Now if FFXVI is set up like an MMO I do not think thats a good thing because more the merryier.  On the bright side someone with a monster PC will not have a technical advantage of an average PC everyone is playing with the same hardware. only thing that matters now is your net connection. I actually like that idea more I think about it.

Read the post like three above yours. The official site for the game states PS3 is the only console it is on, but is also for the PC. On the console it is exclusive to the PS3, meaning no PS2, XBOX, or XBOX360.

    This is exciting news!

I cannot wait.  I am really going to be looking forward to this and following along with the production.  If it's anywhere near as good as FFXI, then I'm going to be having a lot of fun.

    Yaaaay!!!!

And I bet it's going to be really cool on the PS3 as well.

ya then its not truely not a ps3 exclusive. There getting tricky with their wording adding exceptions in. In the end its a good thing its on PC too because like I said more the merrier and theres no doubt that the majority of MMO'ers are PC players.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
    Now Playing: N/A
    Worst MMO: FFXIV
    Favorite MMO: FFXI

As consoles progress and their online modes get better I wouldn't be surprised to see MMOs start making their way onto consoles and the population shift.  It has happend with FPS's there's no reason it wont with MMOs.  Argue all you want but developers would rather make games for consoles rather than pc's.  Unless your name is Blizzard.

EDIT: By the way, that music on the site is so perfect, it is the victory music that we have all been waiting to hear that our new MMO has come! :D

Honestly man, I think they expect us to assume that the game will release on the PC.  The majority of games do.  Halo is considered an X-Box exclusive, but it's on the PC.  Final Fantasy VII was called a PS exclusive, but was on the PC.  It's been this way for years.

Someone already analysis and say FFIV is going to related to FFXI.

At least the logo did show, a tarutaru again! within the 5 character on the logo.

Watching the video, it look very much like a galka (the whole body build) and a mithra when the blackmage look a like cast a "shield" and there is the Elvaan "pointy" ear beside the chocobo.

my guess is FFXI might be portable to FFXIV as part of the game going to future  ...like chrono trigger?

I'm exicted as hell for this, about time they showed some light on this.

Also, I only read the first few posts and people were asking if its ps3 only, someone linked to http://e3.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/696090/E3-2009-Sony-Press-Conference-Final-Fantasy-XIV-Online-Coming-Exclusively-To-PS3-In-2010.html

On that site it says: "Sony dropped a bit of a bomb at its E3 press conference by revealing Final Fantasy XIV Online. Perhaps even bigger for Sony fans is that the game will be a Sony exclusive, and will be released in 2010. Given that FF XIII is expected early next year, this announcement is easily one of the most surprising of E3 so far. Well done, Sony.

Update: Well...maybe not totally exclusive. According to Square Enix's press release, Final Fantasy XIV Online will also be available on PC. So it's a Sony console exclusive, anyway. Check out the game's official site."

So cheers to everyone! Can't wait for more info on this.

This totally blew my mind, I never knew Sony would have a ticking time bomb to blow off at E3 like this lol. Awesome move by then I must say.  I can't wait to get my hands into this game and check it out.

I don't share the same thoughts on grouping.I think the group play is exactly what an online MMO should be.The FFXI community was always the best because of this,it forces people to get along.

I am glad SOE and the PS3 is getting the core of the console market.I would bet ,there was not enough XBOX interest in FFXI,to warrant an up front xbox version.

I think Square learned a lot from their mistakes in FFXI and will have a much better game. The higher tech will make it a lot more intriguing to more players.

The only thing i am worried about,is the combat,i hope they don't make a drastic change for the worse.I liked the combat as it was,but it could have been taken a lot further in the SAME direction, not a different direction. If Square tries to turn it into a solo friendly game, that would tell me ,they would be utilizing multiple characters for each player.I never liked that type of game much, even worse for an MMO.

You cannot have it both ways,it is either a solo game or a grouping game, trying to appease both makes for a cheaper combat system. That is not the only thing that would totally ruin the FF type of game.It would mean no more tanks,no more anything really, the game would allow each player to do everything, witch would really dumb down game mechanics and eliminate the class system.Eliminating all that ,and you have a VERY cheap game, with no meaning,no nothing ,just a jack of all trades game, master of nothing.

I have a lot of confidence in Square, but you just never know, who and what influences a developers decisions. It could have a ton of players like us hanging on for two years,to be totally dissapointed. So i will not get too over excited until i hear and see more.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

FF 13 was a PS3 excluive too :), and so was the Metal Gear series.

Wrong on MGS. MGS Rising was announced by Hideo yesterday for the 360, however, no mention of the word "exclusive". Probably be on both consoles, but no confirmation that I've seen. The only thing I've seen today was MGS: Peace Walker for the PSP/PSP Go!. Looks damn pretty tho :)

How is he wrong on Metal Gear? He said exactly what you did...it used to be a Sony exclusive and now it's not anymore.

Yeah, and I admitted my mistake here, http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/2863384, post #49.

there in lies the sticking point...the PS3 has such a lack of JRPGS for NA/EU audiences it's not even funny...I'm not sure about their "home" market..but they've completely abandoned the genre outside of Japan. It's sad really because I only really bought the PS2 for that type of game so until they pick up steam I don't see me buying a PS3 anytime soon.

Another FF MMO? I can promise it'll be pretty but it's overall collectivist mentality will kill it for most NA/EU gamers unless they tune it towards us.

That and the price is why i went with Xbox 360 instead of PS3. when I found out FFXIII wasn't going to be exclusive to PS3 plus seen the stack of JRPGs available for Xbox 360, that's when I hung up my Playstation fanboi hat.

I actually gave up on PS3 and traded it in, and went over to the darkside, XboX 360, due to the severe lack of RPG's on the sony side of things.. I have supported sony with PS 1, and PS2 and never had any other console, until this year.   Over two years of waiting for good RPG's on PS3 was too long, and I've given up all hope I had for Sony.... I wash my hands of them.

That's what it looks like to me and in the trailer it says : You must join hands..... Once again.

Sure that might not mean anything at all, but sounds sequel-like to me. Maybe it's like a parallel universe! ^_^

Perhaps this game will quench the thirst in this MMORPG drought.

  • curiindicuriindi Member Posts: 488

This announcement just made my day, week, month, or maybe year!

Goodness, I'm like a fanboi right now even though all that is available are the trailer and website. In retrospect, FFXI was the best fit to my taste out of all the online titles so far, so I'm fine with trusting Square Enix that FFXIV will be good at this point.

The sad part is that it will most likely ruin my experience with Aion. I've been interested in Aion for a while now, and when it was pushed to this fall I mentioned before that I'm afraid an announcement like this would totally pull my attention away. I had a thought in the back of my mind that I'll be spending at least a year in Aion. I don't think that is the case anymore. :(
