They crushed him with money, and now will bankrupt this man until he has lost everything. This doesn't encourage others to free think and create anything. This oppresses the people. Why would anyone bother to create anything anymore when as soon as they do a billion dollar corp comes in a crushes them in court until they lose their house, car, and dog for using their brain. Like it or not. The programmer of Glider is a very intelligent man, and made a program that has MANY more uses than just botting. That doesn't matter now because that just got stripped from him.
I hope heavy claims follow that actually do bankrupt him.
He does not only violate EULA, he knowingly violated copyright laws.
He makes a profit out of violating laws.
He disrupts a huge virtual environment and influences every player in the game by knowingly providing tools to disrupt the server.
He profits from other people's work.
He continued to distribute the program even after Blizzard had filed a lawsuit against him, for which he is charged too now.
I hope he goes bankrupt and Blizzard demands as much as they can.
It's like this.
The digital world is like the real world.
Companies like Blizzard are no different than the Government of the world. Setup to oppress it's people, when in reality they were suppose to protect them.
Then you have hackers that act like any of the organizations in the real world who fight against the government, fight against oppression and fight for freedom.
The government may be more powerful than these freedom fighters, just as companies like Blizzard are more powerful than the hackers.
However you will never stomp them out, they will ALWAYS fight the power. They won't stop until the freedom is realized.
That's just truth.
Wow Neonaka, you really live in your own reality if you think that governments are out to oppress people. If you think Anarchy would be better where there are no rules and people do what they feel like you'd be in for a real eye opener if you ever lived in such a world. Hacking/violating copy right is against the law for a reason, to protect people and their rights. every private server out there is stealing not only intellectual property but real money from the folks at Blizzard who made this great game that we enjoy. If you enjoy their hard work then you have the moral obligation to pay them for their work. Their may always be hackers but you don't fight them then you'd be saying thats its ok to hack and thats when we really would start descending into anarchy.
It's like this. The digital world is like the real world. Companies like Blizzard are no different than the Government of the world. This speech smells like 16 year old kids on sugar, after seeing "The life of Che" on CBS...
Fighting the power is an EXCUSE that lame people use to be able to get illegal advantadges over the others.
You will not find a single hacker, botter, that wont act like he is BETTER then everyone else.
He will insult, hack, destroy, screw, over the sake of "fighting the freedom", in infact he is only trying to get an edge over the others, so he can "pwn".
No matter what you say, 'we' know this is like that, only the bot users believe diferently.
You wont have you "revolution", normal people will always be against you, simply because you are wrong, and are using excuses.
You think if everyone agreed with using bots, companies (this case, Blizzard) would do something against it?
You cant blame them... blame us!
edit: make no mistake, i'm active against the opression created by comercial corporations... it's just that, you are wrong. And, i hope you dont know you are wrong, that way ignorance can be an excuse... altought it shouldnt.
For those who don't know how glider works, glider sets up a series of "ghost mouse" key clicks on your screen. Think of it as an overlay for computer monitor. A plastic sheet if you will, that covers your screen.
Ok then lets say you took a marker and put dots on that sheet where you wanted your mouse to click. and you took a sheet of paper and you wrote down how often and at what times you wanted these dots or clicks to occur on the plastic sheet.
Ok so hopefully you have that visualized.
Then you load up a program, in this case we are talking about wow.
You window mode wow and you make it the same size as the plastic sheet. and you have all these dots on the sheet that tell your mouse to click in certain spots.
You wrote a script housed on your client side. Your personal pc, that says ok click my mouse at all these points at these specific times. Press these keys at these times. and so on.
You turn on your script and they start clicking away.
This overlay does not send anything to blizzard servers, this script does nothing to the in-game what-so-ever.
All the info you want this script to do is on your pc. It has nothing to do with blizzard at all.
OH but what it can do is rename it filename when an Intruder (wow warden) starts scanning your personal files on your personal computer. It can rename itself to whatever it wants. So unwanted intruders to your network cannot determine what type of file it is.
OK so now you know how glider works, and you thinks it's OK for a judge to tell me I can't write a script, house it on MY computer and do whatever in the hell I want with it. It isn't malicious, it does nothing to blizzards servers or software, nothing to code, it is just a ghost mouse script I use to press some keys and mouse clicks.
Yeah that sounds fair to me.
What it really sounds like is one of my freedoms as a human being with free thought just got stripped away from me. That is what it sounds like.
Guess that guy out on the street that robs people and steals cars is just a freedom fighter trying to over throw the oppressive government one citizen at a time....lol...what an idiot.
In games you buy the game, then see the eula, but you cant get a refund if you don't agree.
You are absolutely 100% wrong. It says right in the EULA that if you choose NOT to agree, you can return the software to Blizzard for FULL refund.
"2. Service and Terms of Use. As mentioned above, you must accept the Terms of Use in order to access the Service to play the Game. The Terms of Use agreement governs all aspects of game play. You may view the Terms of Use by visiting the following website: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/legal/termsofuse.shtml. If you do not agree with the Terms of Use, then (a) you may not register for an Account to play the Game, and (b) you may call (800)757-7707 within thirty (30) days after the original purchase to arrange to return the Game and to request a full refund of the purchase price. Once you accept the License Agreement and the Terms of Use, you will no longer be eligible for a refund. "
Freedom is an illusion. Humans have never and will never be free. You are an idiot if you think they will or can. Humans by nature are self destructive. Ultimate freedom leads to unltimate destruction.
As to the lawsuit blizzard would get crap because he could just declare bankruptcy if they wanted too much money and a civil lawsuit against an individual at that point goes bye bye.
As to the program running on your system. That is fine but once you connect to Blizzards servers you are not on your system. You are now a terminal for Blizzard thus bound by Blizzard's rules. As said before if you do not like it do not be a terminal and use your superior skills to build your own game to play.
Thought squids had to have more brains than roughnecks, but odviously not.
It's like this. The digital world is like the real world. Companies like Blizzard are no different than the Government of the world. Sorry thats a bunch of BS. Blizzard is trying to protect both itself and the interests of the majority of its player base. Hackers aren't freedom fighters they are simply petty crooks (or in the worst cases terrorists )out to break the laws and gain power for themselves weither by pirating, gold farming, or getting a edge in whats supposed to be a level playing field. Hackers aren't about helping anyone else they are simply about helping themselves.
Well even still this does nothing. Hackers are like the viruses they create. They are like a cell. You stop one and five more will pop up in it's place. If you think no one is going to create a new improved and better glider based off this guys work, you would be wrong. If Blizzard thinks they can ever stop the hackers of the world. They are mistaken as well. Glider is just 1 of 2 very good bot programs for wow. The 2nd of the set is so bad ass that warden can't even see it. It works, and is used by thousands of players daily.
It doesn't matter in games or other aspects of the digital world. Hackers exist to fight the system. They do so very well. They will be around for as long as we type on keyboards. This stops nothing.
What you fail to understand is that shutting one down, makes all the others a little bit easier to shut down. Blizzard just has to sue each of them and they all get a little worried that they might lose in a court of law and suddenly it makes more sense to just shut down and find someone else to make money off of then fight Blizzard. It doesn't stop them yet, but it gets them one step closer to stopping them. You have to take these things a step at a time. It's like a snowball going downhill. As each win piles up, it becomes harder and harder to stop it.
For those who don't know how glider works, glider sets up a series of "ghost mouse" key clicks on your screen. Think of it as an overlay for computer monitor. So.... that means that if I don't use Glider and don't want to play someone $25 for a 3rd party program I need to sit at my computer for 5 hours a night to do the same thing that someone with Glider can do while he's out doing something else. How is that fair to me? When I play a game with other players everyone should be on equal footing. You could make the same agrument that a professional athelete should have the right to dope up to gain an advatage since its only effecting their own bodies.
Not saying I support bott'ing (because I don't), but how much further out can we be from Blizzard vs some of the mod's that automate some ingame activities (such as mod's that watch the AH for pricing trends and such)? And then will they go after multi-boxers as well?
I think it's good to nuke something that completely removes the human factor from gameplay, but I am directly opposed to Blizzard having any rights whatsoever to look at the system I'm playing on and the contents (software/hardware). I have not done any type of deep dive on this, but I certainly would like to know %100 of where they look and what they look at on my box. Outside of sending Blizzard crash logs and giving them a reason for client software failure, I don't think they need to know what I have on my system.
The license agreement should protect the customer (gamer) just as much as it protects the corporation and their software.
OK so now you know how glider works, and you thinks it's OK for a judge to tell me I can't write a script, house it on MY computer and do whatever in the hell I want with it. You're absolutely correct that it does nothing to Blizzard's servers. It's still against the Terms of Service agreement, which you agreed to, to be able to use WoW. So you have a choice. Run your script and don't play WoW or play WoW and don't run your script. You're choice. I don't see what is so hard to comprehend. If you think it's illegal for Blizzard to say you can't run your script while WoW is running, well the judge just disagreed with you.
Wait wait..did he just make fun of people that play the game to advance when he went out downloaded a program so that his computer could play the game for him while he was away so that he could be just as cool as the people he mocked?
Anarchy is the only way. Actually the only true way to start all this crazy ass non-sense over is a complete wipe out. Full blown destruction of it all. Which is coming btw. I for 1 am looking forward to it. Maybe we can get it right the 2nd time around. If not we can all just kill ourselves again.
I think it's good to nuke something that completely removes the human factor from gameplay, but I am directly opposed to Blizzard having any rights whatsoever to look at the system I'm playing on and the contents (software/hardware).
Then do not ever read the rights you give Microsoft via Windows installation....that is scary!!
On topic though: Go Blizzard!! Botting and scripting programs are ruining the game and I for one, applaud any effort to ban anyone who does not want to play the game. I know some people that have so many programs or addons that they hardly even play the game anymore. All they do is run around where they are told too and its mind-numbing. I have always thought that WOW has too many potential addons and they really need to reel some of them in.
I am just glad that this is a victory for those of us who actually play the game and abide by the rules and actually enjoy the game as is.
Yeah, well... I know all about Micro$oft. I think the world knows about Micro$oft. And yes, it is scary.
But overall..
Botting (to me) would be like... having my computer take my college classes for me, then I get the degree.
Sure, it would take talent to write the AI that would allow the computer to essentially 'bot' your college classes.... but that's not the way the system is supposed to work.
If I pay my $200,000 and get my degree, and you pay your $200,000 (+$25 for bot) and you get yours... how does that impact me? Because while I would have actually attended classes and earned my degree, you wouldn't have. Then, when you get into the workforce, your lack of knowledge would bring down the value of a degree from the college I attended. Especially if 100,000 people were to take the bot-route to their degree... the diploma from that college would essentially become 'worthless'. Furthermore, someone would've essentially become very wealthy while destroying a school.
Not saying I support bott'ing (because I don't), but how much further out can we be from Blizzard vs some of the mod's that automate some ingame activities (such as mod's that watch the AH for pricing trends and such)? And then will they go after multi-boxers as well?
You mean other than the fact that Blizzard has already stated countless times that these are completely within the TOS and EULA and acceptable? Yes Multi-boxing is acceptable as long as it's not automated.
Rofl i love how everyone signs off their rights to Blizzard, bunch of fools.
God forbid someone uses their brain to grind for them in a game rather than their sheer mind numbing stupidity of repetitive drone clicking in game.
Best part of it all is, you all shun and flame someone for using their intellegence instead of them being a drone like yourselves.
YAY AMERICA~!
If that is your opinion when why do you play the game. As in all games it has rules if you do not like the rules you do not play the game or go make up your own game.
Here is a question. Why do people think they have a god given right to play a game? What makes someone think that because a game is created by someone else they have a right to play that game anyway they want to?
Anarchy is the only way. Actually the only true way to start all this crazy ass non-sense over is a complete wipe out. Full blown destruction of it all. Which is coming btw. I for 1 am looking forward to it. Maybe we can get it right the 2nd time around. If not we can all just kill ourselves again.
Omg... lol
LOL. You, my dear friend, need to watch less TV and read more books. Or you could just hunker down in your safe room and wait for the end to come. Either way who cares.
All this shit got blown out of proportion really fast. People used glider because they had a life. I used it, so I could mow the yard, go out to dinner with the wife, feed the dog, play ball with the kids, and still advance my character levels while not actually being at the computer.
Ok, now we are getting to the heart of the matter. You used it and would like to continue to use it and don't like the fact that Blizzard is taking steps to shut it down. Fair enough, but lets stop with all the talk about it infringing on your rights and all the other BS that you brought into this argument.
Believe me, I understand where you're coming from. My own son got his account shut down in the last big ban by Blizzard. When I talked to him, he admitted using the software and I told him well you got caught and you knew it was against the TOS and knew the chance you were taking. He was okay with it as was I. He's not a bad kid, he just didn't want to spend the time that was required to level his character up to 70 so he used a shortcut and got caught and lost the priviledge of playing. He has since started a 2nd account and is playing bot free. Maybe he has learned a lesson.
At the end of the day, it's Blizzards software and their game. So, if they have stated it's okay... then I'm fine with that. I'd just like to see it in writing with a little more detail (from them) on what methods of multi-boxing they accept.
Really, I'd like that in writing to protect me... because I multi-box in WoW and have in other games as well.

He has since started a 2nd account and is playing bot free. Maybe he has learned a lesson.
You mean other than the fact that Blizzard has already stated countless times that these are completely within the TOS and EULA and acceptable? Yes Multi-boxing is acceptable as long as it's not automated.
