If the game really does come out in 2008, well wont that be suprising!
Maybe alot of the Elitest fans can say there instead of on forums then? I suspect they will if any part of what DF promises is not in game, will be their only hiding place.

I think if DF ever gets released it won't be the be-all-end-all of the MMO space. Aventurine doesn't have the resources to promote the product, but I suspect the product itself will be very profitable for them. And it will probably push their team into the lime-light of game developers. My hope is that, in this hypothetical, that developers take notice that such ideas are not impossible nor necessarily illogical to fulfill. Sure, it means having three or four possible major feature sets for a game title, but then if you're doing to do that you might as well reconsider the game as a game of games and not just a single self-contained title. In some ways, this is much like what happened at the late 1970s, where module programming hit its logical end and OOP was finally getting hinted at as a practical reality in development. Which really means DF, published or not, is a hinting that single feature set games are ending to be the end-all-be-all in kind.

/nail-on-the-head-analogy but, I will feel bad for the devs who feel they have to 1up Adventurine and spend 6 - ?? years on a new project. Maybe they should focus less on perfecting the games they make and start perfecting the tools they use to make games? Your average joe could probably make a game with WoW-like production values with 'Super MMO Engine 50.'

Not really. The majority of software products are internally tested, so it does follow that they use a Q/A testing team on their products, plus AI can be tested against a number of possible conditions that map out all possible states that the given AI can exhibit, thus thousands of players doing the same thing is not cost effective when you can do the same with maybe ten systems, plus the world server and a load of scripts (hint: you don't need the graphical client to check this either, so you can run through scripts 24/7 over thousands of passes to see if any oddity pops up and is logged). AI in this case, probably won't be beyond Crysis-quality, but it will probably be close in some respects. That's if the devs are on the level. I can't say they are so I can only state what I've said is based on other developers and how they work: a house of 'cards' (assumptions) that only need one pulled out for the rest to fall.

i almost would have believed you if they never posted this quote from their dev journal #25
"Something that Darkfall has that other games may lack during testing is help from the AI. In Darkfall the game doesn't really distinguish between a player and the AI. The AI are bots actually living their life and skilling up within the game. The AI has been helping us test a large part of the game almost as if players were in it."
hmmmm...sounds like not a big group of testers in the game i say.
Darkfall in a couple of months...... oh yeah, its coming out the same week as Duke Nukem Forever, right?
Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me.

Actually, quotation in question makes sense to me. Basically, what they're doing is letting the AI program to follow through procedures that make them part of an environment rather than just a combat AI sitting and waiting for a PC to trip it. It seems hard to implement, but not impossible. If they pull it off, I know some folks at MIT that will be begging for them to teach there.

Where were you when I was looking on eharmony!? I mean I've never done that, heh. Yeah that does seem pretty groundbreaking, I'm not 100% sure how that would work but then again this whole project seems farcical, from an objective (and hopeful) standpoint.
1.) Why aren' the developers promoting this game more? Why aren't they showing off this game to everyone who can see it to build hype and momentum for the 2008 launch? I mean, they ARE trying to make money, right? The point of developing a game for nearly a decade would be to walk away a millionaire...
2.) Are they the only company in the world with the technology to self-Beta their AI Bots? I've never heard of any other MMO having this ability.
3.) Credibility, If I had spent years developing a game and so many people questioned my credibiliity, or whether my game even exists at all, I would certainly want to prove them wrong with at least some form of the game going public...
Is Darkfall a scam? They don't defend the game much, they don't try to improve their credibility, they don't really do much but put out a dev journal every now and then. I REALLY want to play the "idea" of Darkfall, but so much of my intuition tell me that this is a hoax, a scam, or they just aren't competent. The developers could EASILY prove the doubters wrong by demonstrating a working version of this game, which they claim is feature complete, to anyone.
For all we know this could be 3 or 4 guys over in Greece pulling a major hoax on the world just to get a laugh.
I hope you are not this stupid.... They have announced a release date every year for 5 years. This is just too funny. How about you show me videos of how the raids are better than WoW, and the PvP is better than WAR, and the graphics greater than Conan, or how the sea battles are better than PotBS. Also, I wouldn't mind if you throw in a video of a 500v500 player battle. laff
Umm, the raids suck in WOW, the pvp sucks in WAR, the graphics for AOC, well there nice but rest of that game sucks, and the battles in potbs, lets not even go there
Naval combat better than Pirate of the Burning Sea
Better graphics than Age of Conan
Better pvp than Warhammer
Unlimited freedom, you can do almost everything you want in the game. Thasos said they will release a video of the game maybe this year.
WoW!
Does the game also show you how to be a lose all the weight you want without dieting or exercise and shows you how to make 40k in one month in your spare time?
i olove darkfall (im a fanboy of it) but this guy is a dumb ass......better graphics than AoC??? since when ive played AoC and looked at DF screen shots a million times and i can tell you for sure that AOC GRAPHICS ARE BETTER
also just so you know if they dont make there 2008 time frame then they will be competing against mortal online
We are in the middle of 2008 and you people believe there is a chance of them making ANYTHING within 2008? Without ANY promotion? Not even a single appearance in GCs? Ever? So, the odds for them actually presenting anything within 2008 is slimmer than making Alliens contact under SETI. The only DF mmo you ever gonna play is what you play right now: a character based mud played on these forums... for years and years.
Darkfail is alledgedly begin worked on by a 20 man part time team in Greece. Darkfail has been developed for as long as the 21st century is old. Darkfail doesn't have a closed beta so if a miracle happens and it gets released this side of 2010, it will perform like a spastic on ectasy. Adventurine hasn't released any tangible evidence that Darkfail even exists, screenshots and letting a couple of friendly fournalists watch you play an anonymous demo in Greece doesn't = an MMORPG (Sigil did the exact same to Microsoft until they got smoked). I don't need to prove Darkfail is vapourware, the onus is upon the fanbois to produce real tangible evidence that this game exists in any shape or form. For all I know Darkfail could just be an investment scam, I see no evidence to the contrary!
No, it's not. Why does anyone have to prove anything prove anything to you? Who are you?? Your just another one of chte countless trolls who come here to bash darkfall, why? Well like most of the trolls admitted you find it amusing. How sad and boring your life must be if THIS is how you get your kicks.
Im not a fanboi mind you, after the D&L disaster im very sceptical about DF, however I find it silly that you think ANYONE has to prove ANYTHING to you. Who are you again? That's right nobody from nowhere

Each one of us is nobody from nowhere who doesn't matter. But take all of us nobodies from nowhere, and combine us, and together we are the Anonymous Gaming Customer Potential that mmos aim to get as customers. You, the couple dozen DF fanboi followers, are not enough to flesh out a world of this nature, you need us... the customer potential ,who demand more than vague promises and pretty pre-rendered still imagery or videos or whatever. And (much to some of our chagrin) we the masses apparently are not fans of free for all open PVP full loot rulesets, or skillfully done lack of leveling and other typical mmo rpg facets. Witness if you will the typically small ratio of pvp to pve servers on most mmos in existance.
Now add to that a world that is supposedly bigger than dnl (going off the OP's post), and one has to wonder.. will one see other players most of the time? Will there be a 500x500 battle, if the players are spread out across the board in small clan groups of 10-100 or whatever? Remember, "niche" style games generally have a much less sizable fan base.
And lastly.. if the makers of this DF think having numbers and underscores available in your nicknames as a selling point.. Thats... unbelievably silly, to put it mildly.

I think someone pissed in Steve's Cherios. That aint right! I might be lashing out too.
Not sure why you'd think that. Im perfectly calm and collect right now. If anything I pity people like catizone and Zorvan
While the fanboi's of DF might just be a bit naive and close-minded, the trolls are absolutely pathetic. The fanboi's come here in hopes of a dream game and it may blind them a lil but this IS a forum for a game THEY want.

It's a game forum about an mmo that is supposedly in development, people who come here largely do so to discuss and argue about mmo's. Guess what, that doesn't exclude this one, freaky eh?
All in all the minority here are most likely those that believe the game isn't vw. So discussions as to the validity of its existance is going to be a rather prime subject on forums dedicated to it, no?

Here are some MAJOR concerns about Darkfall:
