HE ONLY PLAYED FOR 3 MINUTES!

Really? Well he sure got a damn good look at the game for 3 minutes. Hell, he didnt even slam on you for your lack of any form of a functional economy.

Ex-Darkfall player here, and while I think the reviewer was extremely sarcastic and down right mean about his review... I have a hard time finding anything that was to far off base...

One thing is for sure.....Darkfall will get alot of attention : )

Tasos might not be as stupid as we want him to be.

I find it very unprofessional that Tasos posted that message.  A developer attacking a reviewer (even if the reviewer is a complete idiot) and revealing information about an account  is one of the worst thing a game developer can do.  I do realize that much of what Tasos writes is correct, but it is not proper for a developer to do that.  It would be like someone at Bethesda/Capcom (or whoever) saying the reviewer of at such and such is a idiot and a liar.  That kinda just rubs me the wrong way as it comes off looking like a group of whiny little turds.
A professional company that felt they were wronged by a reviewer would release a statement or post a message fixing the contradictions, but would not attack the reviewer and call them a liar.   Post the corrections explain but do not give out account information to prove your point nor should you attack the reviewer.
You would think that Tasos and everyone over there would have grown some tough skin do to the amount of dislike/hate this game get, but no they act like a little kid.

What planet do you come from?

Listen, as a large media organisation you simply can not post a load of lies that could prove financially damaging to another company unless they are built on fact. And if Tasos is to be believed this review is build upon fiction, not fact. I would not be suprised if this ends up in court, if it were my game I would be at my solicitors office first thing in the morning.

It's one thing playing a game for 10 hours and then writing a scathing review, but based on the account logs, it would seem this reviewer simply did not play the game.

Oh and am not a fan boy, I ain't even played the game and have no intention of doing so. BTW google the reviewers name and you will find another scandal about his review of Guitar Hero II, it seems this guy is a total idiot and why a site like EG use him is totally beyond me.

I love Darkfall and all, but it's hard to believe anything out of Tasos' mouth.

What if the guy had his own account or had played on a friends account?   Just because the 2 accounts they were given for reviews weren't used doesnt mean the guy didn't play.  And frankly I'd trust just about anyone or anything over Tasos at this point.

I dont mean what he says, i mean what he does. Darkfall gets a really bad review, and Tasos make a "reality show escape" in the end. Everyone will be talking about it. Just the talk about Tasos tellig the truth or not will make headlines. Then if the review is "fake" or not..then why? and so on.

    This is just the beginning.

I think people are focusing on the minute issues.

A lot of what the guy said, could be assumed by a new player...I mean there is no guide, manual, or tutorial.

Does the UI suck? Yes. Its clunky and has lots of issues.

Is the game extremely harsh on new players? Yes.

Is the combat system rough, and rather nasty specifically melee wise to keep yourself from being exposed to the alignment issues? Yes

All of these are valid points... as I stated before, he didnt bring up the horrible customer service, the lack of scaling (as in they still have one server even after 3 months and 15,000 purchases, lack of a functional economy, skills not working, skills not gaining power as you gain skill, broken skills, missing content, lack of a functional main website.... and on and on.

If you want to take this guy to court for lying, what about false advertising? Hmm?

Go take a gander at darkfalls homepage, read up on the things darkfall supposedly offers...there is a TON of stuff that is not in game atm, and the website says it is. I do believe thats called false advertising yes?

Tasos should get his shit together and focus on the game , fix whats broken or missing  before everything explodes in his face.

Bad review so what ...get over it , in fact youve to live with it  period . Fearing the game will lose reputation cuz of 1 review , he actualy admits that the game has already a bad rep and cant live up to more.

    Less mimimimimi more working ...

Except that if another big site does a review that mirrors this one, you can pretty much put a fork in DF.

It'll add even more weight to this current review and make Tasos, Av, and the game look 1000x worse.

And I personally expcet the next one big one, as long as it's not from this site (I don't think I've ever read any really bad reviews on this site) to mirror Eurogamers review.

I don't think people really get the importance of getting FPS mechanics right in a game that uses FPS combat.

There is no room to get it wrong, and Av got it dead wrong.  I have never seen a review forgive a game for using poor FPS combat.

Sorry about that, I have no idea why I quoted you in the first place, I think I had some reason, then it faded when I notice lol.

The guy didn't even play the damn game.   It would be like giving a review of the movie when you only stood in the lobby and ate a tub of popcorn.

Of course Tasos had to come out and say something.

That's IF Tasos is credible. And looking at the past history, it's safe to say the reviewer did infact play the game.

Tasos said that the game was feature complete and ready for release on Aprill 11, 2008.  He also said that the mob AI were living in the world, skilling up as the players do.

    None of that was true.

So I'm supposed to believe Tasos when he says they can prove the guy didn't play the game?

    He's a liar himself.

I will never again read anything from them - and I am far from a DF fanboy (I have played the game, so I know what it is like, and that review was out to damage DF).

Careful parts of the sky may hit you, get your tinfoil hat out. . .

I have no reason to believe Tasos either, if he wants to prove that his game is not a pile then release free trials.

    QFT.

Guys you do understand that they have more demand than server capacity?

    They don't need a trial.

Whoever is playing the game is enjoying it.

They have mer demand than server capacity because the have substandard capacity, not because the game is uber succesful.... give me a break.

The review does sound superficial (not covering siege mechanics and naval warfare for example), yet why is Aventurine giving the review attention? That's just stupid, now more and more people will read it and laugh at the lack of professionalism from both sides as well. If it bothers them that much, ignoring would be a better option.

If they want to counter the review, make it easier for more game reviewers to get access (it's nice because it also serves as advertising), the ones with a proper reputation at least, and don't even get me started with the "you have to pay to get reviews", look at this gem: www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/stalinvsmartians/review.html . Maybe they're already playing and trying all gameplay possibilities in order to form a good review, who knows, I'm waiting for real reviews.

But Tasos never ceases to amuse me.

Pretty brutal of Eurogamer if you ask me. I really don't think any mainstream game should receive lower than a 3of10.

A reason they might've not been able to play for so long is that the game is so terrible they couldn't stand to stay logged in for that long.

Well we are talking Tasos king of Spin, misinformation and outright lies. (ie We will never put out a release date we can't keep. The game is more stable and ready now (Dec 08) then most games a month after release. DF will have a open beta where players can try it for free, We will never resort to taking pre-orders. The game is being tested by AI, and paid proffessional beta tester it will not need a long beta etc. The game will be released in 2008, etc etc etc. and these are just the recent ones Tasos has years of BS coming out of his mouth.)

You can't get started, because there is nothing to start about. No inaccuracies, but a whole lotta fail coming from Darkfall.

Head over to the DF boards, they have already slammed the review enough.

Factual errors happen from the first line to the last.

There, I did half of your homework for you. Can you do the rest and go read on DF boards yourself? Or are you too lazy to do that as well?

Actually we've already seen how inaccurate your information is in the thread about the reviewer. Lets just say maybe you should redo some of your homework as so far your getting a F.

Brutal? After 10 years of dicking around this is what darkfall deserves.. after all its deception.. after all the bugs and poor gameplay

Tasos should shut his mouth because getting a rating like that is his own fault

  • grimalgrimal Member UncommonPosts: 2,935

Honestly, just ask yourself this question: who has more to benefit from their position?

The reviewer by writing a bad review of an independent game or Tasos by trying to ruin the reviewer's credibility?  Answer seems obvious to me.

  • mindw0rkmindw0rk Member UncommonPosts: 1,356

Im game journalist myself and gave Darkfall low mark too. I cant name a single MMO element which is done well in DF. So instead flaming writers I would advice devs to spend their time working.
