Just a note on Shadowrun. Some indie devs in Austin, TX were working on Shadowrun Online, but back in 2007 were forced to shutdown the production, and hand over their website to Microsoft who owns the Shadowrun license (remember that sorry excuse for a Shadowrun game they put out a while back.). So unless Microsoft decides to dabble in MMORPG's, and just happens to not choose an IP like Halo then there may be a tiny almost non existant chance that we will see a Shadowrun MMORPG. They would probably just try to clone WoW anyway... Those same indie devs though are working on a cyberpunk MMO based more on Gibson's books, but there site has hardly any updates, and they don't have a publisher or anything. Maybe they can pull it off. Their influences are Shadowrun, Gibson, Stephenson, Deus Ex, etc.
Do they still have the license? Because I heard that they were planning a MMO but when the dudes that actually owns the game now saw their FPS they canned it.
Hopefully they sell the license to someone else but it is just a rumor. Love SR myself, but hated the crappy MS game. Sad becuase they made another FASA game rather good: Crimson skies. Crimson skies would actually also make a great MMO.
But I would love to see an online based game of Neverwinter nights.. By Bioware and not Cryptic.
Jordan Weisman, one the original creators of Shadowrun and Battletech with FASA, moved to Microsoft when FASA sold those IPs to them and now (about 2 years ago, right after the crappy Shadowrun FPS game hit) he left to found a company called Smith & Tinker. They know have leased back the electronic gaming rights for most of the FASA catalogue that was sold to Microsoft (including Shadowrun and Battletech) and hold the rights to make computer/console games.
Currently S&T is working with a Canadian company called Piranha Games in making a Mechwarrior game. It's not picking up where 4 left off, but instead starting back in like the 3rd or 4th Succession Wars. Via their latest interview Jordan and the head of Piranha Games mentioned that they have tossed back and forth ideas for Shadowrun, but they weren't ready to share them.
So, not saying a SR MMO is on the way, but, some kind of SR game is brewing and will hopefully be Piranha's next project after "Mechwarrior" (running title) launches, which I can't wait for that! Below is a link to a thread I started a week ago about the Mechwarrior game. It has links to interviews and a youtube official game teaser video.
I would love to see an Firefly MMO with a skill system like SWG (I know that firefly has an mmo coming out, but it's gonna suck because meta-engine sucks) If not Firefly then a Assassin MMO based upon the Wanted Movie would be cool.
Blizzard uses WOW to harvest hours played into bottles so that the dev team can remain immortal
A Shadowrun MMORPG. An MMORPG based on the Underworld universe would be cool to me, as well.
You should keep an eye on World of Darkness from CCP. Shadowrun MMO announcement would make me lose it. I'd run around my office tackling people in joy before ripping off my shirt and leaping through a window to start running home and hitting F5 on the games website until it released.
Go and take a look around www.smithandtinker.com
That website belongs to a company founded by one Jordann Weismann...creator of Battletech, Mechwarrior, Shadowrun/Earthdawn and Crimson Skies.
Now....get to hammering that f5 key as a couple of months ago, there was talk of having reaquired the licences of all of those titles in relation to a possible MMO in the works.
A Naruto MMORPG with the different villages as factions, action gameplay etc. would be awesome. But there'd be too much idiots (I don't want to use the word "kiddies") around. The Elder Scrolls as MMORPG would also be great.

Link to article or interview mentioning SR MMO being possible please. I have been checking their (S&T) site very regularly since it went up and haven't heard anything mentioning an SR MMO being possible. The only announcements made that I have seen are in the link in my post right above yours leading to the thread I made. In that interview is the first time I've heard Weisman mention SR in any public venue since S&T began.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."
Star Trek would be my first but then World of Darkness new or old would be freaking AWSOME
I'm really happy to see an intrest from others in the World of Darkness. If it is ever released I hope it has at least 300K players and last for more than a couple of years.
i am almost certain that CCP games (eve online) aquired White Wolf and was in the process of making a world of darkness game (not 100% sure its an mmo).

You guys keep talking Firefly..eh, but while we are on a Joss product, would love to see an Buffy/Angel world MMORPG. That could be a serious blast to play.

major emphasis on the "COULD"
The Firefly MMO has actually been put on hold while the company holding IP rights develops the Bufffy MMO.
Something that stays true to the Shadowrun universe would make my pants comfortably warm and strangely tight. Of course, that being said, I'm still recovering from the WH40K MMO announcement from THQ.
I suppose I should use the obvious preface that IF DONE RIGHT... The Wheel of Time has the perfect world already set up, as well as races, classes, and a global story to take part in.
For Sci-Fi, The Night's Dawn Trilogy by Hamilton... damn that could be amazing, absolutely amazing. Anyone else here familiar with it?
I would nerdgasm about the mechanics of a game rather than the IP / title. Some of the best IPs have been used to make really crappy wow clones. To me, it's all about the themepark / sandbox hybrid, although admittedly that type of game would be far more exciting with a good IP behind it.
Although a Battlefield MMOFPS would be pretty freaking awesome too. Of course if Tabula Rasa was revived, I'd be cleaning the walls. I also wouldn't mind seeing the following:
Warhammer 40k
Dune!
The Elder Scrolls
The Forgotten Realms
The Witcher Universe
And, the one that would have me just going for days...
The Mass Effect Universe!!! Being it was in the same style as the games, with the third-person shooter like gameplay.

I would like to see a Dark Tower MMO. Have no idea how you could do it maybe go back in the timeline. Classes would be pretty hard to come up with. You could'nt have everybody be gunslingers. But somebody with a better imagination than me might be able to do it.
Otherland universe is another one. A independent company is already making that one, but it will be awhile before its out.
Imagine a FPS/RTS/MMORPG. Three Factions Terrans Zerg and Protoss.
Experinced guild leaders and raid organizers taking the lead as RTS managers building bases staking claims to resources. mind you it's slow (anyone ever build a base in 10six?). But rewarding actual players using the facilities you build for them. Jump from planet to planet building and managing.
Raid Leaders taking the roll of plantside type commanders... taking control of air assets ground troops tanks and transports whome of which are all controlled by regular players. Giving orders though a vent like system. with organized clans. Special coloring and logos the whole bit.
Like to FPS it up.. Get you chain gun and Marine Armor on ... Like flying sims get your a transport or plane and fight or navagate around protoss and zerg air units. Like to race or tank battle.. well it has that too. (racing your buggy from a charging ultralisk counts as racing right?).
An experince system much like world of warcraft/plantside Have talents perks and unlockable weapons with appropriate experience. Can be good as somethings but not good at all. You can reset and change your abilities with a small cost or penalty. Zerg You Evolve can take more shapes and different rolls. With Protoss it's a little of both worlds.
You have your side... any strategy goes.. you have your assets... your player base. one side per server and realtively even number of players on each side.
YOU CAN WIN your side can have ultimate victory you can lose your empire it can crumble but your experince for the eventual world reset remains as well as any friends/enemies you made.
OMG
/NERDGASM'S OVER THE TWO POSTERS ABOVE AND BELOW HIM
By the way, you should check out a little game called Warhammer 40k. Starcraft is junk. Pure garbage.
I still would like to have UO 2. At the time they cancelled it i could not believe it. I still want a game like this (skill based no levels, skilll tree with hundreds of skills ...)
Couldn't agree more. UO is still the best MMO I've ever played. It does, however, suffer very bad from issues due to it's age. It's time for a reboot.
Picture UO, Pre-tram, with all the lessons learned since then, corrected, brought into a modern client, 3D or graphics.. Keep the geography exactly as is.. Keep custom housing, the crafting, and the highly customizable everything, from dyes to skills.. Now add city wars (Each city is it's own faction, instead of the current "Factions" system) and siege. In a true 3D client? Yes please!
All of that right there.
Some of my fondest MMO memories were on the Catskills shard. That game promoted real player communities, something that has been hard to find since.
A Witcher MMO would be cool. The new Star Wars MMO sounds close to one of my dream MMOs already. Elite as an MMO and of course - Warhammer 40K as an MMO, which is being made. Anything that lets me join up with my friends and explore a universe that's rich and diverse with a lot of different factions and quests. Something with space flight, atmospheric re-entry and space combat, all seamless, so you could land on a planet and explore after flying to the system. All in glorious 3d.

Catskills, eh? Cool. That's my home shard, and I still play there.
Who was your character? What guild? How long since you've been on?
