Same old Korean Grind Model Check
Same Effeminate looking male toons check
Same stab your eyes out boring no reason to even be there other than kill gameplay. check.
I mean if I want to play a grinder I'll play Perfect World...at least that is well done.
Epic fail NCsoft Epic Fail,
after 4 hours in warcraft. i found myself killing various mobs , finding various different herbs or items . the graphics looked very poor even 4 years ago but when i got to level 20 in the game i saw its potential . so essentially what this guy is saying he did nt give it a chance and came on here and had a hissy fit because it was nt his current mmo of chioce (also forgetting every mmo in its early levels is a grinder ) . nuff said
In early WoW, you didnt need to play four fucking hours to get to level 10. Early advancement should be rapid and easy to promote player growth and to get the player situated. In WoW, the early levels were quick, in Aion; you face mid game grinds at level fucking four. Early mobs taking many, many hits to down; EXP LOSS FOR DEATH AT LEVEL SIX, uninteresting introduction into the world... There's a stark difference between WoW early game and Aion early game, even back in the day: when the game wasn't competely awful.
The job of a game of ANY type is to keep the player interested throughout the time it's played. If a game has a lousy beginning and someone quits : it's not the player's fault, it's the game's.

Umm, actually when WoW first released it did take longer than 4 hours to reach level 10. No one could stay connected to their crap servers long enough to kill anything. If AION has shown us anything "revolutionary" in this respect, it is a solid, stable client and servers that can handle the load going in.

How did it take you four hours to get to level ten? It should have taken about two hours. If it was taking many many hits for you to down early mobs you were doing something wrong... you're aware that most weapons actually hit multiple times per swing. Even with my priest class It was spell, spell, 1 swing of my weapon = dead, and the reason I did it that way was I prefer to have them die at my feet. With mage they always die so far away then you have to slog over to loot. Warrior class killed nicely, but I never tried the scout so not sure about them. Also In Wow in early levels mobs took multiple hits to kill as well, It was about the same, Mages kill quickly and the others slower to start.
The trolls can't decide themselves, either they say it's a WoW Clone or they say it's a generic asian grindfest, so can I start calling wow an asian grinder now?
To the whiner two or three posts above...How cares how long it takes? This just go to show the ammount of "must get to max level asap" type of people... It's not about getting to the end it's about enjoying the ride.
If you can't comprehend that, then I rather you not play because I don't want whinners flooding Aion thank you very much.

The first negative above kills me the most, because I always hear gripes about this, and I have done the same in the past.. But after thinking about it, if it were a skill based game you would likely be grinding on a lot more than 10 of X to get your weapons skill up, so why not get a quest reward out of killing 10 of creature X, after all in a skill based game you aren't getting anything but weapon/stat increases?
I can kind of understand the second point because I was lost at first, but once you get to level 10 and start the quests to ascend to Daeva, you have a good understanding of why you were just 'dropped' into a world where you didn't belong.
I had fun and am looking forward to getting back on AION. I don't need to compare it to anything else or critic every aspect of the game...it's very simple....I had FUN.
You use such blasphemous words . . . such actions are punishable by flaming at the stake.
What... you had FUN playing a GAME? HERETIC!
If people think like that and stop running from the fun factor to do stupid comparisons... what will happen to the trolls? No one calling other games clones or grinders, a simple world of people playing what they enjoy and ignoring what they don't, this must be a nightmare, no more trolling dramas to watch while eating popcorn.

Game companies don't make games for people to play and have fun now days, they make games for people to bitch about
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
It's not the game that's the disappointment, it's the stagnant genre. Everything you described is all the things you find in almost every mmo. This genre really needs to grow up. It's in serious need of an overhaul in concept and overall game design.
I'm with you on this one. I don't want to play a WoW clone ever again. I'm looking for something radically different. Something that utilizes the players on the server in a different way. Something more than just leveling up. Something that makes me feel like I make a difference in the world socially.
With people willing to pay a monthly subscription, there needs to be more than just leveling up by killing mobs and returning items to the NPC. Been there, done that, way burned out.
Obviously it's come to the point where everyone expects to receive a Handjob upon entering the playing realm of a new game. Aion never said it was innovative, it takes the features of the current genre and improves on them. WoW wasn't intuitive either, and it's done quite well.
Also, judging and MMO on the first 10 levels? Smart. I'm sure you enjoyed Heroic Striking your way through level 10 and Sinister Striking your way through level 10 as well, much more action packed.
And to top it off, I hit lvl 20 in China live without grinding once, so I don't know where you are pulling your info from.
I agree, i also played on china servers and hit level 25 without grinding at all. and this was with a million bots in some areas where i couldnt even do the quest. there is TONS of quest to do if thats the way you like to level.
yeah there isnt a ton of skills at first but later on there is plenty, your skills bars start to fill up quick in the later levels.
as far as the quest being go kill X amount of mobs or go pick up X amount of bags off the ground, what do you expect from a MMO these days? you can thank warcraft for the mindless quest that make people run around and feel like a UPS delivery guy. seems all the new games have adopted that style.
*Very standard MMO....... kills 10 of X, collect 4 of Y
How is this a negative if it's the STANDARD? Not every quest is kill 10 of x, collect 4 of Y, and they did do a good job of mixing stuff up with Storyline missions that progress along side quests.
*No goal or reason to be there......, you feel like you're dropped into a world where you don't belong
Read the storyline in the first 10 levels and it actually paints a pretty clear picture of what you're doing there.
* text is mediocre at best.........., it's definitely translated by people not used to MMO, the language and terminology used isn't impressive
Well you can't expect much from any translated MMO, let alone movie or anime or anything really. But I could give you a point here.
*Combat is very boring........... for the first 10 levels, you get very few abilities
Were you training? Because my bar was full by level 10. I had plenty to do in a fight as a tank. Besides, that was before you even decided to focus on a class..
*Game is a grind............, maybe I've played too many MMO, but <target mob> <kill mob> <target mob> <kill mob>..is what you'll be doing for about 4 hours non-stop to get to level 10
Quests kept flowing and you only had to grind if you had chosen too, or were not visiting town between story arcs to get the new quests offered. I did not grind a single time up to 10, and I also had quests left over for the zone. Maybe you should be more effective in your leveling?
*NPC's did not speak to me (sound)................, maybe they will fix this, I don't know
True, maybe they didn't implement the sound into this yet. But not many MMO's have fully voiced NPCs, and even EQ2 seemed to stop doing it after a few content patches.
*Players are mostly just soloing,........... no real incentive to group, maybe this will change in later levels, I don't know
It's the newbie zone, and you complained about grinding yet you want to GROUP? (Which implies hard quests and a grindy game in the first place). Contradicition.
*Places you start in are way too small,......... too many players all dumped into starting places, you feel like a person trapped in a box
The newbie zones are instanced to help out with this problem, and it's also to aide in giving the new player some direction. Something a lot of people complain about when they don't have it yet now your listing it as a fault. I found the zone big enough to get lost in a couple times when I didn't spam my map.
*No real story..........., almost no lore, I felt lost? and it felt a bit pointless to be there
Once more comes down to YOU not reading or doing the STORYLINE missions.
*There's something wrong with the game's horizontal vision,..... imagine looking through a camera and missing a good part of the side view of the world, that's what it's like when playing Aion, they restrict vision to the left and right
It's not the game that's the disappointment, it's the stagnant genre. Everything you described is all the things you find in almost every mmo. This genre really needs to grow up. Allow me to correct.
It's not the game that's the dissapointment, it's the majority of gamers who play the genre. Everything you described is all the things you find in almost every MMO. The players really need to grow up. The players with zero attention span and lack of ability to be in the moment are suffering from self dillusion.
As for your other remarks, then walk the talk. Go play Darkfall Online. It is radically different from WoW and most other MMO's. It is skill based, open PvP with full loot drops, and allows players to build cities, ships and participate in territorial and sea battles.
theres no point being in there? maybe read the story first its kinda says you need to destroy your enemy faction ( players ) meaning end game pvp what the f~~~ you are whining about that fact then? and also every mmo is grind until further notice
I dont know what the big surprise is here. All you hate every mmorpg you try.
All of your expectations of everygame being the "best game ever!" is quickly dashed by the reality that the game is new, the game isnt all that diffrent from the rest (a mmorpg is a mmorpg afterall), and then you get all mad and hate the game forever like it was a girlfriend that broke your heart.
These games are not perfict, the sooner you understand that the sooner you can start enjoying them.
Is the korean anime type grind oriented game my first preference...no
Will i try the game eventually, and try to enjoy it regardless.....yes
But the whole "this game isnt exactly how i want a mmorpg done so it sucks and you all are idiots for liking it" argument got old many years ago.
if its fun play it, who said that a mmorpg is a failure if it get under a certain amount of subs, or takes less than 5 years to bore you. Again unrealistic expectaions.
enjoy it for what it is, if you dont want to risk $50 on getting bored in a month WAIT untill a trial or more reviews.

Well, there's always someone negative on every forum, it's ok. We just haee to ignore them.
I admit I only got to level 10. I wanted real bad to get my wings and try the flying...so I endured nearly 4 hours of some of the most boring and uninnovative PVE gameplay that I have ever witnessed. Seriously! The idea that going around killing lots of cartoonish mobs, using only 1 or 2 skills for 4 hours is appealing to me as doing root canal.
Why didn't they include new skills at earlier levels?
Then, finally, after all the hard work, I got to the Eylios main city (which is really cool btw), and got 5 or 6 new skills. Then I was finally ready to fly!!!
Except...that you don't really fly in Aion. You float on the air flapping your wings. There is none of the cool flying dynamics one would expect (if flying). You can't glide while flying, or dive, or catch an ascendant wind. If you stop pressing the forward key, you just stay still in the air. Another irritating thing was all those invisible walls in the air. What's the point of flying if you can't have freedom? There's already a time restriction, why make invisible walls too?
I was disappointed with the game. Maybe it gets better after a certain level. But still, I feel disappointed that NC Soft couldn't do a more innovative game-play.
Hmm, wrong about the flying, btw. You press the space bar to glide when flying (your timer evens slows down), you can dive by pressing page down or angling at the ground, and you can catch updrafts when gliding (even in places where flying isn't allowed.)

Aion is a solid title for 2009. This is what bothers me the most from people that did not even test the damn game while in beta. Take the time to actually look around and learn the game and find bugs. Seriously there are skill trainers in the very first town that get you all the way to level 9. Every class has a NPC trainer there. I've played C(Chinese)Aion for a while now and this game, while not revolutionary is pretty fun. There is a depth to it that I have not seen in a while honestly, and I've played practically everything on the market. Also for the love of god press Esc and look at the keybind options to even learn to properly fly. You can even mouseover the actual icon that turns on flying to see how to fly. Press R to rise...or F to fall and Space to dive....it's really that simple all the other movement is controlled by the mouse. I don't post often but I could not let this dribble pass. And the post about me is right about, how wrong you are about flying. If your too slow to learn how to actually play a game please don't post lies about it. Negative feedback is fine but don't put out mis-information.

So wait, we go from "The game starts at level 25/50!" to "Slow down and enjoy the game"? You fans need to make up your fucking minds. Maybe I'd be more inclined to "enjoy the ride" if the "ride" wasn't just a exceedingly long LINE in order to get the RIDE.
As for the guy who thought I was doing something wrong. I played a scout, what else is there to combat other than using the meager pool of skills I had access to at the level. I made sure to keep my gear up to date, yet I still found enemy encounters tedious and uninteresting.
Oh, one last thing, the whole server issues WoW had at launch? Irrelevant. Way to miss the point entirely.

That's the Chinese server. First of all, he's exagerating. They are alittle more leniant on those servers, but they wont tolerate that shyt on NA servers trust me.

*There's something wrong with the game's horizontal vision,..... imagine looking through a camera and missing a good part of the side view of the world, that's what it's like when playing Aion, they restrict vision to the left and right
I have no idea what you mean..

I wonder howmany of you experts here even have a clue what your talking about...
But oh wait let me guess you watched VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE.
I like aion but waterlilly has several points that are true and others that aren't. Go figure...
Well, there's always someone negative on every forum, it's ok. We just haee to ignore them.
Hmm, wrong about the flying, btw. You press the space bar to glide when flying (your timer evens slows down), you can dive by pressing page down or angling at the ground, and you can catch updrafts when gliding (even in places where flying isn't allowed.)
I think NCsoft don't care about your opinion.
They already have ~4m subscribers
How did they get up to 4 million subs?
How did they get up to 4 million subs?
chinese and korea have about 4mil subs altogether, i think...

And this right there will keep me from trying this game, ever.

Playing: Final Fantasy Online: ARR, Destiny
Most memorable games for me: UO, GW1, LoTRO
Guess you got rocked by mobs constantly and decided to alt+f4 in your frustration. Seems like the filter is working perfectly.
And this right there will keep me from trying this game, ever.
That's the Chinese server. First of all, he's exagerating. They are alittle more leniant on those servers, but they wont tolerate that shyt on NA servers trust me.
