however, done a lot more research and have realized that there is a lot more complexity then I had previous given this game credit for.  My earlier post in the thread was uneducated and that's my bad.  This thread should be dead though...  I'm not the one that rez'd it!

They killed off the RP servers, and gave people flags (in pink no less) that tags your name with RP. Can anyone say target for griefing and ganking? Now, I love the colour pink... but I have suspicions as to why the devs chose that colour...

Also as other posters have mentioned, it just seems like a Wowclone.

Ive really been disliking the conceptuel design of WAR so far. Theres something repulsing about the world. And i doint mean in a "good" way; like scary, creepy places where monsters roam. Its just the whole mood, i dont know, it gives me a feeling of old bad taste eastern europe or something...

But lately ive been following the Bright Wizard arche type and i must admit my fingers are getting abit tricker happy. They are just like Mages should be in WoW. Devastateting, highpowered destruction - fragil up close though...So i might actually give it a try.

"And, as a result of my willful ignorance regarding the game, the following represents the very first impression that came into my mind, from the moment the loading screen had passed, as near as I can recall it:

This looks a hell of a lot like WoW.

And it did. There was no denying it. From the low-poly engine, to the cartoony models, even the UI layout—everything had an immediate sense of… familiarity. It was nearly déjà vu… as if suddenly it were 2004, all over again.

Well, I told myself, appearances can be deceiving. Don’t judge a book by its cover, and all of that. Let’s see how it plays.

Unfortunately, this thought was very shortly thereafter followed by another: This plays a hell of a lot like WoW, too.

Once again, there was the immediate sense of familiarity. Similar skills, similar casting times, similar mana requirements… tab to target, press 1 for Blaze, repeat until dead… Replace “Blaze” with “Frostbolt” and I was already having horrid flashbacks of nearly wearing out the 1 on my keyboard through two years of heavy raiding.

Even the universal cooldown seemed to be on nearly the exact same timer."

From an article dated Jan 08.

Well actually that's exactly why I like Warhammer Fantasy universe... It is a European fantasy setting made by Europeans so it's got a different slant to it. Being an euro myself I can tell you that to my eyes most of the fantasy produced in the US (Ars Magica being a notable example) looks a total eyesore - the biggest culprit being Dungeons and Dragons settings (original Greyhawk excluded). I'm sorry guys but Forgotten Realms is a Wild West setting with some medieval themeing thrown onto it.

To me all modern fantasy looks plastic and without any real relation to real medieval architecture and world view. When I see a fantasy village or city which is spread out like an LA suburb I want to puke. Independent farmers with their settler-like mores are a total fake as well - straight out of 19th century wild west. Europe in the dark ages and renaissance had absolutely nothing of the kind - it had serfs (not much better than slaves) and their masters - the clergy and aristocracy. The cities were the refuge of wealthy merchants and craftsmen who formed tight-knit hereditary monopolies called guilds. And that's it.

Back to the subject. Warhammer's vision of renaissance europe (the Empire) is just fine. :)

So this is my reason, but to anyone not going to play Warhammer online I want to know yours.
It's a POS that from everything I have seen posted so far bears no resemblance to the minature battles nor the FRP system.

I'm saddened to see that GW has sold out to have a half assed WoW clone made instead of going for either an MMOStrategy or a MMORPG based directly off the FRP.  Sadly it will be just another waste of a good IP to satisfy the teen console monkey mentality, who won't appreciate the 2 decades of content behind what they are whining about.

Let's see - public quests, highly customizable characters, dozens of instanced battlefields instead of 4, open world PVP keep system, a loot system where you can just convert items to cash, and plenty of cool easter eggs for exploring the world.  In my mind, WAR is picking up where WOW left off - which is one of the reasons I can't wait to play it.
Every game genre has it's set "style," and I'm not sure why everyone expects MMOGs to be so different. Most shooters involve running around and killing things through your rifle scope; most real-time strategy games involve base building and unit spamming.  Let's face it - most MMOGs are going to follow the EQ/WOW model. Saying that AOC is a better game than WAR simply because of it's interface is like saying "ZOMG Crysis is such a Doom clone! I play Rainbow Six cause you can like control 4 guys instead of one!"
You can still have a very fresh and exciting gameplay experience by how things are presented. It's the little things that count the most, and I think Mythic's doing a heck of a job on nailing the details.
    same paradigms (class / level)

same old content mechanisms new flavor (quest engine)

    same honor (renown) grinds

sadly the level capped character development has just gond down hill since EQ 1

so yep it's just another EQ/WoW variant / clone / wanabe / etc

I do not plan to play for many reasons, most of which have already been listed. I mean, an RP flag? Yes, that would go well...Maybe if it were based off of 40K, I'd try it. Mix some sci-fi with the fantasy.

Just read a hands on in the PC gameplay (Belgium gamemagazine) and they weren't really impressed; game didn't seem finished, especially the enviroment looked dull and uninspiring.

In the interview in the same magazine, the dev/producer guy said they thought they could release it now, but wanted to polish it some more.

This doesn't full me with confidence.

And the game is supposedly filled with fedexs missions. No thank you.

  • elvenangelelvenangel Member Posts: 2,205

Not to discredit you or anything but how can they fully judge a game on a preview run through?   Its been obvious for a year now they're not really showing the most optimized, highest resed complete version of the game.

Previews are just that Previews....and since I haven't obviously read the article myself I can't really verify its information against all the other preview articles that are raving about the possiblities of the game.  Not to mentoin the dull and uninspiring comment sounds more like something alot of the AoC zealot fanbois (not all of them just the zealots) have been complaining about.    No offense...I'd rather the game be fun than uber beautiful..though obviously having both is a giant plus.

You can't trust just one source since there's no purely objective way to judge a game..its all subjective unless the game is obviously completely horrible like oh...Vanguard.

I haven't been following this game anymore for over months, and I agree you can't judge a game by only one preview.

If I read raving reviews when this game is out, I might still try a free trial.

There are a lot of games on the market, and coming on the market, so I have to sort out what gets my attention, and what not. A bad preview will shift my attention away from a game, simple as that.

The devs/producers not showing the best version of the game, is a stupid desicion, and again doesn't full me with confidence.

when a game isn't gold and is beta there is no such thing as the best version of the game..most companies go with the most stable version that doesn't revealing things still being kept secret.

It's not like these guys are trying to sell a product or service; so why should they show off the best aspects of the game to a magazine that has many subscribers?

It is an old fashioned idea that when you show a preview of a product it should serve as a hook or a net and reveal the best that the product has to offer - get with the times man!

Shame on you, thekid1, go post logic and reason somewhere else those sorts of things don't fly around here!

    Sounds like a reasonable statement.

But if the most stable version lookes dull and uninspiring, and the producers/devs state they could launch the game, but they want to polish it up some more..

Then I stick to my previous statement; this doesn't fill me with confidence.

whatever floats your boat mate...when it comes to art and inspiration its usually best to judge whats available after release not before.

I won't BE playing, because the art style doesn't interest me and I don't trust EA. After they've ruined 2 of my favorite titles. I am done with any EA product.. for good. Yes I hold grudges.. they're worse then SOE.

GO GO NARUTOOOOOOOOOOOO! (Your avatar). Lol. I don't really care about EA one way or another, unless they manage to screw this up, but that's fine.

The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

The same language that allows you to write without proper capitalization, without using apostrophes with contractions, without using periods or commas, while using a dash instead of a double-dash to replicate the proper em-dash.

And yet, amazingly, you can still be understood. If you can't understand the intent of the OP, then I'd say it's not the language, it's your mental capabilities. From now on, might I suggest Dick and Jane for your reading pleasure?
