2/10? That is incredibly demianing and nothing short of biased. He probably ran around took some screenshots and got ganked in the process and said "ive had enough" Darkfall is hard to start out cause you need to become self sufficent and this takes time. But i have never had this much fun in a MMO before. Every place you find is new, everything you do is a different experience. There have been few times when ive woken up before class to play a game and this is definitally that kind of game. It all depends what mindset you have in a game. If you flame this game your retarded because your looking at it from a different perspective than its meant to be looked at. This is a different game and people are trying to compare it to the industry standard.
Once again the standard answer.
There is only one way to like DF, and that is your way. Others pay to play the game another way, and will not enjoy it.
That pretty much sums it up. For those who do not like your way of thinking, including your way of labelling everyone else a retarded, DF is bad news for them. Why would you wonder when most people give DF a thumb down and move on? You already said that you and only your kind enjoys DF. There are very few on earth with such a narrow mindset that will immediately label others retarded, simply b/c they are different.
You are different, we know that. You like DF, we know that. Its you who do not understand that we are not your kind, and we do not like DF. Or, you cannot accept that?
Seems a lot of people are gving THEIR review all over again lol.The point of the post was to show that the Eurogamers site used Biased opinions and did not even play the game.It does not matter that i don't thin k DF is much of a game,i will have to side with Tasos here as he did nothing wrong but provide proof that the two writers did not play and gave an UNFAIR biased opinion as i see others in this post doing. I am perhaps a rare type player as i have played so many different games from as long as 20+ years ago, that i can actually tell where a game is going and how good it is in my first day of playing. That is of course ACTUALLY playing outside of the player creation tool.I saw a post in here an obvious biased one where a poster cries foul on the 2/10 yet says DF is 10x better than AOC...ummm ya biased and not worth a grain of salt. People need to stick to the facts in this post,it is all about an improperly done review, witch should give the site a bad name forever after this,i know i would not trust anything they have to say.I also thought Tasos handled this VERY professionally as he gave Eurogamer the chance to not only stop the post, but even after doing so could have removed it.So IMO Tasos responded with proof and when Eurogamer did not like how it was going to make them look, they reacted with a screw you,so Tasos posted this proof to the public ,to show what a Biased and poor review site Eurogamer is.
No, profesional would have been to do what any of the big boys would have done. Ignore it, and move on. He came off as petulant and somewhat desperate. All he did was give some sort of credence to the review by even responding. He should have left it alone and let the "magic" of the game do it's thing, but instead, he opened his mouth, and will draw people that potentially might not have the article to the site. Kudos to you Tasos!
(Seriously, Tasos' proof holds as much water as what the interviewer states as his playtime. For one, logs can be altered, and two, without actually seeing the logs, how do you know he is being truthful? Because we all know the honesty of Tasos...)
Just read the whole review and even though I haven't played the game, it was a ball buster all over. Whether the author was correct or not, that was a hell of a review. I'm sure some of the points he made were true such as the being very familiar with the bind stones, the inventory clutterness, and the constant ganking by some weird named griefer. So it is safe to say that he at least played the game.
Why should anyone cut Tasos and DFO any slack? How many times does Tasos have to prove that he is unprofessional and unqualified for his current job. It was bad enough when he did that last interview here on MMORPG.COM and cried like a petulant child about trolls. Now the guy further hurts an already shaky image by nerdraging over a websites opinion? Cmon Tasos wheres your feature complete and ready to play game, after all according to you, it was ready to play in 06.
Go back to delivering pizzas Tasos, Ive seen 10 year olds project more maturity and professionalism than this boob.
LOL The guy doing the so called "review" Was disinterested from the outset. As if he felt like it was using his time up or something.
He def did'nt want to be playing the game; you can deduce that just by the tone of how he was writing.
He also should never have mentioned other games within his "reviiew". He was to "review" Darkfall and that's where his concentration should have been.
He sounds as if he is/was overly familiar with auto this and auto that as opposed to having to manually do certain tasks whilst under risk of attack. And he definately did not like that.
So much wrong with what he wrote and how he went about "reviewing".
LOL when he said "the few servers Aventurine are running". Yes, he certainly spent a lot of time with DF. I wonder which of those "few" servers he was on? ROFL
If Aventurine are smart, they will get a court order slapped on that euro-trash joint and have them closed or forced to take that crap off their site. And re-imburse all $$ lost due to such crap.
If nothing else, Aventurine may score some free publicity and gain more interest from people wanting to find out about DF and also why they are freaking at the euro-trash peeps.
Good advertising and any publicity is good publicity.

Or, he played it, didn't like and had some strong views, and, this is the crazy thing, a lot of the people doing the "flaming", also played it and did not like it either.
So, in your estimation, there is only one perspective people should be using to look at this game and shouldn't be forming these crazy little opinions of their own? I mean, because we all know everyone should see the glass as half full, right?
1) The word is "demeaning".
2) Get over it. People are going to form opinions, and not all opinions are going to line up with your misguided beliefs.
My "opinion", if you are going to charge big boy prices, and claim your game is the best thing around on the block and more feature complete and ready than anything out there (and Tasos has stated something akin to this before), then get ready to be compared to the big boys and the industry standard.
If you are reviewing a game which a major game review company is going to used, you need to play the game to its fullest and have an unbiased view. Clearly, the writer Eurogamer chose fulfilled neither one of these requirements.
Maybe the reviewer find it worse than death penalty to play that game.
Seriously, I begin to feel how aweful it will be playing that game, with the kind of mindset of the elite few in that game. And to ask the reviewer to put up with those elites for days to end, just to write a summary pretty much most already know, its neither efficient nor good to the mental health of the reviewer. If we wait till the reviewer to finish his full tour of DFO, we may have to wait for a few more months as he grinds/macro afk, or he died of mental disorder and we never know what he went thru.
Oh the other hand, do we know as a fact, that the reviewer does not put in enough efforts? I for one do not take any words from Tasos as proof. On the contrary, whatever he said I will believe in the opposite.

It is still a long way to court, and with the good record of Tasos, I think he better clean up his own act first.
As for good ad, Tasos pretty much sinks his boat, or sunk boat. He has been a laughing stock for years, and his new act maintains that. Publicity for DF? you mean telling ppl what kind of developer is behind DF, and hence stay away even if I am getting paid to play? Nice try.
The point I think you're missing is this: the review is plagued with factual errors. He says things about the game that aren't true. I'm not talking about things that are subjective and left up to opinion, I'm referring to things that are flat out wrong. Things the reviewer would have known were wrong if he had played the game. The reviewer obviously barely played the game.
------
Again, I don't care about Darkfall and I don't play it.
Somehow, those two things don't compute for me.
If you don't play Darkfall, and you don't care about the game, why go so far out of your way to attack a bad review? Also, if you don't play it and have no vested interest in the outcome, how do you know that the reviewer barely played the game? Because of what Tasos said? He doesn't exactly have the best history in that department.
I don't play the game. Have no interest in it, either, since FFA PvP with full loot isn't my scene. However, there's no excuse for a developer nerdraging about a bad review of his own game like this. Schneider looked like a whiny bitch who couldn't take criticism when he took out full page ads decrying the bad review Goldstein gave, and Tasos looks just as bad here by attacking the review instead of saying that everyone is entitled to their opinion and he doesn't think the review was fair, but whatever.
Tasos reacted poorly to a bad review. He should have known better.
Honestly, if they don't compute it's because you aren't understanding my point man. My whole case here isn't about Darkfall. This could just as easily have been a review for Hello Kitty Island Adventures. The game isn't the point. Look past the game for a second. Also don't look at it as me attacking a bad review. It's not a review. The guy doesn't even have proper knowledge of the basic controls of the game, how is his review supposed to be taken seriously?
Eurogamer is a go-to site for a lot of people looking for game reviews. If they are just going to half-ass those reviews then people who count on them are going to be getting a lot of misinformation. That's my issue. That's why I can be angry about this review and still not care about the game.
To people arguing against Eurogamer reporter spending too little time online to judge the game;
If one is not a blind follower, (like I was when I first got into beta, I'll admit that), it doesn't take more than 1 hour to realize that the review is spot on. This game is a disgrace to the computer gaming genre - Aventurine might as well have released a card game or whatnot.

To be fair, Tasos' ranting and raving turns me off worse than their game ever could. DF made its bed with lies and misdirection. Guess what folks, its time to sleep in it.
DFO deserves every low mark it gets, 100 fold, if only to knock down its elitist players back down the same level with the rest of us.

Well, the major review company felt differently, and so did quite a few of the people who read the review. Unfortunately, reviews aren't always nice, and unbiased (though often the bias is placed there by the reader's mind's eye, but I digress, I think you know where that thought is heading). Read some movie reviews, book reviews, product reviews, etc...seriously, search the web, magazines, television...you'll find many not so nice reviews that some will call biased and others will call fair.
He claims he played for 9 or so hours (Tasos claims otherwise, but you can read another post on my thoughts on the ever truthful and trustworthy Tasos' "proof"), and I don't know about you, but after nine hours, I can generally get a feel for where a game is going, and if I want to spend time and money on it. If it doesn't have that magic something to catch my attention, and make me want to come back and play, then guess what? I don't. And that doesn't make my opinion any less valid than someone who did play and felt that magic something, and kept on trucking.
It wasn't his thing, he didn't hold back, and told it how he saw it. Nothing wrong with that. Not all reviews are going to glowing and gushing. It fulfilled the requirements of a review. He played until he had feel for it, and felt he knew what he needed to say. Simple as that.

Exactly and precisely.
After playing enough to realise the game is unplayable, the reviewer can stop and start writing. Do you think she/he need to be so stupid and suffer 20 more days online just to be sure that sh*t stinks?
That is the job of a reviewer, review, not play the game to the end to write a walk thru.
That said, I still need to see solid proof that the reviewer only play for a few minutes. Tasos does not count as proof, he is a counter proof.

QFT, however you have to remember that if its one thing the fanbois avoid at all cost, its logic. For years I called BS on DF, and even when it finally released and i was right on 99% of my predictions, the fanbois still found ways to try and put a positive spin on this disaster.

I was never really into Darkfall, so I'm not sure what they were promising. I remember seeing videos on youtube that made it seem amazing, but I'm not big on the full loot pvp thing. It sounds a lot like Peter Molyneux in the build up to Fable though. Promising so much that you knew he would fall short.
Thing is though, you have to review the product not the creator. I wouldn't give a Guns and Roses album a bad review just because Axl Rose is a douche.

I could have spent 9 hours playing warhammer online and would have only experienced tier 1. Tier 1 was a blast. PVP was fun and I received these cool abilities. Now lets say I based my review on only my experience in tier 1. You think ANY warhammer player that progressed past tier 1 that read my review would have said "yea this guy knows what hes talking about?" I doubt it. These aren't single player console games. MMORPGs experience evolves and expands the more you progress.
I hated Darkfall, but I actually played it. From the short time I played the game I can tell that it is apparent that the idiot who wrote this article never even played it.
EDIT: Wow, what a terrible sentence. I'm too tired to try and fix it so screw it.

I like Michael Jackson =(
long as you are under 12, im sure the feeling is mutual. bam!
That aside, in response to another post. if a game doesnt grab you when you start playing, why should you spend hours trying to get the point where you can enjoy it?
If I spend 9 hours playing an MMO, and I dont like it, I certainly dont feel like continuing the torture.
I hated Darkfall, but I actually played it. From the short time I played the game I can tell that it is apparent that the idiot who wrote this article never even played it.
You offer an opinion to refute a review. Except that you offer a line, while he at least tried to write up a full page, with information that are confirmed by many other players posting here.
Do you think you can contribute more? solid information? We know you like DF, but that does not in anyway sway our doubts about DF.
I would give a low score to a company who for years made promises then not only fell short, but fell down face first resulting in a slow bleeding head wound. Tasos represents DFO, and hes represented it about as well as Michael Jackson represents the human race.

Exactly.. like I said before I played Vanguard for 5 minutes before I uninstalled it..9/10 people agree that game is garbage. Just from the entire history the look of the game and lack of content and videos, I could play the game 3 1/2 minutes and give the same valid review.

As a player/consumer it's fine to make snap judgements like that but when writing a review you have to note the good and the bad. And the good and the bad has to be more than "The Good: I'm never playing it again, The Bad: I lost 3 1/2 minutes of my life".
I haven't played Darkfall, and I don't like the fantasy genre.
In my opinion, it doesn't matter who is lieing. The correspondent did a very bad job from the start.
Allough's review policy:
If its a niche game, play it from the angle its supposed to be approached, even if its the angle I don't like.
Play the game for 30 days, at least 2 hours a day.
Play at least 50% of that time with a guild.
Be honest in every detail.
____ Otherwise its a bad review.
((The game I'm writing for right now? Its got bad graphics. But it was never built with people who like graphics in mind. It was built for people who like pen and paper RPG's. I'm a sucker for graphics, I love LOTRO, but I still give SQO a good rating because for its niche, you won't find another as good or even close.))
Really, these aren't single player console games? I must be in the wrong forum...
Look, many MMORPGs evolve and expand the more you progress, I get, agree and understand that. Yet, if in the first 9 hours, the game has not done it's job, and the intial mechanics and gameplay haven't left me with that feeling of, "Well, that was fun and refreshing, what else is there to do, and what else can I experience?", then I am probably not going to continue on, and will probably not recommend the game to anyone.
Tier one was a blast in Warhammer, you progressed, and then what happened? How far did you make it before continuing on, and experiencing all the game has to experience? Heck, maybe you have. Maybe you are still playing? Then again, maybe not. Maybe you experienced something you didn't like, you found things to be not really to your liking, and maybe you quit before experiencing everything the game had to offer (all of the races/classes/zones/etc.). Maybe this has happened in other MMO's you have tried as well, maybe not, but then again, some people have a higher tolerance for things they don't like than do others.
The point being, there comes a time when people can only play/watch/read something they don't connect with for so long, before realizing it's not for them, and choose to move on. If he enjoyed the game, or found some spark that connected to him, then maybe he would have continued and seen the "diamond in the rough"...but obviously it didn't connect, and it doesn't connect with everyone. To my understanding, at least what I gather from the fanboys, Tasos and crew wanted a niche game. A game that would cater to the tastes of a small cross section of the gaming community, so honestly, bad reviews should come as no surprise, they are after all not out to please everyone, right? They should be happy with their niche, why should they care what a major website has to say about them? "Niche" games aren't meant to appeal to everyone.
He evolved and progressed as much as his tolerance would allow, and found the game lacking. His opinion. It is what it is.

LOL The guy doing the so called "review" Was disinterested from the outset. As if he felt like it was using his time up or something.

Good advertising and any publicity is good publicity.
Nice try.
To people arguing against Eurogamer reporter spending too little time online to judge the game;
If one is not a blind follower, (like I was when I first got into beta, I'll admit that), it doesn't take more than 1 hour to realize that the review is spot on. This game is a disgrace to the computer gaming genre - Aventurine might as well have released a card game or whatnot.
Somehow, those two things don't compute for me.

Or, he played it, didn't like and had some strong views, and, this is the crazy thing, a lot of the people doing the "flaming", also played it and did not like it either.

Or, he played it, didn't like and had some strong views, and, this is the crazy thing, a lot of the people doing the "flaming", also played it and did not like it either.

If I spend 9 hours playing an MMO, and I dont like it, I certainly dont feel like continuing the torture.
Exactly.. like I said before I played Vanguard for 5 minutes before I uninstalled it..9/10 people agree that game is garbage.
