10x more content. (So...EQ2 has more than 20 x Lotro content besides AION 1.5 has a lot of content...)

    Are you sure?

Yup, I am sure.  You can take any two screenshots and compare them against eachother.  However, that does not really compare the art in the 2 games.  I think these Screenshots I took myself speak for themselves.  These were not even DX10, and done on my old computer without having the graphics maxed.

Two totally different art styles for two totally different types of fantasy MMOs.  LotrO does have some of the best landscaping for it's artstyle (EQ2, Vanguard, etc).  The art is grounded in reality.  Yes, it's a fantasy game, but it's much closer to a fantasy that could have been real.

The graphics of Aion are that of a fantasy fantasy game.  Big crazy looking weapons, super shiny armor, everyone is above average looks wise, or looks just silly.

Why can't you like both?  Aion fanbois will claim (wrongly) that their game has better graphics as a fact. LotrO fanbois will claim (wrongly) that their game has better graphics as a fact.  The art style is so different that saying your game is better and everyone should accept that as fact makes you look dumb.

Saying, In MY OPINION, this game is better, and here's why, makes you look like you know what the hell you are talking about.

    Ghettobooste.

Art is the issue with Lotro.

As I said Lotro has nice woods/green locations and lakes , nothing more.

Most of your screenshots (most of Lotro screenshots everywhere) only show the woods, no playable character, no indoor location.

Creatures and playable models in Lotro are horrid and bland, not just because of the dated poly count/animation , but because of the poor art.

Compare the art in lotro used on characters and creature to the art related to Tolkien´s works (from early illustrations to recent animations and movies) and you will realize that art in Lotro is expressive in some natural landscapes but really poor in all the rest.

AION art is a mix between post modern, surealism and "anime" art . Maybe you don't appreciate the style but it is cohesive and follow a path to create a homogeneus and expressive overall experience. Lotro´s art is very, very, very inconsistent.

Both games look good but I would prefer more consistence in Lotro´s visuals.

"Aion just IS some years behind."

A its a VERY old graphics engine.. so DUH its behind almost any NEW mmo

OP go play Age of conan (AOC) then you might stop QQ.

In aoc the dx10 probably have the best graphic, but it require a $200+ video card for average quality.

    Zeblade.

Please, search for AOC´s engine, WoW´s engine, Lotro´s engine, EQ2´s engine, War´s engine and Vanguard engine.

Crytec engine is newer than all those .

Only MMOs with real newer engines are the ones using Unreal 3. (Blade&Soul, Mortal etc)

While Aion's terrain graphics aren't technically up to the standards of LoTRO, they have a very nice stylized look to them.  The character models in Aion blow away the character models in LoTRO.
Aion is a lot more of a high fantasy game.  Aion has no fear of straying from the norm and doing odd things (flying manta rays anyone?).  LoTRO must adhere to Tolkiens written universe.  LoTRO is definitely more of a 'grounded' fantasy game.
I feel that LoTRO is more about the world you are in, Aion is more about the character you are playing.
I like both, they each have their strengths and weaknesses.  I am currently playing Aion because I love awesome looking weapons and armor, which Aion has in spades.

I wanted to post as well, but this fellow here pretty much covered what I wanted to say.

Thread is pointless since the OP didn't use the High resolution texture pack. Aion's textures are over stretched, it requires small manual tweaks to improve them.

These are images from my old work

You cant compare Aion to Lotro, gameplay an graphics-wise, simply does not compute.

Link above contains my first 2 works...

    Enjoy

Improve Aion's Graphics with a simple text file that you can create by yourself:

-Increase in-game Field of View to 175% or more

-Increase view distance for players to 100 meters with camera at max distance

    -Lots of other settings

Learn how by reading this guide at Aionsource

Does it relly matter which game has the best graphics?  If saddoes like the OP want to take screenies and compare blades of grass then let him/her, but most normal people with a semblance of a life at least would normally take each game at their own merits and maybe even enjoy both of them

  • CaleveiraCaleveira Member Posts: 556

Yes, i think we all agree Mexico is a beautiful country and no more images should be necesary to prove it. As for the discussion, this thnread was obviously initiated just as flamebait. Some of the previous posters are right, it's a thing about "taste" there really is no competition.

    Just to make things clear...
I speak for myself and no one else, unless i state otherwise mine is just an opinion. A fact is something that can be independently verified, you may challenge such but with proof. You have every right to disagree with me through sound argument, i believe in constructive debate, but baseless aggression will warrant an unkind response.

Aion looks great... and more importantly.. Aion is more visusally interesting thanks to it's colors and design. Lotro is also great but the areas are pretty boring since I can just go to a park and see the same thing. One of them is going for realism(lotro) the other is going for high fantasy(Aion) I don't think one is better, they are both different and each have their ups and downs.

OP is retarded of has a comp that is worth less that what I wipe my ass with. I've played LotRO in the past and yes, dx10 graphics are awesome. But playing Aion maxed is just as good.

    YOUR TOLLING IS OBVIOUS OP.

This is my opinion as well. I do think LOTRO's landscapes look very nice, and they can be both interesting and relaxing to explore, but Aion's visuals do more for me personally. I suspect it has more to do with what I want out of a game right now than anything.

LOTRO's graphics look much better, I agree with that topic.

  • superpatasuperpata Member UncommonPosts: 190

Both games look decent, there are zones of aion where they pushed the detail further and look amazing, likewise there are bland zones in lord of the rings. Now forgetting about the zone and looking at chars, Aion beats lotr and so does with atmospheric details (more choices, fog rain, thunders, enviromental heat waves and dust) and spell effects/particles. Another zone where aion beats lotro are the waterfalls and water overall, while lotr water looks great, aion can look better and if you notice it actually has volume, not just shading to make the illusion of having waves.

As for dx10 and dx9, it is overrated, my crysis at dx9 makes lotro and aion together look outdated.

There have never been a 100 ppl fight on any lotro server in the world ever.

I personally think that graphics have more to do with design and direction then anything else, and IMO Aion destroys LotR in this sense.

Sure, LotR has stunning environments, but I have always found the character models and gear design when I played it fugly and downright unispiring. Aion's environments are not as good technically, but they are beautifully imaginative and draw me in like LotR never did. Also, Aion's character/ gear designs are stunning.

As people above me have also posted, please also bear in mind what Aion will be expected to in PvP etc. It's not really comparative to judge their two environments against each other when they are built for different jobs.

  • SoludeSolude Member UncommonPosts: 691

Aion subpar graphics?  Well duh!  It is built on the Fary Cry 1 engine and for PvP, sorry PvPvE or was it PvEvP... any who yes LotRO and WAR and AoC and EQ2 and CO all look better.  LotRO and AoC even manage to perform better :O

And lets not confuse better for prefer ;)

  • DuraheLLDuraheLL Member Posts: 2,951

really awful examples you have there... geeze.

looks way better to me though. Aion is hardly the most beautiful game ever made, some zones are but others feels very generic.

BLAH BLAH BLAH.. My game looks better than your game... na ah.. my game looks better than your game... na ah..Question Why are we debating this?

I think both games look great. LoTRO obviously has richer textures on landscapes.. However I can think of another MMO which i stated earlier that is even better than LoTRO which is Age of Conan.. That being said. Aion wins in the character department not only in graphics and design but also in animations. Combat and out of combat.

WHy dont we just turn this into another post a picture thread on what you like from the game your playing instead of the my bleep is bigger than your bleep type of thread.

  • ZinzanZinzan Member UncommonPosts: 1,351

I find it odd that the OP chooses a provocative title, and then in the first line of his post apologises for that....why use a title like this for a thread? It smacks instantly of flamebait.

Usign words like "subpar" and "proof" are evocative and provocative, not smart im afriad.

But on topic, yes, LOTRO has far better graphics, it really can't be argued at all, it's a simple fact. But the point as has been made many times already is, performance>graphics in a pvp environment. Consider this when you consider comparisons, especially as LOTRO's monster play was arguably the single worst implentation of pvp in any mmo ever made. Both for style, design but also and more importantly performance.

LOTRO is a great game and beautiful to look at, no denying, but it cannot be compared to Aion at all graphically as they are designed for completely different gaming evnironments.

Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy :)

ok all the shiny look lover

    when pvp start in aion

go in any game you love the look of and try to get

pvp looking as good as aion ,have the same amount of player in same screen as aion

    in a pvp set .

you wont lol.aion is made as good looking as they can and have insane amount of pvp player in the same screen duking it out with as little lag as possible

im in some are full of player right now and

the player dont move and i get 20 fps i will have to lower draw distance

to get it smooth once we re in abyss

i would try to look as good in lotr eq2 etc you name it

i would have to put it to lowest setting to pvp

not here aion run smooth even a very high setting

we will love pvp in this game and raid will also look very good

but then the picture you showed of lotr is a single player

and that means nothing in an mmo ,show us 100 player in the same screen

like aion as in the abyss, show us a video of it

me i can go to lineage 2 section

i got a comaro of l2 vs aion in there look at it and at how many player are in there

try that with your favorite good looking game

if you can then we ll talk

but then most who played lotr and eq2 etc that now play aion

knopw only very few game can do it

wow is one maybe l2 even that one im not too sure

-probably others i havent played yet

its very easy to critic a game until you compare the game with another same thing

comparing raid vs a single player look is silly

like when you compare abyss pvpve to any game out there

that are none that i know of its a first

    why?

you get faction A in there

                  faction B

raid faction the thing you go for like in wow their deffender etc

and on TOP of that you got a neutral faction ,the one that live in the abyss

that can go at one faction or the other and its random

so to resume you got 4 seperate faction in there

that make a lot of stuff to pay attention to.if your precious lo0trcan do that and look as good as you show

its lying.aion way is the best way for the purpose it has to do

yes ncsoft could have raised the bar because while they made the game

a new version of the engine came out ,sthey dicided not to

and its a good call because there will be lot of player and the cam will be zoomed out so much it doesnt mather if you can see an ant that looks very good

we wont see it lol we ll be too busy trying to survive

Aions characters/armors are very detailed and..amazing.

As for the environment, yes Aions environment is not so great. It looks beautiful but its not as detailed as character models.

On the other hand this way Aion handles massive battles a hundred times better than WAR and has way less zoning than AoC.
