    The reason why this game is more feasible to be feature complete is one thing WAR and AOC didn't have: Time.

    But even that Feature list has quite a few listing that have an AR (Accuracy Rating) of 5 or less.  Meaning on a 1 to 10 scale that there is only a 50/50 chance that some of them may in fact still be in the game. 

     

    That's part of the problem.  It would be nice if either the NDA would drop sufficiently before Jan. 22nd so that we can know a bit more of this, or Tasos or one of the other Devs. go through the list and give us a run-down on what's in and what's out.

     

    With the Release just 6 weeks away, they know by know what is in and what is out.   That's all I ask, just be honest with us before it Releases and we have to find out for ourselves what is missing.   If that isn't done before Release and there are indeed Features missing... how is that better than what AoC did then?   That is what I'm hoping DarkFall does not do. 

     

    Nope... they have the means to create the most advanced online game ever, but they dont have the time or money to update their feature list on the website with what they MUST know by now. They don't even put the release date on the website...

    Yawn, pointless replies by overskeptical trolls. The game is obviously coming out, yes their PR is different... Aventurine want to put money into development and gain marketing by word and mouth from having a quality game, they have been working on the game for a very long time so have had alot of time to get all the feature and content in.

    You lot are just basically being overly pessimistic, the answers are there and you just choose not to believe them, thats your choice but your just trolling for no real purpose and with no real argument.

    Started playing mmorpg's in 1996 and have been hooked ever since. It began with Kingdom of Drakkar, Ultima Online, Everquest, DAoC, WoW...

    Those figures are in Norwiegnen Kroner, if you look at the balance sheet they have never had more than + or - $11,000 since 2002 when then the devs went to Aventurine..  It's not a properly function business, it's a just a shell.  I would imagine that is just exists on paper and has bank account with a small overdraft facility.

    Point me to a NON-SCRIPTED video with UI on for half those features... I would love to see just a quarter of these 100+ dungeons or TRACKLESS water worlds or large underworld..
    And real fights, from start to finish, no fancy quick cuts or camera movement... just regular videos... If not this is just AoC = empty promises all over multiplied by a 1000

    Btw, funny you should mention AoC, that POS game did everything right according to you: had preorders, huge marketing, beta leaks, loads of game mags reviewed it... and yet it failed in so many levels. Same goes for Vanguard and they had to sell out later on.

    I also would like to see all kinds of things about Darkfall, and have my doubts about the game and their claims. They've shown lot of their biggest features, like naval combat, if you choose not to believe their videos then that's your right to do so.

    Beta leaks usually happen if people are not happy with the game, I suspect the number of new testers in their beta at the moment is small (100-200 maybe) and that maybe Aventurine has said they will kick every tester out of beta if someone leaks somewhere. And maybe, just maybe the game is actually that good.

    Once again, as long as they don't start selling preorders and let people test before buying, I really don't see how any gamer could have any reason to cry about how they do things. It's not like you lose any money for waiting a few more weeks, is it?

    You mean some unknown DVD distribution company in Greece that was forced to take on Darkfall and try a new business model because piracy was ruining their main source of business?

    Helluva "publisher" they managed to secure for the best MMO since sliced bread.

    Well this game has been in developmenet for the last 7 years. I dont doubt them when they say they can implement all of this into their game. They have definetly had the time to. Who cares how small the team is. They may all be geniuses and they have had quite a while to do all this.  Oh well we will see what it is like when the game comes out.

    Time mainly. And Blizzard wasn't really aiming for a "feature complete" game to begin with. They wanted to save all that for expansions obviously. Blizzard also devotes their resources to various projects at once.

    EDIT: Rember that a very complex MMO is actually more niche than the dumbed down ones. That's why the others don't have as much I'd say. Besides, look at Eve Online.

    If your talking about the 17min video, that wasn't scripted. But there was a freecam in use. That's why it was believe to be scripted. They were somewhat setup and choregraphed to show features.

    How can they promise to have scaleable servers with 10s of thousands of players when they never tested with that many people?

    You can test servers with multiple connections with various emulators. Not sure how exactly it's done, but network IT specialists are well aware of this. Doesn't mean they wont' with OB though. All MMO's somewhat take a risk with server numbers. Especially EVE.

    Why let the camera cut every time combat ensues?

    Not sure what your talking about here. Combat has been shown a lot. Whether it's robust we'll have to "feel" if it is on release.

    Where are the real previews from reputable gaming magazines?

    Usually takes a lot of money/ass kissing to do this. And honestly, I would not want my game reviewed by someone that gives good ones for cash.

    What about incl. UI in the videos?

    Look at the Athens Digital Week Video. Should clarify. Beta responses show the UI need works however.

    Where is the Underworld?

    Probably one of the things they want to show in the game itself. They wanted to keep some stuff a suprise.

    THe underwater trackless kingdoms?

    That's the more far fetched feature. If they missed it, I can see why. Water combat and such sucks.

    Seamonsters and other monsters?

    Not hard to implement.

    The video showing that advanced combat system actually works (from a single player perspective)?

    There are videos. But we won't know if it "works" until we play it. Right now combat looks clunky, but various beta responses says it needs to be played to understand.

     

    I can understand your problems with the dev of this game, and speculation. But what your asking is very time consuming. Showing each and every single feature would be a bit tough.

    This is why there will be a free trial to the game, so we can see at least some of these features. Not all of them though.

    Darkfall claims to have dynamic weather, dynamic swarm of enemies, not static. There servers hold tens of thousands and are completely scaleable.
    Can you imagine how envious Funcom must be?? With their two development teams in both Norway and Asia they couldn't do that with ten times the manpower.
    But we all know that Norway isn't a great IT country like Greece.
    In fact they are so great in Aventurine they can promise all those ten of thousands pr. server without even having to test it.

    The game is in beta and under an NDA.  They don't have a large staff to spend lots of time making videos for you.  When the NDA is lifted, ask these questions.

    Demanding information from a community who are as ignorant as you or legally obliged to not speak about the game doesn't make any sense.  It's like going to a video arcade and demanding to know about the care and upkeep of Alpaccas.

    This is a crazy idea, I know, but I want you to write it down and think about it.  Wait until the NDA is lifted, then compare this list to what is in the game.  Also, why don't you take a little more effort and actually choose the features that you doubt are in the game, some of those things you listed are so obviously included, you just seem foolish to mention them.

    Tasos says it's feature complete and ready for release; in fact, more ready for release than most other games. So I'm expecting exactly this and will allow the 22nd to come and go before I make any more decisions of this games validity in the mmorpg market.

    Racial wars?

    Yes. Darkfall has six different main character races: Elves, Dwarves, Humans, Mahirim, Orks and Alfar. Each race has different political standings with the other races. The Elves are at peace with Dwarves and Humans, but are wary of Mahirim, and are at war with the Orks.

    Everyone hates the Alfar, and the Alfar hate everyone. In effect this means that Elven players may travel to Dwarven and Human cities without having any problems with the city guards, and may buy and sell in stores. If an Elven player traveled to an Orkish city, he would be killed on sight, both by city guards and other players. In Alfar cities, any other race is attacked.

    Can I be successful at combat without learning magic?

    It’s possible, but it won’t be easy. We are balancing magic and melee/archery skills so that you can compete even if you choose not to learn magic. Darkfall is a magical world though, so if you are totally against picking up any magic skills or spells, you may have to rely on
    magical items, potions or scrolls to aid you in combat.

    What’s the best path to follow to be successful in combat?

    The best individual fighters in Darkfall will most likely be the characters that have a good combination of skills. In Clan warfare, clans with a good mix of various specialties should fare the best.

    I enjoy playing support characters. Will my contribution make a difference in combat?

    Your contribution could be very valuable. Logistics are very important in Clan warfare. The tradesmen, farmers, bakers, miners and other support characters stocking up supplies of spell reagents, gold, weapons, potions, armor, and whatever else is needed, are crucial to the
    war effort. Fighting ability alone will not be able to sustain a successful campaign for long. A clan will need to balance their activities, or cooperate with other clans in order to be successful.

    Can I make a name for myself as a solo fighter?

    Yes you could, but it won’t be easy. Without a support network you will have serious disadvantages and there’s a limit to what you can accomplish fighting against all odds. However, if you’re intelligent, persistent and skillful you could be very successful playing the “lone wolf”
    character.

    Can you fight in cities?

    Yes you can fight wherever you want. There are no safe zones

    Aren’t you worried that out of control random player killers will ruin the game?

    No. Being a random player killer of evil alignment is definitely possible, but also an extremely hard career. You will have enemies everywhere, and will have a hard time finding a safe city to trade in. You have the freedom to play such a character, but there’s also accountability
    for the choices you make.

    How does alignment come into play when a good clan is at war with another good clan?

    Once clans have declared war on each other, no alignment adjustments will occur due to your actions towards members of the clan you are at war with.

    Can you walk through other players in Darkfall?

    No, so blocking entrances will be a viable combat tactic. It is possible to push players and monsters out of the way though, so this tactic can be countered.

    How many skills and spells will Darkfall have?

    We will have as many as we can possibly add before the game launch. We currently have about 300 skills and 200 spells designed on paper, but we are hoping to get at least 500 skills and 500 spells in there before retail.

    Why so many skills and spells?

    We would like to make combat, spell casting, trading, and item creation as interesting as possible. Our goal is to promote more variety in combat and allow for a large number of possible combinations to be used in offense and in defense, rather than the same predictable

    routines being used over and over.

    How do I get new skills and spells?

    Most spells and skills can be purchased from NPCs, and they will teach you the basics of the particular skill or spell, so you can start using it and training it. Some skills and spells can be learned from other players.

    NPCs may ask you to help them perform certain quests before they are willing to teach you special spells and skills.

    What is the spell system like?

    Spells will be divided into several different schools of magic: Lesser Magic, Greater Magic, Element of Fire, Element of Earth, Element of Water, Element of Air, Witchcraft, Spell Chanting, Necromancy, Wild Magic, Arcane Magic, and Ritual Magic. In addition there are some
    special spells that do not fit directly into any school of magic, such as racial specialty spells, and Prestige class specialty spells.

    Do you have skill caps?

    Yes, skills start at one and cap at 100.

    So I can learn any spell or skill?

    Some skills and spells are race specific, meaning you can not learn them unless you are of the appropriate race. The races also have limits on what they can and cannot learn. The dwarves for instance, are better at melee fighting than they are at magic, so they can master
    some awesome melee techniques, but they can not learn some of the most advanced spells. Dwarves are however the best smiths in the world, so they can make magical armor that’s a lot better than what the smiths of other races can make.

    There are some special skills and spells that can only be learned by specific Prestige class characters.

    Can I cast spells while wearing armor?

    Yes, however, your casting time will increase significantly if you are wearing heavy armor. So for example, while it takes only two seconds for a player wearing a robe to cast a spell, it may take as long as five seconds for a player in a full plate to cast the exact same spell.

    There is also a slightly increased chance of making a mistake while casting a spell if you are wearing heavy armor.

    Can players make magical items?

    Darkfall features an extremely sophisticated item creator, which will enable players to create powerful items, like weapons, jewelry, armor, wands, potions, food and more.

    Playing a lot will help you develop a stronger character, it will help you to improve your character handling skills, and it will familiarize you better with the world and the way it works. However, this game is not all about individual skill, and there will be a skill cap so characters

    can develop up to a point. There are many elements that come into play in Darkfall, and a casual player can have as much fun playing the game, and possibly be more successful than a hard core gamer, in some fields.

    Do I need to be a twitchy gamer to be good?

    Skill does come into play in combat, but so does intelligence, strategy, group tactics, preparation, equipment, conditions etc. There are many elements that will affect the outcome of a confrontation.

    Can I play all races on the same server?

    No you may not. This is something we have discussed at length, and we believe that it would allow for easy spying, taking away from the gaming experience. If you play an Alfar, for example, you may log on your Elf scout just to check if the Elven town of Charybdis is well
    defended at the moment or not. If you want to play a different race, you may do so on a different server / game world.

    How do I tell my NPC hirelings what to do?

    You can either give an NPC hireling a direct one-time order, such as "heal me", or you can set up a more permanent chain of orders, through an advanced NPC hireling interface in Darkfall. This advanced interface can tell the NPC hireling to heal you every time your health
    goes below say 10% of your max health. Obviously the NPC hireling must have the matching skills and spells to perform these actions.

    NPC hirelings have skills and spells like players do. The more skills and/or spells an NPC hireling has, and the better skill and/or spell levels he has, the more gold he will require for his services.

    Will Darkfall have universal banks?

    It will be tested in alpha and beta. We like the idea that if you deposit a longsword in a bank, you have to go back to the exact same bank to withdraw it. However this might prove too annoying in the long run, and as with everything else, we have to consider gameplay issues
    vs. realism.

    How will trading work?

    We have developed a pretty sophisticated trading system that brings buyers and sellers together easily, and it will work in, but also out of the game. There will be more on this at a later date.

    Can I have pets or NPC hirelings in Darkfall?

    You can have pets and NPC hirelings in Darkfall, ranging from tamed animals and monsters, to summoned skeletons, charmed animals and monsters, hired NPC merchants, hired NPC guards, etc.

    What can my NPC hirelings do?

    NPC hirelings can follow you around and fight with you, they can carry your loot, they can perform skills and spells to aid you, etc. NPC hirelings can do pretty much everything that player friends can do. In addition, NPC hirelings can be given advanced orders such as patrolling your city, looking for enemies, criminals, and thieves. They can be a vendor in your shop that you have set up, they can mine for minerals in a mine, they can go out into the forest and chop wood for you, or stand on the banks of a river fishing for you all day.

    Supposedly this game features all this. They have tons of monsters, NPC hirelings that can get advanced orders and do what the player does, they can be player vendors, there are five continents incl. TRACKLESS water depths and underworld. Where are the videos? Where are videos of just a fragments of the spells and these water depths or NPC hirelings?
    How can this small team create and balance this game? With hundreds of unique skills in a skill system? Where are any supporting evidence that all this exists?
    They have multi-language support already? Really? Tasos says the game is feature complete and ready? And there is varied ressources built into the game? Think about how complex such a system is to code and create. Yet Darkfall can do this where everyone else fail? Yet you can make all that "weapons, tools, armor, clothing, food, containers, furniture, jewelry" There is even repair and decay mechanics. Darkfall offers "Darkfall features an extremely sophisticated item creator, which will enable players to create powerful items, like weapons, jewelry, armor, wands, potions, food and more." But AoC and WAR could hardly implement a fraction of all that with all their $ and large development team.
    They have "Lesser Magic, Greater Magic, Element of Fire, Element of Earth, Element of Water, Element of Air, Witchcraft, Spell Chanting, Necromancy, Wild Magic, Arcane Magic, and Ritual Magic" where AoC and WAR is really limited compared to this. AoC had hardly tested or getting to work most of their skills and powers at launch. Yet Darkfall offers 12 schools of magic..
    What about the servers, they haven't even been tested yet and there are supposed to be tens of thousands sharing them. No mention of instances at all.
    And yet there are tons of races and details to the combat and it is twitch based and second generation. Where are the videos of all the different races in combat and the videos of a working crafting system? And what about all the creatures and monsters?
    They even promises a hundred dungeons. Sure. Right.
     
    EVEN IF they had a development of 500 and large company and $ behind them I would still doubt them. But this is just plain silly.
    I love sandbox, skill-based games, but that doesn't mean I can not call out a development "company" that is obviously bogus..

      Realize that the language behind a lot of this is to sell the game too. "countless small islands," You could probably count them ya know...

     

    Other than that, i gotta ask...what's the problem? If you don't believe it then don't. The game seems to good to be true, so if it lives up to the hype then what is the problem? If it doesn't, well you're just another nay-sayer, so again, what's the problem?
