If its a wipe I wont come back. I had all 5 lands harvest at level 250. No way in heck would I do that over in the same lifetime. I love to dig and craft but jeez was that brutal.

You play to have a good time; if you don't spend your time in Ryzom you will spend it in another game. Now all dependes what you like more Ryzom or your game.

I'm honestly hoping it will be a wipe for several reasons.

    1) Everyone starts on an equal playing field all over again, enduring the harsh environments and reliving the days most of us old-timers have the best memories of. When we had to work togheter to achieve things that seem so obvious when you have a couple masters. Who will supply better gear and fast enough to allow others to progress at a steady pace? Who will make it to other lands? Who will manage to control a higher level Outpost? When will the first supremes be dug?

    2) It would allow time for the new company to settle in, and get to work on fixing/adding what was still left out.

    3) Skill levels don't mean a lot; it's wisdom and experience gained that count. I might have to work hard to get all my craft and forage levels there again, but I still have my recipes and knowledge on crafting.

But it would indeed depend on what agreement was made on the purchase I suppose.

You would so be back....There is no way that you would let Moonie get all 5 masters in harvest before you could.

You just don't want to go through all the foraging, knowing very well you'd have to deal with my presence again in those dark, almost pitch black, scary Prime Roots where Vorax breath down your neck and every Kincher screams 'Hug me!'. :D

I can't fathom a reason someone would intentionally wipe the servers before handing it off to the new company, unless there's a rogue janitor. So I assume there won't be a wipe.

But the ultimate fact is that we just don't know.

Best thing for Ryzom is a fresh start. They need to run an advertisement blitz of  a new launch and attract a lot of old school players who are disgruntled with all the new release crap that's out there.

Wipe, or no wipe. I will be back! Sometimes the journey is the thing you remember the most.

I don't think it's a question of why the game company would want to wipe (you're right, it makes no sense) but why some players would want a wipe.

And call me a cynic, but my guess is that old favourite - tall poppy syndrome. They couldn't catch up to older players before so why not take this opportunity to suggest dragging them all back down to their level. A "fresh start" is a nice spin.

I think the new owners would be insane to even think of it. To begin with, Ryzom has changed ownership before. This is no different. There's no reason why player data should have been lost.

So if Ryzom re-opens and there has been a wipe.... no matter what story they present us with, many would believe that they deliberately wiped the player database as an underhanded means of extending the game's longevity. Why create new content or improve the game if they can just make everyone play it all over again?

I wasn't all that high a level - 150'ish in a few combat/harvesting/crafting schools - and could get back there in a couple of months. But if they announce there's been a wipe, I'd have to wonder about what other dinky stuff they'd do later and if I really wanted to be around for it.

thing is with ryzom is you should never have tall poppy syndrome, mastering 1 melee takes less than 3 weeks if you grind, by then you can mix it with the best, mastering the other skills then becomes just a matter of time.

more masters = more options not more uber characters imo

    Agree.

And about the wipe, at this moment the klients login works with our accounts, so the account database is up and running at moment.

wipe or not im gona wipe anyway once again :D

Yeah i'm starting fresh to take it all in.  When i'm away from a game for a long time and I come back I always start fresh at first.  Like FFXI I always pick a new job to level from scratch, or roll a new char in other games.  I do this at least until I am completely faimiliar with the game so i'm not one of those high levels running around confused.

Ummmm.... I'll happily sing the praises of this game. It's a great game, really. But you think that anyone who plays it is exempted from the silliness otherwise endemic to our species?

    For real?

People who play Ryzom are totally immune to jealousy?

Maybe the marketing campaign for the re-released Ryzom should claim it cures baldness..... oh oh oh and impotence too. I'd love to get some spam from the Kami telling me how hanging out on Atys can help me please my woman....

    But seriously...

While Ryzom's community is a cut above the rest, it isn't perfect. Not everyone who plays Ryzom is just killing time waiting for their halos to be polished. And besides, some skills, eg. harvesting/crafting take a pretty serious investment of time to master.

Players wanting a fresh start - like some in this thread have suggested, they can delete their own characters and start new ones, if that's what they want. Suggesting the entire player database be wiped.... that's something else.

A character wipe with outposts in place would ensure a very, very hostile community.

If there is a wipe, outposts or at least xp crystals should be wiped off of Atys as well.

Mod in Klients this morning said that they are making sure to take precautions and get the game back up right so that players didn't lose their characters.  They said their was no guarantee but it seems like they are trying to keep the old characters.  Actually it seemed like that was what was holding them up at the moment.  I wish they'd just wipe everything and get the servers back up, but I know that would hurt a lot of people.
