I tried it on my laptop and it was pretty weak -- animations seemed forced, textures low-rez, ground clutter and so forth gone.

If you have the rig, this is a great game.

Let me clarify this a little further. Lotro is in fact very easy on system requirements.

LOTRO can be run on a low-end machine as well, on a 5-6 year old gaming PC, say. By gaming PC I mean having a PC that has an old, but decent GPU (Radeon X850XT or such).

Of course, to max it out, you'd need a ca. 2 year old config (such as mine), or newer if DX10.

Laptops are tricky, most of them have GPU's that are not suitable for any kind of gaming whatsoever, so judging a game based on its performance even a on a relatively new laptop can be very misleading.

Yeah my computer is not that good and I can play lotro fine, On my laptop it is a little laggy, I think that having a high end computer means you may beable to enjoy lotro more but it is not required to beable to play and still enjoy the game.

What is defined as a  good system? I know my gtx 295 will run this at 1950x1200 just fine but what about my wifes 9800 gtx? Will it be able to pull off all the eye candy at 1400x900? Just asking, my wife loves her games to look good. I am taking a good look at this game as WoW has been made retarded by the Blizz money grab that is WOTLK.

9800gtx is a good card. Remember LOTRO came out in 2007. She should be fine. Maybe not all the eye candy can be turned on but 90%of it can. Remember LOTRO looks very good with some settings on high. Some of these Ultra high settings are overkill and dont make much of a difference.  The only thing I have on ultra high is the character models.

Plus the view distance goes REALLY far. You can have view distance on medium and see vistas MANY miles away...

What is her processor and RAM?

I played the game for a long time on a 8800GTX with 320 ram. Win XP and 2 gigs of ram on a core 2 duo. Had pretty much everything tweaked way up except AA which I think I set at either 2x or 4x. I got 40 or 50 FPS @ 1680 x 1050 ( I only use a 22 inch monitor)   pretty much everywhere with that set up

    I miss DAoC
