These WOW haters need to go somewhere and rot. Seriously, it gets old reading the same drivel in  every thread of every forum of every game every day from every moron who hates WOW.

    Currently Playing: World of Warcraft

    Good or evil?  Not so.

There's Sith, Imperials, Republic, Rebellion, Criminal, Corporations, etc.  Star Wars is epic because it has so much, not so little...

Fallen Earth will have 6 factions and a faction wheel. Gonna ..be..awesome.(slightly off-topic but I can't pass up an opportunity to point out FE is gonna give us so much of what we have been asking for).

That is ruffly the same as WoW.... They had elves, dwarves, and humans. Those are 3 seperate "Factions" but all good. The Republic (when it wasn't the Empire) and the rebellion would both be labeled as good. The Criminals, Sith, Imperials while different would be labeled as bad. Corps i honestly don't know... they could go both ways i guess.

Like the Bounty Hunter class. That could be in fact a bad class (if it is good thats retarded) and their starting place could be around the Hutts territory. That doesn't mean it couldn't be "Allied" with the Sith....

I mean what you said is like saying the Sith and Empire are different factions. Time wise they are, but they are still the same. I mean some of the rebellion came from the Republic (The Republic at least tried being more fair than say.... the Empire).

This is like LOTR. There is a set bad and good with some neutrals in the mix, but those neutrals could be sided in some ways like the bounty hunters can be sided in this...

That is not the case. The lore quite clearly includes, one could even say, focuses on characters who are moving from evil to good and vice-versa. If everyone in SW was either good or evil there would be no story.

Not that I care but without even thinking hard I can come up with: smugglers, traders and the senate. You've got three factions right there that could be good and/or evil if they felt like it.

Bottomline: two factions is a dev or pub choice, not a mandate by the lore.

Star Wars was all about the Empire vs the rebels.   What did you expect?

Anything else would not be consistent with the Star Wars universe.

Well Bioware is making it so it will rock. No doubt there. But it wont be for me if I half to depend on updates/expansions/raids to stay entertained past the highest level. Too soon to say though. But anyone preaching that this will suck has a screw loose and need to rephrase it. "Will suck to my tastes"

Ok why argue? The game is yet to be released. Lets just wait and see:-0

the star wars universe does have more to it than just jedi vs. sith.

i also think it's pretty stupid not to have a neutral faction. cuz i mean, no one in star wars ever changes their mind or anything.

Not having a third faction, to me, means I'll not ever be able to make my own story ...

That means, to me, a game that has the same story ... over ... and over ... and over.

If it's possible to change sides, do I get different powers? different skills? Is everyone going to do it so they can be that "unique and strangely gentle sith ... like SithBob42, SithBob13, SithBob377t, etc ...

And as much as I love Bioware ... really ... all of their games are the pwnsauce ... they are based on a story. That story doesn't really change that much if I play one side or the other. And it certainly won't change if I play two evil sides.

I'm still going to get it. I'm still going to subscribe through the first story telling. But I don't know how many times I'll be able to sit through a "subtle" redirection of your character through the elimination of dialogue possibilities before I get disheartened. If I want to say "No", my character wants to say "No", but the only way to advance to the next level is to say "Yes" ... then do I really even have a "No" option?

  • DarkPonyDarkPony Member Posts: 5,566

I wonder in what manner the possible option to change faction influences the balance between those factions.

Would people change sides to help out the underdog?

Or choose the path of the least resistance and join the dominant faction?

Why do people always say "COPY OF WOW" They should say copy of EQ because thats where WOW got it's template

    EVER QUEST?

    ...   /sigh
    Know your history people.

think you missed the point son

No I was making a new point...  Forgive me for not asking your permission.

Multiple factions can be easily balanced, why?

Just use the same classes for the factions, the way EQ 1 did.

Oh and I'm pretty sure WoW didn't invent the whole "good vs evil" thing....  Why does everyone act like 2 factions is their idea?

Pretty sure that religion has the patent on that.

you really did miss the point, twice, jerid13.

because there is a world of difference in making a reference as to somebody copying something and originating something.

If I changed my forum name to "kruul" I would be copying you, even though it is certain that there are a million forums with their own "kruul's", I wouldn't be copying them  I would be copying you.

In the case of this topic, I believe the OP is using the phrase "copying wow further" in a derogatory manner, and not suggesting that WoW is in any way, shape or form the originator of the 2 faction system.

Put it blunty some people are tired of the same old thing.  Same old kill this, go here, repeat method.  Something new and fresh is a long ways off.  Every game that has tried something new generally went down in the end due to multiple reasons.  Companies, bad managment, and so forth.  Just pick a side or don't play the game.  Theres always something else lined up to come out after.  BTW should blame something else that helped spawn these generic knock offs.  WoW just copied another games design and just knew how to market it correctly.

Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Old Republic vs. the Sith

Star Wars: The Old Republic:  The Old Republic vs. the Sith

Oh man you're right...just like World of Warcraft!   Where could BioWare have possibly gotten the idea to have two major factions competing for dominance in the game?  It couldn't possibly be apart of the established lore from the first two games could it?!

So, don't change a thing from a single player game to an MMO conversion.  Good plan, should be a great MMO.

The cool thing is posts like this will get much more frequent as BioWare unveils more details and more heartbroken SWG vets come here to express their disappointment by attacking this game.

For all the corperations, criminal factions, parent teach gps, the overriding theme of Star Wars has always been good vs evil. Light vs Dark. Thats where the epic thing comes in. BioWare has said they are going with the epic saga thing, vice the "Neutral Moisture farmer ecking out a miserable existance, but having a good time immersed in his deep loving community" thing. Its time to let it go.

Dont you guys mean it copies every paid mmo pretty much, cuase WoW wasn't the first mmo to do good vs evil, and i do believe you choose a side, and change sides depending on your path, unless you guys are getting to hetical, cause you love wow so much.  By the way, bioware is going to make things enjoyable, unless you never played any of their games.  So if you didnt ,stfu.
