Since we know the MMORPG.com staff has seen the OP's request I think it would be best to close this thread and take further off-point discussion to PMs.

    Sorry Craig, you're right there.

I simply hate the way things are goings these days, and I'd be a fool if I didn't recognise that influence upon my opinion.

I'm just a dinosaur missing the days when websites were about a single topic. I found things far easier to follow without pictures of peoples cat litter trays, or their opinions on how Obama styles his hair.

I'd give you a big hug if I could and tell you that my way is the right way, but I appreciate that evolution is the key in this world where cockroaches are learning how to read :(

Hey, noone asks for my threads to be locked but me.

As long as we can keep the thread civil, I would prefer this topic not be left by the wayside and any continuing developments in regards to this site getting into the beta be regularly updated.

I agree...there is no reason to lock this thread as long as it stays on topic.  Especially since the staff was nice enough to give us a lightning fast response to Zorvan's request.

  • Thank you Originalrgg I some how missed that one that is what I was looking for. Now I want to play this game even more

    Telbar,

If sincere (it is so hard to tell these days) you are very welcome.  There has been a wave of new info lately and it can definitely be hard to miss certain things if you arent a hardcore fanboi.  Things are looking up for sure.

Especially if this thread leads to a MMORPG.com hands on review of the game.

The underlined part is the issue. This is my one big beef with the game, and why soooo many still think Darkfall is vaporware. For some strange reason known only to the devs at Adventurine they are absolutely PETRAFIED of letting objective, unscreened, uncensored, unbiased, people into the game.

EVERYTHING we see, is carefully selected, checked, picked over, and planned.

The game is less than 5 weeks from supposed release, yet the only way a third party can review their game is at the location? Did anyone else just hear the red alert tone from star trek go off?

Why can they only view it at the location? I thought beta was well under way? So you can let random people in... but you cant let a journalist do it? Why? Whats the big secret? Whats the big problem? THIS is why so many people like myself are soooo skeptical. The game smells like somethings up and the devs seem unwilling to fix this.

Give IGN, MMORPG.com, Gamespy, Gameinformer SOMEONE thats impartial and has some clout access so they can put these rumors to rest. We have heard the spin, we have heard the fanbois, we have heard supposed people who have seen the game that no one has ever heard of. Now... lets get some real people that gamers know and trust to toucht he game, play it, unrestrained FROM their homes, and get the info out there.

The only reason they arent doing this is

#1 the have something to hide

#2 they are absolute idiots and have no idea how to market a game

Doing this is the single best form of free publicity they could do. Expecting a reviewer to expense the trip to greece just to get monitored access to a game... is simply insane.

Okay, first: let's keep it civil in this thread, Pyro. I don't want the vaporware/not vaporware argument in here, this thread isn't for that. This also means insults ( at the devs and otherwise ) shall be refrained from in this thread, also.

Second, I agree that there is no reason why mmorpg.com ( or any site for that matter ) should have to travel to Greece in order to play in the closed beta. Unless Tasos has paid for every one of the testers to come live there while they play the game, or all the testers are rich, then the testers are accessing the beta from their own computers in their own homes over the internet like testers for every other mmorpg known to man. Which means there is a client which can be downloaded, patched, and played.

So I do not expect "have to go to Greece to play it" to be recieved as a valid excuse for keeping this sites reviewer out.

I think that it is quite likely that some of the German or French media will go and take a look so hopefully we should have more impartial news soon.

  • skeaserskeaser Member RarePosts: 4,208

I think it would be good for MMORPG to get their hands on DF, but flying to Athens will probably cost a pretty penny.

As far as the arguments about ads...they don't bother me. Keep the ads as they are (out of the way) and it's gravy.

Just like to add, since I neglected to do so earlier, a big "Thank you" to Craig ( Admin ) for coming into my little thread here. I figured the highest up I'd get would be Jon but instead I got the head honcho himself.

No problemo...just luck really, I happened to see it on the home page "recent posts" section and was intrigued.  Admittedly I don't have time to hang out on the forums much these days, so I probably miss a lot of topics like this (that may be a good thing, lol).

I am always happy to help people understand the workings of MMORPG.com.

Athens would be a long stretch for us just to see one developer - but perhaps we could "deputize" an EU local as a correspondent and send them instead

I typically refrain from any sort of advice because there is no doubt that you guys (mmorpg.com) have a much better understanding of what you need to do than any of us, but this is a great idea and would not only help clean up the venom of hate in this forum, but it would increase the traffic to this site.

Any sort of in-depth review of Darkfall from the eyes of one of you would go a long way to helping the public image of their development team, the game, this site, and those who support this game.

An objective opinion on this game's beta would be magnificent.

Please MMORPG, pull this one off and hope that your Italian counter-part hasn't already.

So, to end maybe 1 or 2 arguments in this section, I ask the following:
    1. Has mmorpg.com contacted Tasos for access to the beta to do a preview/review?
2 a). If you have, were you contacted back? Were you given permission or denied?
2 b). If you have not contacted them, why not?

Great thread Zorvan, I'm really impressed this thread has remained quite civil so far.

You know what might be a good idea, if someone linked this thread to the darkfall forums. Perhaps if seen by the right DF dev it may just open the door to some discussion. After all theres is no denying a hands on preview would be great publicity for both parties. Perhaps some arrangement could be come by to share some of the expenses.

  • angelsfangangelsfang Member Posts: 93

The impression they give me is that they are not all that anxious for mass publicity, and especially hype.  They are tired of people rushing them into a release, and tired of handing out timetables and forced to follow them.  I am not sure if it's still on course for a 2008 release but they have not brought that date up recently.  Basically their attitude is that they are doing their own thing, they are testing the game at this stage, and if the media wants to visit them they will not reject as long as there is a mutual respect and they follow their requests to abide by the NDA (although there can be special situations like the 1 day of permission to release info granted to the mmorpgitalia guys).

Aventurine is not Blizzard, not NCSoft, not any other company.  They will insist on doing things their own way, but if you ask nicely and/or visit them they will not turn you away.

why have the thread? why not just ask them directly? makes more sense than having it so the multitudes or morons can post where they are not supposed to just because it involves an upcoming game.

How about if you don't agree with the thread, stay out of it? Unless you have something constructive to add, I promise we'll make it fine without your input.

Just to clarify what I "hope" Kyleran is attempting to defend me on... MMORPG Italia's preview/review/holyshit, was far from objective.  It honestly read like more fluff from Adventurine.  I really want a dirty review of the beta, and not some dreamy, walk through the park with our Adventurine friends, I just want the truth.

I'm really done with the self-publicizing that they've been doing, everything's always talked up, never down.  It's really discouraging.

*EDIT* And yes, to add.  I do know that the "review" isn't finished yet because they've to get back to their offices...But that still doesn't change the fact that what was there, was "very" positive.
