I want to be that guy who is known in the town for everyone, that goes to the church and always help to his neighbour, that makes small reparations and items for request.

Can this exact profile have a place on DFO? Do I need to be a warrior to earn money and glory?

Hmm, well, first of all I doubt you'd get a house very fast without being a warrior, second of all, traveling with anything in your backpack is a bad idea, even if your going to sell it, because you will get jumped and lose it all. Third of all, hiring people would be a pretty risky move considering they can just kill you for all your loot after you make money off selling things, and then the only reliable bodyguards you can get are in a clan/guild, and to get in most of the good ones they want you to fight. Plus you have to pay revenue for that house, and group of a-holes can just destroy it all in a second if you arent careful with everything. Don't qoute me on all this though, but it is probable considering the not so friendly community.

A lot of misconceptions in this post.

"mm, well, first of all I doubt you'd get a house very fast without being a warrior" While it is rare you can get a house deed in a chaos chest from just exploring.  Also, any mob has a random chance of dropping it.

"second of all, traveling with anything in your backpack is a bad idea" Sometimes this is necessary.  Thus the allure of the full loot game.  The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.  Victory does not have to be about fighting.  It could be about getting from point A to point B.

"because you will get jumped and lose it all."  You might not.

"Third of all, hiring people would be a pretty risky move considering they can just kill you for all your loot after you make money off selling things,"  There are many honorable mercenary guilds that would do this.

"and then the only reliable bodyguards you can get are in a clan/guild, and to get in most of the good ones they want you to fight."  Good clans let you play how you want to play.  If the clan is not a good fit for you then leave.

Plus you have to pay revenue for that house, and group of a-holes can just destroy it all in a second if you arent careful with everything  The only thing they can destroy is the door and most games have taxes on housing so this is nothing new.

Don't qoute me on all this though, but it is probable considering the not so friendly community  Yes I am going to quote you when you say something as absurd as that.  I lot of people posting on this very site have been very helpful have they not?  Are we not members of the community?  It's been my experience that the community in this game far surpasses the community of MANY other MMO's.

I hope patshir appreciates the time you took to clarify this for him.

Sure I did of course I did not have time to post my thanks : )

If you want WoW type MMO - there are many options. And many good games, if you are looking for the gaming style that they offer. But at some point many people get fed up with the hand holding and want something else:

    I agree.

Although I dont look at is has hand holding as much as limitations. The first time I ever logged into DF I was able to travel anywhere on the world map I wanted to. I didnt have to do any quests to open up zones and I could realistically sneak around areas where clearly I was too weak for.

In fact, I think my second night playing I traveled from elf lands to dwarf lands.

You simply can not do that in most mainstream MMO's

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

I'll download the game again and I'll have to repurchase the game, since the account I've played last time was shared with friends and is in the EU server. I've decided to give it another go, since I'm not playing anything else right now and I'm craving some MMO action.

I've already chosen one person here to be my referral, one I thought was generally helpful and level headed.

Let's see how I fare in the game, this time around.

Good for you Strix. I hope this time around and with all the changes, you can now find something in DF worth staying for.

"Mr. Rothstein, your people never will understand... the way it works out here. You're all just our guests. But you act like you're at home. Let me tell you something, partner. You ain't home. But that's where we're gonna send you if it harelips the governor." - Pat Webb

Hmm, I'll most likely not join NEW, not if I can help it. I'd rather do it the hard way, as an experiment. Or maybe join a good, mature clan that does not slave-drive its participants.

I'm an adult and I can take the griefing and ganking without losing it =)

Albeit a wonderful concept, there are reasons why "mainstream" mmo's do not allow free travel.  Have you not read any posts from all those players that complain about being ganked here and there?  Well,  it may sound carebearish, but it also saves face when most younger players with attention spans of goldfish will get ganked in elf land twice, call the game fail, troll forums for a week, then move on to the next game.  It's a horrid cycle of death and rebirth. But it also gives us "real" game lovers/players something to laugh at.

It's just like if I swam to Afghanistan and walked around nude in front of some insane terrorists, I would have a high risk of getting ganked.

I added some new videos I made to the OP. Check them out! I don't do any fancy editing, because I want to show the game for what it is.

-Computer specs no one cares about: check.

-MMOs played no one cares about: check.

-Xfire stats no one cares about: check.

-Signature no one cares about: check.

    Who is Ed Zitron?

MMORPG's first reviewer who couldn't figure out the basics of the UI, only played for a couple hours, then wrote a completely untruthful review of the game and scored it a 2/10.

a thread on him  (reading the thread makes me laugh at the amount of hate out there people had for this game, thankfully a lot of the trolls have left this subforum over the past few months.)

Zitron did the review for Eurogamer, not MMORPG.

You're most likely never going to see a trial. Just wouldn't work in this game. People would use trial accounts as farming alts. The only way to prevent that would be to make it so that trial accounts couldn't trade, which kind of won't work in a full loot game.

Just take the plunge and buy the game. It's cheaper than a night out at the pub.

I bought a new computer just to play the game since my former one was a little outdated and got the money to buy the game I have my account ready and I am just waiting to fix a little proble with my paypal account which I will do today or tomorrow and I will enter this game which is the end of my search. I wont wait for MO not because the bad reviews but just because I dont like the first person perspective for a rpg game (I can tolerate it only in combats, another point to DFO). I will finish saying that I thought that MMORPGs would never replace my pen and paper game sessions but after all I have seen in DFO I think my mind is changing.

Glad you found your perfect game. Hopefully you will do a follow up post after you actually play the game.

I have bought the game and I am installing it, I am so excited, I have waited this moment for months and today my happiness is fullfilled I want to cry, I am so excited, dont let me cry. My dream come true, rejoice with me mates! I am a Darkfaller, ??? Darkfaller? Is it correct? Anyway, envy me! envy me mortals everywhere! I was one of the chosen!

I will be at NA server my name will be Patshir just in case someone wants to loot me in revenge for these words, See you on game. Bye.
