Well, I gues it is possible developing a game in 4 years. They just took about 3 years for the gfx and 1 year for the coding, at least thats what it looks like.

The last boxed mmorpg I bought was WoW, which I quit at release before the trial month was even up.  Before that it was EQ2/SWG/Horizons, and before that, DAoC/EQ/UO.  I can easily say that Sony/Blizzard (yes I love War3 though and looking forwards to Diablo 3/SC2, however those aren't mmorpgs ;) ) taught me a valuable lesson.  NEVER BUY a mmorpg release, since it will always be hyped by the fanbois.  It's just simple math.  Wait a few months and let the dust settle.  Vanguard, wanted to play it, didn't buy it, saved me at least 50 bucks.  Same with LoTR (which is somewhat good, but not for my taste), Lineage 2, etc.  Though I want to play Warhammer, since I didn't get in the beta, I will just wait a few months and see how it goes out.

What I'm noticing is that these companies ALL prey on the hype o meter, to get as many sales as possible.  There is no justification to pay 50 bucks for a game to have access to it for a month.  Simply put, people seem to be getting dumber and dumber.  How can you justify 50 bucks for some PoS that's just hype.  Unless it's EVE, all these games can be hit at later times, since there is a 'ceiling' of 'leetness'.  I am willing to bypass end game access for a few months, to NOT have to beta test all these mmorpgs as they come out.  Most of them proven vaporware for the most part.

I would rather let YOU beta test releases, and I will join in if it's fun after a few months.  For example, AoC, never played it, thought about it, but no chance I was gonna buy into the hype.  Now?  Glad I never touched it.

Well, my server still reports a medium load when I play, whatever that means.  However the noob zones are pretty much dead, in fact so is the one I've been working this week (field of the dead) so maybe everyones busy enjoying the endgame.

Can't say what my future for the game will be..probably cancel once get into the grind levels of 60-80

    Heyas,

Funcom had removed the individual server capacity (low, medium & high) load status that initially existed. All servers reflect a medium population now. IIRC it was global, whether it's changed for some or not, I'm unsure. My server select screen continues to show medium, across the board.

Not entirely sure why it was done, not sure I would believe the explanation.

    Take care..

Reason is that you are always in an instance.   Soon as there are 100 or so people in one, another opens up.   That way its never too crowded, but you can't judge the pop without looking at how many instances are open.

im not trying to troll, and i am a loyal fanboy of this game, but seriously the forums 'mod'hammer is out of control.

why is there so much to hide, why now? we all know the exec producers failings and untruths but why are they killing off whats left of the loyal community by smashing so many forum threads?

its a soap opera...that we pay for

its amazing that many coders havent left this sinking ship while they still have some street cred left

    whoa to that last post^^^

what server do you play on, cause ive never seen a population like that, half these servers are empty

  • Deto123Deto123 Member Posts: 689

Lol Avery the AOC correspondant. Of course theres still people playing, but it s far from the huge success  the fanboys were claiming. Hell i d be suprised if theres more then 100k left.

Some of the post defending Funcom and saying the people posting are the problem are freaking amazing. So if a company puts out a product that doesn't perform like they said it would and the customer doesn't like it for that reason and he/she warns other customers not to buy it, it's the customers fault that the product is in the situation it is.........are you serious? lol

All of the "haters" (people that actually care imo) could never step foot in another AoC forum again, and it wouldn't get any better.  Funcom is systematically destroying itself.

At least the "haters" stop other people from buying the game and becoming "haters" themselves.

avery. i think that actually works against you.  everyone has alt fever.  That just proves you have a tiny guild and a crapload of missing players.

I think it is also funny, you didnt finish posting the list.

if i still had my account, i could post a guild list 10x that size with the same amount of people logged in.

I agree with you about some of the mods there, way out of line sometimes in my opinion. Some are good a few are bad yes. I think they need to be a little more "human" with their responses sometimes.

Course your right about people still playing, and that it released far from what the "supa" fan's were claiming. It turned out great in some area's and a let down in others.

And my guild post was just taken, its not spin, its actually in the game right now. All the guild battlekeeps have guilds similar or bigger size, some right up to the 999 guild cap. Then there is the general public too. This is the truth on my server, Cimmeria, as it was from release. I know in good detail 2 more servers who are just the same as having ties with those guilds. Can't speak for all. The funny thing is out of the 300 odd people we have about 5 have xfire, the program caused conflict with the game at release. Thats just the truth from my point of view too.

Rest of list is Alts thats why :) - showing people still regularly play the game that is all. We have couple dozen people leave the guild to join another to help out and they will be back later after a Siege. Thanks to FC not having a proper alliance system in place.

Just find it funny to the OP just made account here and then went on a mission with like a 100 posts in a few days and new avatar.

    AoC is dead argument:

As much as some people want it, I doubt AoC will die any time soon. Or Funcom for that matter. This is a company that was kept alive for the most part by AO, which is a minisqule game compared to the giant MMOs of today. AoC doesn't seem that it will ever be what it could have been, but it won't die.

    Everyone has quit:

An over exageration at best. Given the content that was presented, the initial sales was just a bubble primed to burst. And it did burst. Some people act so surprised, it's hilarious. Eventually the subscription numbers will stabilise to what the game can sustain given the current content. It won't be anywhere near the initial subscription numbers, but on the other hand, everyone has definitely not quit.

    Forums are mayhem:

I would say one thing. Better to at least have forums where the pitchfork crowd roams about, than have no forums at all. As for the forums themselves, it all depends on the usage. Some people are just content wth frustration vending. Others are looking for community bonding and some for game info and ideas. What do you think a normal player (not ex player) would want forums to work as a primary function?

Having said all that, I'm one of the crowd that stopped the subscription when I realised that one of "my" key features would not be implemented any time soon. I did not join however the pitchfork crowd, because I did what I was advising people back when AoC was still in beta phase. I had and have a fall-back MMO plus other activities that keep me occuppied and content. AoC didn't meet my expectations, I was prepared for the posibility.

Two months from now the pitchfork crowd will move to WAR and all this nonsense will start all over again. And people forget today and praise LOTRO for the updates, but back during the launch, the pitchfork crowd was crying murder for the lack of content past a certain level. It's like a never ending circle for the short span memory people.

Avery, is that list also over a month old like the population charts that you posted on this forum in another thread were?  We don't know when you took that screenshot.  It could be a month old for all we know, you've already tried to pull a fast one doing the very same thing before.

Also, a lot of players on that list had not logged on in many days, some almost a month.

    Doesn't prove much either way.

AoC isn't that bad, it just isn't that good.  I'm also a Dark Templar, and I'm STILL waiting for a reason to enjoy my "class"...  But I cancelled my account so it really is a moot point I suppose.

Each to their own, FYI go check out Cimmeria for health.

What is needed are lots of resources to maintain and repair keeps. Not even counting the stuff needed to get there. A lot of unorganised guilds fall short here. Yes in AoC it can be tough to maintain your keep and build it up in the first place - I mean at least it is not just handed to you. It takes time and TLC.

As guild rivalry builds up there will be merges for the sake of backstabbing, there will be merges of guilds whose partial playes move on, there will be merges of guilds who can't take the whole building of a city and keep.

To presume the game is dead on this basis is like shouting you won the lottery and finding your read the last number on the ticket wrong. Premature..

Funny thing is there are twice as many people in my guild who are playing and having fun then there are here complaining the game is dead. There are plenty of people in the game having fun - why don't people log in and do a guild search - members for them pop up.

The censorship on the AOC forums reached epidemic levels today with the minute-by-minute deletion of a hammering of quitting posts, and systematic censorship of all critical posts exposing Funcom's total lack of progress to try to save a contentless and terminally bugged, dying game.
Seems like everyone has realised their feedback just goes into the trash, there will be no major overhaul of the game, and that the player base is extremely small already.
There's also been a remarkable rise in the fanboy/shill population: Funcom apologists who have suddenly appeared to replace the critical posts with the notion that "today's patch was good" when it contained nothing but 3 small bugfixes while all the game content is still not there.
Clearly Funcom sold the game on the back of features that simply don't exist. They get called out on it, but those who criticise their posts have their posts deleted and infractions to their account.
Soon to come: server merges, server shutdowns and quite possibly a whimpering end to one of the most entertainingly botched yet strangely Orwellian MMO releases ever made

What you wanne gain by this if you have quit game, leave it at that, no use keep bashing it ive quit to and move on.

In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.

Uh, that the AoC forums is moderated is actually good, when morons trolls the forums with the same opinions 50 times something has to be done. There is a lot of negative posts still there, the mods just kills of the useless flamewars... A forum is useless if you cant find any helpfull threads 'cause it is 10 trolls for everyone with a point.

Like this thread, totaly useless. AoC still have more players than LOTRO or EQ2 or whatever... Not as many as Wow or Guildwars of course. Can't understand why so many people hate a game, don't you have anything better to do?
