Played SWG for about 2 1/2 but finally left after the NGE wiped out my old guild. Just got the fre month email so decided to see what was going in the game. Logged in (Kettemoor server), went back to my old houses and bunkers looked around at my stuff, then set out find some people. Not 1 person from friends list online. Literally travelled to every planet, counted 6 people that i found. 6!!!!!
Talked to some guy in game, and asked if wanted all my stuff as I wasnt gonna actually pay SOE to hang out with 6 other people. have houses full of stuff, Jtpack deeds, resources, etc. He said "No Thanks" this was his last day as well.
honestly, how much longer can they keep this game going?

I have a noob toon on that server and would gladly help you get rid of your things if you don't want em.

Try using the new search tool, you can select people by profession and makes it easy to find people, even on the deadest of servers (Kauri) I can find over a hundred toons online just about anytime.
Since you just came back to the game, just note that people do not hang out in the same places we used to. One reason is with a spaceship you can go from any starport to any starport, so no need to go to Coronet first to be able to go to Yavin 4 from Tatooine. Makes a big difference.
Could you do me a favor and post a screenshot of 100 people online on Kauri?
Even still saying you can find 100 people online at any time is laughable compared to the days of logging in and Going to Cnet and seeing over 200 people running around there and bunches of people in the Cantina.
Yeah, its pretty sad these days I guess. First MMO I ever played that really felt Massively Multiplayer. Alas, not any more.
I logged in for free after three years. I went to every major starport that I could go to and walked around. In four hours I found five people. Plus the game was very laggy and the new controls sucked really bad.
There is no doubt that there are too many servers that are hurting. I won't defend that. But take a moment to log into Starsider or Bria. One of the larger servers during the evening. The population on those servers have been steadily growing via transfers as well as new players.
The bottom line is that the new dev team is doing a pretty good job of scraping up the pieces and making SWG fun again. Of course it is still not the same fun as it was before the NGE but it is becoming fun again nonetheless.
I am still excited over KoTOR MMO thoughts though.

So SOE should get a pass just because they tricked players into forking over $50 to transfer to Starsider or Bria?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHahaha... omg that was funny, good one.
On my free month back, I logged on the only server I played on, the very Kauri you speak of, went to EVERY single star port and city in the entire game during prime time, and found 5 total people, only 4 of them were afk.
How do people blatantly lie like this?
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
So SOE should get a pass just because they tricked players into forking over $50 to transfer to Starsider or Bria?
I never said they should get a pass. I am saying that the game is going in a good direction. Devs have said they are working on a solution to the low-population servers.

The population of SWG is not growing at all, in fact it is shrinking very fast. The increase you see on those two servers is the others dying and only the hardcore ones are moving to those two servers. You see an increase but really it is just people moving from dead or severly injured servers to the final stand.
I can guarantee that when those other servers are completely dead and shut down you will start to see a steadily declining population on both Starsider and Bria. The game currently as it stands isn't fun, isn't engaging and certainly doesn't have an MMO feeling to it like it was in the days of Pre-CU/NGE.
So I have a question, knowing that server merges will never happen...
Why not just inform the community that x/y/z servers are shutting down to increase the populations of the others. To provide an incentive for those players on the closing servers to move over (actually create new characters), they are entitled to 1-2 months of free play and given x worth of credits as compensation, maybe some special items as well?
Or are there too many accounts on the other servers, risking additional looses of subs?
Reason is, this makes sense to me in shutting down servers. The choice is either a slow death from the bleeding of an open wound, or cut off the bleeding limb to stop the bleeding?
People like to play in populated servers, as that helps build communities, not in empty places (well no one is here, so I guess I'll quit too).
And that is why...
Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.

I beg to differ. I have helped a lot of new players recently with legacy and piloting.
((If any of you find yourself on Starsider and need help from an Imperial pilot you can look Lucais up. I like helping pilots))

Depends on the server,I play on Bloodfin and Bria and they are both bustling with folks. It is sad that not all the servers are like Bloodfin and Bria,It really makes you wonder why after 2 years they still refuse to open some classic servers .In the 2 months since I have returned I have seen alot of growth on my servers maybe if they continue to improve the game it will begin to grow again.
What they are facing in the merging of servers is the loss of virtual real estate... server specific resources etc. There are some vets on the empty servers that are clinging to what they have built so the devs are stuck with looking for a solution.
A dev has posted that they are actively working on a solution to solve the obvious problem of the low-population servers.

The answer from SOE is total BS. All of the resources and crafted goods are just entries in a database. Companies merge databases all the time...if they really cared about providing a good experience for their players they would hire some DBAs and get to work.

So... Do you just come here to post and hate on SWG? I have a few threads around here and have noticed that you have nothing but unbridled and venomous hatred.
Your attitude is not unwarranted but is it really conductive? Do you really have nothing else to do then to counter every positive post about SWG with hate?
There are lots of other games out there if you cannot stand the thought of this one.

Not to mention, apparently SOE allows AFK farming now, they see nothing wrong with it at all. So some of the people who may see online, arent even really there, yippeeee!
SWG should be put to rest. Just end it, what a pathetic ending to what was truly a great game.
Has there ever been a greater fail by a MMO than what SOE did to SWG? Honest question.
Man... I am serious. If you want to give away your stuff... I still play that failure of an MMO. Until KoTOR hits that is.
I love me some Star Wars and MMO's... what can I do?

Off the top of my head, let's see:
Tabula Rasa
Roma Victor
Vanguard
Hellgate London
And that Car Racing MMO, I forget the name that shut down a year after it launched.

None of those games launched, stuck around for a couple years and then completely changed the fundamental gameplay in a massively greedy attempt to chase WoW.

Attempting to chase WoW's success was a huge error. SOE lost loads of subs over it. The old game is gone and won't be back. There are positives and negatives to that. The game that is there now is under an entirely new set of devs and while it is not as good as the skill point system that was there it is going in a good direction.
The game is picking up from the abyss it hit from the NGE and is slowly and steadily regrowing. Some of the people that were majorly put out by the NGE will never come back around and I cannot fault their reasons for deciding not to.
However, if you do not regularly play the game in the form it is now you really have no place in telling people who enjoy it that they are wrong and all attempts to keep trying to tell them that their opinion is wrong is nothing short of petty vengence against SOE.

None of those were fairly successful games based upon the largest IP in the history of licensing, then, out of sheer stupidity, completely changes the game. alienating their customers, and lost more than half their playerbase in one idiotic move.
Sorry, none of those comes close.

He has every right to say whatever he wants. He has every place to say whatever he wants. As long as this country is free it is always one's place to speak one's mind. Plus, it is easy to check the state of the game -- enough free passes are given out so anyone may try it.
As someone who still plays the game on a fairly regular basis, I'm sorry, I don't see any real turn around. A couple of servers are doing well -- the rest of the place is dying. Every step they take forward, they take two steps back. They still do not care about customer effort, still feel it is okay to erase past achievement by players -- in short they still do not know how to advance a persistent world in a professional manner.
They are failures, plain and simple. They don't know what they are doing. People have every right tp get what enjoyment they can out of it -- I certainly do -- but the game is still a mess.

I recognize that name from the forums. Being a long-time vet I know your opinion lol. I'm not going to argue with you here. We have had enough there and I respect your knowledge. I just see things differently. A long time ago I had to let the old game go. Like you, I am a die-hard Star Wars geek. I can't log in and play a game that I am miserable and pissed off about so I let the old game go.
The current team has been left with the dubious task of working with the mess that was given to them and I believe 100% that they are doing well working with what they where given. The population is a mess without a doubt and will never get back to what it was. However, I also believe that is on an upcreep.
I am an optimist here. I dig MMO's and I love Star Wars so I am making lemonade out of the lemons we have been given.

I agree with you here since my return 2 months ago I noticed the customer service is even worse than pre-cu,back then you had in game csr's and you could make a ticket in game, now it takes you completely out of game and you have to wait for a response form who knows. I am still having fun with the game ,but SOE customer service is the worst of any game period.
