.... the trolls and haters who say this game won't make it in the US market.
This game I don't think can stand up to the western gamer's level of A.D.D.
But who really cares about the western haters always bashing every new game that comes out; it's the same at every mmo launch? They are a mini.... sorry, a "micro" market.
What many here are calling the "top of the line" mmos can barely manage to get between 10k to 300k players... what is this? A drop in the ocean?
Ok, the minority likes things to be different.... good to know.
Ahhh.. yes, the western world has 1 game: Wow. With 11m players (how many of those are in NA?).
Crytek engine is 5 years old. One of the first things I felt in the game was, wow , the trees are a huge fail. Recycled from Guild Wars. The water is like Lineage 2 , My character can't swim. THe texture maps wow, so classic to Lineage 2, with a slight wowish hint on the architecture. The performance of the game was amazing, cause it is a half decade old game engine running on next gen computers. If you love Korean style mmo , that are a cross from grind and questing with a pretty open field of doing either or, then you will love this game. For myself after getting to level 3 , grinding, with no really motivation from the opening content to continue, I just logged off. For me the direction of who I am , or what my race is about in the first opening llevels are what pull me in. I've grinded before, I have done mediocre quests before, and I've flown before ,in a game as dated as Shadowbane. NcSoft is failing to get something fresh, and Aion is a mix bag of nuts of everything they done before.
Well if you are expecting that much, demanding hi-res trees with 500k polygons each, displacement maps on everything, ambient occlusion for your visual hunger etc, then you are playing the wrong game, MMO isnt your type. Aion, simply said, is bringing some favorites in other games and improve it.
You do flying in Shadowbane but can you accomplish a fluid combat in mid air? NCSOFT did not fail, its the players that fail to understand.
Some people should just not play MMO's, There mind set is just not cut out for it.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

Ahhh.. yes, the western world has 1 game: Wow. With 11m players (how many of those are in NA?).
There are probably more NA players playing Free Realms than WoW at the moment.
What most WoW lovers fail to recognize is that the largest majority of these "11 million" subscribers is on the other side of the world.
But it is sad, NA does have only one MMO and that is WoW.. That's because it is forced down your throat. Walk into any store and look at computer games, you'll be lucky to find any MMO other than WoW on the shelf.. And usually its a big fukin display to boot. Hell, there are a ton of people out there who don't even know anything other than WoW exists. Sad, but true. I give Blizzard credit, they even have free trial discs at the damn checkout in WalMart.
Market saturation at its finest. Also, WoW is many peoples first MMO, so every new one is compared to it. So, when they log into AION and realize "What, no arena e-peening and rep grinds with naked NE chicks?!" <delete> + <flame>
I don't think AION is a bad game, but I will stand by my statement that it will not thrive in the US market because of the exact mentality of a US MMO Player. Most people complain they want something new, but when its given to them they shyte on it.
Hey TSW Players http://www.unfair.co/ for Mission guides, Lore Locations and stuff....
I'll go over my impressions really fast. I'm not here to write a review, I'm not qualified to do that and I won't pretend to be, I'm just goint to point out issues which bother me a lot and eventually disappointed me. I didn't expect the game to be great, but it I didn't expect it to be bad either, I was wrong, it's really not a very impressive game.
positive: *game runs very well *interface is nice to use *music is quite good *graphics are ok, much less good than Aion trailers, but still not bad
negative *Very standard MMO....... kills 10 of X, collect 4 of Y to be expected of ANY MMORPG *No goal or reason to be there......, you feel like you're dropped into a world where you don't belong what are you basing this off of? * text is mediocre at best.........., it's definately translated by people not used to MMO, the language and terminology used isn't impressive i found no errors.... *Combat is very boring........... for the first 10 levels, you get very few abilities not true, you get a new ability at level 3, 5, 7, 10... *Game is a grind............, maybe I've played too many MMO, but <target mob> <kill mob> <target mob> <kill mob>..is what you'll be doing for about 4 hours non-stop to get to level 10 yes you are going to do that in any mmo that has kill quests... *NPC's did not speak to me (sound)................, maybe they will fix this, I don't know odd, i heard them speak, was kinda annoying actually... *Players are mostly just soloing,........... no real incentive to group, maybe this will change in later levels, I don't know mostly soloing cause 2000 people logged in at once in the starter are, all wanting to grind up to 20 asap.... *Places you start in are way too small,......... too many players all dumped into starting places, you feel like a person trapped in a box any MMO has a starting area where EVERYONE starts the game... *No real story..........., almost no lore, I felt lost? and it felt a bit pointless to be there did you even READ the text from the quests? *There's something wrong with the game's horizontal vision,..... imagine looking through a camera and missing a good part of the side view of the world, that's what it's like when playing Aion, they restrict vision to the left and right theres an option to "enhance" the horizontal view that helps...
If I had to give it a score? Shrug, I guess 4/10. Anyway, I hope this helps, yes it's a very negative review, but that's how I felt about the game. i give it an 8/10 because the constant voice spam from spells annoys me...btw i am running on max settings and the game is beautiful.

And what many WoW haters fail to realise is that, when World of Warcraft announced 10 million subscriber, they revealed that 2.5 million active subscribers are in NA, 2 million are in Europe and 5.5 are in asia.
This means that World of Warcraft completely dwarfs every other mmorpg on the market even if you take only the NA and European numbers, or even just the North Americans.
Are there more players playing Free realms? Not a snowball chance in hell. Free Realms has reported 2 million registrations, not active players. World of Warcraft has reported 2.5 million active (as in active accounts) subscribers.
Places you start in are way too small,......... too many players all dumped into starting places, you feel like a person trapped in a box. This is my problem right now. It's not a bad game though, however there's really nothing special about it either so far.
agreed with this, its nothing revolutionary, the graphics are good, but no one is reinventing the wheel here, but the server hasn't crashed and I havent ran into any bugs yet but with so many people trying to do the same thing at once it's hard to judge the game when your waiting more than playing.

Sorry to butt hurt you on your MMO of choice.
Hey TSW Players http://www.unfair.co/ for Mission guides, Lore Locations and stuff....
I think the problem is that Aion other than flying doesn't really bring much new to the mmo table. Granted it might be well polished but it seems just by reading the posts here it is pretty much the same old questing system we have seen many times before. I still think Aion will be fun to play and they key word here is "polish" unlike so many other mmos we have seen over the past year fail because they release broken games, Aion will not be broken at launch.
Except, the CE Version wings are cool for the US release, I honestly just don't want to deal with the type of idiots who will be playing the US version
You might want to do what I do in that situation and play the EU servers. I find the communities on them to be much more pleasant.

*Very standard MMO....... kills 10 of X, collect 4 of Y
You clearly did not play past the newbie island. That island you start on is just for yout o familiarize yourself with the game. There are a lot of different quests out there.
*No goal or reason to be there......, you feel like you're dropped into a world where you don't belong
Same comment, you did not finish the newbie island, if you are reading the main quests, and if you have finished the newbie island, you would understand your story, and you would have previews one of the best character story videos in any game out there, you see yourself in an air combat with your enemy, it's really something.
* text is mediocre at best.........., it's definately translated by people not used to MMO, the language and terminology used isn't impressive
This is beta, they said that they have not really started working on the translations, and they will adapt the texts to the NA customers. So be patient
*Combat is very boring........... for the first 10 levels, you get very few abilities
Like every other game out there, you actually get more abilities than a lot of games out there, at lvl 5 having 5-7 abilities is a lot. How many you want? 50 abilities?
*Game is a grind............, maybe I've played too many MMO, but <target mob> <kill mob> <target mob> <kill mob>..is what you'll be doing for about 4 hours non-stop to get to level 10
Again, it's the same with every game out there, on the newbie areas, it's all about grinding mobs, either through quests or not.
*Players are mostly just soloing,........... no real incentive to group, maybe this will change in later levels, I don't know
Man, you must be new to mmorpgs. This is a 3 day beta, people are on their first day, they will not group, they are trying out the different classes and gameplay. You can judge that on release of the game.
*Places you start in are way too small,......... too many players all dumped into starting places, you feel like a person trapped in a box
Again, you probably have not played other mmos, the starting zone is the same as any other starting zone, even bigger. The reason you feel that is because you got 5k people who signed for beta starting at the same time. It is normal that the newbie zones are crowded.
*No real story..........., almost no lore, I felt lost? and it felt a bit pointless to be there
Well it is normal if you are not reading the main quests, it's also normal you not finding any lore if you start critiquing the game after 2 hours on the newbie island.
Also if you want to see how good the graphics are, buy a better computer. I have the game in front of me, and the graphics are really good.
I really dislike people who come on the forums and give their point of view on a game before even trying it. And no, you have not played the game more than 2 hours, I can guarantee that. It's an mmorpg, play it until you get out of the newbie island, go around the city, talk to NPCs, get quests, try the crafting system (which is really nice), follow the main storyline, try some PvPing (this game is all about PvP), try some flying around, and then come back and give your opinion.
It's strange, but to be honest I'm going to have to agree with the OP. The graphics in the trailers really looked spectacular, but for some reason when I got in game, had everything on high, maxed my resolution, tried out all three types of bloom - It didn't look any where near as good, kind of made me sad.
I'm running: SLI 9800 GT 512s.
The quests, I was expecting more story-driven quests, but that's not happened yet. As of now, I'm level 7, and hoping for a much better experience once I hit 10+, we'll see though.

Ahhh.. yes, the western world has 1 game: Wow.
This can all be found in the press releases.
Sorry to butt hurt you on your MMO of choice.
Hey TSW Players http://www.unfair.co/ for Mission guides, Lore Locations and stuff....
QFT !
Sorry , I just had to repost this. )
You might want to do what I do in that situation and play the EU servers. I find the communities on them to be much more pleasant.
- RPG Quiz - can you get all 25 right?
- FPS Quiz - how well do you know your shooters?
