Love the part about it being hard to test because there is no linear progression and the players can go so many ways. OMFG I am excited about that. I literally quit WAR after 5 days because of the handholding in the quests.

90 percent of the people out there will curl up into the fetal position and hit cancel.
After all the years of WoWesque spoon feeding, I doubt most players will do anything but meltdown the first time they get ganked and all their gear taken from them.
Solo players, you will have no home here, youll get manhandled by guilds that roll with lots of numbers.
Thats how it works in FFA pvp, go take a look at shadowbane, perfect example, very little room for the solo players, you are just fodder for the people who are smarter and rove in groups.
I expect most of these "fans" will quit sooner than later, provided it actually releases in some playable form.

So Evasia, are you a dev or a paid beta tester? You must be one or the other to be able to speak so definitively about DF and what it will be like.
I'm just waiting for 1 person on the internets to actually get into beta and give a review. So far DF "beta" has been going since April and we still can't find a soul, outside of the developers, who claims to have played the game. 8 months of beta and we still know jack. Why do you fantrolls expect anything will change after Nov 10th?

I agree that many will try out and quit after week or maybe 2 weeks, but its mentioned manytimes by me and many others Darkfall is hardcore sandbox with full loot pvp so its nich market.

Also you get posibillity to try game out before buying, thats not bad for most i think before actually buying game.

Actually I hope they go live with the same confidence of Chronicles of Spellborn (I just hyped the game, and this will be the last time I make a comment about it since I don't mean to blow up anything I haven't played). What I mean by that is, go live with a trial, if you like it, sub up.
At this point I have a hard time thinking that they will be able to do anything other than an online client purchase/trial anyway. I don't think a company this size will be able to place boxes on the shelves in as many markets as they claim to be releasing.

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.
Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside
Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.
Yes is niche, but niche is not 50K.
With the ever growing MMORPG market, nowadays a sandbox PvP niche is at least 300K which is not such a shabby number.
NO ONE of Darkfall fans said it will be the next big thing (although it would be for many of us)
It will do well, that's what people is saying.
The only people who think Darkfall is aiming to bthe mass market are the haters, which create the rumor and then try to discredit it................................
My prediction is that the game will have 200K aat launch and will grow steadily if the game is as good as the FAQs describe it.
If it doesn't maches the FAQs it could fail, but let's wait til after launch before judging it.

I tell you why.
As everyone mentioned already, DF will be a niche game (Aventurine knows that, and they are not going around kidding everyone, even less the publishers).
Being a niche game it is extremely difficult to find a US partner interested in distributing a game which per definition is not aimed to mass market.
DF could be a surprise and sell a lot, but it is a very risky investment for distributors.
Even in EU, the publisher is not exactly Ubisoft or Codemasters...............
In the end they did find a distributor for the US, but to be honest I don't know how good it is, and if you will be able to find the box in all (or some) major retasilers.
Aventurine alone don't have the economic power or knowledge to self-publish in US.
Luckily there is the internet, they will offer the game through digital download.
I know many would prefer having the box, but if people like DF in the end doesn't really matter.
I live in UK (EU) but I ll buy the digital download, like I do for almost all my MMORPGs, I don't have a problem with it.

Who cares if its on the shelves, most gamers prefer digital download distribution, and its very possible this is the way they will distribute also.

If EVE can do well, so can this game. This is the game for the EVE players that want ffa pvp but no longer want to roleplay as a spaceship.

What? Several of devs worked in publishing before they started developming DF, and they have said many times they are able to self publish if needed. But yeah i think they will do digital download distribution also.
Digital Download is a kind of publishing...............therefore if Aventurine says that will be able to publish it themselves, that's what they meant.............
Also we were talking about the box distribution in US, even if some devs have experience in distribution, I doubt they will have enough knowledge and links in US to distribute the boxes themselves.

Something similar has been posted a few times in years passed. I don't think people who don't have much hope in DF's release will not believe anything until it is actually released.
Also, I'm not too sure about their ability to self publish because they said one of their main reasons for not releasing yet is they could not find a publisher and had no way to publish. They have kind of been contradicting themselves through the years.
You can't blame people for doubting darkfall's release. I doubt it from false promises throughout the years, but I still hope it does release, lol.
