Within my first several hours of playing WAR, I'd helped take a keep, defended it, shot people with catapults and a ballista, poured boiling oil on a battering ram, killed a dragon, leveled almost entirely on pvp, stuck dwarf heads on pikes, and kicked an elf in the nuts so hard he died. I'd call that some pretty damn satisfying gameplay.
You killed a Hydra.. .not a dragon..
and you basically defeated your own purpose with your own post..
You did everything that's fun in WAR within a few hours... there's only a few more things to do...
The only thing left to do is the same thing over and over and over again...

I'd call that some pretty damn satisfying gameplay. In AoC I never even saw a keep siege in my whole time in that game, only a few on my server had. I chopped people's heads off. Fun the first few times. No thanks. For a pvper, imho, it's simple. If you don't get xp for player kills, I don't want to play. Have fun grinding mindless boring quests (yes, in conan you will literally kill 5 wolves to get their tails), I'll be leveling up and having fun doing it. Imho, when your game's project lead resigns citing game failings, you can't exactly go talking smack. AoC is always going to have it's niche, but from where I'm sitting it has far more failings than warhammer.
There's a reason some will go to any length to bash another game at this point, read back 1-2 pages on this board you'll know what I'm referring to.
Personally if I'm going to cite a problem I have with a given game, I'm going to try and be as fair about it as possible. Warhammer just isn't my cup of tea, AOC isn't the greatest either however I find I enjoy it a little more.
I'm speaking as a long time pvper, I started out in DAOC in 02 then SWG 03 then eve 04. The XP gimmick wasn't enough to win me over in WAR, the consequence is to weak IMO. Resulting in (IMO) stagnant world PVP. By that I mean players return to battle much to easily, pay an npc right beside your rez area and your off. The battle is only a hop a skip and a jump away. SO you never actually seem to defeat the other side, until they get bored.
The second issue is along the same lines, static objectives.
At least in AOC a group of players can own something, fight over it and lose it, not as big a consequence as losing a high end ship in Eve or a jedi in pre-cu galaxies. At least it's something that you have to work for and you can lose. To me it adds an element not found in games like WOW or WAR. Other than that I have no complaints about WAR, it's a well made game and highly polished.

No, I defeated sunlathir the fire dragon. Thanks though!
As far as content goes, the pvp is what I came for, I could care less about pve adventures. RvR keeps only get bigger and better as your tier increases, and no they don't have any of the actual city sieges until then so you're still wrong. Regardless, even if it was still the same thing, it's more fun than I had in AoC.
I wouldn't go to "any length" to bash AoC, i enjoyed it quite a bit. Just not nearly as much as war, and my point in citing gaute's derparting was simply to say those in glass houses, well. Yeah.
As far as rewarding pvp, you can own keeps in WAR as well. The mechanic is different, but it's there. Gain it, fight over it, lose it. But then, the value of that's all in the eye of the beholder. As much as "owning" places in-game sounds great, that gets stagnant, too. We've all seen the desolate wasteland of abandoned homes outside any major SWG city, even though many used to be contested pvp areas.
As for objectives not in other games, the RvR aspect of the home city sieges provides a communal objective that all players in each realm work towards (and provides a feeling of that shared goal) that few, if any other mmos do.

It's just as relevant as the subject you brought up, mass market appeal is no proof a game is the best in every area. Which is what you seemed to be saying. What you're certainly saying is, because you feel those games are better we can't compare them. That's some seriously flawed logic, and just as I thought you dislike the bare bones of what AOC is.
It's not wow and it was never intended to be wow, I really think you need to get over that. Besides if WOW's what you seek it's still going strong (with an expansion on the horizon), war seems to be doing great as well. Why are you so concerned about AOC, you obviously will never play it again?
No one's arguing the game is anything like WOW or WAR, there's no reason for you to be over here arguing that it's not wow, it looks silly. It's just as silly to be over here saying a game sucks (for months), when there are things you obviously enjoy available else where. The game wasn't designed with your tastes in mind, why not leave it at that? Blizzard certainly doesn't need your help with marketing, they're doing quite well.
First off Fanboy's keep bringing up WoW, not me. WoW was not just a mass-market success: almost every hardcore gamer from PC Gamer to Hard OCP that ever reviewed WoW enjoyed the game on one level or another. Your broad characterization of WoW as simply a "game for dummies" is an epic fail on every level. The fact that WoW appeals to both hardcore gamers as well as casual gamers does not make it a mass-market-only game such as you suggest. In fact, if it were it never would have enjoyed the continued and unprecedented success that it still achieves to this day.
As far as your argument that "no ones arguing the game is anything like WOW or WAR", I never brought up WoW, yet fanboy's of AOC continually try to bring it up in almost every post. You are 100% wrong in saying that "No one's arguing the game is anything like WOW or WAR, there's no reason for you to be over here arguing that it's not wow, it looks silly", fanboys here continually bring up WoW and WAR, just as you are now. From the second I started playing AoC, and continuing on today, there were and are people bashing WoW. The fact is AoC sucks on so many levels that there is no need for me or anyone else to bring WoW into the picture: AoC is not anywhere near the level of game that WoW is.
Thirdly, I'm certainly no marketing agent for Blizzard. As a matter of fact, not only have I quit playing WOW month's ago, I will go on record that I do not like the direction that WoW has been going since the release of BC. I not only no longer play WoW, but have no intentions of ever going back. That does not diminish, however, my love and respect for the game that Blizzard created. I enjoyed my time in WoW immensily, and pity the few MMO players that didn't get the chance to enjoy WoW such as I did. As far as being silly for saying a game sucks for months? Maybe you're right. However, as much as I love the game that Blizzard created, I doubly hate the game that Funcom created, from it's poor treatment of customers to it's lack of any ability to successfully produce a MMO, to it's complete and utter lack of ability to create a world based on REH's Conan, I hate Funcom. I have never seen a company so willing to not only produce a poor product, but to lie to and continually try to decieve it's customers as Funcom has. As someone who grew up reading REH's Conan books, I am offended to the core by everything that Funcom has done with Conan. So, that is why I just don't "leave it at that", I hate Funcom with a passion and hope that not only AoC fails, but that Funcom goes out of buisiness forever.

Its funny when someone knocks you by saying youve done everything in a pvp game when their pvp game was released in a sub-par condition and THEY will be doing the same thing over and over. Hypocracy for the win.
All of the various scenarios and RVR in WAR and still people try to defend AOC's lackluster record.
OP, nice to see you coming back to AoC. I'm not a fan of cartoon graphic and so I never bothered with WoW and won't bother with WAR either. The latest AoC patch has fixed a lot of bugs (no more grey map for example) and implemented the first stage of the PVP system. My biggest issue with AoC was the bugs and now with the latest patch I can start enjoying some well awaited PVP without crashing out of the game. Good work FC and it's about time (only 4 months late :P)
War runs very smoothly on my laptop even. AoC is something else entirely, it is bug filled full of unexplained freezes and lag. Even on my Dual graphic card desktop.WAR is fun like DAOC with a large player base. AoC was just not fun especially after level 40

You are trying to hard mate... (so many level this, so many level that... epic win epic fail.. blablabla).. Dude you lost me when you said I hate FUNCOM... No why would you do that. If you had many problems with the game or you just did not like it, but "hate" ... that is a pretty strong word in gaming context. All this other stuff you write just turn your post into an emotional mess with absolutely no objectivity.
Let me comment on WAR though... WAR is a WOW clone according to 80% of the people I have discussed this with. That is not a bad thing though... But I will not play it cause I do not like WOW and I also heard that WAR is really slow in the beginning and has quite afew teething issues as other MMO's at launch.
War runs very smoothly on my laptop even. AoC is something else entirely, it is bug filled full of unexplained freezes and lag. Even on my Dual graphic card desktop.WAR is fun like DAOC with a large player base. AoC was just not fun especially after level 40
Are these comments based on pre patch 2.0 or post patch 2.0 experience?

The only epic fail here would be you putting words in my mouth. I've never said wow was for dummies, reread my post.
As for the rest of this, get a grip man. You're floating all over, I couldn't even follow most of that to a comprehensive point. Sounds like you're reading far to much into peoples statements or take them far to personally. It's either that or you feel the need to dictate others opinions.
As for WOW yes it's by and large a well made game. I don't think I've seen anyone say otherwise. However, that doesn't mean I or others can't find fun else where. Which is exactly why I question how you approach others opinions here.

To OP you are not the only one... There are quite a few of these threads in the AoC forums.. Wlecome back to the grown ups
I am so sick of seeing this statement. "AoC is a game for adults" is so completely untrue. I don't even play WAR but this statement just pisses me off, it's something that delusional people say to make themselves feel better.
Oh and when you say "quite a few of these threads" you mean one thread. This one.
I looked for more but I didn't see any more "I cancelled WAR and am back to AoC" threads, but while looking for them i did see about 20 threads asking for server merges.

be careful because everytime you say something truthful a fanboys head explodes and an AOC moderator kills a puppy

I just couldnt help this but, ive never seen anyone shoot through walls or ever been able to shoot through terrain or obstacles or anything in WAR, ive seen you make several posts saying this and its utter crap. Sieges may be working great for you, and the few that can play them, when you can play them. In WAR today I did 12 sieges.
In khaines embrace, any level that lets you in. In the tunnels with the part that comes out to the middle, I've been stood there not attacking and no one in the tunnel and several times I'm getting hit thru the solid wall from people on the outside shooting not from the enterance but all the way thru it. Even seen the purple spells hitting me coming thru the wall itself. You know when you run around the back when both points are locked down and eplosion happens the big rocks there - bam, spells right thru them. Here is a map if you havent played it : pc.ign.com/dor/objects/748723/warhammer-online/images/warhammer-online-age-of-reckoning-20080915034131616.html
Please go see for yourselve im not making it up for the fun of it. Yes I am well aware as previously stated that AoC has mass bugs at release, just want to point out in war these two seem to be normal gameplay. The first issue is auto target where im targetted thru the wall or bolder and the game doesnt take into account whats in the way, the second is clear space and a clocked invisible wall blocks you in the middle of the camp. There are several other issues I have and I really do hope and I am sure they will get fixed up in Warhammer, just like many have in AoC.
Thats nice doing 12 sieges, did you have to go out and get the resources to build them back up again / repair / craft? Fundamental difference between the two games - they are different.
Oh I almost forgot - what about the loading screen after you die in War RvR scenario?? not that it bothers me, as its there in AoC - wonder if those same ppl made a fuss when played AoC do now in War?
Unlike you I actually play the game and don't judge from what Ive seen from a beta, and I know what Khaine's Embrace is seeing ive played it about 100 times on both sides, with different classes and never once seen this bug your on about, not like AoC ever had this bug eh?
It is nice doing 12 sieges isnt it? While your grinding away for that one siege battle you may do this time some century, lots of people are enjoying siegeing without the fluff and the need to be max lv to be effective.
Btw, the loading screen takes all of 2 seconds, wow. A real pathetic dig at a much better game.
Why? Combat and graphics. As far as in corcerned, when people talk about next generation, or steps beyond the norm WAR is past and present, AoC is the future. When i compare AoC melee combat, ranged combat, animations, character movement, atmosphere, graphics....all of it is better than WAR. Makes me think....Funcom you released to early, you had nothing to fear.
Not even a good try. Did you know that even in the 1st-2nd month after launch there would be more 45+ level content and a PVP patch coming? Yeah AoC is one of the very very few that can pull off a LIE, cheat steal and take your money say their telling the truth to come back and say sorry and now not even PROMISE a date when you can expect anything.
Yeah your one of the smart ones. You KNOW a good thing when you see it huh.
Yes AoC has next gen, animations character movement and the like I 100% agree. But MOST people wont be lied to over and over and then just come back like nothing happened. You still get problems at level 45+ with content. You still have MAJOR problems at lvl 80. Where are all these battles? You cant have them with out GUILDS and LOTS of people. Just read the froums where you see someone posting one or two coming back you read "my server is dead" and such. For AoC to really take off you need PEOPLE. It was all about PVP not PVE!.
Oh you forgot to say.. you still look like everyone else at lvl 40 as you did at lvl 10. But the combat is the best and the graphics and thats more important huh..

I take it that you played the game lately and did not like it...
Or did you just cut and paste you comments from 2 weeks after launch. To me, which actually is a gamer and leader of a huge guild in AoC, you are wrong on most points.. I will not dispute however that FC is bad on deadlines.. They are simply not able to get things in the press at required date.

I am still playing the game, time is running out though, my 4 month adventure of pain and misery is about to end. It is seriously worse than it appeared to me while in Open Beta. It is irrepairable, like I said, and it's all wishful thinking this game recovers.
It had an awesome support system, I do not deny.
It had neither meaningful PVE w/ rewards, nor PVP, nor Active Role-playing (on Corinthia at least), nor items or decoration, nor means for travel aside of teleporting, nor socialization in parties, nor friends, nor enemies, nor anything you have to expect from an MMOG.
It had Tortage only fun for that only time, when you sigh with relief after downloading a 13gb installed.
Moving on is just not enough. I had to register here to just have a say at what this game is wrong about.
And if you ask my opinion, any game would never ever recover from such a dire damage directly done by her management and developers. I wish it hadn't.

Two weeks, two months, it doesnt really matter. They havent had time to change the mistakes they made to the core of the game so it doesnt really matter. We wont even go into how long it would take to mend fences with the customers that they wronged in various ways.

Im with you as I find WAR much more enjoyable.
To each his own I guess.

Irrellavent. If we were talking about teen pop music successes, Britney is an amazing success. So what?

Now, that was easy wasn't it?
Are these comments based on pre patch 2.0 or post patch 2.0 experience?
after trying warhammer I will burn my age of conan Cds and seriously consider not coming back to wow once wotlk hits the stores

Hey, just give me a new graphics card and i'll play Age of Conan
I am so sick of seeing this statement. "AoC is a game for adults" is so completely untrue. I don't even play WAR but this statement just pisses me off, it's something that delusional people say to make themselves feel better.
Oh and when you say "quite a few of these threads" you mean one thread. This one.
forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php
I looked for more but I didn't see any more "I cancelled WAR and am back to AoC" threads, but while looking for them i did see about 20 threads asking for server merges.

be careful because everytime you say something truthful a fanboys head explodes and an AOC moderator kills a puppy

LMAO
Anyway... Off topic discussion overboard... Why do you think the OP want to fire up AoC again after testing out WAR?
This picture: http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/article/910/910296/warhammer-online-age-of-reckoning-20080915034048428.jpg Shows the camp - right behind the player there are barricades knee high you go to jump them as obvious you can and you hit an invisible wall and have to use the main front enterance and walk in.

I am very confident the ship has long since sunk.

Two weeks, two months, it doesnt really matter. They havent had time to change the mistakes they made to the core of the game so it doesnt really matter. We wont even go into how long it would take to mend fences with the customers that they wronged in various ways.
