    Germany

    • Austria

    • Switzerland

    • France

    • The Netherlands

    • Belgium

    • Luxembourg

    • Sweden

    • Norway

    • Denmark

    • Finland

As you can see the like's of Spain and Italy are not on the list.
Like I said this hasnt been made official yet but if it is then this is just going from bad to worse.

And many more European countries are not listed. How many Europen countries are there? And how long is the list? Is it not just that many European countries will have no distributor, which is not a big deal when you can download the game?

    Unless...brrr...let's not speculate about that.

It is nice you try to defend the game at every turn but like I said nothing is officail yet the only thing we do know is that countries that are not on the list are being redirected to the Acclaim site,I am not going to speculate to anything until I hear it from Mirage or Banshee but at the moment it does sound good,I am sure even you can agree to that.

here is a paste  from the TCoS forums

and confirms not being able to import the game or anything

    Banshee posted it:

well as far as i could read out off his post he didn't mention that ip's would be banned. just that there isn't any official support for it.

so as long as i can import my game and play on the European servers i am happy

    ----------------------------------------------------------

No, you cannot import game and play on European servers.

If you live in the countries covered by Frogster/Mindscape/French publisher, you can play only on EU servers. If you are not living in those countries, you cannot play on these servers.

If you live in territories covered by Acclaim, you can play only on Acclaim servers. If you are not living in those countries, you cannot play on these servers.

If you do not live in either of those countries, you will have to wait till we come up with some solution, but you won't be able to play neither on EU, neither on Acclaim servers - at least not on 27th of November.

its a sad day... now i have to wait for darkfall

Here is another post from Banshee which points out that the listed 11 countries in Europe will be on the same server's but maybe the rest of Europe(excluding the UK ofc)cant play on those server's.

I will try to put this as clear as I can:

European servers are countries covered by Mindscape/Frogster/New Unannounced FR publisher. All those countries will have access to same pool of servers.

The countries are: Germany; Austria; Switzerland; France; The Netherlands; Belgium; Luxembourg; Sweden; Norway; Denmark; Finland.

Release date: 27th of November. (28th for Mindscape territories, France tbc)

Acclaim territories are North America, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and South America. They will connect to Acclaim servers.

    Beta start: 27th of November.

    Release date: January 2009

The rest are countries not listed under European servers and Acclaim territories. At this point it is unclear who will provide service for those countries and they won't be able to create an account on 27th of November. We are looking for the possibilities, however at this point I don't have more information on the matter.

This is very sad news. I went from a very happy and satisfied beta tester to a very disappointed lost customer.

Bye Bye Spellborn. Your game were fantastic, but I cant support this decision.

Please sign if you feel the same or at least support the idea.
    Thanks guys.

I don't wanna play with the EU in particular tbh... what I wanna know will I be able to be able with the US?

If not, being limited to the UK is a good thing to me.

At least UK at this point knows they will have a server to play on. I live in the rest of Europe (~35 or so countries) and we don't get to play anywhere. These guys seem like they don't even want our money...

Taking a very unknown and niche game and making it even more niche does not seem like a good idea to me.

But what do I know, I'm just a consumer who was ready to give Spellborn some of my money, until this decision, at least.

Well after the latest posts on the official forum it is pretty much(if not)100% at least the UK guys wont be on the EU server's,11 countires will as for the other 37 countries(?) it isnt certain they will be either.

I really enjoyed being part of the offical forums and posting what info I could on this and other forums but I wont be playing the game now,I do still wish the title all the best, only because the devs and mods are really nice people and I hope they at least get some reward for all there hard work.

As for me and this game,I guess all I can do is leave you with a song.

Wow...hard to believe they screwed up the launch this bad. Releasing to 11 countries? WTH were they thinking? This game was the only game in the near future I was looking forward to. Now just this plain stupidity of this launch has also made me shy away from it.

Well guess I been a couple years without a decent MMO to play...what is a couple more years?

Really like the game (finally something different), really sad I won't be able to play... There is no way I'm going to play on US servers... all my friends are in Portugal and I'm in the UK... MMOs are a way of keeping in touch...

Count me in, this decision is stupid.

Even i was trying to make people know about this game in several spanish gaming forums, i imagine they dont want our money.

Agree...Aion looks like the next game of choice. I had told my wife she was buying me 'TCoS' as a Christmas gift. Guess I will hafta settle for that 'Buck Rodgers of the 21st Century' series DVD set n wait till next year for Aion.

I'm a non-UK European, I don't play with people from the UK on a regular base and I somehow don't feel like I will be playing on non-Euro servers.

Still, the decision to force people to play on the servers they may play on according to the publishers' whim is going to have an impact on me. If for no other reason than it certainly hurting game sales and thus, in the long run, the survivability of the game altogether.

Now, I should be happy, shouldn't I? At least this should mean that no china farmers will invade my server either and I should finally be spared of the "buy gold cheap" spam. But first, I feel they will somehow find a way to do it regardless, and second, it's a minor nuisance compared with playing for a year or two and then going away empty handed because the game failed as a financical success because it lacks players.

And this is what will happen when this strategy is upheld.

MMOs are amongst the most expensive, if not the most expensive, project you can do in the field of computer games. They also can be the most profitable ones due to recurring income instead of single sales. But only if you have people playing it. Or at least paying for it.

MMOs are, if anything, a social kind of game. People even keep subscribing and playing long after they actually lose interest because "their guild needs them". Now, MMOs didn't come into existance yesterday, there are already guilds in existance. Guilds that cross country borders or even span continents. In some games, it was even more or less a necessity to have players from all over the globe, e.g. because you needed people 24/7 to defend your castles or area against rival players, which you can't do sensibly if 99% of your players hail from the same country.

So player groups that cross borders and continents do exist. And they move from game to game together. Not all, of course, and usually not without good reason, but since a few games are currently folding or in a rather sorry state, player guilds are looking for a new home. As is my guild right now. And they will want to continue playing together.

If a game does not offer that option, they will not choose this game. And that's not one lost sale, it's a dozen, or rather a few dozen of copies and subscriptions, that go to another MMO.

as much as im no big fan of acclaim, maybe it would have been better to launch (western)world completely under acclaim.

id really be interested to see an interview with the devs on this matter because the situation as it is now cant really make them happy. from my understanding as they are a very small company they had troubles to find a publisher at all and it hints to a situation where it seems rasther tough to introduce a mmo to the market if you arent alreaddy a heaviweight gaming company...

I've been looking forward to TCoS for years, but if this IP banning stays in place, I won't even be playing the trial.

I don't think it's a case of deciding what's best for players. It's all about money, distribution rights, localization and stuff. It's probably a case of the publisher (Acclaim) saying (just a wild guess): "If we get distribution rights for NA, we want UK too, or else we won't do it".

Anyway, it definitely IS an early warning sign that publishers (not so much the devs in this case, I think) don't care about players.

This whole UK/EU split is one of the worst ideas I have seen recently, apart from the pricing scheme of Hellgate. It's over the top, and it completely ignores any common sense. I wish TCoS good luck. They will need it.

Well tbh i was looking forward to this game but in no way i am going to play this game anylonger due to mismanagements. I can't play with my uk-friends, you can't have my money.

Just to add , if anyone is thinking of playing spellborn this server setup will effect you no matter where you come from. So please if you care about this game and about keeping the community together then please visit the spellborn official forums at   tcos.com/sbforum/viewtopic.php and sign the petition there also.

    Thankyou.

well i played another game where ppl got splited like this. its called 2Moons(also published by acclaim)  in north america and Dekaron in europe. at the beginning there was just 2Moons and the game seemed very big and populated. later a european company (gametribe) bought the right to publish it in europe and so both sides began to ip block the other ones. well and now im playin the europe version and it feels like a private server. there is just one server and everyone know eachother.

i always loved mmos because u can play with ppl all over the world but it seems that more and more devs sellin their games to different publishers. i was realy lookin forward to play this game especially since im in the closed beta but now this game is dead to me.

ps: deadlight im also waitin for aion. and its good to see that aion will be published by the same company which developed it so there wont be any splitin i hope.

  • Saurus930Saurus930 Member Posts: 115

This was surely not a smart move, the open beta that started yesterday felt pretty empty. I think I saw 10 different players during that hour I played. No talking in the channels what so ever. Very different from the Closed Beta. They made such an expensive mistake

I'm in the United States, and as much as i love to play with all the people from the UK.

/signed  for one of the worst fricken ideas ever.

And seriously who the fuck let's Acclaim... i mean ACCLAIM... publish their game. That alone makes me not even want to touch Spellborn. It would mean, i wouldn't have to deal with Acclaim.

Suck's to, cause this game looks fun and refreshing... from all the crap that's out there right now. *sigh* guess im just going to have to suck it up and try it out lol.

     Whatever happend to "Choice".

Why must we, the players, keep getting badly planned ideas down our throats? I was looking forward to TCoS. But at this rate they can forget about it.

Whatever happened to the global community idea? It seems only Sony Online Entertainment still bothers with giving people choice.
