I do think you are correct about lag, I don't imagine we will be seeing 200+ battles without lag. Will it be acceptable lag? Even this I doubt but we will have to see.
Just wanted to say, good on you Blodpls. A very reasonable reply. I played WWIIOL from launch, and indeed, lag sucked. Further, it lagged when your client was only allowed to display 64 characters MAX.
Still, nothing can touch Roma Victor. Talk about epic...client/server could get so far out of synch, I recall one battle that took an HOUR at POINT BLANK RANGE. I dare anyone to beat that level of fail!

the problem is they already tested 200 plus battles with out lag some poeple might lag depending how high of ping there prediction system can handle

Link please. I suspect what you are referring to is the SIMULATED battle, where they claimed 30-60fps.
Indeed, the prediction system could wind up being part of the problem. Of course, I am very good at lag fighting now, so I might be able to use this to my advantage. hehe!

So how are they going to limit people when the pvp is not taking place in instances? So 200 v 200 could become 5000 v 5000 on the server incl. all the people who wants to look.
As much as I hate instancing, how are they planning to cope with this?
And also where are the proof they can go to tens of thousands of people pr. server and make massive battles when they never tested with more than a few hundred?
There is a real lack of logic to all this.
There is a nice word for some of the posters in this thread: Apologists.
An apoligist is someone who can always find an excuse for why this or that is not really like that.
If you pay attention to what the fans here says, there are always reasons why DARKFALL is DIFFERENT, Doesn't have to do this or that that most mmo companies does. But one thing they don't explain is why there are so many exceptions and excuses.
Funcom lied through their teeth about so much content in their game all the way up to launch. But they had a velcro PR. I called them out even a year before launch, but people just didn't want to believe me.
Darkfall is so filled with cracks in the logic - way more than AoC. But I guess if people passionately want to believe there is no way to change their minds. HOWEVER - I can see from certain events on this forum that there is a certain .. how can I say, invasion of the forum going on.. And some posters seem very, very dodgy..
So how are they going to limit people when the pvp is not taking place in instances? So 200 v 200 could become 5000 v 5000 on the server incl. all the people who wants to look.
You ask you will get answer again ...
They won't limit anyone to takepart on a battle..a very ridiculous and MMO hostile idea to do that.

Supposedly this game features all this. They have tons of monsters, NPC hirelings that can get advanced orders and do what the player does, they can be player vendors, there are five continents incl. TRACKLESS water depths and underworld. Where are the videos? Where are videos of just a fragments of the spells and these water depths or NPC hirelings?
Apparently, the developers know how to wipe their ass after taking a shit. You need video proof of that, too?
Instead of lazily cutting and pasting the entire feature list off the web site, why not pick out the obviously next-gen features that actually do represent technological challenges and point out those?
Oooooh. 6 races. I really need a video to prove that exists.
How can this small team create and balance this game? With hundreds of unique skills in a skill system? Where are any supporting evidence that all this exists?
So making up skills is a huge technological feat... how?
Yet Darkfall can do this where everyone else fail? Yet you can make all that "weapons, tools, armor, clothing, food, containers, furniture, jewelry" There is even repair and decay mechanics. Darkfall offers "Darkfall features an extremely sophisticated item creator, which will enable players to create powerful items, like weapons, jewelry, armor, wands, potions, food and more." But AoC and WAR could hardly implement a fraction of all that with all their $ and large development team.
I get the feeling lack of these features in games like AoC or WAR were due to developer choice. These features existed in UO, 11 years ago. Some of these features exist in EVE today.
Have we seen them in Darkfall? No. Is it possible developing these features in a real-time 3D environment is a significant challenge? Maybe so. Maybe Darkfall can't deliver after all, but you can't claim we've never seen these features before, or that they can't be done.
They have "Lesser Magic, Greater Magic, Element of Fire, Element of Earth, Element of Water, Element of Air, Witchcraft, Spell Chanting, Necromancy, Wild Magic, Arcane Magic, and Ritual Magic" where AoC and WAR is really limited compared to this. AoC had hardly tested or getting to work most of their skills and powers at launch. Yet Darkfall offers 12 schools of magic..
Once again... how the hell are more schools of magic a technological challenge?
What about the servers, they haven't even been tested yet and there are supposed to be tens of thousands sharing them. No mention of instances at all.
A valid point. While it's true that large, single server, uninstanced games can certainly exist (EVE), Darkfall has not demonstrated to us that THEY can replicate this. So believe them or don't, but you can't claim it's an impossible feat. For the record, I neither believe nor disbelieve - until I see it in OB.
And yet there are tons of races and details to the combat and it is twitch based and second generation. Where are the videos of all the different races in combat and the videos of a working crafting system? And what about all the creatures and monsters?
Why do you need proof monsters and races exist? You've never seen a game that had monsters and races before?
And there have been videos featuring the "twitch" real time combat. What remains to be seen is if it'll work and be lag free in large battles.
They even promises a hundred dungeons. Sure. Right.
Think about what they mean by "dungeons". These aren't artificially crafted WoW instance-style dungeons. Most of them are simply caves or castles in the world that happen to be more densely inhabited by tougher mobs.
EVEN IF they had a development of 500 and large company and $ behind them I would still doubt them. But this is just plain silly.
You doubt what, exactly? The majority of the game's features: player-skill based, no levels, no classes, free PvP, full loot, no artificial game limitations, a sandbox world: these are the result of developer choice. Other companies chose not to include these features in order to cater to carebears.
Why don't you focus on Aventurine's promises that are actually revolutionary, like claiming they have a lag-free, real-time combat system that can support hundreds of players in battle at once. That's actually something many other games have not been able to do, and what you should really be most suspicious about. We'll find out Jan. 22 whether they were lying or not.
Otherwise, most of your disputed "revolutionary features" were seen 11 years ago, in UO.

Can you at least try to understand what I said?
I never said it was so technological challenging to do ALL of these things, I said it is unlikely for one tiny company to make all these features in a few years. Mythic / EA couldn't pull off half that content. Neither could Funcom. And they both tried.
The crafting, ressources system for example. Do you really believe in that? The player vendors, player housing, ship battles? Underworld, Water worlds? The twitch based combat when no instances?
What are their plans on how to stop 100+ guilds to meet at the same battlefield and bring down the server?
EVE can pull it off due to it's special mechanics and even their server gets swamped. This mmo can not use the same way of doing things, due to EVE's special travel system.
Aventurine has promised so much and yet they don't have ressources to update their webpage?!?
If you believe that I have a nice red bridge in San Fransisco for sale for a special price, just for you my friend!

EA did pull off half of these features give or take a few when they did UO, this was back in the 90's.
Darkfall game reads like a religion promising mmo paradise from their prophet tasos. The rabid fanboys, you know who you are...are like cultists praising his words and carrying out his message by invading mmorpg.com with non-stop crap about darkfall. Everytime i check the site, in the "current forum activity," there's always one topic that is new in DF about the same old crap all the time.
I never said it was so technological challenging to do ALL of these things, I said it is unlikely for one tiny company to make all these features in a few years. Mythic / EA couldn't pull off half that content. Neither could Funcom. And they both tried.
Why do you even mention shit like races and monsters? ANYBODY can make those. Why do you mention features, like a skill based system, no levels, no classes as things Mythic/Funcom tried and failed to implement? Here's a hint, [i]they never tried at all[i]. If you want proof these things can exist, look at UO. 1997.
If you ignored all of those, and instead focused on things they actually might not be able to deliver, people might take you more seriously.
The crafting, ressources system for example. Do you really believe in that? The player vendors, player housing, ship battles? Underworld, Water worlds? The twitch based combat when no instances?
I never said I believed it. The crafting and resource system, for example. We even know how it works in detail. I'm assuming it might work the same way as UO's, but nobody knows for sure.
What are their plans on how to stop 100+ guilds to meet at the same battlefield and bring down the server?

Yes, they claim to have a system that allows for real time FPS combat with between hundreds of players.

I don't recall ever paying money to Aventurine for Darkfall.
I'm not really of the "Doom" persuation, i do find their website a bit odd. I checked yestarday for a listing of the release date, after it had been posted like mad on here, and i didn't see anything confirming it. They really do not seem to concerened about whipping up a frenzy about their soon-to-launch game or getting the word out en-mass. Maybe that is why so many people don't feel likes its really about to launch. They're not really behaving as such. /shrug I just hope its fun, whenever it gets here
Point of Irony, they've taken so long to make this game, that I actually have a son, who takes up most of my game time, where-as before it was just my wife and I with no kids on the horizon! lol The irony is that, nopw that its actually going to release, i will probably not have the time to play it lol.

I played UO back in 1999 and loved it. The game had a lot going for it and I would occasionally say to my friends " What a cool game this is. Just imagine what we will be playing 10 years from now!"
You see, I imagined that they would take the concept of having an online world like UO and expand
On the epicness and openness of the gaming experience with better and better graphics.
After about a year of playing UO I heard about EQ and shortly after started playing EQ. And I thought
"OK, this is a step in the right direction. It has better graphics and 3D. The world was a nice size and
varied a lot. There are a great number of races and starting cities. The dungeons were sculpted
beautifully. And the mob AI was really something to behold."
EQ and UO were great games, but completely different in design concept. As far as game design there was so much to learn from these two examples. What worked
and what didn’t work.
As a player I saw what worked and what didn’t work in these games ,as I’m sure all of you
did too. BUT it seemed like the devs in the industry did not. Instead they focused on the problems
and tightened the reigns, putting more and more control over the players. Almost to the point of
making the MMOs feel like platform games. e.g. Zelda, Crash Bandicoot...
It has now been 10 years since the dawn of MMOs and the progression of these games getting better
and better just didn’t happen. Instead they got worse and worse.
Darkfall is FINALLY the next step in MMORPGs. UO -> EQ/AC -> Darkfall.
I’m not being a Fanboi here. At this point I’m just referring to the game concept. I am wishing
for them to be successful because I want MMOs to continue down the right path of open
and epic game play.
As to the OP
Can you take the best of UO and the best of EQ/AC and easily make a great game.
I say yes. They are not reinventing the wheel. They are just trying to bring a simple game
concept to life. (build an epic world, add dungeons and critters have a skill based character
generation, take the shackels off the players) simple.
Where are they saving time in this game concept? :
They don’t have to script hundreds and hundreds of lame quests.
They aren’t trying to push the envelope in computer graphics.
They don’t have levels, so trying to balance each area or mobs to the players isn’t critical.
They don’t have classes so class balance isn’t an issue like in every other MMO.
Will every feature make it into release? Probably not, but who cares, it's the nature of this
industry. After 10 years of following these games in development why are we surprised with this and with the devs being vague and silent.
Explain to me then... how come they don't update their website with whatever features they CAN put in when they launch in a months time? Do people really believe they are so above PR they don't need an updated feature list or website or even need to write the release date there? I am talking about the fact they promised more content then they could possibly deliver. Explain that to me.
Funny, I don't remember being named Aventurine's web admin.
I do agree the ancient years old site looks bad. And that promises of a system that can handle hundreds of players engaging in 3d real time combat is revolutionary, and has not been displayed at that scale.
If you want to claim "these features will not be implemented succesfully", fine.
I'll wait until Jan. 22 before making that determination. I'm not believing or disbelieving their claims.
If you don't think the game can handle battles involving hundreds of players, okay good for you. If you don't think the game can deliver a UO-style crafting system in 3d, fine.
Demanding video proof of "6 races" or "monsters"?
Copy + Pasting the featurelist straight from the website and saying "they can't do all this; look at WAR or AoC!"? Despite the fact that many of the features are no revolutionary technological challenge, and/or have been implemented in games 11 years ago?
Just makes you look like a troll.
I don't believe everything Aventurine says. I plan on actually trying the game before I decide it's the best game ever. It does have the best feature list of any game I've waited for. WoW didn't deliver everything I wanted. And AoC was just a plain waste of money.
Even if Darkfall delivers half the content it promises, half the features, it'll still be a far better deal than AoC ever was.
yet uo was changed into partly 3d game later on. it was awfull but they did that.
and at the op i cant believe how much time your spending into trying to make people believe darkfall is a scam. i first heard about darkfall in 2005 followed it a few weeks and stopped folowing it because i saw it would not be coming out soon. whent back around 2007 and stil figured i was not coming out soon.now i am following the game closer and folowing discusions on the darkfall boards and sometimes here. if its not coming out the 22 januari my live will contineu and i wont lose sleep over it. but you seem to be so fixated about darkfall that i am wondering if your hearth can take all this stress for a game you say is a hoax. aslong they are not scamming people out of there money (proven at court) they are not doing anything wrong no matter what you feel about it. when they are scamming people out of there money and you where one of the victims then maybe i could understand the uprar you are making here.
you have asked things people cant asnwer
you have asked things that people did answer
you keep asking the same thing for 19 pages and reply almost in every page and on the forums of darkfall to where it seems you are registered since 2007. i wonder what is the drive about this witchhunt of yours.
but i must say if they are in need of a pr team and are hiring i would say that you are a perfect candidate if you could give better pr then you are already doing.

LOL. I made ONE post. ONE. At the Darkfall forum and it wasnt me who started the thread and I wrote like ten words.
How is that for posting on the Darkfall forum??
If I am not misrembering, at the time I made my Darkfall account it was required to read the closed part of that forum..
Again you avoid all the questions. How can they do all this with such a small team? They have 100 times the features of WAR, AOC and even WoW. Why are people in the water moving as if it was one large sprite and not player controlled individual people playing? How can they promise to have scaleable servers with 10s of thousands of players when they never tested with that many people? Why let the camera cut every time combat ensues? Where are the real previews from reputable gaming magazines? What about incl. UI in the videos? Where is the Underworld? THe underwater trackless kingdoms? Seamonsters and other monsters? The video showing that advanced combat system actually works (from a single player perspective)?
Etc etc..
You just can't explain it. So stop posting if all you do is evading the questions!
So they did it with a team of like 25 people who worked on this and nothing else for 8 years. End of story.
Because it is the Dev team showing how people can use formations in the game, they move in a formation but it isn't perfect.
They have beta running, plus they can do ghost tests with multiple clients running on one computer.
Not sure what you mean by this.
They should be coming, but they haven't let the press in until recently.
They have ones with the UI in, get off your lazy ass and look for it. Try checking the forums. Those videos are about gameplay, not UI.
What is this underworld you are talking about? I have never heard of it. I haven't heard much talk of an underground world or underwater kingdoms in years.
They are in game, find a beta tester to tell you about them.
Check the video from athens gaming week, its all in there.
Mechanics of a game can be designed by one single person. I'm doing the same myself at the moment (more could be added later)
It's taken those ideas and getting the programmers implement them that takes time. 8 years is a LOT of time for programming.
Not to mention they created their own engine, therefore allowed ease of programming these features in the game, without limitations from other companies engines.

I do think you are correct about lag, I don't imagine we will be seeing 200+ battles without lag. Will it be acceptable lag? Even this I doubt but we will have to see.

Indeed, the prediction system could wind up being part of the problem. Of course, I am very good at lag fighting now, so I might be able to use this to my advantage. hehe!

You ask you will get answer again ...
They won't limit anyone to takepart on a battle..a very ridiculous and MMO hostile idea to do that.

So making up skills is a huge technological feat... how?
I get the feeling lack of these features in games like AoC or WAR were due to developer choice. These features existed in UO, 11 years ago. Some of these features exist in EVE today.
Have we seen them in Darkfall? No. Is it possible developing these features in a real-time 3D environment is a significant challenge? Maybe so. Maybe Darkfall can't deliver after all, but you can't claim we've never seen these features before, or that they can't be done.
Once again... how the hell are more schools of magic a technological challenge?
A valid point.
While it's true that large, single server, uninstanced games can certainly exist (EVE), Darkfall has not demonstrated to us that THEY can replicate this.
So believe them or don't, but you can't claim it's an impossible feat.
For the record, I neither believe nor disbelieve - until I see it in OB.
Why do you need proof monsters and races exist? You've never seen a game that had monsters and races before?
And there have been videos featuring the "twitch" real time combat. What remains to be seen is if it'll work and be lag free in large battles.
Think about what they mean by "dungeons". These aren't artificially crafted WoW instance-style dungeons. Most of them are simply caves or castles in the world that happen to be more densely inhabited by tougher mobs.

I have to agree with the OP, Draccan.
As good as all this sounds, I just don't see it.

EA did pull off half of these features give or take a few when they did UO, this was back in the 90's.
UO is a 2d game. Everything is harder and more time consuming when you do it in 3d.

Darkfall game reads like a religion promising mmo paradise from their prophet tasos. The rabid fanboys, you know who you are...are like cultists praising his words and carrying out his message by invading mmorpg.com with non-stop crap about darkfall. Everytime i check the site, in the "current forum activity," there's always one topic that is new in DF about the same old crap all the time.
lol darkfall.
Can you at least try not to be a dumbass?
Why do you even mention shit like races and monsters? ANYBODY can make those. Why do you mention features, like a skill based system, no levels, no classes as things Mythic/Funcom tried and failed to implement? Here's a hint, [i]they never tried at all[i]. If you want proof these things can exist, look at UO. 1997.
If you ignored all of those, and instead focused on things they actually might not be able to deliver, people might take you more seriously.
I never said I believed it.
The crafting and resource system, for example. We even know how it works in detail. I'm assuming it might work the same way as UO's, but nobody knows for sure.
Yes, they claim to have a system that allows for real time FPS combat with between hundreds of players.
Believe
Neither believe nor disbelieve until Jan. 22
Do not believe
3 choices.
I don't recall ever paying money to Aventurine for Darkfall.

/shrug I just hope its fun, whenever it gets here
Point of Irony, they've taken so long to make this game, that I actually have a son, who takes up most of my game time, where-as before it was just my wife and I with no kids on the horizon! lol The irony is that, nopw that its actually going to release, i will probably not have the time to play it lol.

that list has not been updated in a long time. Pets are not in, prestige classes are not in. They have already decided universal banks are in.
DARKFALL 09!
Apparently 08 didn't make it
Sorros of Forumfall.
@ the OP have you even seen the Darkfall gameplay trailer. Seige weapons and everything else that you claim doesn't exist is in there. Stop trolling.
Even if Darkfall delivers half the content it promises, half the features, it'll still be a far better deal than AoC ever was.
yet uo was changed into partly 3d game later on. it was awfull but they did that.
and at the op i cant believe how much time your spending into trying to make people believe darkfall is a scam. i first heard about darkfall in 2005 followed it a few weeks and stopped folowing it because i saw it would not be coming out soon. whent back around 2007 and stil figured i was not coming out soon.now i am following the game closer and folowing discusions on the darkfall boards and sometimes here. if its not coming out the 22 januari my live will contineu and i wont lose sleep over it. but you seem to be so fixated about darkfall that i am wondering if your hearth can take all this stress for a game you say is a hoax. aslong they are not scamming people out of there money (proven at court) they are not doing anything wrong no matter what you feel about it. when they are scamming people out of there money and you where one of the victims then maybe i could understand the uprar you are making here.
you have asked things people cant asnwer
you have asked things that people did answer
you keep asking the same thing for 19 pages and reply almost in every page and on the forums of darkfall to where it seems you are registered since 2007. i wonder what is the drive about this witchhunt of yours.
but i must say if they are in need of a pr team and are hiring i would say that you are a perfect candidate if you could give better pr then you are already doing.
people need to start putting "typed while drunk" in their posts. it seperates the alcoholics from the people who are just too stupid to spell check,
LOL. I made ONE post. ONE. At the Darkfall forum and it wasnt me who started the thread and I wrote like ten words.
How is that for posting on the Darkfall forum??
If I am not misrembering, at the time I made my Darkfall account it was required to read the closed part of that forum..
Who is trolling who?

It is the bottom video: http://darkfallworld.com/node/125
That video kills our your complaints. You lost.
