Originally posted by laokoko I just started playing this game actually. Have anyone actual level up to level20 and not spend a dime?
If they have, I haven't seen it mentioned yet.
It takes quite a bit of grinding and collecting turbine points on every server to unlock enough of the higher level content. I was going to do just that, but the time investment is too big. I'll probably just buy a few thousand points and buy the end game stuff to save myself days of grinding.
*mod edit*...and i use that word in all its meaning....if someone praises a game you atuomatically say their working for the company....
i agree with him 100%, but not as crazy...lol
and the reason it went F2P is because no one wants 2 spend 15$ bones and most can't afford it or can't do it. so free 2 play was a smart move. look at all the influx of players.....they even had to shut down for maintenance on release day. hell i am playin it with 5 other friends of mine since F2P, were as we would never of if it was still 15 bones.
and you NAY-SAYERS can gripe all you want and down it like little lame A**es, but the facts of the story are....DDO has done something smart and time will show....don't hate....i don't go on the World OF Warsuck and bitch and moan.
I recently tried DDO again and I am really enjoying the feeling of having a story unfold as I progress through a mission. The dungeons are nicely done and the narration at different spots gives it a nice ADnD feel.

Then I started grouping. It's gone downhill from there.
Group A, the power levelers, speed run dungeons. I was barely in a dungeon once and they already completed it.
Group B, the grinders, do the dungeons on normal speed, but multiple times (normal, hard, etite) for the XP.
Neither play style is fun for me, and the game really isn't terribly fun solo...again for me.
In all the games I've ever played, it's always been the players that make or break the game for me. DDO has a great bunch of players, veterans and new people alike. Unfortunately for a new person like me, having everyone else know exactly how a dungeon plays out ruins it =/
I was very surprised when i started playind DDO... what? No, i wasn't! Really, is Turbine going through such a bad patch it's come down to this?! Wrendel, how can you be fiftysomething if you were eleven in the late seventies? Really, it was funny at first but keep up man, camp is no longer cool. Succesful troll is whatever, you guys should stop trolling forums for internet or pizza or whatever is it that they promised you and get real jobs. It's the Tivo ad campaign all over again...
Just to make things clear... I speak for myself and no one else, unless i state otherwise mine is just an opinion. A fact is something that can be independently verified, you may challenge such but with proof. You have every right to disagree with me through sound argument, i believe in constructive debate, but baseless aggression will warrant an unkind response.
The only thing I ever liked about DDO when I played it was that you healed a lot faster when you were inside taverns, so there was a reason to go there for some downtime. Telling stories, roleplaying, building new groups, all that good social stuff that you don't get in today's WoW super casual clones.

It's rough sometimes. Best advice I can give on that is to find a group of friends or at least other new players and play through the free stuff at your own pace.
Another option is to join up with one of the Permadeath guilds. They are slow and deliberate because they delete their characters when they die.
I've got a good group of folks that I play with. We tend to blow through the dungeons at a breakneck pace and the speed of the assault makes it more challenging. Not your style, but I enjoy it a lot.

Are you and your friends spending money in the online store though? If not then you actually are in no way helping DDO stay viable.
This was a very interesting topic i see lol. U really have some people disturbed. Anyway i am glad u liked the game. I may try it out to see what all the fuss is about. I think u sold me a free game lol. Take it easy
DDO is good, so good it keeps me from playing the new fun MMO Champions Online or any other MMO to date. why it went F2P and had problems with some people.... I have no idea, a bit shocking. Combat is clunky? you must be out of your mind, it don't say "best combat of any MMO" for nothing.

The change they made a couple of weeks ago made combat slow and clunky, they did change it the other day though and made it faster again. Turbine should never mess with their combat since that is the only thing they really have that other MMOs lack.
The reason it went F2P is quite clear if you played before it went F2P, lack of population.
Heyho! I was also looking forward to give DDO Unlimited a try, but since I`m from Europe i quickly realized that it was anything else than f2p for me -.- Does anyone know if I can play on US servers nevertheless or if an European f2p version is to launch in near future?
Yes you can play on the US servers. From what I have seen there is no European F2P launch planned.
I have a valid VIP account on EU server currently but it's difficult to find group for the quest I want to do. So I play on US server as Premium account, the grouping chance is slightly better but still not able to find group doing 3 Barrels since I started playing DDO. Have seen one doing Garl's Tomb, normal run. That was all, and mostly are unexperienced P2P players.
However, there are some experienced P2P players on US server but not many. I believe DDO doing much better in Europe than the US all time. Because EU server are nearly all experienced players.
Besides, I haven't seen a F2P player is so capable. I have seen a few with good skills but for some reasons, they couldn't compare with the same level P2P players on EU server.
The guy may be a tad over-zealous in his posts but I have to say I truly fell in love with this game since it became F2P. I hated DDO back then when it was just launched, but it seems that the game has grown a lot since then.

DND is pretty fun once you get into it.

Darkfall Travelogues!
I was pleasantly surprised myself, because this is a more enjoyable game than Aion. I can see me playing a lot more DDO than Aion, that's for sure.

This is the reason I am forced to squelch 10 people a day on Cannith server general chat.
