This game still terrible?

raystantzraystantz Final Fantasy XI CorrespondentMember UncommonPosts: 1,237

I tried it about a month or so ago, and it was pretty much an empty shell of a world with a few gankers running about with blood walled/afk macroed skills with not much else for you to do.

I'm assuming its still the same and none of these issues have been fixed yet.

Having suffered heavy burnout from EvE I decided to give Darfall a try.

I have only been on under 2 weeks but I love it so far.

Join a clan and you will see all kinds of people, if you try and go solo you will be alone. We have plenty of PvP (evenwhem we don't want or expect it) and PVE.

I chose not to Bloodwall and I have been hearing that it may soon be over for good. Crafting  and gathering does alot for your stats and is enjoyable.

I suggest joining a clan and your "empty" outlook will change.

Yeah, you will have a great time until someone that you can't see (because he is under the earth) hits you for 2 billion damage by using an exploit and various 3rd party programs that the main site still insist don't exsist (even if they do nobody really uses them)! Enjoy and good luck, you will need it. Ahh what may have been.

Before you PVP seriously, get these skills up:

Lesser Magic to 50 or 75, level 75 is for launch which launches you up in the air to get onto places and 50 is to unlock greater magic

Greater Magic to 50 so you can unlock elemental spells

Archery to 75 to get sharpshooter which increases archery damage

A melee weapon to 75 to get melee mastery

and how much time will I have to spend at my pc grinding in order to do such? I'm guessing quite a long time.

It is terrible, it was fun first 2 weeks I played. Til I realized I need to play atleast 6 months as a casual 4-5 hours a day to even get to pvp at a good rate. Magic is everything in this game. Its not even fun.

There was a drop in population while waiting on the NA market launch on the EU server.  Now both servers are seeing population increases (from what I read in various guild forums, not here).

This guy is terrible, I saw him in my Alfar race chat complaining nonstop about the game and not doing anything about it. Which means he is just standing around thinking about how much magic he would need. And no you don't need 6 months, all you need is 1-2 lvl 50 nukes and you'll be fine, it's easy.

You don't need to convince us, you need to convince Aventurine.

Obviously Aventurine disagrees with your assessment.

If they didn't then why are they continually re-adjusting it just about every single large patch?  Are you saying that they won't be re-adjusting it yet again when they finally get around to the next patch... "expansion"?

If something was just fine, or easy... it wouldn't be re-adjusted every time.  So, you might want to let Aventurine know that you think it's fine and easy.  For some reason, it seems that Aventurine disagrees with you.

I think you're a lot closer to the truth than many fans would like to admit.

No sane MMO developer voluntarily lets large portions of their development staff go on "vacation" less than a week after they've just opened a new server in a new region.

Tasos and gang have been more silent than usual in the last 2 months.  The fixes/updates/patches/"expansions" have slowed down to a crawl.  The most recent "fixes" have been band-aid nerfs at best.

Everything points to a very much reduced development staff.

Point taken.  And I feel that xzyax is right on the money in that post.  AV is probably reducing staff.  Delaying any official announcement by saying people are taking vacations is status-quo in many industries.

Even the most ardent of supporters must admit that sales for the NA server must have been below expectations. In fact I remember a certain poster here predicting the NA server would be sold out in 4 hours. Well... as the BUY NOW button is evidence to... it's not there yet even after a month+ of sales.

Unfortunately for Aventurine, I think the NA was it's last hurrah.  The month-long plus hiatus of the bulk of it's developers is just further proof that the future is indeed looking grim for the developers of Aventurine.

The silver-lining behind all this is that Aventurine going belly-up is probably the best thing that could happen to DarkFall.  DarkFall might stand a chance of getting picked up by a competent developer, and realize at least a portion of it's potential.

What an utterly horrible thought.   Just the thought of being subjected to the large corporate souless gaming comapnies make me shiver, but obviously there is a huge market for cookie cutter watered down no death consequnce games.    Any way, as Mark Twain said "Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated" is appropriate to quote here.   While those of us on the NA server are having the most fun the majority of us have had in ten years, you guys are playing DFO Forum, which is a game in itself.

On a related note, I'd genuinely be interested to know from  those of you who love to comment on DFO frequently while not appearing to like it or play it, what game(s) you do like, if any.

    Have a nice day. -CC

To be fair, certain other games make you collect 15 bear asses from bears with a drop rate of 10% to give to some NPC who sends you to the next NPC who wants you to collect 15 tiger asses with a drop rate of 5%, who then sends you to another NPC... all the way to level 80. In Darkfall you can level your skills by PVE, by PKing players, or by hiding in towns to macro if you are too afraid to do the first 2.

To be even more fair those certain other games have this mechanism incorporated inside their game machine intentionally as part of their level progress whilst Darkfall allowed this to happen just because they didn't exactly think everything through (a.k.a bad game design) .....................

Unless ofc you want to change what you said and claim that the game was built around  macroing

Honestly, I wouldn't touch it until there is some type of trial.  This game has way too much controversy attached to it at this time.  The concepts are good for us who prefer sandbox, but for a game with these concepts you really need a large, profitable company to back it due to the time it a solid game.  These games attract more exploits than your typical themepark style and therefore requires a greater deal of money, time, and skills to make it playable.  I just don't think DF has that backing.  But I applaud them for getting the ball rolling again!

Please point to where in my post that I even implied anything remotely resembling what you put in your post?

Obviously I did not, so you are making up this "thought" on your own.  Why is that?

Why do you have such negative thoughts for DarkFall's future?

If you want to project negative thoughts for DarkFall's future in a post that is trying to find something positive about Aventurine's impending collapse, then you should create your own post.

    Thanks.

"Making things up"?   That's a pretty serious allegation.    Your own words I quoted say it all.   If you like to elaborate, please do.   It would be fun to see your interpretation of....

"Aventurine going belly-up is probably the best thing that could happen to DarkFall. DarkFall might stand a chance of getting picked up by a competent developer, and realize at least a portion of it's potential."

What games do you actually like?  Perhaps that will give us insight on what you mean by a "competent developer".   All the so called developers considered competent, like Blizzard, SoE and the like, merely put out easy to consume products.   Nothing wrong with that, as many people love gentle games with no risk.

Actually I'll be happy to asnwer. I went back to UO, more to do and death matters on siege. Graphics in UO aren't as good as DFO but it takes player skill, char skill and it's fun. Hopefuly we will see a 3D sandbox come out and thats what I was hoping for with DFO it just wasn't one so the wait continues. Still hanging around hoping AV works it out and eventually gets it right though.

Eh, it's a PvP game.  It has low design/maintenance costs, so it doesn't need half a million subs to be successful.  Nothing is that broken in it.  It isn't going anywhere.

    Unlike TCoS...

I agree... AV shot themselves in the foot by trying to cash grab the NA players twice. Had they allowed NA players to create new characters Day one on the Na server, I know a few hundred if not a few thousand would have reactivated to try out the new expansion.

instead, many folks like myself are moving on to new games... and AV loses out.

AV cant afford to make enemies at this point, yet they seem hell bent on blowing their own foot off.

I used to be a fan of this title up until the point someone broke NDA a while a go with the infamous "Benny Hill music" youtube video.  Saddly it was that video that turned me from skeptical fan to cynical hater.  I have a right to be bitter as I saddly, and ignorantly believed in Tasos' word, and ended up sadly disappointed.

I predict DF will suffer the curse of Bill Roper, and all the Darkfall fans will scream out with tears, "I've just been FlagShipped by Aventurine!!!"

    China... Come on.

You seem to be a pretty intelligent person, and I think you know darn well the point he made by highlighting those two specific statements in red. It's pretty obvious. I think you're being deliberately obtuse here.

    But just in case...

His point, as I read it, is that if AV goes under, that hopefully a "competent developer" - as in, one that would do DF justice by getting it closer to what it was hyped to be - would pick it up, correct the glaring issues and turn it into the game everyone's waited for all these years, and make it work.

He's not referring to a developer who would pick it up and try to turn it into a themepark game with PvP by consent only, etc.

Now, xyzax can correct me if I'm wrong here, but I'm pretty certain that's what he meant.
