    :)

My account, (I would assume part of the 1 million), JUST now got an email:  HA!  perfect timing.

    "STO AVAILABLE NOW

    Greetings Captain!

Star Trek Online is available....... (and so forth)"

Glad I could participate at least to some measure of thier success.  hehe.

It is just sad a company has to resort to manipulating information to create hype.

    "accounts created on a website...".

What's next? The number of hits an MMORPG website gets?

As for those wanting to use Xfire as a reliable source: "Heroes of Newerth, Aion, Silkroad on Line , League of Legends"...are all in the ... top 10 of Xfire games being played.... They all 4 have on common source: made in Asia.

If someone believes that those games are closely being played on the same level as Counterstrike, Battlefield 2 or Dragonblight and Mass Effect 2 ...

Keep on dreaming. Anyone even heard of Heroes of Newerth or Silkroad on Line or Cabal On Line?

I played ST for 5 days in the open beta and sadly cancelled my pre order. I guess I am counted in the 1 M created accounts.

Lots of lessons to be learned here: for one: an mmorpg has to have open ended seamless parts free to explore.

Want a real mmorpg? Play WOW with experience turned off mode and be Pve_Pvp King at any level without a rat race.

Naw, its a good game, numbers talk, the grafics are excellent, the beta went smooth and pre-release went better. lacks Hacks, bunny hopping and macros that are  found in...other games. Community is good and it looks like STO will be enjoyed by many.

What are you people talking about? ' Yeah thats accounts! Not subscribers.'

Yes, well done, I believe thats what they said.

It's worrying theres people who take it on themselves to point out the obvious. I'd say 95% of us on these forums can read and interpret information for ourselves without having people reminding us that website accounts aren't subscriptions, thankyou lol.

However, outselling mass effect is impressive. They get a pat on the back for that at least.

Longing for Skyrim, The Old Republic and Mass Effect 3

You bet, excellent point, I know of some games that limited the amount of players and left many others pressing refresh buttons to even get a chance to play. So yes, they get a pat on the back.

Its star trek people of coarse its going to have good numbers in its first week. You could sell monkey feces and call it star trek and BAM! good sales. People shouldnt expect this game to sell poorly. People should expect that this game will have sub numbers consistently drops every month. Someone tell me one thing STO has that will keep people coming back for more. I truely saw nothing remotely compeling enough to keep me there for years to come.

    Currently Playing: Fallen Earth
Played and liked: TCOS, Vanguard, Guild Wars, DDO
Played and didn't like: CO, MO, STO, DF, AoC, WAR, WoW, EQ2, EVE, most f2p
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, Secret World

??? what is it that seems to have made you soo upset??? It had open beta (a practice that other games can not handle) it had pre-release (same holds true) and launch went off with only minor problems. Surely there is something that got you posting negatively about the game. Nevertheless, sorry you find the game as you do, according to the latest, over a million others liked it so let them continue to boldly go where no game has gone...before.

Do you mean just the PC version of Mass Effect 2? Because overall, ME2 has sold over 2 million in the past week.

I think we will see a AoC. Good numbers at start then after a month down to 100k or less.

    Played:
From Earth & Beyond, Anarchy Online, Matrix Online, Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa (Beta), EvE Online, City of Villians, Atlantica Online, Guild Wars, Lineage 2, Pirates of the Burning Sea, PlanetSide, RF Online, Second Life, Fallen Earth.

    Lol.

Why be honest when you can be in game marketing.

I've got nothing against STO, hope folks enjoy it.  That said, this is a silly press release, and on par with Sony's transparent "we have four bazillion Free Realms accounts!!!!"

If you're proud of your game and it's financial performance, release the real numbers, don't hide behind half-truths and misleading statistics.

Blizzard releases their sub numbers, not forum accounts.  Why doesn't Cryptic?

    That's a rhetorical question btw.

Link current Blizzard sub numbers please.

huge comunity ofc does not mean quality but is a must have to think good about the future. This seems to be a casual player mmorpg  and most will depend on how much fun ppl will have playing. More then the technical realization. IMHO.

    Wow OP wow..

The registered accounts has absolutley nothing to do with both of the people who actually BUY, SUB, and STAY subbed to this ..game.

Someone on the official forums pointed out that there are atually only somethingl ike 525,000 forum accounts (which are tied to website accounts any way).

    Over exaggeration to the max.

I don't possibly see how anyone could turn around and give that as fact. Both the claim of 525,000 or 1,000,000.

Truth be told, I don't see why anyone would care? If you like it, nice, if you don't, find something else to do lol. If I didn't like it I wouldn't be wasting my life telling people who really, lets face it, wont listen.

Many people have an account on STO forum and is not a subscriber. Like almost always, marketing boys trying to say what they are not really saying.

    I have one.

Box sales mean plenty - if the business model is designed for that. Does anyone here doubt that Cryptic's model does. Anyone?

If they sell a million boxes, I'm betting they will have already made a profit on the game.

It's also interesting that it is the number one selling game on Amazon right now.

Have you played the game yet, Kt?

Will you write a review? I would be very interested to read it.

Hey im registered to their website but Im not playing the game, never purchased a copy and wont be playing it.  Point is they are using PR tactics to make their game look like its doing better then it is, twist words around and redirect.  This should not be a surprise with Cryptic folks

I have a forum account from the CO beta forums, and it worked for the STO beta forums too. Am I counted? All seems a little odd seeing as they have a universal login.

Given the popularity of the IP was the games initial success in any doubt?

From:  Star Trek Online: Launch Day Interview.

    STO Team:

"We did have a very ambitious target date, but we also knew we could do it. Bear in mind, much of the work that typically goes into an MMO's "five-year" development cycle is engine/tech creation, or in some cases, revenue generation. We made up for a lot of that time in two ways: We're using the same engine we'd been developing for five years for Champions, and when we merged with Atari, we no longer needed to shop a concept to a publisher for a year while we kept the staff small.

We've been fully staffed on this project since you first heard about its existence. So really, that two-year number is the meat and potatoes of what consumers see. It's the art; the living, breathing design; the content; and the gameplay changes we've made after getting the game into people's hands for real testing and feedback."

I took this as a confident affirmation to your opinion on the matter.  But then who truely knows, maybe only Atari can answer this.  As the publisher, I woud think they set the revenue goals (box hits).  I do however believe that STO will be around for a good long time, just not at the capacity it should be for such an iconic IP.
