I know a lot of people would feel more comfortable if MMORPG.COM or some other respected gaming site had the chance for a hands-on preview of Darkfall. A preview would go a long way towards legitimizing the game. Recently, Tasos stated that he would open the game up for independant previews (I can't find a source for that, could someone provide it?). Shortly thereafter, either the editor of MMORPG.COM or the owner made a post on the Darkfall forum promising to contact Aventurine for a preview. I've always wondered what came of that. For those of you who, like me, were looking forward to the preview, it turns out that Aventurine has backed away from their promise to allow independent previews of the game. Here's a statement from MMORPG.COM regarding the status of the preview (scroll down to the bottom, look for Stradden's reply):
Edit - please make sure to log in before clicking the link, otherwise you will not go to the correct location.
Well of course they denied them. Why would they want someone not under their control or pay to preview the game? If they did allow it then we would all know what a liar Tasos is and what a pile of steaming crap Darkfall really is.
I am glad they refused. This will make the games release that much sweeter. I cant wait to come to these boards on that day....
SS's and fraps please because I don't take the word of any one person. I like to see it with my own eye's and make up my mind about a game........What are the odd's of you getting in to play, 5% chance maybe ?

Tasos will let anyone of his friends preview his feature complete, fully tested and ready to release game, many many many previews are out there you just have to find them. What part of Bias dont you comprehend ? A review by his sister isnt very credible. Please show me a review by a major source such as PC Gamer or mmorpg.com. You cant because Tasos refused to allow anyone to see the game. Anyone can see Darkfall for themselves, Tasos is ready and waiting to show anyone the game on his laptop in Athens for a few minutes, what are you all waiting for?, just contact him and arrange a visit, do it now. So the only way we can see a sneek peak of the game is to spend $2,000 on a plane ticket and fly to Greece ? Tasos cant use e-mail to send me mmorpg.com a beta key ? Tasos cant be bothered to pick up a phone ? The main reason why a revolutionary advanced next generation title like Darkfall does not get the media attention it really deserves is Tasos spends all his money making the best game ever for us instead of paying journalists for previews like every other game does before launch. The reason the game doesnt get any attention is simply because Tasos has hidden it from them. mmorpg.com asked to see it for a review and was told maybe later essentially. And I dont know if I would call this game revolutionary advanced next generation. The one video ive seen looked like something made 8-10 years ago. It might have been next gen when it started development 8-9 years ago, but not it looks dated. All the previews will come after launch, Tasos is to busy to do them at the moment, so thank him for not wasting time on releasing new information about the game when we already have 8 years of old information about the game. Yes all the reviews will come in after Tasos has his money in hand. Thats not exactly reassurring the community. Weve been down this road before where a head developer takes the money and runs after launch exposes the game for being a scam...Dark and Light, Vanguard, Age of Conan to a lesser extent to name just a few.
Ive seen quite a number of your posts now. You refer to Tasos in very personal terms. Your either a deluted fanboi or someone actually close (or possibly even tasos) to Tasos. Your advice is always the same, just trust Tasos because the game is great.
If its so great just show us one stinkin gameplay video. Not something edited for show. Open the beta server to review if its next gen advanced MMO you claim it is.

All of polarization's posts are sarcastic and snarky. You just failed to recognize it, since he's pretty good at it.

you act like we want this game to fail.
Heck I would love for this game to deliver all that its promised. Im not playing any MMO at this time because none appeal to my sandbox needs.
Tasos has refused to allow an outsider to review the game. The game has been delayed numerous times. I remember when we heard that beta was starting in 2003, then 2004.
We heard nothing at all for years then suddenly some grainy heavily edited video appears and we're told the game is real and launching soon. Then once again the date is pushed back.
When asked why all the silence again, Tasos says the game is too overhyped and their afraid too many players will want to play.
Excuse me but when has it ever been a bad thing to have too many customers ? Go to a bank and borrow the money if you need more servers to handle the swarming crowds. If the demand is as high as you claim it is nobody will refuse a loan to ya.
Ive worked in public relations and journalism all my life. I know bullshit when i see it. Tasos is full of shit and covering up something
who gives a flying F#2k about this site not being granted special access.
Look at what this site has become. You can argue all you want but mmorpg doesn't really bring anything to the table in credibility in ways of truly helping the game's marketing.

FFS this is NOT just about MMORPG.com getting access - this is about anyone besides Tasos's cronies getting access.
The only reason people here are on about about MMORPG.com getting access is because this happens to be MMORPG.com.
If you want to start a thread here saying Ten Ton Hammer should be given access - then go for it!
(might be better to do that at TTH though don't you think?)
People don't actually care who the hell it is - so long as someone (outside of Tasos's friends and family and dodgy 'beta leakers' who repost year old Tasos quotes) can verify this game is at least part way to being what he is claiming it is.
Ive worked in public relations and journalism all my life. I know bullshit when i see it. Tasos is full of shit and covering up something
Didn't he get a grant from the Greek Government?
That could be hard to explain if the game is not real?
Actually, MMORPG.com, there's a possible 'in'.
If Aventurine did really get a loan from the Greek Government then someone in the Greek Government must have seen the game?
And there will be no NDA there - as when you give out public monies you have to be accountable.
Maybe start there?
Or, in the event MMORPG.com is not prepared to do this, are there any Greek Citizens here?
To be honest I know nothing about that Greek Government's loan.... but anyway if Greek Government loan AV then they should be sure that the game was real.
Thought the only loan they got was a €20 mil. from Marfin Bank in 2007.
@admriker4: Well very few people trust right now Tasos, but I don't think there is a conspiracy or something. AV got a loan from the Greek Government (I'm not aware of that tho) and from a bank, which means it's kinda difficult two differnet sides be misinformed, at least I hope.... Anyway if the Greek Gov. didn't actually loan AV, a Bank (shares traded on the Athens Stock Exchange) wouldn't loan 20ml euro if wasn't 100% sure that the game exists.

No, you can get a loan based on a sound business 'plan' with projections.
It is obvious that at some point Darkfall had some talented people involved somewhere - there is concept art and a couple of videos.
But this stuff is also quite old now. It just proves that at some point, some work was done on something. It does not prove that all the claims made about the game and what it can do are true, or that development has continued.
Also, if the Greek Government did give a loan they may not have seen the game? (That's what I would like to find out) Some governments give 'grants' for prospective ventures and do not expect all of them to pay off. Again, a good business plan may have been enough. But that does not mean the plan was followed through.
I dont see how telling mmorpg.com "maybe/later" = "refusing". Do every gaming company give out previews whenever mmorpg asks for it since i dont see any "Random Company Refuses MMORPG.COM" news, or is it just Aventurine that gets this special honor in the spotlight?
and wall of text
Mostly what i read here is flames about Darkfall, how much it will suck and so on. Im also irritated about how Aventurine is handling their hopefully future clients and i also have my doubts about all these promises but im just going to try the game and see if i like it, no need to be all defensive or offensive about a game but it does irritate me when people try to bring the game down without even having played it and try to justify their claims with facts that has nothing to do with said game.
DnL crashed and burn, boho i was also looking forward to it but we all know how that went. What has this to do with Darkfall? - No, i dont know either but it seems to be a popular thing to do, put Darkfall in a group of already released games that have pretty much died or are dying. True fact, we dont know if Darkfall will be better or worse than DnL, war, aoc, tetris or whatever.
Only the starting areas are populated in the beta?
Well we all know how bad WoW went, their beta and release had huge areas that were unpopulated or not even there.. Yeah that game failed. Not to mention how many awesome features they had turned on during beta!
I mean you could like.. make a character, kill some stuff, loot them(sometimes), gain levels, use some skills and there were even some quests! The best thing though? it only took them 5 years to be almost done with the small, inexperienced team and very limited resources Blizzard had. Now Darkfall doesnt have much more features to it so it should be completly spotless, bug free, graphics that rivals Crysis and it should only have taken them at most 5 years to do otherwise its a complete failiure!
Yes im sarcastic if anyone didnt notice already. Having things missing in beta is no way to tell how the game will turn out at release or month(s) after as you can see with the graphics of Darkfall, the new screenshots and videos are far from ugly. Any way you look at it Darkfall is a much more complex game than Wow can ever hope to be and coming from a small and new company, I dont expect perfection and think its sad that a lot of people are expecting perfection and judge it from there.
Why not judge how much closer it is compared to what we got today?
Not sure why anyone would feel more comfortable if a "respectable" website reviewed Darkfall, as the obvious result tends to go against the devs' wishes. They had originally intended to keep the hype down, but it's grown beyond their estimations since the video releases (more than quintupled, I believe) and they just don't have the resources to handle that many people at this point. If this site, and I'm not certain how it's respectable as I've never heard of it before, were to review the game, I'm certain there'd be a spike in the population, the degree variable. But no matter how small, it'll only hurt. By all means, champion the notion, fight for it. S'your own fault when you're sitting in the queue.

You do realize he is being completely sarcastic and is actually bashing Tasos and the game right?
Christ, he has a semi-cult following of DF doom prophets!
lol! You should edit this quickly before you embarrass yourself more...
p.s. ALL of his posts are meant to be sarcastic and humorous on this subject. Wow...just....wow.

I think that would be a safe bet
"If you just step away for a sec you will clearly see all the pot holes in the road, and the cash shop selling asphalt..." - Mimzel on F2P/Cash Shops
You know, I don't think he's a liar for suddenly acknowledging (at least part of) the realities of a successful game release. I think he was just naive and probably a bit arrogant, and it is now biting him in his backside. I lot of people admire strength and honest, and that's easy enough to get. To this end, a lot of other people sayyy politicians are unusually reticent to change their mind on just about any issue because they then get perceived as weak-willed at best, dishonest at worst. I personally prefer the intellectual honest that is inherent to changing one's mind when there is sufficient reason to do so. The whole "we don't announce until we're sure we won't delay" was bullcrap. So is the David v Goliath fairy tale of taking on the big guys and flipping the industry on its head. So was the "pre-orders for early access or cool items is nothing but a scam". That was all nonsense, from my perspective. Where was I going with all this? I guess I'm just trying to say that it's not so bad.
Except for the beta leaks that talk about an empty world (outside of the newbie areas), most features turned off and clickfest melee combat.
Although this is cause for concern, no matter what way you look at it.
actully most stuff is enabled it was content they hadnt put in all the way next patch will have alot more
doesnt anyone understand the concept of q/a testing O_O
Q&A testing?
This game was fully complete and MORE ready for launch than ANY other MMO Tasos ever personally followed. Those are his words in December.
So... What exactly are they doing Q&A for now? The game was ready to release tomorrow. I assume therefore they had completed Q&A testing prior to stating a release date?
I think the people that are pre ordering this game would have been the same ones waiting in line for the Kool Aid that Jim Jones made a few years ago..........Despite all the warning signs there will still be people that blindly give Aventurine whatever they want for this game......As for beta leaks, there might not be any......ALot of us have suspicions that there may not be many because they arent letting outsiders in..... The reason why they wont give any outside source a preview/interview is that they have alot to hide and their game is bush league......Go watch the vids on youtube where you cant understand what the guys are saying.....They look terrible....The graphics are dull and bland and the characters are extremely herky jerky.......LIke a previous poseter said there are plenty of examples of bad releases and Darkfall is following in those same footsteps..... You guys can give Aventurine your money but dont say you havent been warned......When/if the game releases what does it hurt to wait a month or two to get some solid reviews?? At least with AoC/WAR we knew people who were in the betas.....No one seems to know anyone in the Darkfall beta testing.
ok what about my friend then?because he sure in hell didnt play with the devs back in the day or the devs friend
Perhaps your friend is jerking your chain? Some friends are like that you know.
You gotta admit it would be a pretty good punk on you with all the posts and "guarantees" you've made here.
I might have missed one... but have you been right on any of them yet? Just wondering.
I guess if it was me... I might start doubting how reliable my friends information was.
Good point.
I've asked this in a couple other threads, but never received a reply from downtoearth.
I do believe he knows someone in the beta. But.... I don't think this person is actually a "friend" as most of us would use the term to describe someone we know. Only guessing here. I think it's someone he met in another MMO and doesn't actually know in real life.
It's obvious that this "friend" doesn't live anywhere near him, or downtoearth would have actually played the game "first hand".
Now, that doesn't make his friend incorrect and I'm not trying to elude to that. Just saying, this friend is someone he doesn't really know.

As for a queue, I don't think that will be a problem at all.
No, not self-important. If I have never heard of this site before, how would I know it's respectable? I was implying not that it wasn't respectable, but that I do not know why it is.
As for queues, one of the main reasons they are delaying the game is because they need to readjust to fit the rapid growth of the population. So logically, the more hype they have, the more people they get, the less prepared they are to handle the playerbase at launch, which means queues. So perhaps, instead of a pre/review of the game prior to release, MMORPG.com, should do a review post release. The game gets more hype, Aventurine has an income, and they're better ready to handle the increase in players.
I understand that people want a review from a source they know and can guage the validity of, but doing so can only hurt Darkfall right now. The devs have a try-before-you-buy policy, so it's not like you'll ever lose anything. Just accept the current reviews, and then contrast them with your experience during your trial.

One little problem...
The vast majority of people will never get a whiff of a "free trial" before they have to decide to do the pre-order or wait until sometime after launch.
Oh and the devs had a policy of no pre-order too... so their "policies" aren't exactly written in stone.
For those of you who, like me, were looking forward to the preview, it turns out that Aventurine has backed away from their promise to allow independent previews of the game. Here's a statement from MMORPG.COM regarding the status of the preview (scroll down to the bottom, look for Stradden's reply):
Edit - please make sure to log in before clicking the link, otherwise you will not go to the correct location.
stradden made that post on 1/16... isn't that like two weeks after the supposed journalist beta was supposed to have started? odd that the darkfall people have never stated that the journalist beta was pushed back.
oh wait, this is just the same bullshit that darkfall has done for a decade... the only reason ANYONE is paying ANY attention at this point is because they released a little video.
odd that it took them a decade to make that single player crap they've demo'd a couple of times now.
sooooooooo where's the beef? a website isn't it. a single player video isn't it. a review made by someone whose site is (was) hosted by darkfall isn't much in the way of reliable.
guess there was nothing to see after all.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Or, in the event MMORPG.com is not prepared to do this, are there any Greek Citizens here?
Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.
FFS,
who gives a flying F#2k about this site not being granted special access.
Look at what this site has become. You can argue all you want but mmorpg doesn't really bring anything to the table in credibility in ways of truly helping the game's marketing.
/rant off
Hmmm ok, try reading a newspaper once in a while.
Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.
Didn't he get a grant from the Greek Government?
That could be hard to explain if the game is not real?
Actually, MMORPG.com, there's a possible 'in'.
If Aventurine did really get a loan from the Greek Government then someone in the Greek Government must have seen the game?

S'your own fault when you're sitting in the queue.
sheesh patience guys .
Feeling a little self-important, are we?
As for a queue, I don't think that will be a problem at all.
Its time to put up or shut up.
LOL. OMFG!!111!!eleven~111!!
Im going to go ahead and give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are joking.
I think that would be a safe bet
and the cash shop selling asphalt..." - Mimzel on F2P/Cash Shops
actully most stuff is enabled it was content they hadnt put in all the way next patch will have alot more
doesnt anyone understand the concept of q/a testing O_O
Q&A testing?
This game was fully complete and MORE ready for launch than ANY other MMO Tasos ever personally followed. Those are his words in December.
So... What exactly are they doing Q&A for now? The game was ready to release tomorrow. I assume therefore they had completed Q&A testing prior to stating a release date?
thought you didnt : )
i did say public beta on the 22nd probly which i was mostly right
Tomorrow is the 22nd, and guess what? You won't be right about that either. We can check back tomorrow.
ok what about my friend then?because he sure in hell didnt play with the devs back in the day or the devs friend
Feeling a little self-important, are we?
As for a queue, I don't think that will be a problem at all.

Oh and the devs had a policy of no pre-order too... so their "policies" aren't exactly written in stone.
stradden made that post on 1/16... isn't that like two weeks after the supposed journalist beta was supposed to have started? odd that the darkfall people have never stated that the journalist beta was pushed back.
oh wait, this is just the same bullshit that darkfall has done for a decade... the only reason ANYONE is paying ANY attention at this point is because they released a little video.
odd that it took them a decade to make that single player crap they've demo'd a couple of times now.
sooooooooo where's the beef? a website isn't it. a single player video isn't it. a review made by someone whose site is (was) hosted by darkfall isn't much in the way of reliable.
guess there was nothing to see after all.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
