You cant just steotype fans of 2 games like you did... fans of games will have alot of different personalities and how they respond will be very much different like people are different. So no he didne prove you right or wrong, broad generalizations are always bad and not very constructive way to go about things. When you write something especially critics, try to see how you whould react if someone did the same to a game you really where excited about, this way youd probaly end up with a better post that people can react to much better.

On the 3 days of beta testing the game I leveled:

    Level 16 Templar

    Level 14 Sorcerer

    Level 11 Ranger

Only class I didnt like so much was the Ranger but I heard it gets alot more fun after level 20 or so.  I enjoyed the game overall, no game is perfect. And I will sure play in retail it will be lots of fun.

I've been waiting Aion for almost 1 year. I joined the preview weekend and I was very happy.  Even tough the textures weren't perfect you can't expect to have everything at max fighting hundred people in the Abyss. It was hard at start to find a mob because of so many people at the same time, but they added channels  there were 7 channels at the end, if there were no mobs I just changed channels, in the last levels I leveled in group ( with my legion ) it was great. Yes, there are few skills  but it's normal at start, my char is growing it's not powerful yet. I wasn't immersed in the story because of the no starting cutscene and I didin't read the quests, I will let that for retail. There were some  text  that wasn't very translaetd but I didin't mind. I loved the mobs fighting other mobs, and quests for morning / night.  The different options : Hand the ring to the woman or to the man, pay 10,000 kinah to learn krall or follow other quests. The classes were more balabced then I expected for pvp, I could win against an assassin ( I was Chanter).  There are some things I didin't like but I'm sure they will fix them : can't swim etc. I actually liked the crafting I don't usually craft on other MMOs, and the chance of having crit sucess for better item was great. Also the fact that there was no twin of me. They could put more colours to dye. True, I didin't find anything unique, but it was very polished. They must add a tutorial aswell.

    I'm waiting for more!

This is true. They did say that it was going to be a standard mmo. But with the exception of some of the story line bits in cut scenes it is a standard mmo.
*No goal or reason to be there......, you feel like you're dropped into a world where you don't belong
This is not exactly true. If you read the text it says that you just awoke if from a bad dream and you don't know what's happening. The person who first greets you is not interested in hearting about your dream but puts you to work as you are a mercenary. It is then through the rest of the starter area (which is essentially tutorial) that you learn more about why your memory is gone.
    * text is mediocre at best.........., it's definitely translated by people not used to MMO, the language and terminology used isn't impressive

I think that medocre at best is a bit strong. There are some odd words here or there such as "ruffians" but it works. It's not Norman Mailer true.
*Combat is very boring........... for the first 10 levels, you get very few abilities
Most mmo's are similar to that though.
    *Game is a grind............, maybe I've played too many MMO, but <target mob> <kill mob> <target mob> <kill mob>..is what you'll be doing for about 4 hours non-stop to get to level 10
Not sure what your definition of a grind is but I played L2 for 4+ years. This game is NOT a grind.
*NPC's did not speak to me (sound)................, maybe they will fix this, I don't know
I think that some of this will be fixed in the future but I don't believe we are going to get an EQ 2 "every npc" is voiced type of thing. If you noticed the voice packs at character creation were not working as well.
*Players are mostly just soloing,........... no real incentive to group, maybe this will change in later levels, I don't know
This is true though we did do a bit of grouping at the head wolf's cave. I had made a healer and was helping everyone who came in. Still, this type of game speaks perfectly to my play style and that is mostly soloing. However, there are later boss fights and of course the pvp of which we saw none this weekend.
*Places you start in are way too small,......... too many players all dumped into starting places, you feel like a person trapped in a box
Again, that is a bit strong. I didn't get that feeling. It's not huge in the starter area but it felt about average.
*No real story..........., almost no lore, I felt lost? and it felt a bit pointless to be there
see above. There is a story.
*There's something wrong with the game's horizontal vision,..... imagine looking through a camera and missing a good part of the side view of the world, that's what it's like when playing Aion, they restrict vision to the left and right
I didn't get that but i'm playing on a 1920 X 1200 wide screen monitor and had it set accordingly

If I had to give it a score? Shrug, I guess 4/10. Anyway, I hope this helps, yes it's a very negative review, but that's how I felt about the game.
    Well that's fair enough

I think some players were expecting some sort of savior to mmo'ing but Aion is a very good traditional mmo in the EQ, EQ2, WoW, LOTRO way but with a more expanded pvp game than some of the one's I've mentioned. We didn't get to experience that part as of yet so it seems a bit unfair to evaluate the game on a preview event where people didn't get to experience the true thrust of the game.

The game felt to me to be a mix of Wow, Guild Wars and Lineage 2.

    Hows that for a blend.

It had a WoW feelign of playing, a Guild Wars feeling with the cut scenes and story and the feel of the characters were a bit GW /L2.

Also, there are so many iittle bits of humor as well.

For instance, there is a quest where you are told that the frill necks are invading an area and they have been causing troubles. You are then taken to a cut scene where you see a Frill Neck posturing and screaming. Normally these cut scenes just show a scene and you are back intot the game.

But in this one, suddenly the frill neck runs toward you, gets really close and then there are some very close up quick movements as if it was attacking you. Suddenly, the "camera" shakes and falls to the side as if there was an actual camera man that was was taken out. I couldn't stop lauging!

This may already have been adressed here, and I know for a fact it's been brought up in earlier threads:  This is an asian version.  It is extremely pointless to review a game that wasn't made for you.  This is like watchin a bootlegged movie and critquing the plot of the movie based on the film quality.

Idk whether your European or NA, but in the north american release the xp requirements are being changed to be a bit more tailored to Americans' taste.  You won't have to deal with the silly errors in translation because this time it will be done more professionally.  Honestly, I'd like to thank whomever it was who did the translating this time around because atleast it gave me the opportunity to get a feel for the game, who cares that everything didnt translate quite well- I've had no problems navigating because of it.  I went in with an open mind, liked it, and this is mostly because all the while Ive been keeping in mind that this version isn't for us, it's not tailored to my tastes.  Be grateful you got to play early, my goodness, and also keep in mind that all this time we have to wait for NA release, they are tweeking, translating, and tailoring to fit a more English speaking player base.

As for the whole- it's just like every other mmo- jazz.  What is it your looking for?  What ideas could they possibly come up with that havent been thought of before??  All you can really hope for are good variations on a theme, and there are only so many ways you can branch off.

There's content, crafting, harvesting, pvp, raiding (though i havent gotten that far yet)  And I personally like the fact that it's a challenge.  Leveling is slower?  Good, Crafting is really indepth?  Good, because I don't want to get bored.

Are there things that bug me about the game?  Sure, i think everyone comes to a point where they say "it'd be cool if they did this, or changed that"  But overall Im very impressed and it makes me all the more impatient to get my hands on my Pre-Order Aion NA

The settings where full blast on my friends pc and it is was just mediocre, at best.
This game is aReleased title, pulling the same bullshit NcSoft over and over with these "closed NA" beta , the game is released, in Korea so anyone has the right to review it, they made no attempt to cater tio NA, we are just a sales figure.

hmmm, sorry solareus but I  completely disagree.

graphics are not dated at all.

This game is not anything like Lineage 2 other than an Asian influence. Lineage 2 does not do everything that Aion does. Or vice versa. Two different games. I don't recall, in any of the 4+ years of playing L2 thinking that I could very well lvl with just quests.

Also the word beta is just semantics. They were called preview events. They just changed the word. Lord knows why.

And you are also way off base as it not being up to par with Vanguard, Warhammer. this game is a lot more polished than Warhammer. And though Vanguard has a great exploration game to it, it also plays as a different type of game.

EQ is an older game so I don't see the comparison. If anything this game compares with LOTRO or WoW with a sort of L2 take with the pvp and sieges.

If you don't like it great. No worries. But I don't agree with your assessment.

Lineage II, everyone hated in the English market and yet look....darn near 1 million subscribers. Seems like this game won't fail like the Age of Conan and Warhammer brothers.

Yes, it's not meant as a review. I did point out positive issues and negative issues, it's how I felt about the game. I don't write a review because I never played beyond lvl 20 and I'll admit that. But first impressions count for me and if I'm not convinced within the first few days of playing I won't be later on in the game either.

  • UOvetUOvet Member Posts: 514

I just skimmed through posts but it seems quite a few people here are misinformed. I guess you can't get a true taste of the game if they limit the leveling and no PvP. I see people bitching about leveling. You guys realized there is a patch in Korea that adds to the gains, right? I know a while ago someone did a whole physics equation or some shit on it on here before but maybe just relax? I would have to assume there is more to this "transition" then just text, no? After all, correct me if I'm wrong but WAR is F2P (with cash shop) in other countries outside of NA/EU. It's not like you can't alter an MMO for another country.

Not even close. It has more to do with western games, at least from 1-20. I can't comment further until I've played the higher levels.

Aion will replace both Lineage 2 and LOTRO for me as it offers the best of both those worlds (in my opinion).

I think it's funny how people keep saying it's the same old thing. Grind this, grind that. What exactly did you expect? Go hug 50 bunnies?  It's how you do it that makes it fun. I like the combat system and skills. I like how the game plays. I like how you can fly.  Oh wait, that's right. There is something that alot of MMOs dont have. Flight Combat. Played in the first beta, will be playing in the second beta, and will be playing on the release date.

I can't really think of a single MMO that isn't a grind in some way and to be honest I am not even sure how you could make it any different.

*Very standard MMO....... kills 10 of X, collect 4 of Y ** DUH - what else would you do in a n MMO? Plus crafting. if you want to hug bunnies go play WOW.

*No goal or reason to be there......, you feel like you're dropped into a world where you don't belong ** Kill monsters, kill other players, get better gear, lvl up. If you want a really indepth stroy line go buy a single player RPG that was made for for that or buy Guild Wars. Not that many MMOs have a really indepth story line. If they did this it would not be coming out for another year or three. not to mention cost even more.

    * text is mediocre at best.........., it's definitely translated by people not used to MMO, the language and terminology used isn't impressive ** Sorry if their little words insult your mighty brain. I heard from a friend of a freind of a friend that they actually make games in other countries for the people in their country and not specifically for those who speak English.

*Combat is very boring........... for the first 10 levels, you get very few abilities ** 1 to 3 skills every odd lvl depending on your class. Why over complicate things rigth off the start?  Espically when it's the first 10 lvls where you are learning how to play the game. lvl 10 is also where you choose your path. Why give you 20 skills to use between 1 and 10 that you would not be using past that lvl.

*Game is a grind............, maybe I've played too many MMO, but <target mob> <kill mob> <target mob> <kill mob>..is what you'll be doing for about 4 hours non-stop to get to level 10 ** Did you actually do the quests or just run around killing random things till you lvl? See above rant about grinding in games. If you dont like it dont play any mmo.

*NPC's did not speak to me (sound)................, maybe they will fix this, I don't know ** you only really see every NPC talking in a single player RPG. Or are you mad that they dont say "Hello"  everytime you click on them. Again doing this would delay the game and cost more.

*Players are mostly just soloing,........... no real incentive to group, maybe this will change in later levels, I don't know ** Have you watched any of the ingame movies? Why group at such low lvls and share the xp and take up more time to lvl?

*Places you start in are way too small,......... too many players all dumped into starting places, you feel like a person trapped in a box ** didnt seem so small, heck it meant less travel times. Wonder why they had a flight path in the starting area. dont think WOW had that in their starting area. Good respawn timers to. How big did you want an area to be when you would only be there for 4 hours and never again?

*No real story..........., almost no lore, I felt lost? and it felt a bit pointless to be there ** I didnt get past lvl 13 and there was just a basic story line if you took the time to read everything. I am only assuming that it will continue as you lvl but if I am having fun playing then could care less about a story line most the time.

*There's something wrong with the game's horizontal vision,..... imagine looking through a camera and missing a good part of the side view of the world, that's what it's like when playing Aion, they restrict vision to the left and right ** I'm not really sure I understand what you are saying here. I pull it out to the third person and can pretty much see everything that I wanted to see and I liked what I saw.

Oh well. Some people will like it and some poeple wont. If nothing else I will enjoy playing it until the end game most likely. Past that who knows.

I mean if I want to play a grinder I'll play Perfect World...at least that is well done.

    Epic fail NCsoft Epic Fail,

after 4 hours in warcraft. i found myself killing various mobs , finding various different herbs or items .  the graphics looked very poor even 4 years ago but when i got to level 20 in the game i saw its potential . so essentially what this guy is saying he did nt give it a chance and came on here and had a hissy fit because it was nt his current mmo of chioce (also  forgetting every mmo in its early levels is a grinder ) . nuff said

WoW is pathetic, I don't think Aion has nothing new but WoW is simply outdated.
