I gave Aion a good solid try. I bought it because I loved the look and the idea of flying. i liked the idea of flying as well problem is you really dont get to use it as often as youd think since most areas are non flight areas and gliding well it aint flying by no means it isnt until lvl 25 that you really get to fly and even then its pretty restrictive in where you can go since there are usually gank squads roaming around
New to the discussion, but CoH has full flight, superspeed, superjumping, and extremely rapid combat. Is there something new in Aion?
actually not really in fact there are several things about coh id love to have seen implemented in aion mainly the sidekick system woulda been nice to see along with several other things implemented that i cant remeber atm
go ahead id love to see a screenpost i will still stand on my opinion though i played the game from beta and frankly wasnt that impressed
Im not trying to change your opinion
Im just saying.. Im past the dreaded "27 zomg grind zone" and I STILL have 30 quests in 3 different zones to do...
Nothing more... just making a comment. There's a ton of content if you go looking for it
not saying you was id like to point out 3 different zones im the type of person where i dont likel leaving quests behind ever i dont move on unless i absolutly have to and after doing every quest i had only thing left was repeatables
Ok, i just realized now that i HAD to reply to this post, many people here are getting a fu**** up view of Aion.
Man, Aion was meant to be played in a Legion, and by Legion i mean an active one, if you are in a Legion and you barely see your mates outside of a town, you're not participating of it.
When i got to lvl 29, i was like many people here too, i don't know what to do, i can't find the quests, then what did i do? teamed up with my guidies and got to Abyss to kill Asmodae, and strangely, or not, in the meanwhile, i was talking to them and someone said something really interesting about Eracus Temple... Then i said OH YEAAAAH!!
I had forgotten that i could do that!! So i talked to the guys of my lvl at my Legion, and we made a Party and went to Eracus Temple to do those damn quests! God, we took a long time there, but it really WAS fun, not cause we had to kill a lot of mobs, but cause we were all having fun with each other, and it was really cool to see our newb chanter die and having our Cleric all MAD that he had to ress him in the middle of the fight lol!
But then, after 2 or 3 hours playing with the guys, i realized... MAAAN, WTF?? I've done ALL of the quests here? When the heck did this happen?
My point is, you ([CAN'T]) play Aion if you are the kind of guy that can't handle talking to people, actually you should get a PS3 and play Assassins Creed, a dunno, cause the point about MMORPG's is that... YOU'RE NOT PLAYING ALONE! Get friends!

woulda love to but my guildies all went off on thier own and wanted to solo everything and any group i found wasnt looking for a lvl 27 28 or 29 templar usually it was sm's and sins they was looking for in fact i noticed a big trend in anything but templar in lfg chat i found most of the players were very immature at best and in a game where ppl are suppose to be working togther ppl dont work togther very well and ill ask you did you know any of your guildies from a different game or rl for that matter most ppl dont like to group with ppl they dont know and if you dont know anyone you get shafted in fact if i asked my guild or legion if i could catch a hand with a quest i was told to just grind it out my legion never once attempted to be helpful in any way unless you kissed thier ass
OK man, so i'm Guessing you didn't know about the Training Grounds while you were at lvl 25 TO 29, cause man, i got from 25 to 26, in one run, 26 to 27, in another run, (with some quests being done while i couldn't enter it), then from 27 to 29, i guess it was 3 runs, and questing while i was out of it, i didn't know what grinding meant at these lvls, i only grinded in AION, 5 bars from 24 to 25, then i got all excited again when i got to Abyss, and the first thing i've done was going to Training Grounds!
Don't know how it was for you, but now i'm not playing it cause i'm saving some money to buy my PS3, cause i accidentally got addicted to Guitar Hero, but that's another case, but as soon as i can buy this PS3, the next money is for Aion. Just for ya to know, i don't work yet and i'm father-sustained, so, gotta get going with the money he gives me...
EDIT: oh so that can be one of the reasons, i've been in the same guild, with the same mates overall, for about three years so, yeah, i consider all of them friends, we played together at Cabal Online, now we are at Aion, but you could try looking for another Legion man! a Receptive one. Just to say, don't expect anyone to log into you acc and do things for ya but, you can always ask what you have to do in order to get the best results out of your situation, and never be ashamed of asking for help, when you need it ask for it, if they have some kind of group-sense, the are going to help you, cause in a guild, the better the players are, the better the guild itself is, so...

Great post.... an active legion is absolutely KEY to this game (where as in other games, its an afterthought)
Thats why I keep saying you can't solo quest to 50... if you try, you'll definitely hate Aion...

Thats why alot of the wow type players couldnt handle Aion. They expected evrythng like levels and epic gear to be spoonfed to them. Aion has too much group content for them to advance at a pace their used to in WOW.
Aion v3 "RELOADED" - A glimpse into the future of the MMO genre
I understand about CoH and flying - Aion's flying is a different experience or at least it was for me.
Just went to check out Aion and the above is a mashup of what I saw.
I should not need a legion to enjoy a game. I should not have to endure a community that is laughably loathesome to play a game. (more on that here ... http://www.mmorpg.com/blogs/Astrialla - the post that starts Fouling Your Nest... ) and I should not have to explain why doing repeat quests over and over or killing the same mobs over and over is grinding.
I pre-ordered Aion, did the prelaunch and stuck it out for a month. I did not like it from day one and I think I gave it a fair shot. I'd rather put my 15 bucks into a different game. Play it all you want but don't give me grief for leaving.
And for the record, I've played MMO's for 6 years now. I've played SWG for 4 (still subbed) LOTRO for 2 (still subbed) and AoC, Warhammer, Anarchy Online, Uru, City of Heroes/City of Villains, Chronicles of Spellborn and Istaria. I tried WoW but only was able to stomach it for 3 days. So please don't lump me and others into the WoWkidz mode.
What about the new video. Capturable mounts, how many games let us capture our own mounts? Whips, how many MMo's have whip as a weapon? =P We see houses being built, but also what it seems to be rows of houses, villages we may call it. If the game allows this, how many games allow the building of villages of player houses? SWG did, but the feature was dead for a long time, and it was very unfortunate.
Capturing/training mounts - Darkfall, UO and probably others I am missing.
Nothing being added in this 'future update' is new/revolutionary and certainly wont move the genre forward by leaps and bounds as many people foolishly claim it will. Almost everything shown has been done before (and dont use the whole "But it was done many years ago so that doesnt count" arguement because no matter what just proves it has been done and is nothing new). Even gliding isnt new. Its limited flight and many MMOs have character based flight (CoH/CoV, EQ2, AO).
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

This may all be true, but...
Isnt it also true that, like many times we have told before, Aion gets great features from a vast array of games and puts it all together in only 1?
So, we will have in Aion the great mount capturing system of UO and DF, some rare and cool weapon types of EQ, the citys and houses of SWG and VG, the flight of CoH/CoV, the type of friendly interface of WoW, the PvP of Lineage and WAR , the world boss fights of EQ and WoW vanilla. Plus, weather seasons and many other nice features that im sure someone used before.
While many of the games on this list have to settle for what they are, Aion is getting it all together. And still many ppl claim this is not a good thing, to have it all. It is, It's GREAT!

lol, as far as you wanted to count features I can tell you that SWG actually has/had all of those at one time except may be whip hahah. It has a great pet/mount capturing, city and houses, it even had flight to some extend, it had PvP, it had world boss fight...
If you want to count features, SWG left AION in the dust. Heheheh. If you want to count polish, bug free product, it's a different story.
well im sure i can find a better legion but the amount of lagginess i encountered through most of the game was a big turn off for me
and i put up with the million dollar man graphics for 2 months alot of it is my comp i admit that but it was laggy only during certain points during the day from 3-5 and 9-11
at those times i never would log in since i wouldnt be able to move otherwise i did the training grounds very piss poor
elite mobs that drop nothing and a elite boss that dropped 800 kinah split between 6 ppl and some kerubian leather and from what i gathered my party had been through it several times in one case 9 times and would literally come off with nothing
he lvled out of tg and still hadnt acquired anything i went through it at least 3 times im aware of and lost more then i gained the very first run the cleric wasnt very good and so everyone dropped out leaving me to have to wait til the next day just to even do any of my quests i had in there if it had been bigger

That doesn't make it innovative only different.

I blacked them out because I did not want to give them free advertising :-). I've no interest in protecting them at all.
Removing the personal shops would ruin gold farmers lol they would not be able to stand in captials with their signboards showing their website but personal shops are usefull too :S
Now I know why p2p games tend to not use personal shops hehe.

Thing is, Aion has not these features yet, save for a video which is great and all, but a video of what can be wont always translate to what will be.
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
if having the /Locate function, and a playerbase even to stupid to locate items and quest locations with that function and a million bots and invisible walls galore is moving the genre forward, then we are all in trouble.

1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Capturing/training mounts - Darkfall, UO and probably others I am missing.

Moving the genre forward, not really. That said, Aion has and will get the features I look for in a game all in one, so i ll continue to enjoy it.
OP dont be silly, Aion is just moving the gener sideways a bit
Playing Darkfall EU1 Server
if having the /Locate function, and a playerbase even to stupid to locate items and quest locations with that function and a million bots and invisible walls galore is moving the genre forward, then we are all in trouble.
All been done before , nothing to see here ...
Lol moving a genre forward and moving Gender backwards..
After getting up to level 38... I notice AION have a big lack of content... is just a big genocide of mobs... thats it...
